Jeff Jarrett and Global Force Entertainment Inc. have filed a lawsuit against Anthem Sports, the parent company of Impact Wrestling, citing copyright and trademark infringement.
PWInsider first reported on the lawsuit earlier today, and Pro Wrestling Sheet uploaded the lawsuit, which claims that Anthem, along with their Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions company. have continued to use and profit footage from the Global Force Wrestling Amped tapings from several years ago without Jarrett’s permission.
The suit claims that both parties talked about merging back in December of 2016, and in May of 2017 signed a term sheet. The document noted that GFE would retain all rights to the Amped footage. The plans for the two companies to merge were never finalized and were dropped when Jarrett was fired from Impact Wrestling in October of that year.
Despite the non-merger, the lawsuit claims that Anthem has continued to profit off of the Amped content, which was distributed as a four part pay-per-view series, and has failed to provide any compensation towards Global Force Entertainment or Jeff Jarrett. They also said that Impact does not have a license allowing them to distribute the footage, which has been shown on the Fight Network website, Anthem’s wrestling distribution service Global Wrestling Network and is also available on Impact’s online store in DVD form.
Additionally, the lawsuit also brought up similarities between the Global Wrestling Network and Global Force Wrestling, citing the similar green colors and name.
Jarrett and GFE seek punitive or treble damages at least three times the amount of Anthem’s profits or GFE’s damages, whichever is greater, due to what they say is “the nature of the defendants wanton and willful conduct.” They also look to have all of the footage from the Amped tapings, as well as any other additional footage, destroyed and removed from Anthem’s archives, save for the original masters which GFE wants back.
Eli Drake is the new GFW Unified World Champion following tonight’s tapings in Florida.
In a 20-man gauntlet match, Drake entered as the first participant and outlasted everyone else, last eliminating Eddie Edwards to win the title. This will air on the August 24th edition of Impact.
On the episode that aired tonight, it was officially announced that former champion Alberto El Patron had been stripped of the title. Bruce Prichard first tried to award it to Bobby Lashley, but Jim Cornette returned as an on-screen authority figure and set up the gauntlet match.
The move to strip El Patron was made earlier this week following GFW’s investigation of the Orlando International Airport incident between El Patron and fiancee Paige from July. GFW released a statement saying that “While it is apparent that initial reports unfairly characterized El Patron’s involvement in the incident in the Orlando airport, we are nonetheless disappointed with the manner in which he dealt with this situation, we expect more decorum from all on the GFW roster, especially the World Champion.”
While their investigation of the incident has concluded, El Patron remains suspended.
Drake, 34, had been in NXT as Slate Randall before joining Global Force Wrestling in 2015, most recently teaming with Chris Adonis, aka Chris Masters.
Previously: LAX continued to target Alberto El Patron and his family.
Tonight: Alberto El Patron takes on LAX in a gauntlet match. Plus, Knockouts Champion Sienna battles Rosemary in a last Knockout standing match.

Next Week: Grand Champion Moose defends against Ethan Carter III. Plus, Destination X is coming up in three weeks.
While most of the conversation was supposed to be about Global Force Wrestling’s post-Slammiversary plans and the company’s recent rebrand, Jeff Jarrett addressed Alberto El Patron’s suspension on a conference call with the pro wrestling media today.
GFW noted that their statement would be all they’re saying for now while requesting that questions about El Patron not be asked, but Jarrett called the situation with El Patron being investigated for domestic battery “unfortunate” and said that they’re continuing to dig into the matter.
One of the first questions asked was about whether El Patron would be edited out of upcoming episodes of Impact like TNA had to do with Hernandez when his contract with Lucha Underground prohibited him from appearing on TV. Jarrett said that the situations weren’t similar due to Hernandez not legally being allowed to be shown, then said that everyone knows that the incident happened after they taped and that he thought it would further damage their brand to edit footage out.
A question was later posed about whether El Patron would be stripped of the GFW Unified World Championship, with Jarrett saying that it hasn’t been addressed yet because it’s far from what’s most important right now.
Elsewhere on the call, Jarrett maintained that Anthem owns the “Broken Hardys” characters and stated that there’s been no agreement for The Hardys to acquire the rights to them.
