WWE Clash of Champions live results: Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins

Preview by Joseph Currier

Raw presents its first brand-exclusive pay-per-view since the WWE Draft on Sunday night as Clash of Champions hails from Indianapolis, IN.

We’re looking for your thoughts on these three shows, New Japan Destruiction in Hiroshima, Destruction in Kobe and this show with thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

In the show’s main event, Kevin Owens will defend his WWE Universal Championship for the first time since winning the the title on Raw a few weeks ago. Owens will defend against Seth Rollins, who he pinned to win the title after Triple H returned and turned on Rollins.

Every other Raw title will also be on the line as Brian Kendrick challenges TJ Perkins for the Cruiserweight Championship, Charlotte defends her Women’s Championship against Sasha Banks and Bayley in a triple threat match, Rusev defends his U.S. title against Roman Reigns, and The New Day put their tag titles on the line against Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows.

The card for the show is:

  • WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens defending against Seth Rollins
  • Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte defending against Sasha Banks and Bayley in a triple threat match
  • United States Champion Rusev defending against Roman Reigns
  • WWE Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins defending against Brian Kendrick
  • Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day defending against Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows
  • Cesaro vs. Sheamus in the final match of their best-of-seven series
  • Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho
  • Nia Jax vs. Alicia Fox on the Clash of Champions kickoff show

By Dave Meltzer

NIA JAX VS. ALICIA FOX

Short match with Jax mostly ragdolling her.  Fox did get two near falls including with a scissors kick.  Jax came back and ran her over, a running hip attack that missed but was sold like it hit and a Samoan drop for the pin. Weak match.

NEW DAY VS. LUKE GALLOWS & KARL ANDERSON FOR TAG TITLES

The New Day did a monologue about how Gallows & Anderson wear tube sox with their flip flops and fart in crowded elevators.  They said Steiners and  Dudleys are the only teams to have held both the IWGP and WWE tag titles.

Short match, fast paced though.  Kingston did a dive on Gallows.  Xavier Woods hit Anderson with the trombone and then E & Kingston did the double-team big ending on Anderson for the pin.  They pushed this as 400 days as tg team champions.  E had had used the big ending on Anderson after Kingston did trouble in paradise on him, but Gallows pulled E out of the ring for the save earlier.

T.J. PERKINS VS. BRIAN KENDRICK FOR THE CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE

They did a lot of cool things and missed a few spots.  Perkins retained via submission.  Kendrick went for the bully choke but Perkins escaped, used a kick to the head and a kneebar for the submission.  After the match, the two hugged but Kendrick then head-butted Perkins to turn himself heel and keep the program going.  The crowd was decently into it, not really the match but they did the dueling chants.  It was far from the spectacular cruiserweight you’d want to make a statement, but it was a good match.

They did a video game commercial using the old Petula Clark song “Downtown.”  Commercial was really good, and there was an appearance of Alberto in there.

Cesaro was in a white suit.  He said he was going to prove he’s the most physically dominant and have the biggest comeback in sports entertainment history.

SHEAMUS VS. CESARO

The two had an excellent match which ended when they were on the floor and Cesaro threw Sheamus into the post and then clotheslined him over the barricade into the ringside area.  then both were selling injuries and the match ended with the referee ruling neither man couild continue.  Sheamus had kicked out of the neutrlizer and Cesaro had kicked out of the Brogue kick.  There were a lot of big spots and they did far more high flying than the cruiswerweights.  At one point Cesaro did a tope but had a bad trajectory and landed on the side of his head.  He seemed to come close to an injury.  Everyone acted concerned but they worked several more minutes of big moves before their finish.

Charlotte and Bayley were backstage.  Charlotte said you got in this match because of a dunce of a referee and an accidental pin.  Charlotte said you’re not going to win.  Bayley said I beat you before and I can beat you agian.  Charlotte told her that she can’t even beat Sasha.

