JNPO: Josh Barnett talks Bloodsport X, Baszler, bourbon & burgers

It’s WrestleMania week in Philadelphia and that includes a slew of non-WWE related events like The Lapsed Fan’s Bozos, Biceps & Bullsh*t Brunch that we talked about last week.

This week, we go in a different direction, that being Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport X as part of GCW’s Collective series of events this weekend.

For the first time since 2019 before the first-ever Bloodsport to carry his name, Josh Barnett makes his return to this very podcast to talk about a lot of topics, many of which start with the letter ‘b.’

We delved into this Thursday’s tenth event (available on Triller), why he chose his fight against Johnny (Morrison) Bloodsport, what makes the show different, and some background on the process of securing his protege and current WWE star Shayna Baszler for the event.

Also, will there be other WWE talents there as previously reported? Find out.

We looked ahead to June’s Bloodsport Bushido in Tokyo, Japan. You’ll learn when he first thought about bringing Bloodsport to that country, some of the names already lined up, and much more.

Finally, we explore one of his passion projects — Warbringer bourbon — and how he got so heavily involved. That discussion also branches off into beer, shower burgers, and the new Road House movie. Yes, yes it does.

GCW Welcome to Heartbreak notes: AJ Gray challenges Jon Moxley, Janela attacks X-Pac

GCW’s Welcome to Heartbreak on Saturday night featured multiple angles setting up matches for The Collective events during WrestleMania weekend.

AJ Gray called out Jon Moxley for Spring Break, while the show closing angle saw Joey Janela turn on tag team partner Sean “X-Pac” Waltman.

Gray called for a match with Jon Moxley at Joey Janela’s Spring Break after he defeated ACH on tonight’s show. Gray won the Grab the Brass Ring ladder match at the WRLD on GCW last month which allows him to choose any match he wants at any time.

The show also featured the in-ring return of Waltman, wrestling his first match since April 2019. Following he and Janela’s victory over Matt Cardona and Brian Myers, X-Pac announced it had would be his last match. As he continued to address the crowd, however, Janela superkicked him, turning on his partner.

Cardona also interrupted a Chris Dickinson promo that took place on the show. Dickinson got in Cardona’s face and challenged him to a match at Spring Break.

Elsewhere on the show, The Briscoes called for a rematch with Nick Gage and Matt Tremont. It was noted on commentary that the match will happen at some point during The Collective. Gage and Tremont defeated the Briscoes for the GCW Tag Team Championships at the WRLD on GCW that went less than six minutes due to time constraints.

GCW The Collective returning for WrestleMania weekend in Dallas

GCW’s The Collective will return for 2022 on WrestleMania weekend in Dallas, Texas on March 31, April 1 and April 2, 2022.

The 2022 edition of The Collective will be held at Dallas’s Fair Park. A number of indie promotions are expected to join GCW in running shows at Fair Park. Additionally, GCW promises live wrestling events, merchandise, food trucks, plus the GCW Wrld Fair, a space for vendors, exhibits, games, podcasts, stage shows and more.

GCW debuted The Collective in 2019 in New Jersey during WrestleMania weekend. The 2020 edition was postponed until October of that year following the COVID-19 pandemic. 2021’s Collective returned to WrestleMania weekend and was held in Ybor City, Florida.

Effy’s Big Gay Brunch, Allie Kat’s Real Hot Girl S**t, GCW Planet Death, the GCW Acid Cup, GCW For the Culture, plus Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport were all held during The Collective in 2021. Joey Janela’s Spring Break event is also held during The Collective each year.
