Impact Wrestling results: LAX vs. OGz street fight, Fenix vs. Callihan

Fenix defeated Sami Callihan (w/ Jake and Dave Crist)

They saved the best for first on this week’s show. Fenix lived up to his namesake in this match, hitting a series of high-flying aerial moves that had the crowd on their feet. Both guys worked hard.

The crowd at times chanted “Ohio sucks” at Callihan and the Crist brothers and “This is awesome” after Fenix’s aerial moves.

Fenix hit several impressive aerial moves, including a springboard cutter from on the outside, laying out Callihan on the ramp. He landed a hurricanrana. Callihan also worked his part of the match strong. He plays a great heel — and although he overacts at times, shows good ring psychology.

The Crist brothers tried to interfere, but Pentagon Jr. came out to help his brother, allowing Fenix to hit a spinning Muscle Buster suplex on Callihan for the win, in the show’s highlight.

They showed a long series of vignettes featuring the LAX vs. OGz street fight later in the show and then an advertisement for Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea cruise.

The TNA flashback match this week from 2009 was Team 3D vs. Beer Money Inc. vs. The Main Event Mafia vs. The British Invasion.

Then, in an interview segment, Allie said she was going to defeat Su Yung later in the show for Madison Rayne and Rosemary.

“This is for my soul,” Allie said.

Johnny Impact defeated Jimmy Jacobs by DQ

Don Callis reminded everyone that Jacobs used to be a very good wrestler. Kongo Kong attacked Impact from behind before the match started as Impact was walking to the ring. Kong kicked him in the face and threw him into the ring. Jacobs tried to cover him for the pin, but Impact kicked out.

Kong then ran in and hit Impact, forcing a disqualification. Kong tried to powerbomb Impact, but he slipped out, countering with a DDT on the stage. Impact then hit Jacobs with the steel steps, knocking him out on the stage and leaving his head dangling on the bottom rope.

Scarlett Bordeaux’s “Smokeshow” debuted, and it wasn’t pretty.

Apparently, both Fallah Bahh and KM thought they would be guests on her show and they ran into each other in the hall. They were both carrying wine. Bordeaux ended up interviewing both of them, where KM said he was frustrated with Bahh because he couldn’t control him.

Bordeaux told him to consider a different way and pretended like she was going to kiss him, but then pulled back. KM, in a trance, walked off the set and then Bordeaux slapped Bahh.

Weird segment.

Impact World Champion Austin Aries introduced Killer Kross as his new insurance policy.

Eddie Edwards then came out and hit Aries with a kendo stick. Kross held Edwards down and choked him out. Aries put his foot on Edwards and posed with the belt.

Eli Drake (w/ Caleb Konley and Trevor Lee) defeated Joe Hendry (Grado and Katarina)

Katarina and Hendry are clearly attracted to each other and Grado keeps doing dumb things to push his girlfriend towards Hendry, in this neverending storyline.

Grado messed up again this week, jumping on the apron while Hendry had the upper hand, distracting Hendry. Drake then rolled up Hendry for the pin.

After the match, Grado, Hendry, and Katarina all argued in the ring before Hendry walked out and Katarina followed him.

They showed Matt Sydal meditating on the beach, and a graphic revealed his third eye.

Allie defeated Knockouts Champion Su Yung by DQ in a non-title match

Yung and her undead bridesmaids have a great ring presence. Allie beat up on Yung for most of the match, firing up the crowd, but Tessa Blanchard ran in the ring and hammered on Allie to cause the disqualification. Initially it looked like a double-team, but Yung applied the mandible claw on Blanchard. Allie made the save, hitting a codebreaker on Yung. This seemed to set up a Blanchard vs. Yung match.

They advertised a Sami Callihan vs. Pentagon Jr. Mexican Death Match for next week with the Crist Brothers banned from ringside.

LAX (w/ Konnan) defeated The OGz (w/ King) in a street fight

This was hard to follow, with no commentary for a match that took place in a parking lot. A few weeks ago, The OGz stole LAX’s title belts from ringside without winning them.

LAX took the titles that already belonged to them back after they beat The OGz down in the parking lot. King then went to Konnan and screamed “this isn’t over.” He told Konnan that he was old and needed to be put down, then begged LAX to take Konnan out and side with the new blood. After they refused, King said “I spit on your soul. I spit on your family” to Konnan.

King got on one knee and begged Konnan to hit him, suggesting he was too scared to do it.

Konnan then seemed to hit him in the head, but the show ended, leaving the audience guessing.

Impact Wrestling results: Austin Aries vs. Eddie Edwards

This week’s card was highlighted by two strong main event matches and an excellent Tessa Blanchard performance, but the show also dragged with several long interview segments that ate up a lot of time.

The episode opened with a long backstage fight between LAX and the OGz.

Taiji Ishimori & Petey Williams defeated The Desi Hit Squad

Manager Gama Singh introduced the Desi Hit Squad as “the pride and joy of all of India.” Ishimori walked to the ring giving the Bullet Club and nWo’s “Too Sweet” symbol.

This was a good match, highlighted by Ishimori and Williams’ aerial moves. After a hot tag, Ishimori hit a DDT and front-face slammed both members of the DHS (Rohit Raju and Gursinder Singh) in one explosive move. Ishimori also hit a tombstone-like piledriver, dropping Gursinder Singh’s head on his knees, instead of the canvas.

Ishimori got the pin over Raju after he hit a double-arm jumping DDT, handing the Hit Squad its first television loss.

We then got a series of video packages that chewed up about 15 minutes of time, featuring Pentagon Jr., Allie and Kiera Hogan, Eddie Edwards, Austin Aries, Grado, Katarina, and Joe Hendry.

In her interview, Allie demanded a match with Knockouts Champion Su Yung. She said that she was not interested in winning the title, but instead wanted to stop Yung from putting anyone else inside of a casket.

“Leave your belt at home — just bring your undead ass,” Allie said.

Tessa Blanchard defeated Alisha Edwards

Blanchard came across again as a big star. She brings incredible charisma, facials, and ring presence, along with dynamic in-ring wrestling skills. She gorilla press slammed Alisha, Ultimate Warrior-style and then stepped on her back.

“It’s like Tessa is LeBron James and she is playing against high school players,”  commentator Josh Mathews said. “She’s on a another level.”

Blanchard took some punishment in the match, highlighting her selling skills. Alisha hit a crucifix for a pin attempt. But after Blanchard kicked out, she got madder and kicked Alisha in the shin. Blanchard threw Alisha into the bottom rope and then dropkicked her in the back. Blanchard does a great job of staying intense throughout the match and has strong match psychology. She won with a tilt-a-whirl into a DDT.

After the match, she grabbed the microphone and said, “I just made an example of Alisha.”

She called out Allie.

“If you are going after Su Yung and that Knockouts Championship I am going after you,” Blanchard said.

They showed a backstage segment with Scarlett Bordeaux walking to the ring, while the starstruck goofy interviewer from a week ago carried her bags.

There was an extended advertisement encouraging people to buy tickets for Chris Jericho’s Rock and Wrestling Cruise.

Flashback Moment of the Week: Chris Sabin (Team USA) defeated Petey Williams (Team Canada) in a 2006 World X Cup match

Sabin won with his Cradle Shock slam after an exciting match between the two workers. But the feel of the moment was ruined by Kevin Nash, who attacked Sabin after, destroyed his trophy, and then gave him a Jacknife powerbomb. Nash snatched the microphone and said “I proved size matters.” The display was a reminder of how in 2006 TNA was pushing Nash over the younger stars.

We got more Bordeaux, who distracted KM and Fallah Bahh backstage as she walked by. Bordeaux walked into a room where a bunch of fawning men, presumably Impact executives, bent over backwards to accommodate her.