CHRIS JERICHO VS. SAMI ZAYN

Another excellent match.  Zayn kept going for the Helluva kick but never got it.  After Zayn got a near fall with the blue thunder bomb, Jericho used the codebreaker for the clean pin.  Just a great well-built match and the one spot that wasn’t smooth, when Zayn did the dive from the floor through the ropes into and out of the ring into a DDT on the floor, which looked clumsy, Corey Graves did a great job of covering for by saying Jericho went to block the move.

Mick Foley & Stephanie McMahon are backstage with Kevin Owens.  Foley said he was proud of Owens.  Owens started acting sarcastic to  Foley.  Owens said he’s going to show why HHH picked him over Seth Rollins and why they should have picked him and not Seth Rollins as the first draft pick.  He said Seth Rollins is no longer the man, he’s the mistake, and then told  Foley, he’s your mistake.  Foley said all the grseat ones have a chip on their shoulder

CHARLOTTE VS. SASHA BANKS VS. BAYLEY FOR WOMEN’S TITLE

Another good match.  It was the typical three-way with everyone using their finishing move with the third person making the save.  The show was built around Charlotte, who retained her title using a high kick to Bayley, knocking her into Sasha Banks which knocked Banks off the apron.  Charlotte used another high kick on Bayley for the pin.  Dana Brooke saved Banks once when she was the in bank statement.  Banks used the back stabber and bank statement several times.  Once Charlotte did a moonsault on both and went to pin Banks but Bayley saved.

RUSEV VS. ROMAN REIGNS FOR U.S. TITLE

Good match ending with Reigns winning the title clean with a spear out of nowhere.  Reigns had powerd out of the Accolade.  Earlier Reigns hit the spear but Lana pulled the ref out of the ring and he threw Lana out.  Rusev did a great job here, a solid physical match but not the level of the Jericho or the Cesaro match.  So the idea looks to be to use the U.S. title to keep Reigns out of the Universal title situation for a while.  The crowd booed Reigns at times, like when he made comebacks, but there were an early loud dueling chant like with John Cena.

Mick & Stephanie told Rollins how proud they were of him.  Rollins told Stephanie everything that comes out of her mouth is a bold faced lie and told her to tell her husband he bet against the wrong guy.  They are clearly building Rollins vs. HHH that they wanted to do before Rollins was hurt last year.

KEVIN OWENS VS. SETH ROLLINS FOR THE UNIVERSAL TITLE

Good match, never reached the heat level of some of the other matches.  Owens retained due to inteference of Chris Jericho and hitting a power bomb after a ref bump when Stephanie McMahon sent out a second ref.  So the idea is the second ref was sent by Stephanie but it wasn’t overt in the sense it wasn’t as if she was blatantly favoring Owens.  But she didn’t send the second ref out when Rollins had hit a pedigree and Owens was down for 20 seconds.  Among the match highlights were Owens missing a senton and going through the Spanish table.  Rollins kicked out of a package power bomb.  Rollins hit his first pedigree and Jericho put Owens foot on the ropes to stop the count.  Then we had the ref bump, leading to the Rollins second pedigree but no ref to count.  Jericho then blatantly attacked, but Rollins backdropped Jericho over the top and hit a tope on Jericho and another on Owens on the other side of he ring.  Remember that Jericho was originally to be in a three-way main event at Hell in a Cell with Owens and Finn Balor, and Rollins has been subbing for Balor.

Alicia Fox vs. Nia Jax

Bryan Rose: Jax is tall and new, so I don’t think Foxxy is winning here.

Winner: Nia Jax

James Cox: There’s no way they’re beating Jax yet and Fox is certainly not the first one to do it.

    Winner: Nia Jax

Brian Hoops: This is actually one of their better booked feuds as they kept the story simple.

    Winner: Nia Jax

PeachMachine: Foxy’s getting her revenge. Unleash the Cra-zay, bay bay!

Winner: The nutty Alicia Fox

Jeremy Peeples: Nia wins via destruction to continue a feud that peaked with a box hitting her face.

