Next three entrants announced for NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 33

The next three entrants in this year’s Best of the Super Junior tournament have been announced.

It was confirmed on Sunday that YOH and Master Wato would be returning this year. In addition, CMLL’s Valiente Jr. will be making his tournament debut, which starts on May 14 and concludes on June 7 in Ota.

This will be Master Wato’s sixth entry, missing last year’s tournament due to injury. He recently challenged current IWGP Junior Champion DOUKI during NJPW’s Anniversary show earlier this month, but came up short after frequent interference from the House of Torture.

YOH meanwhile made it to the finals of last year’s BOSJ, but lost out to Kosei Fujita. Valiente Jr. made his debut for NJPW earlier this year, taking part of the annual Fantasticamania tour in Japan featuring CMLL talent.

Those already announced for the tournament include last year’s winner Fujita, DDT’s Daisuke Sasaki, DOUKI, and El Desperado.

NJPW Best of the Super Juniors 33 confirmed participants:

  • Kosei Fujita
  • DOUKI
  • El Desperado
  • Yoshinobu Kanemaru
  • SHO
  • Daisuke Sasaki
  • YOH
  • Master Wato
  • Valiente Jr.

NJPW grants CMLL wrestler permission to use Black Tiger gimmick

CMLL wrestler Magnus is officially adopting a classic NJPW gimmick.

On this week’s edition of CMLL Informa, it was revealed that Magnus will now be going by the name “Black Tiger.” He is the ninth wrestler to don the mask, which was originally introduced in the 1980s as a rival to Tiger Mask. The character has been portrayed by the likes of Mark Rocco, Eddie Guerrero, and Rocky Romero.

NJPW chairman Naoki Sugabayashi appeared on Informa and gave the character change his blessing. This comes after Magnus wore the Black Tiger mask during this year’s NJPW & CMLL Fantasticamania tour. The final night of the tour included a singles match where Tiger Mask defeated Magnus.

Along with competing in CMLL, Magnus has made appearances for AEW/ROH and MLW. He is a former MLW Tag Team Champion and recently wrestled at MLW’s TV taping in Atlanta on March 14.

The babyface Tiger Mask character in NJPW is currently played by Yoshihiro Yamazaki, who will be retiring from the ring this July. He is the fourth iteration of Tiger Mask, following Satoru Sayama, Mitsuharu Misawa, and Koji Kanemoto.

RevPro x CMLL FantasticaMania UK event announced for October

CMLL is heading to the UK in October.

RevPro announced on Saturday during their High Stakes event that they will collaborate with CMLL for a FantasticaMania UK event that will take place on October 17 in Wolverhampton at The Hangar.

The two promotions held a two-day event last October that featured the likes of Xelhua, Dinfunto, Fuego, Titan, Hechicero, Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero, and Mascara Dorada. The first night had Sha Samuels defeat Guerrero, while the second night saw Mistico successfully retain the World Light Heavyweight title against Michael Oku.

On Saturday, RevPro held their High Stakes event with the most high-profile match featuring Mercedes Mone losing two more titles. Alexxis Falcon defeated Mone in a match for the Bodyslam Scandinavian Women’s title and the Discovery Wrestling Women’s title. Mone recently hinted that she may be returning to AEW soon after going to Poland and Winnipeg, with the latter show taking place on March 31 for Winnipeg Pro Wrestling.

RevPro additionally announced that they would be heading back to The Hangar for an event on July 25.

CMLL wrestler out of action with broken foot

CMLL wrestler Titan has broken his right foot.

Titan posted to social media on Saturday with photos of his foot in what appears to be a cast. In the caption, he wrote (translated):

Hola friends…!!! I’ve returned to Mexico and played a few matches, but yesterday I broke my right foot. I hope everyone is safe!

He did not reveal how he suffered the injury.

Titan wrestled three times last weekend between CMLL and MLW. On Friday, March 13, at Arena Mexico, he teamed with Atlantis Jr. and Templario in a win over Angel de Oro and Los Depredadores. He then wrestled Magnus on Saturday, March 14 at Center Stage in Atlanta for MLW before heading back to Mexico City to team with Esfinge and Atlantis Jr. in a loss to Angel de Oro, Barbaro Cavernario, and Volador Jr. on Sunday.