Bordeaux said the other girls were jealous of her and that she didn’t feel comfortable getting into the ring with them, so the men gave Bordeaux her own show called “The Smokeshow,” which is set to debut next week.

Pentagon Jr. defeated Matt Sydal

This was an off-the-charts match with both guys putting on a dazzling show. Pentagon ran under the ring at one point to throw off Sydal, but when he came out — Sydal dropkicked him on the ground in an innovative spot.

Both wrestlers exchanged a lot of superkicks. Pentagon displayed both traditional chain wrestling, submission, and high-flying moves.

“Pentagon may be one of the most dangerous wrestlers to come out of Mexico because he can work any style,” commentator Don Callis said.

Pentagon hit a Death Valley Driver. Sydal hit a standing hurricanrana. Sydal went for a Shooting Star Press, but Pentagon got his knees up. Pentagon then hit the fear factor package piledriver for the win. Mathews and Callis made a big deal about the loss being a big hit to Sydal’s career and they wondered where he goes now.

Backstage, Sami Callihan, who had his head shaved after a loss to Pentagon at Slammiversary, demanded that one of his oVe teammates, the Crist brothers shave their head to show solidarity. Jake Crist volunteered to have his head shaved, so Callihan rewarded him by ordering Dave Crist to have his head shaved instead.

Jake then shaved his brother’s head.

Inside the ring, Konnan, along with LAX’s Santana and Ortiz, showed up. King’s OGz, Hernandez and Homicide, agreed to a street fight on next week’s show. King challenged Konnan to a fight inside the “concrete jungle,” accusing him of going soft.

Konnan accepted. “There is only one group that runs the streets and it is LAX,” he said.

They advertised several matches for next week: Callihan vs Fenix, Allie vs. Su Yung, Johnny Impact vs. Jimmy Jacobs, and Joe Hendry vs. Eli Drake, along with the debut of The Smokeshow.

Impact World Champion Austin Aries defeated Eddie Edwards to retain his title

Aries performed like one of the top guys in the business, showing off some of Ric Flair’s ring psychology and Shawn Michael’s in-ring bumping skills.

Aries stalled a lot to build heat to open the match. After a commercial break, Mathews even said. “For the first time in professional wrestling history, during the commercial break absolutely nothing happened. Austin Aries wants nothing to do with Eddie Edwards.”

Edwards is playing a demented, but likable, good guy, who carries a kendo stick, and comes across as a combination of The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer.

Edwards eventually caught up with Aries and hit him with chops and a headbutt. He chased Aries into the ring, and Aries did a classic Flair impersonation, begging for his life, and as Edwards slowed up to show sympathy, he kneed him in the gut.

Aries threw him outside and hit a suicide dive through the second and third ropes. He brought him back inside the ring, tore off part of Edwards’ shirt, and then chopped him. Edwards has a tendency to oversell with his face, making his expressions of pain looked cartoon-like.

Edwards returned the chops and then hit a double-armed butterfly piledriver. Later, Aries attempted his Last Chancery submission finisher, but Edwards bit Aries’ finger to break the hold. Aries ran outside, grabbed his title belt. and brought it into the ring — but the referee took it away.

Aries put Edwards on his shoulders and swung him around, accidentally knocking down the referee. With the referee down, he grabbed the belt again and went to hit Edwards. Edwards countered with a DDT and covered him for a seven count, but the referee was still knocked out.

Edwards then grabbed his kendo stick and hit the referee. Aries hit a low blow, but Edwards then smashed Aries over the head with the kendo stick. Killer Kross came out and hit Edwards with the Doomsday Saito suplex, then Aries hit a brainbuster. The referee woke up and made the count for the pinfall, likely setting up a match between Edwards and Kross.

Aries and Kross posed in the ring together to close the show.

Impact Wrestling results: Austin Aries defends his title

Allie & Kiera Hogan defeated Knockouts Champion Su Yung & The Undead Maid of Honor

Yung and the bridesmaids made a scary, zombie-like entrance into the ring.

Hogan and Allie, full of energy, attacked the bridesmaids from the back on the entrance ramp. This was a showcase match for Allie. She hit a spinning dive off the second turnbuckle to the outside of the ring on several of the bridesmaids. Allie hit a codebreaker, which is probably the most overused move on the show, on Yung for the win. But after the match Tessa Blanchard ran in an attacked Allie from the outside while Hogan was subdued by the bridesmaids.

Blanchard hit Allie with a hammerlock DDT and then mugged for the camera. Blanchard is the total package: She has strong ring skills and plays to the camera perfectly.

Blanchard said in a backstage interview that she deserves the next title shot.

“She may be the best women’s wrestler I have ever seen,” commentator Don Callis said of Blanchard.

The OGz defeated Nathan Stokes & Ray Steele

Even though the OGz are not Tag Team Champions, they came to the ring with the belts after they stole them from real champs LAX a week ago.

This was a quick squash match. Homicide won when he dropped Stokes on the back of his shoulders and hit an awkwardly-delivered reverse chicken wing slam. It was a wicked looking move.

“He dropped that young man on his head, sickening,” Callis said.

The OGz’s manager King grabbed the microphone and said his team took LAX’s title belts and made them their own (they spray-painted OGz on the belts).

Just then, Santana and Ortiz from LAX ran into the ring and attacked Hernandez and Homicide of the OGz. Security broke up the melee. Konnan followed them and encouraged LAX to return to the backstage area and leave the OGz alone. After the break, Konnan told LAX not to fall into the OGz’s “trap” and that the right time will come for LAX to strike.

They showed an ad for LAX vs. The Young Bucks on Chris Jericho’s upcoming Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager cruise. Callis said “the two best tag teams in the world do battle at sea.”

Flashback Moment of the Week: Jushin Thunder Liger defeated Petey Williams

This was an exciting, high-flying match from Sacrifice 2006, with Liger hitting his signature aerial moves. Liger won with a front face slam to the delight of the fans inside the Impact Zone

Desi Hit Squad (Gursinder Singh & Rohit Raju) defeated KM & Fallah Bahh

Bahh looks like he would have been the perfect heel for Hulk Hogan in the 1980s. The large, rotund wrestler smacked his head and screamed “Bahh” as the match started. Callis said “Gursinder Singh speaks four languages, Fallah Bahh apparently speaks none.”

Bahh is really over with the fans. He hit two big splashes in the corner on Singh and Raju and then hit a leg drop on Singh. KM showed his strength and tossed both members of the Hit Squad around. Bahh and KM hit their patented Tuna Roll on Singh and Raju. The 400-pound Bahh and KM took turns rolling over the two wrestlers.

“This should be illegal,” Callis blurted. “They are gonna hurt someone badly.”

KM hit a full-nelson slam on Raju, but Bahh accidentally distracted the referee so he couldn’t make the count. That allowed Singh to hit a flying knee and a DDT to pin KM, to set up would looks like a potential KM turn on Bahh.

They showed Anthony Carelli backstage trying to hype his protege, Dustin Cameron, who gets a title shot, for some unknown reason, against Austin Aries later in the show. After he went along with every gimmick WWE threw at him a decade ago, it’s surprising that the former Santino Marella doesn’t have a job somewhere with WWE today.

Backstage, Jimmy Jacobs interrupted a Johnny Impact interview and took off Impact’s sunglasses. Impact punched him in the face and challenged Jacob’s stablemate Kongo Kong. “I want the monster. I am not going to ask again,” Impact told Kong

Impact World Champion Austin Aries defeated Dustin Cameron (w/ Anthony Carelli) to retain his title

“If you believe in feel-good stories and you believe in miracles, you are not going to want to miss this match,” commentator Josh Mathews screamed.

Aries walked to the ring slowly eating a banana, and fully dressed in black jeans and a black shirt.