Winner: Nia Jax (who is unlike most girls, I hear)

Ryan Frederick:  Jax is being pushed. Fox is not. It’s pretty simple: they aren’t building Nia for her to lose to Alicia.

    Winner: Nia Jax

Steve Khan: Nia Jax.

    Winner: Nia Jax.

Gramps Fontaine: I’m going with Fox after Nia gets DQ’d for kicking too much ass.

    Winner: Alicia Fox

Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho

Bryan Rose: This should be pretty good. Jericho’s heel work is strong, and when given a chance, Zayn is one of the few faces that really connect with the crowd. This could be the best match of the night. Something tells me this feud will last longer than this PPV though, so Jericho gets a sneaky win.

    Winner: Chris Jericho

James Cox: Looking forward to this. Jericho has probably wanted to work with Zayn and I bet this runs for the next few months. Booking sense says the heel wins the first match.

    Winner: Chris Jericho

Brian Hoops: Jericho is great at playing heel and a loss here doesn’t hurt him. Zayn needs a win bad.

    Winner: Zayn

PeachMachine: Sam and Chris are both from Canada, which will legalize weed in 2017.

    Winner: Both

Jeremy Peeples: Jericho should lose this because he’s the veteran, and a win gives Sami another reason to face Owens again.

    Winner: Sami Zayn

Ryan Frederick: I think they’ll have a good match. Jericho can always lose because it’s Jericho and he’s been a great heel. Zayn needs the win more and I think they can move this feud into a program with Kevin Owens, eventually. I don’t think this will be it for them.

    Winner: Sami Zayn

Steve Khan: This could go either way even if the feud continues. My gut says Jericho through nefarious means.

    Winner: Chris Jericho

Gramps Fontaine: Sami Zayn all the way. Should be one of the best matches on the show.

    Winner: Sami Zayn

WWE Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick

Bryan Rose: This should be good if given time. Kendrick looked great in the CWC and of course, Perkins shined bright as well. I don’t see Kendrick winning as this should be a highlight reel for Perkins to shine as Cruiserweight champion.

    Winner: TJ Perkins

James Cox: The jury’s still out on how they will promote this division and how seriously they will take it. Really glad Kendrick has been signed after his performances on the CWC, but its too early to change the belt.

    Winner: TJ Perkins

Brian Hoops: Kendrick is a good opponent for Perkins and the match should be excellent. It would be disastrous for the new champion to get pinned by someone who long time fans may remember as a job guy.

    Winner: Perkins

PeachMachine: This match should get 20 minutes. Instead it will get 2.

Winner: THE Bryan Kendrick.

Jeremy Peeples: They’ve bungled the cruiserweights so far, but if they can get things right on the PPV, they can rebound. Kendrick is a good name for a first title defense even if the story they’re telling with him doesn’t fit him actually getting a shot. TJP should still win this one.

    Winner: TJ Perkins

Ryan Frederick: I hope they give them time as it’s the only way the division is going to get over. They need it to get over, and it would be a shame if it didn’t. Give these two time and they can have a great match. I like the redemption story for Kendrick, and he’s the perfect first opponent for Perkins. It’s too early to change the title.

    Winner: TJ Perkins

Steve Khan: There’s no way Perkins should lose on his first night, especially after that tournament.

    Winner: TJ Perkins

Gramps Fontaine: Obviously Perkins isn’t losing the title in his first defence. Hopefully they have a long, competitive match that doesn’t ruin Kendrick cause there’s still something to do with him down the road.

    Winner: TJ Perkins

WWE United States Champion Rusev vs. Roman Reigns

Bryan Rose: Reigns should win this, right? I don’t see him getting the actual title, though. So lets say a DQ win, but a decisive one that finishes off the feud.

    Winner: Roman Reigns

James Cox: Reigns wins to a shower of boos.

    Winner: Roman Reigns

Brian Hoops: The plan to rehab Reigns seems to be to get him cheered against the evil Russian menace. Good plan, but not sure it will work.

    Winner: Reigns

PeachMachine: I predict some angle with Rusev not standing for the National Anthem.

