Lita vs. Mickie James announced for WWE Evolution

Another match involving a returning wrestler is set for next month’s Evolution pay-per-view.

WWE announced tonight that Lita will be facing Mickie James at Evolution. The only other matches that have been confirmed for the PPV are Trish Stratus vs. Alexa Bliss and the finals of the Mae Young Classic.

This will be Lita’s second in-ring appearance of 2018. She last wrestled as a surprise entrant in the women’s Royal Rumble match this January. She hasn’t wrestled regularly since 2006, where she lost to James at Survivor Series in what was billed as her retirement match. She did wrestle one match for WWE in 2012 before returning at this year’s Royal Rumble, defeating Heath Slater on the 1,000th episode of Raw.

Evolution will take place at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York on October 28. When the PPV was announced, WWE noted that over 50 wrestlers from the past and present would be taking part in the event.

Alexa Bliss vs. Trish Stratus set for WWE Evolution

After being advertised to the crowd at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV tonight, one of the matches for WWE’s Evolution pay-per-view is now official.

WWE showed a graphic tonight that said Alexa Bliss will be facing Trish Stratus at Evolution, and the company has since confirmed the match. The PPV is taking place at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York on October 28.

Bliss is set to defend the Raw Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam tomorrow.

Stratus returned to the ring for the first time in nearly seven years during the women’s Royal Rumble match this January. Along with Lita, she was confirmed for Evolution when WWE announced the PPV last month. WWE has hyped that over 50 wrestlers from the past and present will participate in the event.

WWE has also noted that Evolution will feature Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and NXT United Kingdom Women’s Championship matches, and the Mae Young Classic finals will be held at the PPV after they were set during two nights of tapings earlier this month.

WWE’s “women’s evolution” took its logical next step last week as the company announced its first all-women’s pay-per-view.

Aptly, the PPV will be called “Evolution.” It will take place at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York on October 28. WWE is hyping that over 50 wrestlers from the past and present will be involved, with Trish Stratus, Lita, and Beth Phoenix already advertised. Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and NXT UK will all be represented, along with this year’s Mae Young Classic finals being held on the show.

WWE continued to walk the line between promotion and condescension when breaking the news of Evolution. It was hyped in advance that Stephanie McMahon would be appearing on Raw to make a “historic announcement.” And with the SmackDown women’s division joining the Raw roster on the stage, Stephanie, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and Vince McMahon opened the show.

July 30, 2018 Wrestling Observer Newsletter: All women PPV WWE Evolution announcement, more

WWE opened the 7/24 Raw show in Cincinnati with the announcement of its first-ever all-women’s PPV show.

The show, scheduled for 10/28 at the Nassau Coliseum, called Evolution, will feature all women under contract to the company who are ready to perform in the ring, including on the NXT and U.K. rosters. It will also include stars from the past, with Lita, Trish Stratus and Beth Phoenix all announced.

Vince McMahon came out, and called out HHH and Stephanie McMahon. HHH put over the current talent, who were on the stage. They had all the Raw roster members there as well as the women from Smackdown who were traveling on tour that weekend and scheduled for the house show in Carbondale, IL, were pulled from the show to appear at Raw. That’s why Nikki Cross was there, because she was traveling with the Smackdown crew this past weekend.

Stephanie McMahon comments on possibility of Women’s tag titles

Going into last night’s announcement from Stephanie McMahon, it was speculated that it would have something to do with WWE introducing Tag Team titles for the women’s division.

They weren’t mentioned during the reveal of WWE’s first all-women’s pay-per-view, but McMahon spoke to Sky Sports about her announcement and was asked if WWE would be adding Women’s Tag Team titles at the PPV.

“Not quite yet but that’s absolutely something we’ve heard loud and clear from our fan base and it’s something we’re keen on implementing as soon as we are able to,” McMahon said.

The women’s PPV will be called “Evolution” and will be held at the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, New York on October 28. Titles from all of WWE’s brands will be on the line, the Mae Young Classic finals will take place, and WWE is hyping that over 50 wrestlers from the past and present will take part in the show.

WWE’s first women’s-only PPV announced for October

WWE officially announced tonight that their first-ever pay-per-view event to only feature female talent, Evolution, is set to take place this fall.

Stephanie McMahon, along with Triple H and Vince McMahon, made the announcement tonight at the start of Monday Night Raw in front of both rosters. After giving a speech that praised the progress made by female wrestlers over the last several years, McMahon made the announcement. Women from all of WWE’s brands, including Raw, SmackDown, NXT and NXT UK will be part of the show. There will be title matches from each of those brands.

An ESPN article that came out shortly after the announcement said that women from the past, specifically Trish Stratus and Lita, would be part of the event. The finals of the second Mae Young Classic, which is set to tape next month, will also be held at Evolution.

The show will take place at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York on October 28.