Aries did not take the match seriously, but he outwrestled Cameron in the short bout. Cameron hit a couple of judo throws, but Aries rallied quickly to hit a brainbuster. He could have pinned the kid, but instead pulled him up, prompting Carelli to throw in the towel to save his student. Aries threw the towel back at Carelli and then delivered the Last Chancery.

Carelli jumped into the ring. Aries took off his shirt. The crowd cheered for Carelli’s WWE finisher, the Cobra, but this is a different, far more serious Carelli than the Santino character he played in WWE. Carelli kicked him law and Aries stumbled out of the ring onto the ramp. When he turned around, Eddie Edwards hit him with a kendo stick. He tried to double-arm DDT the champ, but Aries escaped.

They announced Aries vs. Edwards for the title next week.

A goofy looking interviewer named Bob Kapoor tried to interview Scarlett Bordeaux, but he was so mesmerized by her beauty that he couldn’t get any words out. Bordeaux asked the interviewer his name and he stuttered when trying to say “Bob,” so Bordeaux called him “Bobo.”

Bordeaux, in a long red dress, said it was tough living in a world of “threes” when she was “a 10.”

“This is how God made me and I will not be hot-shamed,” she said. Kapoor left and Bordeaux said “I guess men around here aren’t used to seeing women like me.”

“The Smokeshow is here to make wrestling sexy again,” she said.

Eli Drake & Trevor Lee (w/ Caleb Konley) defeated Grado & Joe Hendry (w/ Katarina)

Lee and his regular tag team partner Konley attacked Grado and Hendry to start the match.

Grado took most of the beating during the match. When Konley went after Katarina, Hendry stepped off the apron to protect her, leaving no one for Grado to tag in. Drake hit the Gravy Train for the pinfall victory on Grado.

Once again, Hendry was paying a little too much attention to Katarina, leaving Grado jealous and wondering if his girlfriend and best friend were having an affair. Hendry denies any interest, but it’s clear that Grado is increasingly becoming the third wheel in the group.

Pentagon Jr. & Fenix defeated oVe (Dave & Jake Crist) w/ Sami Callihan

This was a showcase match for Pentagon and Fenix. Callihan was at ringside with his arm in a sling. oVe dominated early, with the Crist brothers even hitting two spectacular over-the-top rope dives to start the match. The crowd was very into Pentagon and Fenix, yelling “Lucha, Lucha.”

The story of the match was the Crist brothers trying to remove Pentagon and Fenix’s masks. When they couldn’t do that, they tied the masks together. Pentagon and Fenix tried to pull apart but couldn’t move. The Crist brothers then both hit superkicks on the restrained wrestlers.

The luchadores finally broke free, and Pentagon Jr. and Fenix hit a spike DDT. Pentagon lifted Dave up with a double underhook to set up the move, then Fenix jumped off the top rope onto Crist’s back and Pentagon delivered the DDT for the win.

Impact Wrestling results: Fallout from Slammiversary XVI

The first show after Slammiversary XVI featured a heavy dose of self-praise for the company’s pay-per-view event and the setting up of several new feuds leading into the next big PPV, Bound For Glory, on October 14.

Impact World Champion Austin Aries opened the show. He called Slammiversary the “PPV of the year.” Without mentioning other companies by name he ripped on them, saying no one hands him a script and tells him what to say before he talks.

“You want to call yourself the best, you have to step into the ring with the best,” Aries said.

Eddie Edwards, fresh off a feud with Tommy Dreamer, snuck up behind him and hit him with a kendo stick in the stomach and then landed the two-arm DDT, setting up the next title feud.

Commentators Don Callis and Josh Mathews were at ringside instead of in the studio for the show.

Taiji Ishimori defeated Petey Williams

The crowd was totally behind Williams, chanting “Petey, Petey,” throughout the match.

This was a display of high-flying moves. Ishimori went for a hurricanrana that Williams turned into a powerbomb. Ishimori got the win after he blocked Williams’ Canadian Destroyer attempt and hit a suplex into a DDT. In a show of respect, the two men hugged but were then attacked by the Desi Hit Squad, leaving them laid out in the ring.

Backstage, they interviewed Anthony Carelli, formerly Santino Marella in the WWE. Carelli was there to promote some of his wrestling students, when Aries picked a fight with him. Carelli said he would love to fight Aries but that he isn’t medically cleared because of a neck injury.

“If you are too old and broken down to step into the ring with the champ, I understand,” Aries told him.

Instead his student, Dustin Cameron, challenged Aries to a fight. Aries accepted and walked away.

“At least he paid for his membership in advance,” a surprised Carelli said to end the interview segment.

Tessa Blanchard defeated Rebel

Blanchard won with a DDT. Rebel got most of the offense in during the match, allowing Blanchard to show her exceptional selling skills. Blanchard oozes charisma and ring presence, and she appears to be in a league of her own in the Knockouts division.

They showed a package hyping Bound for Glory.

Scarlett Bordeaux appeared in an interview segment looking like a “Price is Right” model in lingerie.

She asked to be referred to as “The Smokeshow.” They set up a fan at her feet to blow her hair as she was being interviewed.

“I want to be an inspiration to little girls everywhere,” she said. “I want to be remembered as the greatest women’s activist of all time like Marilyn Monroe or Cardi B.”

She said she would not be “hot shamed” and that “The Smokeshow is here to make wrestling sexy again.”

Johnny Impact defeated Trevor Lee (w/ Caleb Konley)

The crowd was very much into Impact. Lee resembles a young Bruiser Brody. Impact hit a million corkscrew dives in and out of the ring on Lee.

Impact used the top rope to springboard off of, showing his remarkable athleticism. He also hit an amazing corkscrew splash from the top rope outside of the ring onto both Lee and Konley. Impact won the match with the Starship Pain off the top rope.

After the match, Impact grabbed the microphone. “I can’t even begin to tell you how good it feels to be back in Impact Wrestling,” said the 38-year-old veteran.

He said he wants to become the Impact World Champion, but first he has some unfinished business to take care of against Kongo Kong.

Allie was interviewed and she confessed guilt for not being able to stop Madison Rayne from getting locked in the coffin by Su Yung at Slammiversary. She made a promise to stop Yung. Kiera Hogan showed up and said that Allie was not alone and that she would help her put an end to Yung’s reign as Knockouts Champion.

Flashback Moment of the Week: Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) defeated Generation Me (Max & Jeremy Buck) (No Surrender 2009)

Tazz referred to Generation Me, better known today as The Young Bucks, as “these two young bucks” who were “Christian athletes.” The Motor City Machine Guns won after they hit a “skull on bones” on Jeremy Buck.

X Division Champion Brian Cage defeated Matt Sydal to retain his title

Cage looked big and bloated, but it’s hard not to be impressed by his physique and ability to move like a small guy, even though he’s not. Sydal continued his new age, third eye gimmick and put on a high-flying clinic against the bigger man. At one point, Cage caught Sydal in mid-air and slammed him into the turnbuckle outside the ring.

Later, Cage hit an impressive 619 on Sydal. Cage hit an F-5 that Sydal kicked out of. Cage eventually won with a suplex into a piledriver.

The show ended with Mathews saying Cage had never been submitted or pinned.

**********

By Dave Meltzer

PETEY WILLIAMS VS. TAIJI ISHIMORI VS. FENIX VS. JOHNNY IMPACT

This was an all-action high spot match ending when Impact pinning Fenix with Starship pain.  Fenix was the most impressive of the four but it one big move after another, constant big moves dives and such.  Fenix did great rope work.  Lots of dives.,  This was like X Division heyday.  Everyone did their big moves, Williams with the Canadian Destroyer, Ishimori the tombstone into codebreaker, Fenix did a 450.  Ishimori did a top rope moonsault to the floor.  Fenix did a twisting flip dive.  Williams did a plancha into a hurricanrana on the floor.  Strong match to open.