Winner: THE Guy

Jeremy Peeples: It’s the Bulgarian Brute versus The Big Dog and he’s hungry for revenge! You’d think he can snack on all the boos, but sadly, they’re a bit high in sodium. This feud has been built up reasonably well overall, but the lack of focus on it over the past month hurts. Roman should probably win this since he beat the top champion on the free show…before getting a shot at the secondary title…as you do.

Winner: The Big Dog Roman Reigns

Ryan Frederick: I’m up-and-down on whether they should give the US title to Reigns. Obviously the direction is him with the Universal Title, and they can keep the feud fresh with a title change. Either way, Roman wins.

    Winner: Roman Reigns

Steve Khan: I can’t imagine Reigns holding the US title belt, and it’s kind of funny that Rollins and Ambrose are both in higher profile matches. I’ll go with Reigns technically getting the win, although I’m not sure he’ll win the title.

    Winner: Roman Reigns

Gramps Fontaine: It’s time for Roman to win the belt and hold it for awhile. He’ll probably defend against Rusev through Survivor Series and he could even keep it through Mania.

    Winner: Roman Reigns

WWE Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley

Bryan Rose: I would say this is right for Sasha to regain the title, but for some reason, it seems they are dead set on doing an eventual Charlotte/Dana split for a match at Wrestlemania. Charlotte retains and will probably hold the title for the rest of the year.

    Winner: Charlotte

James Cox: If this wasn’t a three-way, I’d say they’d do a title switch, but Charlotte retains here.

    Winner: Charlotte

Brian Hoops: The smart long term plan is for Bayley to chase the title, overcoming odds and playing the babyface role. She could chase either Bayley or Charlotte and has had good matches with both.

    Winner: Banks

PeachMachine: Banks really played these last few months pretty poorly. Thus, she’s going over.

Winner: THE Banker

Jeremy Peeples: Bayley has been just a side act on Raw the last few weeks, but I’d say Charlotte retains to keep everyone else on the treadmill.

    Winner: Charlotte

Ryan Frederick: Unfortunately, the match will probably revolve around the continuation of the eventual breakup of Charlotte and Dana. This could be great if they are given the chance. Charlotte retains somehow.

    Winner: Charlotte

Steve Khan: They should turn Banks heel, but perhaps it’s too early for that. I’ll go with Charlotte squeezing out a win here.

    Winner: Charlotte

Gramps Fontaine: Somehow Dana’s going to be involved in the finish and somehow Charlotte will retain. I can’t quite place how exactly those two pieces fit together though.

    Winner: Charlotte

WWE Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day vs. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson

Bryan Rose: If Anderson and Gallows don’t win this, they are just dudes on the roster which they already nearly are already.

    Winner: Anderson and Gallows

James Cox: It’s time to change the titles, but wow, has WWE ruined these two.

    Winner: Gallows and Anderson

Brian Hoops: They are past the point of time to get the belts off New Day and let Gallows and Anderson be kick ass heel champions. Better late than never.

    Winner: Gallows/Anderson

PeachMachine: Somehow I see the Ascension getting involved and costing New Day the gold.

Winner: THE Machine Gun Karl Anderson and Doc G.

Jeremy Peeples: Thank God they’ve nixed The Club as comedy acts — now they’re just a solid team that isn’t taken seriously because they were comedy acts. They’re pushing the Demolition title reign so much that they have to be waiting to take the titles off until they beat that record, and The Club has no credibility anyway.

    Winners: The New Day

Ryan Frederick: If they don’t do the title change here, Anderson and Gallows are deader than dead. The time is right and they need to take this up a notch by switching the belts through nefarious ways.

Winners: Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson

Steve Khan: If they want to salvage Gallows and Anderson, they really need to win this. That doesn’t mean it will happen, but since this is the first Raw PPV of the new era, the timing seems right.

    Winner: Gallows & Anderson

Gramps Fontaine: New Day is going to break Demolition’s record. The Club is so much less over when this feud began that I can’t even see them getting a DQ win to continue the feud.