He won last year’s CMLL Universal Championship tournament and is the current CMLL World Welterweight Champion.

Hechicero defeats Claudio Castagnoli for CMLL Heavyweight title

In a battle between two AEW stars, Hechicero defeated Claudio Castagnoli to win the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship at Arena Mexico on Friday night.

Hechicero kicked out of a neutralizer was able to avoid Castagnoli’s trademark low blow and counter with his own trademark, the headscissors slam. He went to put Castagnoli in something resembling a Rings of Saturn. Castagnoli still refused to submit until Hechicero pressed his boot into the side of the champion’s face, which was enough to finish off the former ROH World Champion.

It’s the second reign for Hechicero as CMLL World Heavyweight Champion. He won the title from Ultimo Guerrero in October of 2018, then lost it to Gran Guerrero in November of 2022. Gran Guerrero would hold the belt for over three years before losing it to Castagnoli last November.

Castagnoli successfully defended the title six times over his reign, in both CMLL and AEW. Some of his more notable challengers include Roderick Strong, Josh Alexander, and Ultimo Guerrero (twice).

The two have also been feuding in AEW, with Hechicero fighting for the Don Callis Family and Castagnoli representing the Death Riders. Most recently, Castagnoli teamed with Jon Moxley to defeat Hechicero & Konosuke Takeshita on the March 11 episode of Dynamite.

El Satanico victorious in retirement match

El Satanico, one of the greatest luchadors of the last half-century, has left the sport a winner. He was victorious in his retirement match tonight, winning a three-way against Blue Panther and Atlantis.

Satanico faced off against two of his greatest rivals—Blue Panther and Atlantis—in a three-way in Arena Mexico. He pinned Panther with an elaborate cradle to win the match.

Satanico, age 76, made his pro debut in 1973. He won different championships a combined 23 times, including a reign as CMLL World Middleweight Champion that lasted over four and a half years, and three separate wins for the CMLL World Trios Championship (twice with MS-1 & Pirata Morgan as Los Infernales in the early 1990s, then once with Emilio Charles Jr. & Rey Bucanero in 1997). His is also a five-time NWA World Middleweight Champion.

In his career, he wrestled 48 Luchas de Apuestas matches with his hair or mask on the line, going 27 and 20 with one draw. The last of those came in 2014, a loss to El Dandy.

He is also one of pro wrestling’s great trainers. Andrade el Idolo, Mascara Dorada, Psycho Clown, and Beast Mortos are just some of the stars he has helped develop.

Friday Update

WWE SmackDown 3/20/26 graphic (Image credit: via WWE)

— Garrett Gonzales and I have our week in review show and there is a ton of news to cover this past week, from the Revolution fallout, to the 2023 Tony Khan bid on WWE, New Japan Cup, WrestleMania updates and a giant weekend of major shows. Bryan and I will be back Sunday night covering the weekend shows

— So here’s a very Nielsen story. It came out with the new figures from the 1/26 changes in Nielsen that television’s gains and streaming losses were part of updated research. The new data was going to be released as the biggest swing of television vs. streaming in history in the direction of television according to reports. Now the data will not be released as such. Michael Mulvihill on X said that “the streamers whined and Nielsen caved. Under pressure following this WSJ (Wall Street Journal) story Nielsen has elected to put on these improvements until the fall. Meanwhile, the hard-earned credibility of the important Gauge report is shot until Nielsen moves to the new method as promised.”

— AEW Dynamite on Wednesday did 730,000 viewers and a 0.13 in 18-49, the most viewers for an AEW television show since the last two sets of changes were put in place. In a weird stat, over 50 viewers were the most since late 2022 or early 2023, even more significant because those years did not include streaming on MAX while these numbers don’t include the HBO MAX numbers.

— There is an article in the issue covering the PPV numbers but we don’t have an estimate yet regarding how big the show did. Apparently word of mouth was such that replay buys are very high.

— Carlos Silva announced TNA Slammiversary would return this summer at the UBS Arena on Long Island.