TESSA BLANCHARD VS. ALLIE

Blanchard escaped from the Allie Valley Driver (Death Valley Bomb) and hit a hammerlock DDT for the pin.  Blanchard has great ring presence and works a very aggressive physical style, very much like a Japanese male wrestler.  It’s a very different thing than any of the WWE women.  Allie did a crossbody off the top to the floor.  She also did her Allie Valley Driver to the floor.  Solidly worked.

TOMMY DREAMER VS. EDDIE EDWARDS IN A HARDCORE RULES MATCH

This was all the ECW cliches like the blood and kendo stick shots.  The story here is that Edwards thought Dreamer was having an affair with his wife.  After it seemed like Edwards wanted to make up but Dreamer shoved him off.  Edwards bled from being stapled in the forehead.  Dreamer used a Spicolli driver off the middle rope through two tables.  Alisha Edwards  came out and told Edwards to shake his hand.  Edwards did shake his na d and they hugged.  Dreamer handed Edwards a kendo stick like this was a passing of the torch to the new hardcore guy.  The crowd was really into this match with ECW chants.  The crowd was upset because Dreamer brought out a table and poured lighter fluid on it, but when Dreamer went to set it on fire, Edwards gave him a low blow and a shining wizard into a chari into Dreamer’s head for the pin.  Crowd wasn’t into one guy winning or losing, they wanted old ECW stunts so that’s why the finish didn’t really work.  The crowd didn’t care about the story either as the handshake when they made up wasn’t cheered either.  They were very into the idea of seeing an ECW match, though.

MATT SYDAL VS. BRIAN CAGE FOR THE X TITLE

Cage won the title with the drill claw after Sydal missed a shooting star press when his feet hit the ropes as he landed short, so Cage is the new champion.  Cage is heavier than I’ve seen in the past.  I think it worked against his style but this was a good match.  Fans were chanting “This is awesome.”  Sydal did some cool stuff as did Cage.  It never felt dramatic.

SU YUNG VS. MADISON RAYNE FOR KNOCKOUTS TITLE

Yung retained in a pretty quick match with the mandible claw.  Rayne had most of the offense and wrestled well.  Yung went to blow mist at Rayne but she moved and Yung blew mist at one of the undead bridesmaids.  Yung picked Rayne up and put her in a coffin after the match.

ORTIZ & SANTANA VS. HOMICIDE & HERNANDEZ IN A STREET FIGHT FOR THE TAG TITLES

This was another weapons match done ECW style.  It felt early too similar to the Dreamer match but this had a lot more cool moves and the fans ended up getting really into this.  The finish saw Konnan throw thumbtacks to Santana and he poured them on the mat.  Santana slammed Homicide him on the thumbtacks and pinned him after a splash off the top rope.  A good mount of blood.  There were three table breaks.  Homicide & Hernandez brought in Drano, which fans thought was lighter fluid so they wanted fire again.  Homicide at one point did a tope con giro which put Santana through a table on the floor.  Ortiz used a Death Valley bomb to put Homicide through a table and Hernandez gave Ortiz a border toss and put him through a table.  After the match  King beat down  LAX with a flapjack and then they beat down Konnan and hit him with the blackjack and then spray painted the tag title belts.

PENTAGON JR. VS. SAMI CALLIHAN MASK VS. HAIR

This was another weapons ECW style match and three is too many for a show but this was easily the best of the three.  Really this was like a classic match of this type in Mexico from the 70s or 80s with the blood and the great heat.  Both used spikes on each other and both juiced.  There was a ref bump as Callihan threw powder and Pentagon couldn’t see and chopped ref John E. Bravo and then Pentagon broke the ref’s arm.  Penta used a Penta driver on Callihan but no ref. Callihan used a piledriver on a chair but again no ref.  A second ref came in but Pentagon kicked out.  Penta gave him a Penta driver on four chairs but Callihan kicked out.  Pentagon broke Callihan’s arm and then used a package piledriver for the pin.  Before Pentagon could cut the hair the Crist brother attacked Pentagon while Callihan bailed.  Don Callis yelled at Callihan about delivering on the stip.  Fenix  chased Callihan back out and Fenix and Pentagon superkicked Callihan and security held the Crist Brothers and they cut Callihan’s hair.

They announced Bound for Glory on October 14, 2018 at the Melrose Ballroom in New York which is the same place Court Bauer has been running.

AUSTIN ARIES VS. MOOSE FOR THE IMPACT TITLE

This was a hell of a main event.  It as hot from start to finish.  Aries looked tremendous and Moose looked like a star.  The match had super heat as well.  Moose speared him but Aries got his hand on the ropes.  Moose missed a dive and crashed onto the ramp.  Aries used a brainbuster on the floor and they teased a count out win but Moose beat the count.  Aries went for a belt shot but Curtis Granderson of the the Toronto Blue Jays took the belt away and Moose got a great near fall with a schoolboy.  But Aries then got the clean pin with a brainbuster to retain the title.

Impact Wrestling results: Slammiversary XVI go-home show

The go-home show for this Sunday’s Slammiversary XVI pay-per-view featured a confrontation between Impact World Champion Austin Aries and his Slammiversary opponent Moose, and a standout in-ring promo for Eddie Edwards calling out Tommy Dreamer.

Killer Kross defeated Petey Williams

The smaller Williams tried to hit-and-run against the larger Kross. He threw several elbows and kicks with Kross no-selling most of the moves.

Williams hit a codebreaker and DDT, but Kross kicked out of a pinfall attempt. Kross hit the Saito suplex, which he calls the Doomsday Saito. Kross then put him in a modified choke before releasing the hold. Kross asked Williams to apply the Destroyer and got into position. Williams got him up, but Kross reversed it into an Alabama slam. Kross applied the chokehold again, this time for the win.

“Who is going to stop Killer Kross? commentator Don Callis yelled.

They showed an interview segment with Madison Rayne talking about how at her daughter’s school they asked everyone what they wanted to be when they grew up and Rayne’s daughter said she wanted to be a superhero like her mother. It was the first of several theatrical, pre-taped segments on the show featuring Rayne’s Slammiversary opponent Su Yung haunting her.

Desi Hit Squad defeated KM & Fallah Bahh

Gama Singh introduced his team as “The pride and joy of all of India.”

The portly Bahh was way over with the crowd. Callis and colleague Josh Mathews started calling KM, “KMPact.” Throughout the match, Callis expressed his disgust with Bahh’s girth and flabby physique. The crowd went nuts when both Bahh and KM rolled over both members of the Hit Squad — twice.

Bahh went for a Yokozuna splash from the second turnbuckle, but Vikas Kumar distracted him from the outside of the ring. That allowed Rohit Raju to schoolboy Bahh for the win.

They showed the first of several OGs and LAX segments, recapping their feud and hyping their match for Slammiversary.

Joe Hendry (w/ Grado and Katarina) defeated Eli Drake

The story of this match and angle is that Katarina is dating Grado but clearly has a crush on Hendry.

Hendry grabbed the mic and showed a pre-taped segment of himself making fun of Drake’s sketches on his YouTube channel.

Drake attacked him early, but Hendry, who wrestles like and whose body looks a lot like a young Scott Hall, rallied. Drake went for a Gravy Train, but Hendry slipped out and rolled him up for the quick pin.

Katarina celebrated in close physical proximity to Hendry, wiping away the happy-go-lucky look on Grado’s face. Grado seems aware of Hendry and Katarina’s mutual attraction but is powerless to stop it. The three walked up the ramp together. At the top, Katarina hugged Hendry. When Grado went to hug Katarina, she moved and left him hanging.

Andrew Everett vs. Dezmond Xavier

The match never happened because Eddie Edwards came down to the ring and attacked the referee with a kendo stick, sending both of the wrestlers scheduled for the match running.