    Winner: The New Day

Final Match in Best of Seven Series: Cesaro vs. Sheamus

Bryan Rose: Let’s make people happy with a Cesaro win. Sheamus is absolutely not over in any way, and at least people react to Cesaro, so it only makes sense. I know I completely jinxed things by saying that, but I think that’s what will happen.

    Winner: Cesaro

James Cox: For whatever reason, they love Sheamus and don’t see Cesaro as a main event player. I think this could be an outstanding match if Cesaro wants it to be.

    Winner: Sheamus

Brian Hoops: This would gain more interest if presented with a stipulation like “loser leaves Raw.”

    Winner: Cesaro

PeachMachine: Tie

Winner: This series is going to game 8!

Jeremy Peeples: Cesaro has more to gain from the vague title shot stipulation, while Sheamus is just floundering horribly. A move to SD would probably be a good move for him. Maybe they can trade The Red Queen for The Pale King.

    Winner: Cesaro

Ryan Frederick: The right choice is Cesaro, especially if the title shot stipulation is for the Universal Title. If it’s for the US Title, I could see Sheamus winning to feud with Roman. Cesaro is the correct choice. Push him!

    Winner: Cesaro

Steve Khan: Sheamus is a dead character either way, but Cesaro might have something to gain with a win.

    Winner: Cesaro

Gramps Fontaine: If Reigns is going to win the US title, I gotta go with Sheamus here, although it would be fun to see a Reigns/Cesaro US title program and especially the fans reaction to it. I really want to see that actually. All the more reason WWE won’t do it.

    Winner: Sheamus

WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins

Bryan Rose: Owens just got the title. Seth ain’t winning this one which is funny because it adds to the narrative they’ve been pushing that Rollins has been a total loser since his return in May. Great way to build your top babyface!

    Winner: Kevin Owens

James Cox: I expect a dirty heel finish here. Clearly, they need to give Owens a chance to show what he can do as champion. Who knows what they want to do with Seth now. I hope this is good, but I’m not convinced it will be.

    Winner: Kevin Owens

Brian Hoops: In hindsight, and what was common sense at the time, Rollins should have stayed babyface when he returned from his knee surgery. Now they have flipped him and he has had a very uneventful run with the belt, diminishing his value. If the plan is to go back to Balor when he returns, they should have a heel carry the title until then to build up the credibility.

    Winner: Owens

PeachMachine: This will be a stinker. They should put Becky Lynch in there and make this a three way dance! Then I’d shoot myself.

Winner: Vin Owens

Jeremy Peeples: It’s a battle of the worst-booked world champion of 2016 versus the worst-booked world champion of 2015 – truly a battle for the ages. These men are outstanding in the ring, but butchered by poor booking. Owens needs a win and Seth can’t really be losing clean, so we’re getting some kind of BS finish, possibly involving HHH so he can show up to further the storyline without appearing on Raw when it’s doomed to die in the ratings.

    Winner: Win Owens Win

Ryan Frederick: I hope they have the match they are capable of having, but it’ll probably be overbooked. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if Triple H shows up as it feels like the right time. It’s the wrong time to take the title off of Owens. I think this feud is one-and-done for right now with Owens winning and Rollins moving on to something revolving around Stephanie, Mick Foley and HHH.

    Winner: Kevin Owens

Steve Khan: Should be the best match on the show, probably by a lot. Owens will retain.

    Winner: Kevin Owens

Gramps Fontaine: Someone’s gotta pay the price for the terrible ratings and methinks it’s gonna be the fat man. It will be a great match which Rollins will win. Trips lays him out after the match to set up intrigue for RAW on Monday night.

    Winner: Seth Rollins

September 26, 2016 Wrestling Observer Newsletter: Clash of Champions preview, new concussion test, more

The first Raw brand exclusive PPV takes place on 9/25 in Indianapolis, headlined by Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins for the Universal title.

There are two business aspects to look at immediately. The first is whether these PPVs lead to a ratings bump, although the Raw the next day is expected to be at near all-time record lows due to the Presidential debate.