— SmackDown tonight in Raleigh, NC has Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu, Tama Tonga & Tonga Loa vs. Damien Priest & R-Truth for the tag titles, Nia Jax & Lash Legend vs. Bella Twins for the women’s tag titles, Motor City Machine Guns vs. Fraxiom plus Randy Orton appears and Kit Wilson and Jelly Roll will continue their angle. There were 12,601 tickets out as of last look so the show will be close to sold out if not sold out.

— All In tickets were put on sale today to the public as were G-1 Climax tickets for 7/11 at the NOW Arena in Chicago. We don’t have any update on sales at this time past that G-1 tickets were not selling well at all. There are lots of tickets left for Wembley Stadium but there could be lots of tickets left and it would still be a good first day.

— Callum Newman beat Shota Umino and Yuya Uemura beat Oleg Boltin in today’s New Japan Cup semifinals. I loved Uemura vs. Boltin. If you like a wrestling match where they actually wrestle and struggle and come off legit, this is your match. Not flashy, just high-level pro technical style. Newman vs. Umino went 30:03 and was very good after the 22:00 mark but the period building to that was just okay. The finals are tonight from Nagaoka starting at 1 a.m. Eastern and 10 p.m. Pacific time:
• Masatora Yasuda vs. Taisei Nakahara
• Konosuke Takeshita defends the TV title against a surprise wrestler
• Hirooki Goto & Yoshi-Hashi & Tatsuya Matsumoto vs. Taichi & El Desperado & Satoshi Kojima
• Yoh & Master Wato & Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Douki & Sho & Yoshinobu Kanemaru
• Shota Umino & Tomoaki Honma vs. Great O’Khan & Henare
• Oleg Boltin & Aaron Wolf & Toru Yano vs. Ren Narita & Don Fale & Dick Togo
• Yota Tsuji & Yuto-Ice & Oskar & Daiki Nagai vs. Zack Sabre Jr. & Ryohei Oiwa & Hartley Jackson & Kosei Fujita
• Uemura vs. Newman for the New Japan Cup

— Ted DiBiase Jr. was found not guilty today of all charges as part of his trial of misappropriations of Mississippi welfare funds. DiBiase was facing 13 counts related to conspiracy, wire fraud, theft and money laundering.

— CMLL has one of its biggest events of the year tonight, El Homenaje a Dos Leyendas at Arena Mexico. The show will honor Salvador Lutteroth, who founded the company in 1934, and El Satanico, an all-time great, who retires tonight after almost 53 years as an active name pro wrestler. It is available on the CMLL YouTube page as part of the subscription, and is also a Triller PPV, starting at 9:30 p.m. Eastern tonight:
• Dark Silueta & Lluvia & Valkiria & Zeuxis vs. Catalina & Jarochita & Persephone & Skadi
• Ultimo Guerrero vs. Rey Bucanero vs. Toscano vs. Averno vs. Mephisto vs. Euforia in the Copa Infernal
• El Satanico vs. Atlantis vs. Blue Panther in Satanico’s retirement match
• Marcela vs. Magnifica vs. Princesa Sugehit (loser loses their hair)
• Hombre Bala Jr. vs. Max Star vs. Calavera Jr. I vs. Calavera Jr. II vs. Virus vs. Cancerbero vs. Polvora vs. Coyote (loser loses their hair or mask)
• Mistico & Mascara Dorada & Neon vs. Jon Moxley & Daniel Garcia & Wheeler Yuta for the CMLL trios titles
• Claudio Castagnoli vs. Hechicero for the CMLL heavyweight title

— Arena Coliseo goes for its 13th sellout in a row tomorrow night with Atlantis Jr. & Flip Gordon & Titan vs. Averno & Cavernario & Volador Jr. in the main event. Sunday’s Arena Mexico has Titan & Mascara Dorada vs. Cavernario & Difunto on top, which is likely to be great, plus Angel de Oro vs. Esfinge.