Mathews screamed: “He’s nuts. He’s unhinged. He’s insane,” of Edwards.

Edwards then grabbed the mic and cut an amazing promo on Tommy Dreamer, his opponent at Slammiversary

“There is going to be violence and there is going to be blood. I am going to make you bleed. I am going to feel your blood, your blood in my hands. I am going to taste your blood, Tommy.”

Edwards said “I am the true innovator of violence. At Slammiversary Tommy Dreamer — I am going to be your never-ending nightmare.”

Edwards fell to the ground and made snow angels in the middle of the ring.

The crowd throughout chanted “Tommy, Tommy, Tommy.”

We got more pre-taped video clips of Rayne being haunted by Su Yung. Rayne saw demons and even her daughter in white face paint. The demon told her “Your time has come.” Rayne was then transformed outside, where she was surrounded by the undead brides covered in blood.

Sami Callihan (w/ Jake and Dave Crist) defeated Greg Osbourne

They never showed Osbourne’s name on screen. He carried a boomerang and noted that he was from Australia. Callihan carried a Pentagon Jr. mask with him into the ring. Callis called Callihan a “ravenous wolverine.”

Callihan rolled through Osbourne, even putting the mask on his opponent to mock Pentagon Jr..Callihan screamed “Sami is going to kill you,” before hitting Osbourne with a double chicken wing into a shoulder breaker on the knee, then winning with the pinfall. He threw Osbourne over the top rope.

Pentagon Jr. appeared on the big screen talking in Spanish. Callihan and the Crist brothers chased after him.

Allie & Kiera Hogan defeated Shotzi Blackheart & Tessa Blanchard

Blackheart, with her green hair and athleticism, is a huge crowd favorite. Blanchard, on the other hand, isn’t. Blanchard has a lot of natural wrestling instincts. She played her heel role well, yelling at Blackheart “not to mess things up.”

Hogan has red and orange hair. She hit an impressive dive through the ropes.

Blackheart worked most of the match, and when she went for the tag, Blanchard left her in the ring and walked away. Allie hit the codebreaker to pin Blackheart.

They showed a segment hyping the debut of Scarlett Bordeaux.

Impact World Champion Austin Aries & Moose’s confrontation

Moose returned to Impact after several weeks away from television. The commentators noted that Moose will be bringing his mother to the Slammiversary PPV.

Moose grabbed the microphone and fumbled through a promo. He said he’s been getting ready for Slammiversary and called the PPV the biggest night of his life.

“Austin Aries, if you think for one second these stupid little mind games are going to get to me, then you must be eating a lot of freaking bananas my friend,” Moose said.

He said he was going to shove the banana “up Aries’ ass.”

Aries’ face came on the Impact screen, where he said he wasn’t going to fight Moose on Impact, but was going to wait for Slammiversary. He said Moose was playing checkers while he was playing chess.

“You are going to have to wait,” Aries said.

Just then, Aries, from out of nowhere, snuck up behind an unsuspecting Moose and low blowed him. He hit Moose with a steel chair.

Aries then held his title belt up and looked at the hard camera. Moose stood up behind Aries. Aries, sensing Moose was behind him, turned around to face him. Moose lifted him in the air with a standing choke and threw Aries into the turnbuckle. Moose then grabbed the chair and tried to hit Aries with it, but Aries ducked and ran out of the ring.

They had a staredown before Aries left the ring with his belt.

Impact Wrestling results: Austin Aries attacks DeAngelo Williams

Austin Aries’ attack of DeAngelo Williams, a dynamic high-flying main event, and a theatrical angle involving Su Yung and Madison Rayne highlighted this week’s episode of Impact Wrestling. The show again took place from St. Clair College in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.

The show opened with a video recap of the original LAX’s return, their beatdown of Konnan, and their union with King from a week ago. OG members Homicide and Hernandez then quickly steamrolled a couple of wrestlers in a quick match. Hernandez hit the Razor’s Edge on one of them. The announcers never mentioned their names.

King then cut a promo challenging the LAX members Santana and Ortiz to a 5150 street fight at Slammiversary on July 22.

Allie defeated Shotzi Blackheart

Blackheart, even while losing, stole the show here with her energy, excitement, and green hair. Allie controlled most of the match until she missed a running dropkick into the corner. Shotzi then hit a Kevin Owens-like powerbomb on Allie in the corner. Shotzi, as the announcers called her, hit a flying head kick, but then missed a dive off the top rope. Allie’s offense looks a lot like John Cena’s did early in his career.

Shotzi kept rallying back on Allie but missed a splash off the top rope, allowing Allie to hit a codebreaker for the win.

Commentator Josh Mathews asked if Chris Jericho would be proud of the move. Just as Allie was celebrating, Tessa Blanchard hit the ring and attacked Allie, heisting a hammerlock DDT. Commentator Don Callis said “Tessa Blanchard has a mean streak a mile wide.”

They showed a long video package promo building the Tommy Dreamer vs. Eddie Edwards match at Slammiversary.

They showed another video package of a mystery woman posing in a silhouette, prompting Callis to say, “Who is this woman — and I think I am in love.”

There was another pre-taped video segment featuring Impact World Champion Austin Aries talking about how he was looking forward to hearing an update later in the show from DeAngelo Williams about Moose’s training. He called Williams a “retired, washed-up football player.”

The Flashback Moment of the Week featured TNA Hall of Famer Gail Kim vs. Taryn Terrell, with ODB as the guest referee. Christy Hemme was the ring announcer for the last woman standing match. Terrell got the win after she hit an RKO off the stage onto the ringside mat for the victory.

We were treated to another promo advertising Slammiversary.

Mathews then interviewed Williams in the middle of the ring in front of the live audience. Williams is training another former NFL player, Quinn Ojinnaka, known as Moose, for his upcoming Slammiversary match against Aries.

“I said I’d never do this again, but I am back,” said Williams, who in 2017 had a highly-acclaimed one-and-done match.

Williams said he has been training Moose in the bat cave, but “I can’t say where because there are cheaters in the back trying to figure out what he is doing.” Williams said, “We’re trying to bring home that gold.” He called Aries, “Trash.”

Williams showed footage of Moose training, using weights, a heavy ball, and a sledgehammer. Williams called Aries a “crybaby” and said that Moose was going to take his title. Out came Aries, and Mathews left the ring.

The crowd chanted “Austin Aries,” but Aries responded, “Thank you, but I know my name.”

Aries then berated Williams, calling him an NFL failure who never won a Super Bowl.

“You were forced to retire because nobody wants your services,” Aries said. “Now you are stepping into my ring to be relevant using pro wrestling to be important.”

Aries then hit Williams with a left hook, with the microphone in his hand, dropping the former NFL player. Aries went to hit him with the chair, but Williams ducked and then kicked him in the stomach. Williams was about to hit Aries, but Aries instead kicked Williams between the legs.

 “Three points,” Mathews blurted.

Aries then stood the chair up on Williams’ back and held the belt up high.

Eli Drake defeated Grado (w/ Katarina and Joe Hendry)

Drake has a million-dollar body and Grado had million-dollar charisma. The chubby Grado wrestles like a combination of Dusty Rhodes and Jerry “The King” Lawler.

Grado hit a hurricanrana off the top rope on Drake, who recently renewed his contract with Impact Wrestling. Grado then performed the Dusty elbow to drop Drake. He also pulled down both of the straps on his wrestling singlet, prompting Callis to scream for the technicians to digitize Grado’s flabby chest.

Drake, however, rallied and hit a clothesline for the win.

Katarina and Hendry then came into the ring. Katarina got into Drake’s face and Callis said, “look at her looking at Eli — and who can blame her, he’s hot.”

