ROH TV taping results: Christopher Daniels gets his rematch

Submitted by reader Greg Valko

– The crowd was tiny compared to Friday night’s pay-per-view. There were a lot of empty seats and the crowd was asked to move to face the hard cam.

– The tapings opened with The Addiction running down the Lowell crowd and turning heel. Christopher Daniels invoked his rematch clause, and vowed to win the title and then quit the company. There were some direct references to NXT, so this may get edited.

– ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Dalton Castle & The Boys defeated Coast 2 Coast & Flip Gordon to retain their titles

Castle pinned Leon St. Giovanni after hitting the Bang-a-Rang. There was lots of comedy with The Boys.

– Matt Taven defeated Ultimo Guerrero

Taven got the pin after a ref distraction. The crowd was hot for Guerrero.

– Motor City Machine Guns defeated War Machine

They had a great match.

– Kris Wolf defeated Sumie Sakai in a Women of Honor match

Wolf got the pin after a bunch of cradle reversals. Some streamers hit her in the head when the match started. Sakai took most of the match and used Wolf’s tail for heat.

– Cody Rhodes came out alone for a promo. He praised the crowd for loving him, then buried Sinclair Broadcasting for not addressing him as champ or Mr. Rhodes.

He said Daniels has lost his smile (it’s been about 20 years since those words were first uttered in the Lowell Memorial Auditorium by Shawn Michaels on Thursday Raw Thursday). He said that Daniels is getting his rematch tonight — and it’s in a two-out-of-three falls match.

– Punishment Martinez defeated Jonathan Gresham

They had a standard big guy vs. little guy match. Gresham doesn’t even come up to Martinez’s shoulders. He worked on Martinez’s knee to get some shine, but Martinez made a comeback after powerbombing him on the apron in a brutal spot.

Jay White ended up making the save for Gresham.

– Cheeseburger & Jay Diesel defeated The Tempura Boyz

Cheeseburger almost got carried off by groupies in an angle after the match before security interrupted. Will Ferrara then ran out, attacked Cheeseburger, and fled through the crowd.

– The Young Bucks & Hangman Page defeated The Briscoes & Bully Ray

There were two ref bumps and Marty Scurll whacked one of the Briscoes with an umbrella. Page then fell on the Briscoe for a cover. The Briscoes went insane after the match and attacked ring crew members at ringside and started whipping a chain around.

– Shane Taylor jumped someone from behind as they came down to the ring for a match. Taylor beat him down and walked out. The person who he attacked didn’t get music, a video, or even an introduction.

– Jenny Rose defeated Mandy Leon in a Women of Honor match

Rose won with a back body drop.

– The Bullet Club entered for a promo without Cody or Scurll. Matt Jackson said ROH has no challengers for the tag titles, then somehow booked themselves into a match for the six-man belts against Castle & The Boys. They then introduced Scurll for the next match.

– Marty Scurll defeated Vinny Marseglia, Josh Woods, Will Ferrara, El Terrible, and Frankie Kazarian in a Six-Man Mayhem match

Scurll spent most of the match breaking up pins and hovering outside waiting to strike. Shane Taylor randomly came in and destroyed people. Woods was taken to the back by trainers mid-way through. Kazarian hit a cutter on Marseglia, but Scurll ended up stealing the pin.

– Beer City Bruiser defeated Brian Milonas

Bruiser won with a frog splash. Silas Young had a sign saying that it’s been 29 days without a workplace safety accident.

After the match, Young said it has been 29 days since Best in the World and no one has seen Jay Lethal since then.

– ROH Television Champion KUSHIDA defeated Jay White to retain his title

KUSHIDA retained after hitting the Back to the Future.

– The announcement was made that the Cody vs. Daniels rematch is coming at this taping.

– Silas Young and Bruiser came out with a sign that said it’s now been 36 days. Someone in the audience screamed that it’s only been one day.

– Karen Q defeated Deonna Purrazzo and Kelly Klein in a Women of Honor match

Karen Q got a surprise roll-up.

– Silas Young and Bruiser were back out. In 15 minutes, the sign now read that it’s been 43 days. Lethal entered (without taped ribs or anything) and cleaned house. He beat up Young and went to whack him with a keg, but security ran in and broke it up.

– ROH World Champion Cody defeated Christopher Daniels in a two-out-of-three falls match to retain his title

Cody won the first two falls to retain. He basically worked as a super babyface.

The first fall saw Daniels injuring Cody with the barricade, but Cody made a comeback with an arm drag off the top turnbuckle. Daniels shoved Cody into Todd Sinclair, then low blows were exchanged (with Daniels striking first). Kazarian ran in with a chair and threw it in, but Scurll made the save for Cody.

Daniels tried to use the chair until he got rolled up by Cody for the first fall.

Daniels immediately hit Cody with the chair before the next fall started and laid into him as the second fall began. Cody was thrown into the barricades and got a 19 count before coming in. He eventually hit the Cross Rhodes and took the second fall.

Bullet Club came out to celebrate as the tapings ended.

**********

MATT TAVEN & VINNY MARSEGLIA VS. ULTIMO GUERRERO & EL TERRIBLE

Guerrero pinned Marseglia with a schoolboy.  There were a lot of dives but the match didn’t really click.  The match was under Lucha rules.  Guerrero works better with flyers.  He did seem to get ove with the crowd.  The crowd seemed to like it okay.

FRANKIE KAZARIAN VS. HANGMAN PAGE IN A STRAP MATCH

This was different.  It was actually a country whipping match as opposed to a strap match.  Both guys whipped each other with belts and also did some wrestling with near falls.  Page introduced a belt with ails on it and both whipped the other with it so both had sliced up backs.  It was kind of sick.  Page took a suplex on steps and was also used a strap to throw him off the apron to the floor.  The finish saw Kazarian choking Page over the ropes with a belt and Page tapped out.

KENNY KING & RHETT TITUS & CAPRICE COLEMAN & SHANE TAYLOR VS. JONATHAN GRESHAM & JAY WHITE & CHRIS SABIN & ALEX SHELLEY LOSING SQUAD HAS TO BREAK UP

Tons of moveds.  It wasn’t that crisp in a lot of the way but White, Sabin and Shelley all looked good, particularly late.  It ended up as a four way submmission with Gresham using the Octopus on Titus, White used a crossface on King, Sabin used a cloverleaf on Coleman and Shelley had a submission on Taylor.

After the match, Punishment Martinez came out and cleaned house on the babyfaces throwing them out of the ring and once again choke slamming White to keep their program going.