Global Force Wrestling has suspended Alberto El Patron until the investigation into him for domestic battery is resolved.
The company issued a statement today: “Global Force Wrestling has indefinitely suspended Alberto El Patron, effective immediately, until the investigation is resolved following a recent incident in Orlando, Florida.”
Prior to suspending him, GFW had noted that they were taking the incident seriously and that they would fully investigate it and cooperate with law enforcement.
El Patron was detained at the Orlando International Airport on Sunday following what one witness referred to as “an altercation” between him and Paige. TMZ later released audio of the incident, confirming that it was between El Patron and Paige after Paige had tweeted that they were the ones to get police involved after a fan threw a drink into El Patron’s face.
In posts on Facebook, Paige’s brothers both alleged that El Patron has physically abused their sister.
El Patron defeated Bobby Lashley at Slammiversary to become GFW’s Unified Champion. He was one of the focal points of the post-PPV television tapings, and Jeff Jarrett clarified on a media conference call that he won’t be edited out of upcoming shows.
The Impact TV tapings following Sunday night’s Slammiversary pay-per-view featured some notable angles, including a retirement announcement and participants being revealed for the returning Super X Cup.
Gail Kim appeared during the tapings and announced that this would be her last year wrestling, stating that she would be returning soon and would end her career on top. Kim has been wrestling since 2000, spending the vast majority of her career wrestling for WWE and Impact, winning the WWE Women’s Championship once and the Impact Knockouts title six times.
It was also announced that the Super X Cup would be making a return after a 12-year absence. The eight-man single elimination tournament will pit wrestlers from various promotions and countries against one another, with the winner most likely becoming the number one contender for the X Division title.
The eight participants in the returning Super X Cup are: Sammy Guevara (WWN, Texas independent scene), Drago (AAA/Lucha Underground), ACH (EVOLVE/indies, formerly of ROH), Andrew Everett (GFW), Taiji Ishimori (NOAH), Davey Richards (GFW), Dezmond Xavier (GFW), and Idris Abraham (GFW).
Matches held on this taping included Xavier defeating Abraham and ACH defeating Everett. The last Super X Cup was held in 2005, with Samoa Joe defeating AJ Styles in the finals.
The Impact tapings ended with a rematch from Slammiversary, pitting unified GFW/Impact Champion Alberto El Patron against Bobby Lashley. LAX came out and attacked Lashley for the DQ, with Konnan announcing that El Patron was the newest member of LAX.
El Patron left with the rest of LAX, seemingly exhausted from the match and not making any comments about his new affiliations.
Impact Wrestling returns to pay-per-view tonight with a show that will further the company’s rebrand into Global Force Wrestling.
Both Impact and GFW gold will be on the line in the main event. Impact World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Lashley faces GFW Global Champion Alberto El Patron in a match where it’s winner-take-all. The same goes for the Impact and GFW Women’s Championships, with Knockouts Champion Rosemary facing GFW Women’s Champion Sienna.
The feud between Josh Mathews and Jeremy Borash will get physical as Mathews teams with Scott Steiner against JB & Joseph Park. In another tag team match, NFL free agent DeAngelo Williams will make his in-ring debut as he teams with Moose against Eli Drake & Chris Adonis.
Elsewhere on the show, EC3 will face James Storm in a strap match, the X Division title will be up for grabs as Sonjay Dutt defends against Low Ki in a two-out-of-three falls match, LAX defend their Impact/GFW tag titles in a four-way match, and Eddie & Alisha Edwards take on Davey Richards & Angelina Love in a Full Metal Mayhem match.
Our coverage begins at 8 p.m. ET.

When it was announced earlier this week that Impact Wrestling’s parent company had officially acquired Global Force Wrestling, it wasn’t entirely clear if that would result in any noticeable change in operations.
Now, it appears that Impact Wrestling is rebranding as Global Force Wrestling. A report from The Tennessean noted that today, with it saying that the move is to distance the company from the financial trouble and legal drama that had surrounded it under previous ownership.
The report said that the company’s weekly TV show will still be called Impact and their offices will remain in Nashville.