There was a backstage interview segment with Matt Sydal talking about his upcoming match with Brian Cage.

They announced that Tessa Blanchard would wrestle Allie at Slammiversary.

Moose, who apparently has the Brock Lesnar schedule because he has not appeared on TV in a few weeks, then did a telephone interview talking about his match with Aries.

In yet another interview segment, Madison Rayne called Slammiversary “the biggest night of the summer.” Seconds after the backstage interview started, she heard a weird noise from around a doorway. She chased it, but couldn’t find anything. When she returned, there was a white sheet with the words “your time has come” scrawled. She turned around and saw the tail of a wedding dress turning the corner.

Rayne chased the dress. She walked into a studio and the door shut behind her and locked.

Sami Callihan & OVE defeated Rich Swann, Fenix & Pentagon Jr.

This was a tornado match where tags were not needed and everybody was in the match at the same time. The match began with everybody superkicking everybody.

Mathews asked what is it about Callihan that makes him a leader? Callis responded: “Why don’t you ask me why David Koresh was a leader? Why Jim Jones was a leader? It’s sick. It’s a sickness. He’s able to lead the weak-minded, the Crist brothers and everyone in Ohio for that matter.”

Everyone in the match impressed, performing a series of aerial moves. Dave Crist superplexed Swann to hit everyone else outside the ring

Swann went for a hurricanrana and Callihan reversed it into a powerbomb. Jake Crist hit a diamond cutter on Swann from the top rope that was timed perfectly. Callihan eventually hit a double chicken wing into a shoulder breaker onto his knee for the victory. The crowd chanted “This is awesome” several times throughout the match.

Callis said it was “maybe the greatest tag match I have ever seen.”

As was previously announced, Pentagon and Callihan will wrestle in a mask vs. hair match at Slammiversary.

To end the show, they cut back to Rayne, who was still stuck in the locked studio room. She finally opened the door, only to see her world transformed into a dark, eerie nighttime set.

She walked slowly — when suddenly the undead brides came at her and were chanting “your time has come.”

The brides disappeared and then Su Yung appeared. She put her hand in Rayne’s face and said “your time has come,” as the show ended.

Impact Wrestling results: Fenix and Rich Swann tear down the house

Some surprises and a good match spotlighted this week’s Impact. The show built strong leading into Slammiversary on July 22.

Fenix defeated Rich Swann

The former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann and Fenix conjured up memories of the famed first Ricochet vs. Will Ospreay match.

These two light heavyweights were in sync with an array of aerial moves better than most 205 Live matches. Swann, wrestling for the second time on Impact, made his entrance a la No Way Jose, dancing and getting the crowd into the match.

This was full of dynamic aerial moves. Fenix walked the tightrope on the top rope and then bounced three times before flipping Swann into an arm drag early in the match. He hit a standing dropkick that sent Swann crashing outside of the ring. Swann hit a moonsault off the apron, but Fenix caught him. Fenix then tried the same move but missed and landed on his feet — only to receive a well-executed corkscrew splash from Swann off the top rope.

Fenix got up and hit his own divingsplash over the top that he turned into a modified slingblade

Fenix performed a moonsault inside, but instead of landing with a body splash, he landed on his feet and rolled the move into a diamond cutter. He tried it again, but Swann countered with a handstand instead of landing face first.

The two rested from the high-flying moves for awhile, trading chops like they were Steamboat and Ric Flair in Nashville.

The match was an aerial move clinic, with hurricanranas followed by moonsaults and several near falls. Although Swann’s facial expressions after Fenix’s power moves bordered on over-acting, this was as good as any of his WWE matches. At one point, Swann kicked out of a tombstone piledriver into a pin. Fenix got the win after executing a perfect spinning Muscle Buster.

“This is the way you start a wrestling show, ladies and gentleman” Josh Mathews said.

The Crist brothers then quickly attacked Fenix after the match, leading to Pentagon Jr. making the save — or so we thought. It turned out that it was Sami Callihan under the mask. Swann tried to help Fenix, but Callihan spit into Swann’s face. He was about to take Fenix’s mask off, when the real Pentagon Jr. made the save, getting the crowd to chant “Pentagon.”

There was a brief interview segment with Madison Rayne and the returning Allie, who vowed to seek revenge on Su Yung, who locked her in a casket to win the Knockouts Championship.

“Su you think that you killed me. No, you just brought another side of me to life,” Allie said.

Killer Kross defeated Fallah Bahh (w/ KM)

The 425-pound Bahh is one of those wrestlers you can’t take your eyes off because of his girth and size, but he was no match for the debuting Killer Kross. Commentator Matthews declared, “This man is psychotic!”

The two behemoths ran into each other to start the match, but then Kross backed Bahh into the corner and started pounding on him. Bahh reversed it, then delivered several stiff chops that turned Kross’ chest read. Kross dared Bahh to hit him as hard as he could. Mathews said it was “shades ofKenta Kobashi with the rapid-fire chops.”

Kross hit an impressive side suplex on the meaty Bahh and then choked him out with what Don Callis called “an MMA-style choke.” Kross continued to pound Bahh with right hands to his back after the match, prompting KM to make the save. Kross choked him out too.

Finally, Petey Williams rushed the ring with a steel chair; he hit Kross on the back with the chair and eventually threw it into Kross’ face, knocking him out of the ring. Kross then walked backed to the dressing room.

Flashback Moment: Rob Van Dam defeated Sting

Sting wrestled in his shirt in this 2010 match. This was all of RVD’s signature moves on display, with Taz and Mike Tenay on commentary. After RVD accidentally took out Earl Hebner, Jeff Jarrett came to the ring and hit Sting with his own baseball bat, allowing RVD to execute a five-star frog splash for the win.

Allie & Madison Rayne defeated Su Yung & her Undead Maid of Honor

Su Yung, wearing a bloodied wedding dress, has a great gimmick, although her Undead Bridesmaids should probably stay out of the ring. The Undead Maid of Honor wrestled stiff and slow and no-sold most of the moves. She essentially wrestled like a zombie.

Allie and Rayne mostly had their way with the Undead Bridesmaid. Rayne accidentally took out the referee executing a Cross Rayne. Tessa Blanchard, who Rayne defeated on last week’s episode, interfered, but Allied jumped in and took care of Blanchard, allowing Rayne to hit the Cross Rayne on the Undead Maid of Honor for the pinfall victory.

Next was an interview segment with LAX and the Desi Hit Squad, who are training under the verbal and physical commands of Gama Singh.

Then, in one of the highlight’s of the show, we got a video package from Impact World Champion Austin Aries. Aries will defend the title against former NFL player Quinn “Moose” Ojinnaka at Slammiversary.

Aries was great here, saying “This wasn’t my dream. This is what I was born to do.” Aries said he started wrestling when he was 17 and that wrestling was always his first choice, unlike Moose, who he said chose wrestling after his NFL career failed. The video package showed a variety of pictures of a younger Aries with longer hair.

Aries snuck in a great line and shot at his former WWE employer Vince McMahon. “After I beat you, your new dream is to hope the XFL needs a new offensive lineman.”

Advertised for next week was former NFL player DeAngelo Williams, who will apparently help train Moose for his match with Aries.

Tommy Dreamer cut a taped promo with blood all over his face vowing revenge on Eddie Edwards, who attacked him a week ago with a kendo stick. The two will meet at Slammiversary.

Katarina (w/ Grado) defeated Rebel

This was a quick match with Katarina winning with a backbreaker onto her knee.

Brian Cage defeated Kongo Kong

Cage was impressive in this match, executing several high-flying moves.

The 265-pound Cage hit a somersault plancha over the top rope and Callis said, “I have seen Kenny Omega do that dive but he’s not 265 pounds.” Cage hit a 619 on Kong, landed a belly to back suplex, hit a superplex, and then pinned Kong with an F-5. It was an impressive outing for Cage, who showed he was capable of power and aerial moves, which was not an easy feat on the giant Kong.