— AAA on YouTube at 9 p.m. Eastern tomorrow night has Rey Fenix & Mr. Iguana & Lola Vice vs. Money Machine & La Hiedra, Psycho Clown & Pagano vs. War Raiders for the AAA tag titles

— UFC runs tomorrow at 1 p.m. Eastern on Paramount+ from the O2 Arena in London:

• Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady (156) vs. Shem Rock (156)
• Louis Sutherland (264) vs. Brando Pericic (264)
• Mantas Kondratavicius (185) vs. Antonio Trocoli (185)
• Mario Pinto (257) vs. Felipe Franco (227)
• Nathaniel Wood (146) vs. Lerone Murphy (146)
• Mason Jones (156) vs. Axel Sola (156)
• Danny Silva (145) vs. Kurtis Campbell (145)
• Roman Dolidze (186) vs. Christian Leroy Duncan (186)

• Michael Venom Page (171) vs. Sam Patterson (170)
• Luke Riley (146) vs. Michael Aswell (145)
• Movsar Evloev (146) vs. Lerone Murphy (145)

— NCAA tournament in Cleveland tonight has Penn State having eight wrestlers in the semifinals, which I believe is an all-time record. The show airs on ESPN2 tonight:

Claudio Castagnoli officially under CMLL & AEW dual contract

Claudio Castagnoli is officially under a dual contract with both AEW and CMLL, announced by CMLL on Wednesday.

In a press release and later discussed on CMLL Informa (seen below), CMLL revealed the news, stating that “This international collaboration scheme strengthens the ties between both promotions and opens up new competitive opportunities for the talent involved.”

Castagnoli won the CMLL Heavyweight title more than 100 days ago with six successful title defenses to his credit and another coming up this Friday against Hechicero in Arena Mexico.

He made his CMLL debut back in March 2024 as part of the then-Blackpool Combat Club. Since then, he’s returned to Mexico nine times while defending the title twice on AEW Collision.

Castagnoli becomes the latest dual signee between the two companies that includes Mistico, Persephone and Mascara Dorada. Mistico’s signing was revealed during this past Sunday’s Revolution after he, Kevin Knight and Mike Bailey won the AEW Trios titles to go with his CMLL Trios title belt (alongside Dorada and Neon).

Tony Khan comments on AEW signing Mistico: ‘One of my all-time heroes’

Tony Khan is thrilled to have one of his favorite wrestlers of all time under contract with AEW.

It was announced during AEW Revolution last night that Mistico is officially All Elite. He is now dual-contracted to CMLL and AEW and will be working for both promotions. Along with the announcement, Mistico won his first AEW gold at Revolution, winning the Trios titles with Kevin Knight & “Speedball” Mike Bailey.

At the post-show press conference, Khan discussed the new signing and addressed what Mistico’s schedule will look like.

“I think we will be splitting time,” Khan said. “Obviously, CMLL is an amazing partnership for AEW. And what a sign of trust between the two promotions to have one of the greatest wrestlers of all time now as a dual-signee, joining us in AEW as a champion. Somebody that I have admired for decades, somebody who is a personal hero of mine in the wrestling business. To be able to sit here with Mistico, next to Kevin and Mike, to be able to sit here with JetSpeed and say that they are world champions along with Mistico, who, again, to reiterate, one of my all-time heroes in this business. Somebody who’s accomplished so much. And it’s an honor to be able to sit on the stage with him and say that he’s part of AEW and now a world champion here. It’s so cool.”

Khan noted that he’ll be working with CMLL boss Salvador Lutteroth Lomeli to figure out Mistico’s schedule.

“We’ll be working with Salvador. Now that he’s a champion in AEW, I’ll work with Salvador very closely to make sure we see Mistico in both CMLL and AEW as much as possible,” Khan said.

Hechicero, Persephone, and Mascara Dorada are among the other CMLL stars under similar dual-contracts with both promotions.

Through a translator, Mistico said he’s happy to be All Elite and proud to be a Trios champion. He also sent out a tweet thanking Khan for the opportunity.

Mistico won Wrestler of the Year in the 2025 Wrestling Observer Newsletter Awards. He’s now a two-time winner, having won the award in 2006 as well. He was the biggest star in CMLL in 2025 and helped lead the promotion to a very successful year in business.

