Dave Lagana resigns from NWA due to sexual assault allegation

Dave Lagana is no longer with the NWA after being accused of sexual assault.

“Pursuant to allegations made by pro wrestler Liz Savage on her Twitter account, 6/18/2020, NWA VP David Lagana has resigned his position, effective immediately. As well all production of NWA content is temporarily halted, pending a restructuring of executive management positions,” the NWA announced today.

As part of the #SpeakingOut movement, Savage posted her allegation against Lagana yesterday. She wrote that she moved to Los Angeles in 2010 and was staying with Lagana and sharing a bed with him, but nothing was romantic or sexual. Savage alleged that, about two months into her stay, she “woke up in the middle of the night and [Lagana] had his hand down the front of my pants underneathmy underwear. He was also touching himself. I was scared. I froze for a monent and I pretended I was asleep. Then I tossed hard and pulled away from him, hoping he would leave me alone. He did. Then he kicked me out that week with less than a week notice.”

Lagana has yet to comment publicly on the allegation.

The NWA hasn’t run events in recent months due to the coronavirus pandemic but has been producing content for their YouTube channel, including their Carnyland series that debuted in May.

NWA apologizes for Jim Cornette comment, re-releases Power episode

NWA vice president David Lagana issued both an apology and an updated version of NWA Power Tuesday night after an offensive comment made by Jim Cornette on commentary.

During a non-title match between NWA World Champion Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch, Cornette said of Murdoch that he was the only man he has ever known that “could strap a bucket of fried chicken on his back and drive a motor scooter across Ethiopia.”

Lagana issued a brief statement on Twitter that read, “On tonight’s episode of NWA Powerr airing on November 19th 2019, one of our talents made comments which some viewers found offensive. We deeply regret the error and apologize. We have temporarily taken the program down while we correct this error.”

The NWA re-uploaded a new version of their seventh episode without the comment shortly thereafter. As of this writing, Cornette has not addressed any of this on social media.

This isn’t the first time Cornette, who trended on Twitter following news of the comment, has used that reference as noted by WrestleCrap’s Art O’Donnell.

David Lagana parting ways with TNA Wrestling

TNA head writer David Lagana announced today that he has left the company.

Lagana, who had worked for years with WWE and then with ROH, before going to TNA, wrote that, “Today I made the decision to leave TNA Impact Wrestling. A decision I do not make lightly but one I made to create a future that I control. In 2017, you need to look forward to 2020 and beyond. My focus now is on personal branding, technology and the wild west of storytelling available to all content creators today.”

Lagana started with TNA in 2011 after being hired from ROH.

In a farewell article he noted learning from Vince McMahon, Paul Heyman, Dusty Rhodes, Pat Patterson, Gerry Brisco, Shawn Michaels, Paul Levesque, Michael Hayes, Brian Gewirtz, Adam Pearce, Hunter Johnston, Matt Conway, Billy Corgan, Vince Russo, Eric Bischoff, Bruce Prichard, Jeff Jarrett, and Dutch Mantel.

It is very notable he did not include John Gaburick or Dixie Carter on that list.

Lagana was expected to be a more powerful player in the new TNA under Corgan, but he was expected to be in a tenuous position when Corgan didn’t get control of the company.