JAY LETHAL VS. SILAS YOUNG

Good long match.  Best so far.  Lethal took out Beer City Bruiser early with chair shots.  Good back and forth match.  Lots of near falls.  Young shoved down ref Todd Sinclair and Young went for a cradle pin but the ref was slow getting there.  Lethal then cradled him for the pin.

After the match Young gave Lethal misery which is the TKO, on the keg. Yong held him and Bruiser squashed Lethal into the keg three times.  Then Young & Bruiser pulled out a table.  Young put Lethal on the table.  Bruiser went to the top rope and splashed Lehtal through the table on the floor.  That spot looked great.  They pushed they hurt his ribs leading into the U.S. title tournament.

BULLY RAY & BRISCOES VS. DALTON CASTLE & THE BOYS FOR THE TRIOS TITLES

They did a surprise title change here.  Good match.  The match was booked with the idea The Boys aren’t good enough to compete and Castle was the only one who got offense and had to carry things.  The finish saw the Boys run away and Jay wanted to chase after but Bully stopped Jay to get Jay to focus on the match.  While they were all distracted, Castle cradled Mark for the pin.  Bully at one point called for the tables but nobody ever go them.  The crowd was into Bully and Castle doing poses particularly Bully doing the peacock pose and dancing.

KUSHIDA VS. MARTY SCURLL FOR THE TV TITLE

Kushdia retained the title using the broken fingers spot, followed by back to the future off the middle rope and then another back to the future llin the ring.  Excellent match.  I don’t think it would be possible for these two to have anything but a great match.  Scurll did great British style.  Kushida worked the armbar spot and hoverboard lock spot, Scurll did the borken fingers spot and the chicken wing.  Few are better at working a rope break than Kushida.

They showed the dark match finish.  Kris Wolf & Sumie Sakai beat Deonna Purrazzo & Mandy Leon.  Wolf pinned Purrazzo at the saame time Mandy Leon was pinning Sumie Sakai but Wolf and Purrazzo were legal.

YOUNG BUCKS VS. WAR MACHINE VS. CHUCK TAYLOR & TRENT BARETTA FOR ROH TAG TITLES IN A TORNADO MATCH, TAYLOR & BARETTA WERE ADDED AT THE LAST MINUTE AS WERE THE STIPS

So this was insane.  It was 13:00 of insane spots one after the other.  The Young Bucks retained the title when Nick did the Indy taker while Hanson & Rowe each had Baretta & Tyalor up in a piledriver position.  Then after a superkicks on Rowe & Hanson, Matt pinned Taylor.  The match was just nonstop moves.  The crowd was going nuts the entire time, far more than anything else on the show.  The timing of everything and execution was great.  There were so many moves that you could never keep track of them but everyone pretty much did everything they could in a condensed version of an incredible match.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS VS. CODY FOR ROH TITLE

Cody won the title after Daniels used a rolling revese cradle but Cody rolled through and used crossroads.  Daniels had kicked out of crossroads earlier.  The cowd was totally behind Cody, as it was a Bullet Club night.  Cody split his lip up badly ealry in the match.  Daniels was cut from the top of the head.  There was a ref bump and Daniels had him pinned twice but no ref.  Marty Scurll threw in a chair but Daniels took a fake bump and therw the chair to Cody but Todd Sinclair didn’t DQ Cody.  Frankie Kazarian ran in for the save and fought Scurll to the back.  Daniels used a back suplex off the apron through a table.  Cody also did a rainmaker and the rainmaker pose to tease the match with Okada.  It was hard to follow the prior match and really that match should have gone last except they wanted to end the show with the Bullet Club celebration.

Christopher Daniels vs. Cody set for ROH Best in the World

The main event for Ring of Honor’s next pay-per-view is set.

ROH announced last night that Cody Rhodes will challenge for Christopher Daniels’ World Championship in the main event of Best in the World on June 23rd.

Rhodes also challenged for the title at ROH’s War of the Worlds PPV earlier this month, which was in a triple threat match that also included Jay Lethal. While Rhodes had the figure four applied on Lethal, Daniels hit the Best Moonsault Ever on Rhodes and pinned him to retain the title.

The storyline coming out of War of the Worlds was that Rhodes wanted a one-on-one match against Daniels due to Lethal’s shoulders being on the mat in the figure four. Rhodes portraying himself as an outsider will likely also play into their title match, with him recently backing off claims that he had made about being ready to make a promotion his full-time pro wrestling home.

Rhodes tweeted about the match: “31 years. 31 years since a Rhodes has been THE World Champion. June 23rd. Best in the World. Lowell, MA. Can you imagine?”

The Lowell Memorial Auditorium will host Best in the World 2017 before an ROH TV taping also takes place at the venue the next night.

ROH War of the Worlds PPV live results: Daniels vs. Cody vs. Lethal

Preview by Bryan Rose

The stars of New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honor collide as War of the Worlds takes place tonight at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

We’re looking for your thoughts on tonight’s show, so you can send a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

The main event will feature a three-way bout for the ROH World title as Christopher Daniels defends against both Cody and Jay Lethal. With Lethal scoring a big win over Cody recently at Supercard of Honor it would seem like he has the most momentum going in, but Daniels and Cody have also scored big victories as of late.

Other title matches include Marty Scurll defending the ROH TV title against Matt Sydal, The Young Bucks defending their ROH tag team titles against Los Ingobernables de Japon members BUSHI & Tetsuya Naito, and Chaos representatives Roppongi Vice & Hirooki Goto challenging Bully Ray & The Briscoes for the ROH six-man titles.

Highlights from the rest of the card include Adam Cole facing Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jay White squaring off against Will Ospreay, and a three-way tag featuring EVIL & SANADA facing Chris Sabin & Jonathan Gresham and War Machine.

Join us for live coverage starting at 9 p.m. ET.

**********

They just announced the creation of an IWGP United States heavyweight title which will be decided in a tournament on 7/1 and 7/2 in Long Beach.

KUSHIDA VS. BOBBY FISH VS. DALTON CASTLE VS. SILAS YOUNG

This was a fast match with everyone doing big moves and being broken up.  Kushida and Castle were the most over.  Castle pinned Fish clean after the bang-a-rang.

