Gabe Kidd match added to Joey Janela’s Spring Break

The latest addition to the Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9 card features NJPW star Gabe Kidd in action.

Kidd will face off against Mance Warner when Spring Break takes place in Las Vegas on Friday, April 18. It’s a rematch of their bloody brawl from GCW/JCW Jersey J-Cup 2025, which lasted over 30 minutes and ended in a no contest when the referee called off the match. There must be a winner this time.

It’s also been announced that Kidd will be competing at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XIII in Vegas, but an opponent for him has not been named yet. Bloodsport is happening on April 17.

The Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms Casino Resort is hosting Game Changer Wrestling’s events during WrestleMania week. Spring Break has a start time of 10 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. Pacific airing live on TrillerTV+.

Seven matches are now official for Spring Break (with three more still to be announced):

  • Sabu’s final match: Joey Janela vs. Sabu
  • The Wagner Family (Dr. Wagner Jr., El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. & Galeno del Mal) vs. Los Desperados (Gringo Loco, Arez & Jack Cartwheel)
  • Minoru Suzuki vs. Matt Tremont
  • Megan Bayne vs. Bozilla
  • Loser Leaves GCW match: Atticus Cogar vs. Fuego Del Sol
  • Zack Sabre Jr. vs. 1 Called Manders

Zack Sabre Jr. match booked for Joey Janela’s Spring Break

Zack Sabre Jr.’s match for Joey Janela’s Spring Break 9 is now official.

Game Changer Wrestling has booked Sabre vs. 1 Called Manders for the April 18 show in Las Vegas. It’s being promoted as Manders’ biggest opportunity yet with him having the chance to go toe-to-toe against one of the best wrestlers in the world.

Manders — a GCW regular and former MLW Tag Team Champion — is on a tour of Europe right now but will be returning in time for this match. He won wXw’s 16 Carat Gold tournament in Germany earlier this month and is coming off a loss to Michael Oku for RevPro that earned him praise from Will Ospreay.

“I would love Manders to remain in the U.K. He brings something so unique to the sport and hopefully one day he would make it over Japan next,” Ospreay tweeted. “The guy has IT.”

Sabre lost New Japan Pro Wrestling’s IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to Hirooki Goto this February and just had his run in the New Japan Cup ended by David Finlay in the semifinals.

In addition to Spring Break, ZSJ will be working Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XIII and Effy’s Big Gay Brunch 10 for GCW during WrestleMania week in Vegas. Sabre vs. Kidd Bandit is set for the latter show. His Bloodsport opponent has not been named yet.

Here is the updated Spring Break card:

Kota Ibushi to make GCW debut at Bloodsport, Spring Break

Kota Ibushi’s return to the ring has been confirmed, albeit for an unexpected promotion.

GCW announced on Tuesday that the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion will compete at both Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport on March 30th and Joey Janela’s Spring Break on March 31st as part of their Collective weekend in Los Angeles.

Dave Meltzer previously reported that the 40-year-old is set to become a free agent at the end of January.

If he doesn’t compete elsewhere before then, it will be Ibushi’s first matches anywhere since the 2021 G1 Climax final for NJPW when he lost to Kazuchika Okada.

In that match, he dislocated his right shoulder that required the match to be stopped which has kept him on the sidelines ever since. He was initially thought to be out for just two months.

In December of 2022, Meltzer reported that Ibushi’s shoulder had been holding up well in doing some “light training” That followed Ibushi saying in July 2022 that his injury was getting worse.

In May of 2022, Ibushi went public with his frustrations with NJPW management. He claimed an official was pushing him to return in December 2021 when he wasn’t ready and that his contract was threatened to be terminated as this official thought he was trying to get out of his deal.

It was reported Ibushi was set to win the 2021 New Japan Cup as part of his return, but he was pulled by the front office due to medical concerns. The company held a press conference shortly after to give their side of the story, issuing apologies for themselves and on behalf of Ibushi, and that Ibushi would remain under contract.

There was some talk at the press conference about Ibushi being under mental duress due to his mother’s attempted suicide which Ibushi took umbrage with, resulting in NJPW needing to further clarify.

In June, NJPW announced they would reduce Ibushi’s pay by 10% for three months, in addition that of two NJPW officials, over the incident.

Chris Dickinson to return from injury at GCW’s Spring Break

Chris Dickinson is returning to action by GCW’s next Spring Break event.

Dickinson appeared at tonight’s The Wrld on GCW pre-show and put over GCW and New York City. He ended his promo by saying he would be back for Spring Break weekend. That is an event usually held by Joey Janela and GCW during WrestleMania weekend, which this year takes place the weekend of April 2 and 3.

The injury that has kept Dickinson out of action took place back on November 14 of last year during NJPW’s Battle in the Valley card in San Jose. Towards the finish of the match, Dickinson went for a frog splash, but upon impact dislocated and fractured his hip. Dickinson had to be stretchered out of the ring after the match.

GCW Owner Brett Lauderdale also cut a promo prior to the start of tonight’s show, describing his background and talking about how tonight was special, as many said that there were many GCW’s before him. He ended the promo saying there’s been nothing like GCW ever before and they are on pay-per-view tonight because of the fans.