The show ended with an LAX segment. Konnan came out wearing a Mexican flag around his neck. He called out King, whom he suspects “put a hit” on him at the Redemption pay-per-view. Konnan said that King betrayed him after he helped the wrestler earn his first $100,000.

The rest of LAX, Santana and Ortiz, came out with King, who eventually admitted that he was behind the Konnan attack because LAX needed a new leader. Konnan called King “a walking, talking glory hole,” leading the crowd into a “glory hole” chant.

“I’m the future, you’re the past,” King told Konnan.

After that comment, Ortiz and Santana flipped King off, but then original LAX members Homicide and Hernandez entered the ring and attacked Konnan, Santana, and Ortiz, setting up a six-man feud between rival LAX members.

Impact Wrestling results: Rich Swann debuts, Rayne vs. Blanchard

Impact took place this week from Windsor, Ontario, Canada and the St. Clair College Sports Complex.

Madison Rayne kicked off the show in the ring, declaring that she wants to become a six-time Knockouts Champion.

Rayne said she told her daughter not to be afraid of monsters — so what kind of inspiration would she be if she couldn’t challenge Su Yung, the Knockouts Champion.

Tessa Blanchard interrupted the speech and came to the ring.

“It’s not 2011 anymore,” Blanchard said. “You are not the best anymore — because I am.”

Blanchard reminded everyone that she is a third-generation wrestler. “I have been in this business since before I was born,” she said.

Rayne interrupted and reminded Blanchard she defeated her in the past.

The lights flickered and laughter played through the PA system, hinting that Yung and her Undead Bridesmaids were near, but instead Blanchard smacked Rayne with a forearm.

Rich Swann defeated Trevor Lee

Swann, who was making his Impact debut, swaggered to the ring doing a dancing gimmick. His head was shaved on the top with longer hair in the back than during his WWE run.

Announcer Josh Mathews said Swann “has been on one of the biggest stages in the world.”

Swann delivered several stiff kicks, prompting Mathews to say: “with kicks like that I am surprised Rich Swann isn’t playing in the World Cup right now.”

Swann showcased several of his aerial moves, including a tilt-a-whirl into a huricanrana, then an impressive dive over the top rope onto Lee. He pinned Lee with a 720 moonsault splash, landing on his thigh area.

They showed clips of Sami Callihan attacking Pentagon Jr. after a match inside a steel cage at PCW Ultra in Los Angeles. In the clip, Callihan and the Crist brothers triple teamed Pentagon, and actually removed his mask, sending Pentagon crashing to the ring face forward in shame.

Slammiversary moment: Raven defeated AJ Styles, X-Pac, Abyss, and Monty Brown in a King of the Mountain match to win the NWA World Championship (2005)

It’s always remarkable to see Styles in TNA, with his short hair. Who knew he’d rule WWE SmackDown 13 years later as champion?

The match took place inside the six-sided ring, with trash cans, tables, ladders and chairs.

The purpose of this match is to hang the championship above the ladder on a hook, sort of the opposite of Money in the Bank. In one of the several high spots of the match, X-Pac hit Styles with an X-Factor off the top of the ladder. Later, Abyss pushed Styles and X-Pac off the top of a ladder onto a table. Raven got the win, capturing the NWA World Championship.

The Desi Hit Squad defeated DJ Z & Andrew Everett

Gama Singh introduced Rohit Raju and Gursinder Singh as “the future of tag team wrestling.”

Z&E were fresh off of losing their Tag Team titles against LAX last week. This match was a showcase for Everett’s high flying moves. Z&E hit double moonsaults on Singh and appeared poised for the win, but Gama Singh jumped on the apron and distracted the ref, allowing Singh to roll up Everett in a schoolboy for the victory.

In a video, Pentagon challenged Callihan to a mask vs. hair match at Slammiversary

They aired a long video package of Quinn “Moose” Ojinnaka, chronicling his family and football career leading into Slammiversary, where he will challenge Austin Aries for the Impact World Championship.

We then got filmed footage from Philadelphia and a House of Hardcore show where Eddie Edwards pummeled a bloodied Tommy Dreamer with a kendo stick. Edwards had a look of euphoria on his face every time he beat Dreamer.

Moose followed Edwards outside of the arena and Edwards screamed “Leave me the f*ck alone.”

X Division Champion Matt Sydal defeated Dezmond Xavier

Sydal worked a mostly slow-paced match against the high-flying Xavier. He worked Xavier’s knee for most of the match, but Xavier was able to break free, hitting a diving splash over the top rope outside of the ring on Sydal. Announcers Don Callis and Mathews made note that Xavier was attempting high-flying moves, but lacked the ring psychology of Sydal in the match.

Sydal pushed the referee into the ropes, forcing the top-rope climbing Xavier to fall. Sydal hit a pumphandle slam for the three count.

Brian Cage then lumbered out to the ring looking to attack Sydal, but was blindsided by Kongo Kong. Jimmy Jacobs walked out to the ring and ordered the nearly 400-pound Kong to deliver a splash from the top rope onto Cage.

Aries in an interview said Moose “failed in his first career” of football and that he would fail again at Slammiversary. “I know when I am looking in a desperate man’s eyes,” Aries said. “You are desperate.”

Madison Rayne defeated Tessa Blanchard

This was a good match, worked tight. Blanchard displayed some incredible angry facials during it. She dominated most of the match, hitting several clotheslines and power moves on Rayne. The two engaged in a good back-and-forth elbow display.

The finish came after Rayne hit a tornado punch on Blanchard and then a running boot, but Blanchard recovered and countered with a quick kick to the ribs. Blanchard pounded on her with right hands and then went for a standing full nelson. Rayne countered the move into a crucifix for the win.

After the match, Blanchard attacked Rayne from behind and laid her out in the middle of the ring.

Blanchard was about to hit Rayne with a chair when champion Su Yung interrupted and came out with her zombie-ish undead brides, covered in bloody dresses.

The group surrounded Rayne in the ring and they all started swinging at her. Suddenly, former Knockouts Champion Allie reappeared, running in to scare the creepy group away.

Impact Wrestling results: Sydal vs. Cage, Moose vs. Eli Drake

The show opened with the over-the-top entrance of Grado, accompanied by Katarina. Eddie Edwards quickly interrupted. He pulled Grado from the top rope and hit him with the Singapore cane.

Edwards called out Tommy Dreamer, calling him a fraud. Edwards was angry that Dreamer interrupted his fight in the woods with Sami Callihan last week.

Dreamer tried to use reason with Edwards. He told him to put the cane down. Edwards called the hardcore legend a fraud for wanting to stop violence when Dreamer made his reputation as a hardcore fighter. Dreamer said we know more about concussions now and head injuries now than in the 1990s.

Dreamer tried praise, telling Edwards that he had all the talent in the world to be Impact Champion. Edwards smacked Dreamer over the head with the cane. Dreamer, once recovered, walked angrily backstage and said he was quitting the promotion.

Taya Valkyrie defeated Rebel

Rebel put on a splits display throughout the match. As the heel, Valkyrie controlled the pace of much of the match. Rebel rallied to hit a Kinshasa that led two a two-count. She went for a moonsault and landed on her feet, but Valkyrie hit a spear, then a double chicken wing front face splash for the win.

An out-of-breath Valkyrie grabbed the mic and challenged Madison Rayne.

“Put your hands together and give Madison Rayne a round of applause because she is back in the Impact Zone,” she said, before telling the crowd to show up. Valkyrie called herself “Lucha royalty,” and said “This is my kingdom.”

