Kris Statlander to undergo surgery following ACL tear

Kris Statlander is out of action following an ACL tear.

Statlander confirmed a PWInsider report saying that she had suffered a knee injury, writing on Twitter: “Since the news is out. I told you I’d dive on Kip again and dammit I did. But in doing so, I ended up with a high grade tear in my ACL. Yes I need surgery. Yes I’ll be out of the ring for a while. I’ll do my best to still show up on your TVs as much as I can. @AEWrestling”

The injury happened on last week’s Dynamite, where Statlander teamed with Hikaru Shida to take on Penelope Ford and Nyla Rose in a tag match. Statlander went for a suicide dive on Kip Sabian, who was at ringside, and landed on her knees.

Statlander has been feuding with Penelope Ford since Double or Nothing, when Statlander defeated her in a singles match.

Will Ospreay suffered heel injury at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 14

Additional notes by Bryan Rose

Will Ospreay suffered a heel injury in Saturday’s Tokyo Dome match with Hiromu Takahashi where he lost his IWGP Junior Heavyweight title.

The injury took place at the beginning of the amazing series of spots where Ospreay landed on his feet each time.

Ospreay targeted the injury from his first Space Flying Tiger drop spot, where Takahashi moved and Ospreay landed on his feet, just prior to Takahashi giving him a German suplex onto the ramp, in which he also landed on his feet.

The match continued until Hiromu pinned Ospreay with a new variation of the time bomb to win the IWGP Jr. title for the second time. Ospreay wasn’t booked the following night.

He later posted a picture on social media where he was shown icing his heel. He is undergoing x-rays to determine the severity of the injury.

We haven’t heard of any other significant injuries from either of the two shows.

Naomichi Marufuji, Fenix out of action due to injury

Both Naomichi Marufuji and Fenix are dealing with injuries that has put them out of action.

It was reported on Yahoo Japan this morning that Naomichi Marufuji would miss the rest of NOAH’s Global League due to what is being described as a left shoulder contusion. It isn’t known how long he will be out for.

As a result, the Global League tournament is in a bit of a mess as Marufuji was leading the A Block ahead of the finals on November 25. NOAH announced that there will now be a triple threat match between Kenoh, Katsuhiko Nakajima and Kohei Sato that will determine the A Block winner. They will face B Block winner Kaito Kiyomiya in the finals.

As for Fenix, he wrote on Instagram this morning that he suffered a groin strain in a match against Barbaro Cavernario during CMLL’s usual Friday night event. He said that he has informed promoters that he won’t be able to make any of his December dates, effectively putting him out of action for the rest of the year. He also said to not to blame Cavernario on the injury and congratulated him on his win.

Injury report: Barreta, Tom Lawlor, Bianca Belair updates

Here are some updates on injuries that have gone down over the last week.

Trent Barreta has confirmed on Twitter that he will be out of action for a while after suffering injuries during his match against Chuck Taylor for PWG last weekend. Kevin Kelly described the injuries during this morning’s Honor Rising show as a torn bicep and a torn pectoral muscle.

Barreta worked both nights of the Honor Rising tour. His match this morning was changed from a singles bout with Dalton Castle for the ROH World title to a triple threat match involving the Beer City Bruiser.

Our own Filthy Tom Lawlor suffered a broken forearm after hitting a clothesline on Dominic Garrini in the back of the head at last night’s AIW event. He expects to have an update early next week, but had to pull out of this weekend’s ASW Canada match against Davey Boy Smith Jr. due to the injury.

Bianca Belair appeared to be injured during an NXT house show on Thursday night in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. During the finish of her match, which was against Ember Moon for the NXT Women’s title, Moon was supposed to land The Eclipse and then pin her. The move didn’t appear to land properly, and Belair kicked out. The match ended anyway, with Belair being helped to the back.

Belair has not wrestled since, but Triple H did mention on Twitter earlier today that she’ll be facing Moon on tonight’s NXT card in Peterborough.

UPDATE: Belair didn’t end up wrestling at the show in Peterborough. Moon instead faced Nikki Cross and Aliyah in a triple threat match for the second straight night.
