TNA names new president, addresses Josh Mathews & Christy Hemme exits in statement

After the out-of-nowhere exits of longtime TNA Wrestling front office workers Josh Mathews and Christy Hemme Wednesday, the company released a brief statement addressing their departures in addition to naming a new president.

From their statement first released to SI’s Jon Alba:

“The new TNA Wrestling President is Carlos Silva.

George Veras is the new Executive Producer of the Anthem Sports Group. George is the 10-time Emmy Award-winning president and Chief Executive Officer of Pro Football Hall of Fame Enterprises, as well as president of Veras Communications, Incorporated.

Josh Mathews and Christy Hemme are no longer with the Company. We appreciate their commitment to TNA throughout the years, and wish them well in their future endeavors.”

Silva was named president of Anthem Sports & Entertainment last December, responsible for the growth of TNA, Invicta Fighting Championships, and the Fight Network. He replaces Anthony Cicione in a role he took over from Scott D’Amore in February following D’Amore’s release. Cicione will reportedly remain within Anthem according to Fightful.

Following a 13-year-run with WWE, Mathews signed with TNA in 2014 where he would spend 11 years in a variety of roles including as the longtime broadcasting voice through January 2021 before solely focusing on other duties.

Hemme, who spent two years in WWE from 2004-05, signed with TNA in the spring of 2006 before departing in 2016 after a run as an in-ring wrestler, ring announcer and backstage interviewer. She was rehired in 2022 to oversee TNA’s social media presence.

As of yet, neither Mathews or Hemme have addressed their departures.

Report: TNA Wrestling president out, Josh Mathews & Christy Hemme exit company

TNA Wrestling made significant backstage changes on Wednesday, according to reports from Fightful Select and PWInsider.

Anthony Cicione is no longer serving as TNA President, a role he took over from Scott D’Amore in February following D’Amore’s release from the company.

Additionally, Josh Mathews and Christy Hemme have exited the company. Mathews, who had been with TNA for over a decade, most recently served as Senior Producer and Senior Director of Digital Media. He joined TNA in 2014 shortly after being released from WWE, where he had worked since finishing as a runner-up to Maven on the first season of Tough Enough in 2001.

Hemme, who returned to TNA in 2022, had been overseeing the company’s social media. She previously worked with the promotion from 2006 to 2016, primarily as a ring announcer and backstage interviewer.

Fightful Select also reports that Anthem has brought in new executives. George Veras will take over as Executive Producer for Anthem Sports Group, while Andrea Pagnanelli has been named Senior Vice President of Marketing.

Christy Hemme working backstage with Impact Wrestling

Christy Hemme is back with Impact Wrestling.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio Tuesday, Gail Kim revealed that Hemme is working in a backstage role with the company, detailing some of what her role is.

“She’s backstage now and working on a lot of things, helping with some branding stuff and production stuff. It’s great to have. The more women in the office, the better,” she said.

The 41-year-old spent a decade as a performer for Impact from 2006 to 2016. After announcing her in-ring retirement in 2009, Hemme worked as a backstage interviewer and ring announcer. She was named “Knockout of the Year” in 2006.

Hemme won WWE’s Diva Search in 2004 and won a contract with the company. She released from WWE in late 2005 shortly after being assigned to Ohio Valley Wrestling.

In March 2020, Kim, Hemme and Lita attempt to launch KAYfABE, a scripted TV show about a female-led pro wrestling startup, through Kickstarter but did not meet their financial goal.

Impact announces Knockouts Knockdown all-women’s event

The show will air on October 9 on Impact Plus and will tape this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Skyway Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. Lita, Gail Kim & Christy Hemme raising money for ‘Kayfabe’ pilot

Three former wrestlers launched a Kickstarter Monday in hopes of producing a pilot.

Amy “Lita” Dumas, Gail Kim, and Christy Hemme are the trio pushing Kayfabea one hour show they say is half story, half in-ring action.

From the Kickstarter: “It is an edgy, racy, cinematic television series about a female led professional wrestling start-up. This show is a dramatization and collection of female stories inspired by real life events.”

In the nearly five minute video for the pitch, the three introduced the concept and the crew behind it which include former WWE writer Tom Casiello, former WWE/Impact production team member David Sahadi, Jimmy Jacobs, and Chavo Guerrero.

The video also includes what best can be described as trailer-style footage showing a female fan being disenchanted with the wrestling business amid images of #MeToo articles plastered on a wall. The accompanying voiceover is that she doesn’t trust the business or how it’s run so she’s going to take matters in her own hands.

They are looking to raise $400,000 in 36 days with stretch goals of up to $4.6 million to produce a full eight episode season.