The second is how it draws. The Smackdown only PPV on 9/11 in Richmond, VA, only drew 7,000 fans, and they were papering heavily around town the night before. Before the brand split, WWE was routinely selling out its PPV shows.

Brian Kendrick vs. TJ Perkins set for WWE Clash of Champions

Completing a journey that seemed almost impossible before the Cruiserweight Classic began, Brian Kendrick will wrestle on a WWE pay-per-view for the first time since 2009 when he challenges WWE Cruiserweight Champion TJ Perkins at Clash of Champions on Sunday.

Kendrick defeated Cedric Alexander, Gran Metalik, and Rich Swann in a fatal four-way match on Monday’s edition of Raw to earn a shot at the title. Kendrick picked up the win after submitting Alexander with a choke that is now being called the Captain’s Hook.

Raw General Manager Mick Foley introduced the brand’s new cruiserweight division, and then brought Swann, Metalik, Alexander, and Kendrick out to the ring. Perkins didn’t make an appearance on Raw as the division made its debut.

It was also announced on Raw that Nia Jax would face Alicia Fox on Sunday’s kickoff show.

The current card for Clash of Champions is:

Charlotte to defend against Sasha Banks and Bayley at WWE Clash of Champions

It seemed to most viewers that last week’s triple threat match for a shot at Charlotte’s Raw Women’s Championship ended with a double pin between Sasha Banks and Bayley, and WWE finally acknowledged the controversial finish on tonight’s episode of Raw.

In a backstage segment with Raw General Manager Mick Foley, Dana Brooke pointed out the double pin in an attempt to get the Clash of Champions match canceled. But Foley announced that Charlotte would instead defend against both Banks and Bayley in a triple threat match at Sunday’s pay-per-view.

Banks was originally declared the winner of last week’s triple threat that also included Brooke and Bayley, but both Banks and Bayley intentionally had their shoulders on the mat. Banks originally returned from a back injury two weeks ago and vowed to win her championship back after dropping it to Charlotte at SummerSlam.

The current card for Clash of Champions is:

  • WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens defending against Seth Rollins
  • Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte defending against Sasha Banks and Bayley in a triple threat match
  • United States Champion Rusev defending against Roman Reigns
  • Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day defending against Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows
  • Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho

Roman Reigns vs. Rusev set for WWE Clash of Champions

Though the match was made apparent last week, it was officially announced on tonight’s Raw that Roman Reigns would challenge Rusev for his United States Championship at the brand’s upcoming Clash of Champions pay-per-view.

Reigns opened Raw with a promo targeted at Rusev for interfering in his match against Kevin Owens last week. Reigns was joined by Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley in the ring, and Foley announced that Reigns would face Rusev for his title at Sunday’s PPV.

After Rusev’s interference last week was the storyline reason that prevented him from joining the Clash of Champions main event, Reigns will face Owens again in a steel cage match in the main event of tonight’s Raw. But Stephanie McMahon clarified that the match won’t be for Owens’ WWE Universal Championship.

Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho set for WWE Clash of Champions

After failing to make the main card at SummerSlam, Sami Zayn will be better positioned at Raw’s upcoming Clash of Champions pay-per-view.

It was announced on Monday night’s edition of Raw that Zayn will face Chris Jericho at Clash of Champions. The show will be Raw’s first brand-exclusive PPV since the WWE Draft.

Their feud was set up earlier in the night when Zayn made an appearance on Jericho’s Highlight Reel show. Jericho promised to expose Zayn as the stupid idiot he really is, and said that Zayn was the problem in the Zayn/Kevin Owens relationship. The segment ended with Jericho faking that he got a text from Owens, then smashing his phone in Zayn’s face.

In Monday night’s opening match, Sasha Banks faced off against Bayley and Dana Brooke in a triple threat match. The winner would challenge Charlotte for the Raw Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions, but Banks retained her spot in the match after pinning Bayley.