FRANKIE KAZARIAN VS. HANGMAN PAGE

Another rushed match.  Kazarian went for a sunset flip out of the corner but Page blocked it and held the ropes and got the pin.  The match was hot while it lasted.  There was a spot where Page spit in Kazarian’s face, Kazarian spit back, Page blew his nose on Kazarian, Kazarian spit in Page’s mouth, but actually go ton his chin and Page then grabbed the spit and ate it.  Kazarian alsodid a dive and a slingshot into a diamond cutter.

WAR MACHINE VS. CHRIS SABIN & JONATHAN GRESHAM VS. EVIL & SEIYA SANADA

This was another very good but rushed match.  Really it was great while it lasted.  Hanson powerslammed Sabin and did a tope on four guys and then Rowe pinned Sabin.  Lots of dives.  Rowe did a belly to belly overhead on Sabin & Gresham at the same time.  Sanada is one of the most talented guys around.  Everyone looked good here.  Evil did the chair around the head and chair shot on Hanson.

WILL OSPREAY VS. JAY WHITE

This was one of the best mathes in North Ameria so far this year.  Ospreay got the win after a springboard shooting star press to the floor and an Oscutter.  Both got on their kneees and showed repect for each other.  Fans gave them a few standing ovations.  There was so much insanity here including Ospreay doing a space flying Tiger drop but White caught him and gave him a brainbuster on the apron.  There were so many big spots you can’t even list them all but it was prefect timing, super hot crowd once they were about 8:00 or so in when the crowd realized how special this match was.

After the match Punishment Maritenz, gave Ospreay a kick and then choke slammed White.  This was a good way to do this because people loved that match so much and how much they gave tghat it got Martinez real heat for attacking both.  Martinez lost to White in Hopkins, MN so that was the reason.

BULLY RAY & BRISCOES VS. HIROOKI GOTO & ROCKY ROMERO & BARETTA FOR THE ROH SIX MAN TITLES

Another really good match.  This was no DQ and  there were early dives byt he Briscoes.  Lots of chair shots to the head, not brutal, but way too many and needless.  Super fast paced.  Bully was super over.  The finish saw Bully power bomb Baretta off the middle ropes through a table after the Briscoes got the tables.  The Briscoes then worked with Bully to do a 3D on Romero and got the pin.  Bully and Goto did the Japanese trading of elbows in the middle in between all the chair shots that Mark and Baretta were taking.  Baretta also did a great dive and Mark did a moonsault tothe floor, a blockbuster off the apron and elbow off the apron among his spots.  .

MARTY SCURLL VS. MATT SYDAL FOR TV TITLE

Another very good match.  It was tough coming off those last two matches.  Sydal did some cool huracanranas standing and jumping on the top rope and another coming off a suplex by Scurll.  Of course Scurll’s big spot was the finger break.  The finish saw Sydal go for the shooting star press, but Scurll go this knees up and then got the chicken wing for the submission.

YOUNG BUCKS VS. TETSUYA NAITO & BUSHI FOR TAG TITLES.

Another very good match.  It wasn’t as long as most Bucks title matches but all action.  Bushi blew mist in Matt’s eyes but he superkicked Naito, Bushi, Nick and the ref.  Naito did most of his stuff.  He did the destino on Matt but Nick saved with a swanton.  The finish saw Nick take out Naito with a springboard flip dive and they pinned Bushi with the Meltzer driver.

They talked about the U.S. title tournament and announced Jay Lethal as the first entrant.  Hangman Page confornted him so he’ll be in as well.

HIROSHI TANAHASHI VS. ADAM COLE

They pushed this as one of the best champions in ROH history against the best champion in New Japan.  Colt Cabana teased Cole  leaving saying that Tanahashi was Cole’s dream match and maybe he’ll go somewhere else.  They had a very good match, not the level of almost any Tanahashi match, but still good.  The crowd was really into it and they did a good enough match but not a great match.  Tanahashi won with a high fly flow.. .

The Bucks came out and teased superkickcing him but isead hugged him.  They called this the curtain call.  The lights then went out.  Kenny Omega was on the screen.  Omega made fun of the curtain call.  Omega said he was disappointed at the Young Bucks.  The same man who tired to fire you is being showered with adulation.  Omega said to Cole that your tenure in Bullet Club and pro wreslting has been long and storied.  In every fairy tail there has to be a hero and haves to be a villain.  Omega was with Scurll.  Omega fired him and they teased Scurll replacing him in Bullet Club.  The lights went on and Scurll was in the ring with a Bullet Club umbrella.  The Young Bucks then superkicked Cole and Scurll had a Bullet Club t-shirt.  Scurll nailed Cole with a hard umbbrella shot and the Bucks both kissed Cole.  They talked about how Cole poisoned Nick whcih was a storyline on Being the Elite.

CHRISTOPHER DANIELS VS. CODY VS. JAY LETHAL FOR ROH TITLE

Daniels retained the title.  Cody had Lethal in the figure four and Daniels did the best moonsault ever on Cody and pinned him.  Daniels had been taken out a minute earlier when Daniels knoked daneils off the apron through a table.  Rhodes kicked out of the Lethal injection and then Lethal kicked out of crossroads.  Lethal did a tope early where he hurt his knee but until very late when Rhodes used the figure our, and one dragon screw, nobody really worked on the knee.  They pushed the idea that Daniels outsmarted everyone enroute to winnning.  Shorter than most world title matches and it was fine.  Really nothing on this show could touch with Ospreay match.  They ended right at the three hour mark so to get all these matches on the show they had to rush everything.

They announced the next PPV for 6-23 in Lowell, A.

ROH TV results: Daniels & Castle team against Cole & Cody

Synopsis —

The Bullet Club showed their devious side when Adam Cole swerved the audience by teasing dissension in the main event where he teamed with Cody (Rhodes) for a tag team match against Dalton Castle and ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels.

Elsewhere on the show, The Young Bucks defended their ROH World Tag Team titles against the challenge of a cheerleading team. Also, Punishment Martinez looked to tap a keg.

Where to Watch —

The episode is currently available via the official ROH website to watch for free until a new episode is uploaded next Thursday. A new episode begins airing this weekend in syndication so check local listings for availability in your area.

That new episode streams on the FITE TV app starting Monday evening before it airs on Wednesday at midnight ET on Comet TV, including that channel’s free online live stream.

Show Recap —

The episode opened with an entrance by The Young Bucks for a tag match set up after an angle on a previous show. The Squad came through the crowd and hopped a guardrail for a sneak attack on Nick and Matt Jackson.

ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks defeated The Squad to retain their titles

The Squad (formerly the Spirit Squad in WWE) was Mike Mondo and Ken Doane. They were getting the better of the Jacksons after the sneak attack, but The Young Bucks soon fired up to cut them off. Moments later, The Squad turned the tide and got heat on Matt Jackson.

That led to a hot tag where Nick Jackson ran wild. The Bucks eventually executed the Meltzer Driver and Matt pinned Mondo for the pinfall. In winning, The Young Bucks retained their tag team titles.

Flanked by The Kingdom, Matt Taven cut a promo hyping him challenging for the World title match against Christopher Daniels. Taven called Daniels a “dinosaur” while also saying other unkind things as he waved his walking stick. The Kingdom cohorts nodded their approval.

In another promo, Mark & Jay Briscoe hyped a tag match with their tag partner, Bully Ray, defending the six-man titles against The Rebellion. That match is the main event on the next episode.

Damian “Punishment” Martinez defeated Beer City Bruiser

Silas Young joined the announce booth to provide guest commentary. This was a mean guy match and heel against heel. They went back-and-forth throughout much of the match like the proverbial unstoppable force meeting the immovable object.

Bruiser is a big proponent of the cannonball. He must be fun at pool parties. Well, he also brought a keg of beer to the ring with him so he is probably quite fun at parties.

Anyway, back to the cannonballs. Bruiser did one off the apron before doing some others in the ring. On commentary, Colt Cabana pondered Bruiser’s weight when converted from pounds to chili dogs. I was unaware chili dogs were a unit of measure, but you learn something new every day.

Bruiser would eventually walk into a superkick and a goozle, then Martinez delivered a chokeslam for the pinfall.

ROH World TV Champion Marty Scurll cut a brief promo on Matt Sydal. Scurll basically said he would remain champ even after their match at War of the Worlds.

In another promo, Adam Cole again tried to reiterate that the Bullet Club is stronger than ever despite recent dissension with himself and the Elite trifecta of The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega.

Jay Lethal provided guest commentary for the main event tag match. This led to an angle afterwards as Lethal has an ongoing feud with Cody.

Adam Cole & Cody defeated Christopher Daniels & Dalton Castle (w/ The Boys)

Beforehand, Cody demanded that The Boys leave ringside but they stayed anyhow.

Cody squared off with Castle at the start, with Castle getting the better of the exchanges. Daniels then also began to dominate exchanges with Cody until he was cut off. Cole tagged in as the Bullet Club appeared to get heat on Daniels. It wasn’t for long, as the babyfaces quickly regrouped.

Cody hit Castle with a low blow to set up the heat spot. Bullet Club began working over Castle as The Boys tried to rally support from the crowd. Cody went for a disaster kick only to inadvertently hit Cole. Dissension then emerged as an angry Cole stormed off to leave Cody hanging. Or did he?

Daniels unleashed a volley of offense on Cody as he looked to set up his Angel’s Wings finisher. With Cody hooked, Daniels went to hoist him up when Cole suddenly rushed into the ring to superkick Daniels.

Cole executed the Last Shot and Cody delivered Cross Rhodes. Cody then covered Daniels for the pinfall. So, Cody scored a pin on the World Champion ahead of him challenging for the title.

Following the match, Cody and Cole stood over a beaten Daniels to taunt him. The Young Bucks joined them in the ring as they all posed.

After the Bullet Club left the scene, Jay Lethal got in the ring to confront Daniels. An aggressive Lethal was upset the PPV match was a triple threat match. He wanted a singles match. He and Daniels began arguing when Cody returned to the ring to jump them.

They began brawling and Lethal wiped out the other two with a Lethal Injection. Lethal posed with the World title belt as the show closed.

Updated main event for next ROH PPV

Ring of Honor announced today the updated main event for the May 12th War of the Worlds pay-per-view from the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Cody challenging for the ROH World Championship in a triple threat match had originally been announced as the main event, with him set to face whoever is champion after Christopher Daniels vs. Matt Taven for the title in Dearborn, Michigan on May 10th and the winner of a four-way that was taped last month. After that match aired on television, ROH announced that Jay Lethal was officially added to the triple threat at the PPV.

Lethal defeated Jay White, Silas Young, and Hangman Page in the four-way.

At War of the Worlds in New York, White will face Will Ospreay while Page will face Frankie Kazarian. No match has been announced for Young.

Lethal being in the match plays off of the feud that he’s had with Cody in ROH. Lethal previously defeated Cody in a Texas bullrope match in Florida over WrestleMania weekend.

ROH Milwaukee, WI, live results: Young Bucks vs. The Addiction

Submitted by reader Frank Azzolina

– Stacy Shadows defeated Sierra in a Women of Honor match

These were two local wrestlers from Brew City Wrestling.

Neither Bobby Cruise nor Scarlett Bordeaux was there as an announcer. Silas Young and Beer City Bruiser basically ran the show last night.

– The Motor City Machine Guns defeated The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Vinny Marseglia)

This match spilled into the crowd and to the bar area. Taven and Marseglia took shots of Jack Daniels during the match. The crowd chanted “shots” for all of Taven’s strikes as he promised to buy shots for the crowd several years back. MCMG got the win.

– Beer City Bruiser defeated Punishment Martinez, Shane Taylor, and Cheeseburger in a four-way match

This was a standard ROH four-way. Cheeseburger got ragdolled around and did comedy spots. Martinez was somewhat of a disappointment to me. BCB got the hometown rub and won the match.

– Adam Cole defeated Jay White

Both did solid work here. Cole hit multiple shining wizards and connected with a superkick off of a high-risk move from White. Hangman Page interfered and put a noose on White. As this happened, Romantic Touch (Rhett Titus under a mask) came out to make the save.

– Hangman Page defeated Romantic Touch

This was an impromptu match after the previous one.

– ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions Bully Ray & The Briscoes defeated War Machine & Dalton Castle in a Milwaukee street fight

This was easily the match of the night and the crowd was really into it. War Machine came out as Castle’s Boys. The match was announced as a Milwaukee street fight. They used chairs and beer cans, did hoss spots, and there was an impromptu peacock-off between Castle and Bully Ray that popped the crowd hard for at least five minutes.

Bully Ray did a table spot and put Castle through it for the win. He got on the mic and said he is happy to be in ROH and said he is happy to do that kind of match again. He was incredibly gracious to the crowd. He seemed excited to be there last night.

– Will Ferrara defeated Jared Jaxx

Jaxx is a local from BCW. Ferrara refused the Code of Honor and won by pin in a forgettable match.

