RETRIBUTION join WWE Raw roster, three names revealed

RETRIBUTION revealed on Raw that their core five members have signed contracts with the company.

The five members of the group opened up Raw tonight, revealing new masks with more visible faces. Dio Maddin (Mace), Donovan Dijakovic (T-Bar) and Shane Thorne (Slapjack) were later identified on the show with new names. Mia Yim and Mercedes Martinez also had new masks, but were not identified.

It was during the opening of the show that returning announcer Tom Phillips said that RETRIBUTION had been given contracts. Yim said that despite signing contracts, they were not going to be stopped. T-Bar said that they were here to destroy the WWE and rebuild it in their image.

The segment eventually ended with The Hurt Business coming out. However, they were quickly taken out by the secondary RETRIBUTION members. T-Bar and Mace laid out Lashey with a double chokeslam.

RETRIBUTION appeared several times on the show, attacking Titus O’Neil and Humberto Carrillo backstage. The Hurt Business later took out more secondary members of RETRIBUTION in another segment.

In the main event, Mace, T-Bar & Slapjack faced Cedric Alexander, Shelton Benjamin and Bobby Lashley in a six-man tag team match. The match ended in a DQ when T-Bar, who wasn’t the legal man, attacked Lashley.

The show ended with all of RETRIBUTION, including the secondary members, attacking The Hurt Business. The rest of the Raw roster, headed by Drew McIntyre, came out for the save. McIntyre, however, was laid out by Randy Orton, his opponent at WWE Clash of Champions on Sunday.

WWE Raw video highlights: The Hurt Business & RETRIBUTION brawl

A brawl between The Hurt Business and RETRIBUTION broke out after the main event of last night’s “In Your Face” edition of Raw.

A non-title match between WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and Keith Lee headlined last night’s show. The match had a stipulation where — following the angle where Randy Orton was laid out by three Claymores by McIntyre last week — Lee would have taken Orton’s place at Clash of Champions if he defeated McIntyre last night and Orton isn’t able to wrestle at the pay-per-view. Instead, McIntyre vs. Lee ended in a no contest after being interrupted by RETRIBUTION.

MVP, Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander then made their way out and brawled with RETRIBUTION. The show ended with McIntyre and Lee hitting simultaneous flip dives onto a pile outside of the ring.

Alexander defeated Ricochet earlier on last night’s Raw. As The Hurt Business were celebrating, RETRIBUTION appeared on the video screen and cut a promo. They said they once believed that their time at the Performance Center would lead them to fame and wealth, but they refuse to suck up to an entitled regime. They said they’re the product of empty promises and the result of lies, greed, and betrayal. They called WWE a corrupt machine and an entity that casts people aside like garbage.

After the RETRIBUTION promo, The Hurt Business approached Adam Pearce backstage. MVP mentioned that Pearce will need to find a solution to the RETRIBUTION problem soon or Pearce will be out of a job. MVP said it’s time for Pearce to upgrade his security from boys to men. Pearce thanked MVP for volunteering, but MVP said they don’t do charity work and he’ll be sending Pearce a bill.

Dominik Dijakovic, Mercedes Martinez, Dio Maddin, Mia Yim, and Shane Thorne are the five featured members of RETRIBUTION.

Bobby Lashley wins United States title at WWE Payback

Bobby Lashley is the new WWE United States champion.

Lashley defeated Apollo tonight in a back and forth match where he won the title by submission, latching on the full nelson.

This marks Lashley’s second reign as champion, his first in over a decade. He first won the title back on the May 23, 2006 edition of SmackDown, defeating John Bradshaw Layfield.

Apollo has been feuding with MVP, Bobby Lashley, and Shelton Benjamin, collectively known as The Hurt Business, in recent months. He was originally supposed to face MVP at Extreme Rules for the United States title, but was unable to due to what announcers described as an injury.

Last Sunday at SummerSlam, Apollo defeated MVP in a United States title match. A match was then made between him and Lashley for the title the following day on Raw.

Apollo Crews had held the championship for 97 days, defeating Andrade on the May 25th edition of Raw.

WWE SummerSlam notes: Rey Mysterio, The Hurt Business

Raw’s go-home show for SummerSlam featured a couple of developments regarding matches set for Sunday’s pay-per-view.

Rey Mysterio will be in his son Dominik’s corner when Dominik makes his in-ring debut against Seth Rollins in a street fight at SummerSlam. Mysterio returned to WWE television tonight for the first time since losing his Eye for an Eye match against Rollins at Extreme Rules last month. Mysterio and Dominik got revenge on Rollins and Murphy on tonight’s Raw, attacking them with kendo sticks.

Murphy will be in Rollins’ corner on Sunday.

MVP’s Hurt Business stablemates Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin will be banned from ringside for Apollo Crews’ United States Championship defense against MVP at SummerSlam. That was a stipulation of Crews defeating Benjamin on tonight’s Raw. Later in the night, The Hurt Business defeated Crews, Ricochet & Mustafa Ali in an elimination tag match.

Here’s the current list of announced matches for SummerSlam:

  • WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defending against Randy Orton
  • Raw Women’s Champion Sasha Banks defending against Asuka
  • SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defending against Asuka
  • Universal Champion Braun Strowman defending against “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt
  • Raw Tag Team Champions The Street Profits defending against Andrade & Angel Garza