Roman Reigns will face Owens in the main event of Raw. If Reigns wins, he will be inserted in Clash of Champions’ Universal Championship main event.

UPDATE: Owens defeated Reigns after getting some help from Rusev, who briefly distracted Reigns.

Clash of Champions takes place on September 25th in Indianapolis, IN. The current card for the show is:

  • WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens defending against Seth Rollins
  • Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte defending against Sasha Banks
  • Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day defending against Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows
  • Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho

Sasha Banks returning against Charlotte at WWE Clash of Champions

Sasha Banks teased earlier on Monday that she would deliver bad news on tonight’s Raw, but it turns out that was only directed at Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte.

Following a promo designed to misdirect the audience into thinking she was retiring, Banks declared her intentions to challenge Charlotte for the Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions on September 25th.

Dana Brooke interrupted Banks in the middle of the promo. Brooke tried to take advantage of Banks’ injured state, but Banks hit the Banks Statement on her. Banks then revealed the news that she was ready to return to the ring.

After originally defeating Charlotte for the title on the first post-draft edition of Raw, Banks dropped it back to Charlotte at SummerSlam because of a back injury she was dealing with. But Dave Meltzer reported that the injury wouldn’t require surgery and Banks would return sooner than was previously feared.

The current card for Clash of Champions is:

  • WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens defending against Seth Rollins
  • Raw Women’s Champion Charlotte defending against Sasha Banks
  • Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day defending against The Club (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows)

The New Day to defend against The Club at WWE Clash of Champions

In addition to the show’s Universal Championship main event, a Tag Team Championship match was added to the upcoming Clash of Champions card on Monday’s Raw.

At Clash of Champions, The New Day will once again defend their titles against The Club. Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows previously defeated The New Day at SummerSlam, but they failed to win the titles in the process. They won by disqualification after Big E returned from a storyline groin injury to interfere and help his partners.

In a lengthy comedy segment that fell flat with the crowd on Monday’s Raw, Anderson and Gallows brought out three imposters (called The Old Day) pretending to be geriatric versions of Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods. The present-day New Day then came out and chased Anderson and Gallows away from the ring. One of the imposters tried to attack The New Day after, but all three were laid out by the tag champions.

Clash of Champions is Raw’s first brand-exclusive pay-per-view since the WWE Draft. It will take place on Sunday, September 25th in Indianapolis, IN.

The current card for the show is:

  • WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens defending against Seth Rollins
  • Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day defending against The Club (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows)

Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins booked for WWE Clash of Champions

It didn’t take very long for the first challenger for Kevin Owens’ Universal Championship to be revealed.

In the opening segment of Monday’s Raw, it was announced that Owens will defend his title against Seth Rollins at Clash of Champions on September 25th.

The show began with an in-ring ceremony celebrating Owens’ title win last week. Joined by Stephanie McMahon and Mick Foley, Owens declared that Raw was the Kevin Owens show and mocked the fans for chanting that he deserved it last week.

Rollins eventually interrupted the segment and accused McMahon of being involved in Triple H turning on him last week. Foley stepped in, telling Rollins that McMahon really didn’t have anything to do with it. Rollins claimed that Owens was Triple H’s chosen one from the day he stepped foot in NXT. Owens replied, saying the architect had only been drawing blueprints for total failure since he’s been back from injury.

Rollins got the advantage on Owens as they brawled. McMahon attempted to suspend Rollins indefinitely, but Foley wouldn’t allow it. He said they didn’t hand out suspensions to people who have been wronged, they hand out rematches. Foley said he was given the ability to make matches for the brand and demanded McMahon respect that.

Claiming that he wouldn’t put a talent like Rollins on the shelf, Foley made the match official for Clash of Champions.

The show will be the first Raw-exclusive pay-per-view since the WWE Draft. It will take place in Indianapolis, IN.

UPDATE: It was announced at the end of Raw that Owens will face Roman Reigns on next week’s show. If Reigns wins, he will be inserted into a triple threat match for the title at Clash of Champions.