– ROH World Television Champion Marty Scurll defeated Delirious

Scurll was super over. He’s an awesome, fresh character. He did the finger break spot, and since Delirious was barefoot, a toe-breaking spot as well. He won with the chickenwing.

– ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks defeated The Addiction (ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian)

As usual, the Bucks were the main attraction. There were plenty of Bullet Club, The Elite, and Young Bucks shirts in the crowd. Beer City Bruiser initially announced that The Addiction would not compete due to food poisoning. The Bucks then offered an open challenge, which The Addiction accepted dressed up as the Legion of Doom — Hawk Daniels and Animal Kazarian.

They had a great match. I’m sure these guys can do this in their sleep at this point. Bucks hit the Meltzer Driver for the win.

– Silas Young defeated Jay Lethal

This was a good match, but it started about three hours in. The crowd was kind of dead after the six-man and Young Bucks matches. Young got the win by pinfall. He’s so agile for a guy his size.

Overall, this was a very good show. The ROH roster seems pretty thin at this point. The Bucks are definitely the most over, though the six-man street fight stole this show. People walking out seemed to enjoy the show.

My biggest takeaway from it was that ROH came to Milwaukee in June 2016 with a show that had Moose, Lio Rush, Kyle O’Reilly, Bobby Fish, Donovan Dijak, Kamaitachi, RPG Vice, Michael Elgin, ACH, Juice Robinson, and Roderick Strong. It’s pretty crazy how most of those guys are gone.

My Favorite Wrestler (This Week): Daniels, Styles, Ibushi, WALTER, more

With ROH’s 15th Anniversary show, wXw’s 16 Carat Gold, and the opening stages of the New Japan Cup, as well as the usual 1,000 hours of WWE programming, there’s been no shortage of great wrestling over the past seven days. Our team picked their favorite wrestler of the week. Who’s yours?

This week’s panel —

Tomohiro Ishii

By Zach Dominello

Ishii is literally the best. He’s so good that he’s Nakamura’s favorite wrestler. He’s so good he once actually pulled a watchable match out of Yujiro Takahashi. More recently, he had the best match of the New Japan Cup so far when he got the upset win over Kenny Omega in the first round.

And that’s what Ishii does best. When put in a position to shine, Ishii never fails. It’s not often that Tomohiro Ishii gets to main event shows for New Japan, though it does happen from time to time. But it should happen more, because when he’s not in the main event, he’s probably outshining it, like he did in his five star match against Okada in the 2016 G-1.

Ishii is an enigma, and not the Jeff Hardy kind. He’s an actual enigma. He’s short, his physique’s not great, he’s over forty, but his mind for designing matches and his selling is beyond reproach. For those not too familiar with his body of work, go back and look at his series of matches with Naito and Honma, and his singles matches with Okada, Nakamura, Shibata, and Tanahashi.

Yes, those are all amazing wrestlers in their own right, but the common factor in many of their best matches is Tomohiro Ishii, and that’s why he’s my favorite wrestler this week, and always.

Austin Aries

By Jeremy Peeples

Austin Aries went from being a commentator who shined brightly on Raw by actually having a personality — and an impressive package of innuendo each week — to the lead face of the cruiserweight division.

While 205 Live is seemingly doomed, Aries remains one of the few cruiserweight acts on Raw who feels like he has some genuine upward momentum out of the division if they so choose. He could easily mix it up in the United States title picture later this year, and he’s already shown that he can get a move over as a killer quickly by shifting from the Last Chancery to the rolling elbow on the main roster. It’s a more visually-impressive move anyway, and gives him the feel of someone who can be a physical threat.

Christopher Daniels

By Ryan Frederick

Christopher Daniels has had a long and entertaining career spanning over 20 years and throughout a plethora of promotions, most notably TNA and Ring of Honor. He’s held several championships in several promotions, but one thing had eluded him during his career. He had never been a World Champion in a major promotion.

That changed this past weekend when he won the ROH World Championship by defeating Adam Cole at the ROH 15th Anniversary pay-per-view. It came full circle for Daniels, who competed on the first-ever ROH event, and now 15 years later, he has his first World title at 47 years old. For that, I salute you Mr. Daniels. You’re my favorite wrestler this week.

AJ Styles

In all honesty, AJ Styles could, and maybe should, be my pick every single week. But this week he did something I never thought was possible. He made me excited about a Shane McMahon match at WrestleMania.

Granted I’m not over the moon about seeing Shane throw his corny, child-like body punches at the best wrestler on the planet, but I am fascinated to see how we get there. When I first heard about the proposed match, my eyes rolled so hard my neighbors across the street heard it. Now? Consider me actually excited.

I’m excited after SmackDown this week, where AJ became probably the most fleshed out, well rounded, and fully realized character on either brand. AJ’s attack on Shane and confrontation with Daniel Bryan completed the transformation from someone who was unhappy with management, to someone that’s been pushed past their breaking point and snapped.

The only question with AJ pre-WWE was if his mic/character work can hold up — and that question has been asked and answered. The next few weeks should be great, and I have the feeling I’ll be struggling to write up a non-AJ Styles piece between now and WrestleMania.

Kota Ibushi

By Alan Boon

My favorite wrestler this week is Kota Ibushi. Since his dual contract with New Japan and DDT ran out, he’s spent the last year and a half doing pretty much exactly what he wants, which has so far included taking part in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, flying to Texas to fight Kaiju Big Battel’s Dr. Cube, piledriving a man into a toilet, and opening the mysterious — and possibly fictional — Ibushi Wrestling Research Institute.

This past weekend saw him come to the UK for the first time, to be hosted by the XWA, and he brought his best friend — and fellow DDT oddball — Gota Ihashi with him. They fought each other on Saturday night, on a family-friendly show in Colchester, and wowed the mostly unfamiliar crowd with a spectacle that included a bicycle (which was eventually driven into Ihashi’s face), an impromptu boxing match, and an array of dazzling aerial moves.

The next day, the pair moved on to the Resistance Gallery in Bethnal Green, where they teamed to take on the equally-unhinged Jimmy Havoc & Cara Noir, in a fight that spilled out of the tiny venue and onto the streets of east London, involving Havoc’s car and some fireworks. That’s actual fireworks, which Ibushi aimed at his enemies, his pal, the fans, the sky, a passing train, and lastly himself, before moonsaulting off the car onto Havoc and Noir.

With contract offers on the table from New Japan and WWE pretty much whenever he wants them, Ibushi is instead pushing the boundaries of wrestling, becoming the physical embodiment of wrestling research, his own institute. We don’t deserve him.