The Impact Wrestling Twitter account also shared The Tennessean’s story.
“We’re a global brand,” Jeff Jarrett said. “We have partnerships in Mexico, Japan, other places. Collectively coming together, we’ve combined forces and basically the rebrand final touches happen at Slammiversary.”
Anthem Executive Vice President Ed Nordholm claimed that the rebrand was necessary due to the double entendre of the old TNA name and because of negative media coverage that the promotion received.
Impact Wrestling and Global Force Wrestling had become increasingly intertwined since Jeff Jarrett returned and took charge of creative after Anthem purchased TNA. GFW titles also began appearing on Impact, with them set to merge with Impact’s belts at Slammiversary on Sunday.
Among other items from the article, it was mentioned that the new GFW is developing an on-demand streaming app for North America to make use of TNA’s video library and that they’re further working on finding their place in India and the United Kingdom.

Next Week: X Division Champion Low Ki defends against Andrew Everett and Trevor Lee in Ultimate X. Plus, James Storm vs. Ethan Carter III.
While we await the debut of GFW Amped and an announcement of new Global Force Wrestling shows, the promotion already has a new titleholder as Sonjay Dutt defeated P.J. Black (the former Justin Gabriel) to become the Nex*Gen champion Friday night, their version of the X Division or cruiserweight champion.
Black had won a tournament for the title on 10/23 in Las Vegas in a four-way final match with TJP, Jigsaw, and Virgil Flynn. On that same night, Nick “Magnus” Aldis beat Bobby Roode for the GFW title while Christina Von Eerie downed Amber Gallows for their women’s title.
A former mainstay in TNA and plenty of indies, the 33-year-old Dutt has been part of the promotion’s roster since May.
The match was part of WrestleCade, a weekend event in Winston-Salem, NC, that is built around the Thanksgiving wrestling tradition that existed for so long in the Greensboro/Winston-Salem metropolitan area. Another show is scheduled for Saturday, headlined by Jeff Jarrett vs. Matt Hardy.
Show started with a promo with Jeff Jarrett, Karen Jarrett and Chael Sonnen where Sonnen made fun of Karen leaving Kurt Angle for Jeff. She slapped him and screamed he wouldn’t be in GFW if not for her husband. This promo went absolutely nowhere and no one believed for a minute that Chael Sonnen couldn’t wipe the ring up with both Jarretts in seconds.
NEX*GEN Championship Finals PJ Black vs. Virgil Flynn vs. Jigsaw vs. TJP. PJ Black wins the Title in the Main Event of the show. It was good for the spotfest it was.

Women’s Championship Final Christina Von Eerie vs. Amber Gallows. Von Eerie wins the title cleanly.
Tag Team Championship semifinal Reno Scum vs. Teaze N Sleaze. Jacob Austin Young substituted for Kenny King. Reno Scum still won.
Tag Team Championship semifinal Bollywood Boyz vs. Whirlwind Gentlemen. Bollywood Boyz won, and the audience didn’t care much.
Global Championship contenders match Brian Myers vs. Kongo Kong (w/Henry Maxwell) vs. Kevin Kross. Kongo Kong won with a Top Rope Splash. Myers and Kross worked their asses off to get Kong over.
Nick Aldis beat Bobby Roode for the GFW Title, then got a beatdown from Chris Morteszky which he got hardway busted open bad from, so bad they stopped the show to replace the canvas bad. Aldis was a bloody mess and they rushed him to the back.
The Bollywood Boyz beat Reno Scum for the GFW Tag Team Belts which went over like a brick.
The Masked Saint beat Joey Ryan. The crowd did not care except for the plants. There was an angle where Jeff Jarrett announced the movie was released to rave reviews (it has not been) and brought Brett Grandstaff out who got a beat down from Young and Ryan that got no heat and he basically no sold seconds later. It was bad on many levels.
A group of very obvious plants were at ringside with posters for “The Masked Saint” and it was very obvious to the point of “Stunt Granny” bad.
This show had a few good moments, but really looked like any indy show and not a show trying to be the #2 company in America, and right now they’re not even remotely close.