Earlier in his career, Mistico spent time in the United States working for WWE as Sin Cara. He’s also competed for MLW recently and is a former MLW Middleweight Champion.

Mistico officially under AEW contract

Moments after winning his first AEW title, Mistico was officially announced to be under AEW contract during Sunday’s AEW Revolution.

Mistico, Kevin Knight and “Speedball” Mike Bailey won the AEW World Trios titles during Sunday’s Revolution pay-per-view, defeating Mark Davis, Kyle Fletcher and Kazuchika Okada.

As the three were celebrating in the ring, the #AllElite graphic was featured on the video screen, causing Mistico to get emotional.

AEW head Tony Khan has said in the past that Mistico is one of his favorite wrestlers of all time.

The 43-year-old has been a fixture in CMLL, an AEW partner, for years, winning the Wrestling Observer Wrestler of the Year award for 2025. He is currently the company’s Light Heavyweight Champion and Trios Champion alongside Neon and Mascara Dorada, the latter of which is also under AEW contract.

Mistico made his AEW debut in October 2023, competing in 16 matches including Sunday’s. He’s also wrestled six times for the Khan-owned Ring of Honor.

Hechicero issues challenge for Claudio Castagnoli’s CMLL Heavyweight title

The Don Callis Family and Death Riders rivalry continued on Friday at Arena Mexico.

Claudio Castagnoli successfully defended his CMLL World Heavyweight title against former champion Ultimo Guerrero in the main event.

Following the match, Hechicero, who is under a dual contract with AEW and CMLL, challenged Castagnoli for a title match on next week’s Arena Mexico show on March 20. Castagnoli accepted before attacking Hechicero, leading to a brawl between the two in the ring.

Castagnoli’s win over Guerrero on Friday was his sixth successful defense of the belt, which he won from Gran Guerrero on the November 28, 2025 show at Arena Mexico.

The full results from last night’s Arena Mexico show are below.

CMLL Viernes Espectacular results from March 13, 2026 at Arena Mexico:

  • Shockercito defeated Full Metal in a Lightning match
  • Magia Blanca, Rey Pegasus & Tornado defeated Espanto Jr., Gallero & Raider (La Ola Negra) 2-1
  • La Magnifica, La Jarochita, Lluvia & Tessa Blanchard defeated Keyra, Olympia, Persephone & Zeuxis 2-1
  • Esfinge, Flip Gordon & Xelhua defeated Barbaro Cavernario, Gran Guerrero & Yutani 2-1
  • Atlantis Jr., Templario & Titan defeated Angel de Oro, Vegas & Volador Jr. 2-1
  • Claudio Castagnoli defeated Ultimo Guerrero to retain the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship

AEW faction to challenge for CMLL World Trios titles

AEW faction The Death Riders have been announced to challenge for the CMLL World Trios Championship.

Next week, on March 20, 2026, at Arena Mexico, Death Riders, represented by Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Daniel Garcia, will take on El Sky Team (Mistico, Mascara Dorada, and Neon) for their CMLL World Trios titles.

CMLL announced the match via a social media update, in which Garcia and Yuta challenged the reigning champions to a title match.

“Sky fly team, we are coming for those CMLL World Trios championships because CMLL gold was pretty good around our waists, you know, just ask Claudio [Castagnoli]. I have lost my hair, I’ve lost my dignity, and it doesn’t matter who’s stepping in front of me, I’m taking my flesh,” Yuta said.

Moxley added that while the Death Riders respect Lucha Libre and CMLL’s heritage and legacy, they plan to take and burn it. While Mercedes Mone recently lost her title, the Death Riders look forward to bringing new titles to AEW.

CMLL March 20, 2026 lineup

  • Death Riders (Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta, and Daniel Garcia) vs. EL SKY TEAM (Mistico, Mascara Dorada, and Neon) for the CMLL World Trios titles
  • Atlantis vs. Blue Panther vs. Satanico in Satanico’s retirement match
  • La Jarochita, Reyna Isis, Persephone, La Catalina vs. Lluvia, Zeuxis, Dark Silueta, Valkyria