Flashback Moment of the Week: AJ Styles defeated Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe to win the X Division Championship (Unbreakable 2005)

This was a flashback match to when TNA was still the brand and they wrestled in a six-sided ring.

The crowd was totally hot for the match, which was a reminder of the talent that was once in TNA.

In one of the many highlights, Styles hit a Pele kick on Joe, put him in a torture rack backbreaker, and then dropped him on his back. Daniels saved the pin. Styles hit a Styles Clash on Daniels, but Joe broke up the pinfall. Eventually, Styles reversed a double-arm back suplex to drop Daniels on his back for the pinfall to win the X Division Championship.

Cult of Lee (Trevor Lee & Caleb Konley) defeated KM & Fallah Bahh

Bahh was over largely because of his physique, a short, round guy. Commentator Josh Mathews said KM and Bahh were being recruited by Hollywood for a film. During his entrance, Bahh picked up a sign that said “#fat kids rule the world.”

There were lots of double team spots with Bahh and KM working over either Konley or Lee. At one point both members of Cult of Lee were laid out inside the ring and the hefty Bahh rolled over them — twice.

Cult of Lee won after Bahh got his eyes raked, and then, unable to see, gave KM a Samoan drop, when KM was trying to help him. Konley pinned KM.

Bahh and KM argued after the match. KM pushed Bahh to the ground and then said he was “done” before walking away from the ring.

Moose defeated Eli Drake

The match took place from the old ECW Arena in Philadelphia. On the line was a title shot against Austin Aries at Slammiversary.

This was a long, methodical match. There was a good spot where Moose swung Drake by the legs, Cesaro style, into the guard rails on the outside of the ring.

Drake hit a cool superplex, but Moose kicked out.

Moose won after a spear for the pin on Drake, and will now challenge Aries at Slammiversary.

Tessa Blanchard defeated Kiera Hogan in a no DQ match

Hogan got the match started quickly with several elbows to Blanchard’s chest outside the ring. Hogan, wearing red and yellow, landed several stiff right hands.

This was a no disqualification match. Blanchard eventually turned the tide, hitting Hogan with two hard dropkicks into her back, as she was leaning up against the ropes.

The two exchanged several hardcore spots using a steel chair.

Blanchard won after throwing Hogan face first onto a steel chair for the pin.

El Hijo Del Fantasma defeated Jake Crist

Fantasma is the AAA Latin American Champion. Not much of a match. Fantasma won with a flying body scissors that he transitioned into a roll-up for the win.

After the match, brother Dave Crist and Sami Callihan triple teamed Fantasma, nearly removing his mask. The lights dimmed and out came Pentagon, chasing Callihan and the Crist brothers from the scene.

X-Division Champion Matt Sydal defeated Brian Cage by countout

Mathews noted that Brian Cage beat Bobby Lashley twice recently. Sydal, with his long hair, was looking a lot like Dolph Ziggler

The match consisted of Sydal trying to stick and move while Cage stalked him. Sydal used his quickness to hit a kick to the head and then a splash. Cage ,however, popped up, and then curled him several times like he was a barbell, before dumping him on his back. Cage then delivered 10 clotheslines to Sydal against the corner turnbuckle.

The match was then interrupted by Jimmy Jacobs and Kongo Kong, who stood on the ramp. Thanks to their presence, Sydal rallied

Cage hit a superplex from the bottom rope inside of the ring. Sydal tried a hurricanrana and Cage caught him and threw him into the turnbuckle.

Cage was exhausted during the match. It spilled to the outside and, when the referee wasn’t looking, Kong threw Cage into the steel steps, forcing Cage to lose by countout. It was Cage’s first loss.

Impact Wrestling results: Callihan and Edwards face off in the woods

Impact Tag Team Champions DJ Z & Andrew Everett defeated Aerostar & Drago to retain their titles

The match featured some quality chain wrestling and several high spots from the high-flyers. It kicked off with Aerostar performing several flips and somersaults in the ring, only to have Everett match them — to the delight of the crowd. Aerostar’s moveset resembled Rey Mysterio Jr.

Everett hit a hurricanrana against Drago to slow down the pace of the match. Aerostar and Drago then cut off the ring well with frequent tags and a double team before Everett broke free and made the hot tag to Z.

The match ended with several high-flying moves, including Drago back body dropping Z over the top rope. Everett later hit a corkscrew moonsault, jumping from the back of Z, who then executed a dive through the legs of Everett and the second and third rope onto Aerostar on the outside. Everett than did a springboard moonsault onto Drago.

Everett hit a 720 flip off the top rope to pin Aerostar to retain the Tag Team titles.

Back in the studio, Don Callis and Josh Mathews hyped the upcoming unsanctioned fight between Sami Callihan and Eddie Edwards. Callis said he would never participate in an unsanctioned fight because there’s no health insurance for that kind of battle. They also showed a video package of new Knockouts Champion Su Yung, looking evil and maniacal.

The show then featured a long flashback match between RVD and Tommy Dreamer, a match that looked slow by comparison to the fast-paced action of the episode’s opener. RVD won with the frog splash off the top rope.

LAX defeated The Cult of Lee (Trevor Lee & Caleb Konley)

King is now managing Santana and Ortiz. With his brawling style and long, curly hair, Trevor Lee looks like a skinnier version of Bruiser Brody. The match featured some good back-and-forth, tag team wrestling. Lee hit a belly-to-back suplex, setting up Conley for a cover, but Ortiz kicked out.

Lee went for a powerbomb, but Ortiz flipped him over, then crotched Conley on the top rope. Ortiz hit a rolling cutter, allowing Santana to get the pin on Conley.

Eli Drake Fact of Life segment

Eli Drake showed a lot of charisma in this segment, where he listed the five Impact Dummies:

  • 5. The fans of Impact Wrestling
  • 4. Austin Aries
  • 3. Impact Wrestling management
  • 2. The fans of Impact Wrestling (again)
  • 1. Moose

Drake hit a buzzer every time he called someone a dummy, while a dummy icon showed up simultaneously on the TV screen.

Moose came out to interrupt Drake. \ Mathews called Moose “the best pure athlete in Impact Wrestling.”

Moose called Drake a loser.  “I don’t need gold because I am gold,” he barked, before Drake punched Moose.  Moose kicked him, but Drake gave him a low blow and the Gravy Train. Drake then threw the microphone stand onto Moose.

Brian Cage defeated Rohit Raju

Raju tried some flying moves off the chest of Cage, but he was too strong, and Cage quickly overwhelmed him with his power. Cage pinned Raju with the Weapon X..

X-Division Champion Matt Sydal came out and tried to convince Cage to join forces.

Sydal told him “you’re jacked, you’re tan, and you can throw just about anyone around.”

Still, Cage has even more potential. “I can open your third eye,” Sydal told Cage. Sydal said “inner strength separates challengers and champions,” before Sydal asked him to forgo his title shot.

Cage then grabbed him and gave him an F5.

Mathews interviewed a shirtless Austin Aries via satellite.

Sami Callihan vs. Eddie Edwards (unsanctioned match in the woods)

This was a bizarre match, looking like a combination of The Final Deletion and the 2016 WWE outdoor match between The New Day and the Wyatt Family.

Under a full moon, Edwards spent most of the jump-cut match screaming for “Sami!” and walking through the nighttime dark forest. He took out OVE first, choking one out with a two-by-four.

When Callihan finally appeared, the match involved a bull’s horns, a baseball bat, and even a collar-and-elbow tie-up, amid a forest of trees. After some brawling and a sunset flip on the dirt, there was a moment of blood when Edwards used a broken horn to mangle Callihan’s face.

Just as Edwards seemed to subdue Callihan, Tommy Dreamer and Alisha arrived in a car. Edwards attacked Dreamer, hitting him with some kind of rod in the stomach, before screaming in the woods to end the show.