“DER RING GENERAL” WALTER

By Alan Counihan

My God……MY GOD!!!!!!

Two Match of the Year candidates, two other GREAT tournament matches and the best two-minute shoot style match that wasn’t Vader vs. Nakano from UWFI. All in a weekend’s work for WALTER.

Not only that, but while WALTER the wrestler is absolutely tearing the house down in the ring, Walter the man is a major part of running one of the most successful weekends of European wrestling ever. And he took it all in his stride. The guy was so calm and relaxed at 16 Carat, but every time he got into the ring, he TORE THE HOUSE DOWN!!!

The final against Ilja Dragunov is the greatest live experience of my life (wrestling or any other form of entertainment) and I was lucky enough to call the action from the best seat in the house. WALTER was an absolute savage in it and the story they told was perfect. I wrote more about the match in this week’s F4W, so check that out if you can.

David Starr, Marius Al Ani, Jeff Cobb, Matt Riddle, and Ilja Dragunov all stood opposite “Der Ring General” in Oberhausen last week, and they all came out of their matches looking incredible. WALTER makes guys look fantastic, but boy does he make them earn it! Ilja’s chest at the end of their match was a sight to behold.

WALTER’s performance last weekend was every bit as special as Kenny Omega’s on G1 finals weekend last year. He was THAT good.

ROH 15th Anniversary live results: Adam Cole vs. Christopher Daniels

Preview by Bryan Rose

Ring of Honor is live on pay-per-view tonight as the promotion’s 15th Anniversary show takes place at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas, Nevada.

We’re looking for your thoughts on this show as well as the New Japan Cup day one, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]

The main event will have current ROH World Champion Adam Cole defending his title against Christopher Daniels, who has been affiliated with the promotion off and on since its inception in 2002. Having never won the championship before, this may be Daniels’ last shot at ROH’s top prize.

Elsewhere on the card, the Television title will be decided as champion Marty Scurll defends against Lio Rush. The ROH Six-Man tag titles will be on the line as the new Kingdom (Matt Taven, TK O’Ryan & Vinny Marseglia) defend their titles against Dalton Castle & The Boys.

For the first time since winning the ROH Tag Team Championship, Matt & Jeff Hardy will defend against both The Young Bucks and Roppongi Vice in a triple threat Vegas street fight. Bully Ray will also make his debut in a six-man bout, teaming with The Briscoes against Davey Boy Smith Jr. & War Machine.

**********

The show is openeing with a Christopher Daniels and Adam Cole dueling promo package.  Daniels was one of the most underrated promos of last year and Cole is a great promo on his own.  So this was a strong package.

Keivn Kelly is back as an announcer with Ian Riccobani and Colt Cabana, but Ian is the lead announcer,

JAY WHITE PINNED KENNY KING

The match started out a little rough, but it turned into a good match. Both did dives and there were a lot of big moves at the end. The finish saw a crossbody off the top, but King did a John Cena by rolling through and putting him on his shoulders. Instead of doing the Attitude Adjustment, White took him down with an inside cradle for the pin. King kicked out right after three.

The Bullet Club (Young Bucks, Frankie Kazarian and Adam Page) did a promo with Kazarian, talking about how Kazarian turned on Christopher Daniels.

FRANKIE KAZARIAN EARNED A TV TITLE SHOT IN A SIX-WAY OVER ADAM PAGE, CHRIS SABIN, PUNISHER MARTINEZ, CHESEBURGER AND SILAS YOUNG

This was one move after another for ten minutes, and was real crisp. Young looked really good in particular but everyone really did their jobs. If you like moves, this was really good, bujt it was just that. They built the match up for Cheesburger hitting the shote taught to him by Jushin Liger.  Once he did that, however, Kazarian pinned him with the Ace of Spades.

JAY LETHAL PINNED BOBBY FISH

This was a hell of a match that was very Japanese style with the pacing. This came off like a fight as Fish used leg submissions, but Lethal would get to the ropes.  Lethal went for the Lethal Injection, Fish sidestepped and hit body punches and kicks, but after a missed kick, Lethal hit the Lethal Injection for the pin.

ROH SIX-MAN TAG CHAMPIONS THE KINGDOM (MATT TAVEN & VINNY MARSEGLIA & TK O’RYAN) DEFEATED DALTON CASTLE & THE BOYS TO RETAIN

The Kingdom retained when Taven used a power bomb on Boy 1 with help from Marseglia. Unfortunately, O’Ryan may have been seriously hurt as he did an Asai moonsault and it looked like his ankle cracked on the guardrail. He had to be carried out and they went right to the finish. Up until that, the match was really good.  The Boys were great (seriously) and Castle has all the charisma in the world.

TV CHAMPION MARTY SCURLL SUBMITTED LIO RUSH TO RETAIN

This match was great. Scurll is one of the best in the world, and maybe the most underrated in the business.  There were a lot of great near falls and unique spots, but there were a couple of spots that were weird. The big moves were Rush kicking out of a piledriver and Scurll kicking out of a splash off the top. The finish saw Scurll go for the chicken wing, throw a ton of elbows to the head, tear off the kiniseo tape on Rush’s shoulder, and use the chicken wing for the submission.

THE BRISCOES & BULLY RAY DEFEATED DAVEY BOY SMITH JR. & WAR MACHINE

This was another great match. The finish was a 3-D as the Briscoes threw Rowe in the air and Bully did the cutter. After the match, Smith Jr. didn’t get along with War Machine and argued after losing. They blamed Smith and there was a pull-apart with Smith throwing security everywhere. The Briscoes worked most of the way and were at their best. This was all action from start to finish with lots of big moves and saves. They pushed Briscoes & Bully as contenders for the Trios titles.

ROH TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS THE HARDYS DEFEATED THE YOUNG BUCKS AND ROCKY ROMERO & TRENT BARETTA IN A STREET FIGHT TO RETAIN THE TITLES

Kevin Kelly said the Bucks have no belts left but the Superkick belts, but actually, they still have the PWG belts. The Hardys were called Matt & Jeff (not Broken Matt or Brother Nero) and they didn’t use their music so the legal threats probably made a difference.

This match was total insanity that ended when Jeff Hardy pinned Baretta after a flip over the top of a ladder into a swanton through a table. They used thumbtacks including a Meltzer Driver on Baretta onto thumbtacks. Matt also put thumbtacks into Baretta’s mouth and Nick superkicked him with the thumbtacks flying everywhere. There was a twist of fate onto thumbtacks.

Romero put a sleeve on his forearm with thumbtacks and did a forever clothesline on everyone. Bucks vs. Baretta & Romero stuff was great, and the Hardys did all their spots.  Matt did the gimmick to a degree but they did nothing to encourage chants of “delete” or “obsolete”, but the fans did them anyway. The Hardys stole the Superkick belts as well.

CHRISTOPER DANIELS DEFEATED ADAM COLE FOR THE ROH CHAMPIONSHIP

Daniels did another super promo before the match. There was maybe a little too much crying, but the emotion and storytelling was great. Basically, he was crying that he had to win, this was his last chance, and that if he doesn’t win, he’ll never win the title after 24 years in the business.

Well, Daniels won the title when Kazarian turned on Cole.

They did a ref bump and Cole used a low blow. Kazarian came in and held Daniels while Cole went for a belt shot. Daniels broke free and Cole held up rather than hit Kazarian. Kazarian then asked for the belt. I thought for sure he was hitting Cole, but instead he just threw the belt out of the ring. Cole was shocked.

Daniels made a comeback, and Kazarian tore off his t-shirt to reveal a Destiny t-shirt. Daniels used a uranage and three BMEs to get the pin. Daniels bled from being kicked into the post very early in the match. The match took a while to fully develop, but turned into a really good match although it was tough to follow the previous match.

After the win, all the faces (White, War Mahcine, Cheeseburger, Rush, Mandy Leon and tons of others) were in the ring for a post-match celebration.

ROH TV results: 15th Anniversary go-home show

Ring of Honor television from this past week was the go-home show ahead of tonight’s 15th Anniversary pay-per-view. The main development heading into the PPV was the heel turn of Frankie Kazarian, where he joined the Bullet Club in the aftermath of this show’s main event eight-man tag match.

The show opened with a promo from one team involved in the main event later on. The Briscoes, Jay Lethal, and Bobby Fish hyped their eight-man tag match with the Bullet Club.

They took turns insulting their opponents.

Dalton Castle provided guest commentary for the first match alongside Ian Riccaboni. In storyline, Castle and his Boys have issues to settle with The Kingdom and they face them on the PPV tonight for the World Six-Man Championship.

World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Kingdom defeated The Rebellion to retain their titles

TK O’Ryan and Rhett Titus had a hair pulling contest at the outset, followed by comedy spots with Caprice Coleman and Vinny Marseglia. Matt Taven and Kenny King then started having a wrestling match.

Though the match was originally heels against heels, Titus left the match selling an injury to his knee. That left The Kingdom with a three-on-two advantage, seemingly making The Rebellion the de facto babyfaces. Thusly, The Kingdom worked over Coleman for the heat.

Coleman made a comeback and tried to tag out, but King was knocked off the apron and unable to tag. Suddenly, Lio Rush hit the ring dressed in camouflage gear. The Rebellion previously tried to recruit him for their stable. Here he looked to have joined them, or did he?

Rush ran wild off a hot tag, only to turn on The Rebellion when he dropped King with a cutter. The Kingdom executed a triple-team powerbomb and Taven covered King for the pinfall.

In a pre-taped promo, Jay White challenged Jay Briscoe to a rematch after their last bout ended in a draw. On another pre-taped promo with Briscoe in Sandy Fork, he accepted the challenge for a match that airs on TV in two weeks.

Brian Milonas defeated Raphael King (w/ Devyn Nicole) to advance in the Top Prospect Tournament

Brutal Bob Evans was back for guest commentary as he does on every match in this tourney. They had a slugfest at the outset, then King got to shine briefly before being cut off. King made a quick comeback and used a Rock Bottom for a near fall.

When he attempted a second Rock Bottom, Milonas blocked it and dropped King with a sidewalk slam, followed by a senton to cover him for the pin.

Christopher Daniels provided guest commentary for the main event, setting the stage for the angle that closed the show.

Adam Cole, Cody & The Young Bucks defeated Jay Lethal, Bobby Fish & The Briscoes

The action got wild from the start when a huge brawl erupted with dives all over the place. After the ring emptied, Cody squared off with Lethal in the ring since they have an ongoing feud.

Fish and Cole squared off next as they also have ongoing issues. The Young Bucks and Briscoes then squared off since those two teams have been battling each other. At first the Briscoes appeared to block superkicks, only for both to eat superkicks from Nick and Matt Jackson. Lethal hit the ring and attempted the Lethal Injection, but the Jacksons superkicked him.

With an ode to Kenny Omega, Nick and Matt Jackson did the Rise of the Terminator spot leading to them doing flip dives to the outside. That led to Jay Briscoe doing a tope con hilo to the outside, then his brother Mark followed with a blockbuster off the apron. Mark also climbed to the top turnbuckle, but Cody cut him off and superplexed him to the floor onto a pile of bodies.

Back in the ring, Bullet Club got heat on Mark Briscoe. That built to a hot tag that brought Lethal in like a house of fire, leading to a trifecta of topes. On the third tope, Lethal inadvertently hit Fish and that caused dissension between the two tag partners.

The dissension led to a shoving match, then a brawl between Fish and Lethal. They brawled around the building, leaving the two Briscoes to face the four members of the Bullet Club. They fought valiantly and were able to single out Matt Jackson.

The Briscoes went for the Doomsday Device, but Jackson landed on his feet to superkick them. A superkick party began and Jay Briscoe fell victim to Cross Rhodes. Cole executed the Last Shot on Mark Briscoe as the Jacksons also superkicked Mark. The Young Bucks finished off Mark with the Meltzer Driver and Matt pinned him.

In the aftermath, the dust settled and Cole was in the ring gloating over the victory while holding his ROH World title overhead. Christopher Daniels left his perch at the commentary table to rush the ring and sneak up behind Cole. They began to slug it out and Daniels hoisted Cole to deliver Angel’s Wings.

Daniels retrieved hair clippers and a pair of scissors, threatening to cut Cole’s long locks. Cole tried to fight back and Daniels delivered Angel’s Wings again. Daniels’ tag team partner, Frankie Kazarian, hit the ring to seemingly assist in giving Cole a hair cut.

Kazarian removed his hoodie to reveal a Bullet Club t-shirt. Kazarian faced off with Daniels. The distraction allowed for The Young Bucks to superkick Daniels. The rest of Bullet Club surrounded a prone Daniels to welcome Kazarian as their newest member.

On the next episode of ROH TV, War Machine faces BJ Whitmer & Punisher Martinez in a no DQ match.

The latest episode begins airing this weekend in syndication. The show is then available Monday evening via the FITE TV app before airing on Wednesday at midnight ET on Comet TV, including that channel’s online live stream. The episode is then available to watch on Thursday via the official ROH website.

ROH TV results: Marty Scurll defends against Donovan Dijak

The latest episode of Ring of Honor television continued the build to ROH’s 15th Anniversary with the first episode from the most recent TV tapings at Stage AE in Pittsburgh.

Though not part of any storyline, the show featured the departure of Donovan Dijak as he finishes up with ROH by putting over World TV Champion Marty Scurll in the main event. Also on this episode, dissension emerged between The Addiction. In addition, the annual Top Prospect Tournament began with a first round match.

The show began airing in syndication this past weekend before becoming available this week via streaming platforms like the FITE TV app and the official ROH website. The episode also airs this Wednesday at midnight ET on Comet TV, including on their free internet live stream.

Bryan and Vinny also review the episode on the latest edition of the B&V Show available to our subscribers.

Ian Riccaboni took over the duty of lead announcer on this show after the recent departure of Kevin Kelly. Continuing the theme of a rotating cast of guest announcers, Bobby Fish joined Riccaboni on commentary for the first segment.

Fish did guest commentary for one match, then he cut a promo hyping his match this weekend where he challenges Adam Cole for the ROH World Championship on a show dubbed “Manhattan Mayhem VI” at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York.

Manhattan Mayhem was heavily plugged throughout the episode, continuing a trend this year of ROH using their TV show to promote their house shows more so than ever before.

The show itself opened with a video package devoted to Christopher Daniels. Now the top contender after winning the Decade of Excellence tournament, he challenges for the ROH World title in the main event of the next pay-per-view.

The story is the aging veteran, still as talented as ever, on a quest for an elusive World title that culminates at 15th Anniversary in Las Vegas on PPV with Daniels vowing to finally realize his destiny.

Daniels would also start the show with a promo in the ring clearly playing a babyface role. He pondered who would be champion when he challenges for the title.

Adam Cole interrupted to say he would be the champion forever. Daniels took off his jacket, signaling that he wanted to fight. Cole assured him there would be a match.

Hangman Page hit the the ring for a sneak attack. Frankie Kazarian made the save for Daniels and a tag match would soon begin as Kazarian challenged the Bullet Club. Fish on commentary was critical of Kazarian and questioned his motives, foreshadowing the seeds of dissension planted within The Addiction as their story unfolds.

Adam Cole & Hangman Page defeated Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian

Daniels shined early on, then sold during much of the match for the heat. After a hot tag, Kazarian cleaned house and ran wild leading to a slingshot cutter on Cole for a near fall. Daniels tagged back in as The Addiction did a double-team powerbomb for another near fall. Daniels and Cole had a slugfest before Cole signaled for a superkick.

Daniels blocked the kick and set up Cole for the Best Moonsault Ever. Daniels springboarded into a moonsault only for Cole to counter by getting a boot up. Cole rolled up Daniels for the pinfall.

Kazarian yelled at Daniels afterwards, angry over them losing. In a backstage skit, Kazarian yelled at Daniels again and stormed off.

John Skyler defeated Sean Carr to advance in the Top Prospect Tournament

Brutal Bob Evans provided guest commentary for this match, which was the first in the tournament. Both participants introduced themselves in pre-taped promos.

Carr got to shine at the outset before Skyler cut him off with a lariat and a Tiger Driver for a near fall. Carr made a comeback, leading to a dive through the ropes to the outside.

They fought on the apron and Skyler speared Carr. Skyler dove through the ropes for another spear and a near fall. Carr got a hope spot in the closing moments. He leapt off the middle rope to deliver a codebreaker, and also a moonsault.

Perched on the top turnbuckle, Skyler jumped off the ropes into a rolling fireman’s carry slam to finish off Carr and cover him for the pin. Skyler advances past the first round.

In an odd segment, The Tempura Boyz were supposed to wrestle the Motor City Machine Guns, but MCMG were apparently attacked backstage. Everybody seemed confused and the show quickly cut to commercial.

Before the main event, a rundown plugged the card for Manhattan Mayhem this weekend. The lineup for the March 4th show is here.

ROH World TV Champion Marty Scurll defeated Donovan Dijak to retain his title

Dijak offered to shake hands with Scurll for the traditional pre-match Code of Honor. Scurll kicked away Dijak’s hand. At the bell, Scurll charged in and ate a kick from Dijak.

Scurll bailed out of the ring and Dijak flew over the ropes with a wild flip dive to the floor. Dijak followed by springboarding back into the ring with a flying elbow drop. Dijak did a somersault senton and sprung off the middle rope into a splash.

They had a series of counters leading to Scurll posting Dijak. Scurll then delivered a tornado DDT on the floor. Scurll seemingly had the advantage. Suddenly, Dijak did a backflip off the apron and demanded a hand shake. Scurll cut him down with a kick.

Dijak eventually made a comeback when he reversed a suplex. He ragdolled Scurll and went on the attack. Scurll countered only to end up hoisted by Dijak for a sit-out powerbomb.

Before going to commercial, Lio Rush appeared on the stage to scout Scurll for their upcoming title match at 15th Anniversary.

After the break, Scurll and Dijak were exchanging strikes and countering each other. Scurll delivered a brainbuster for a near fall. Scurll signaled for his finishing hold, but Dijak countered. Scurll then also countered into a victory roll for a two count. After hitting several superkicks, Scurll used a piledriver and Dijak kicked out.

Scurll went for his finishing hold again, but Dijak escaped to pick up Scurll and deliver Feast Your Eyes. On the subsequent pin attempt, Scurll kicked out of Dijak’s finisher. Dijak again demanded Scurll shake his hand. Scurll grabbed Dijak’s fingers and snapped them instead. Scurll started landing strikes, only to fall victim to a Choke Breaker from Dijak.

Dijak leapt to the top rope and springboarded into a corkscrew moonsault. Scurll moved out of the way and soon applied the crossface chicken wing. Dijak tapped out and Scurll retained via submission.

Afterwards, Lio Rush got in the ring to have a face-to-face staredown with Scurll, who hit Rush with a belt shot. Still trying to recruit Rush into their stable, The Rebellion ran in to save Rush from a beatdown. Scurll bailed and scattered. MCMG also appeared out of nowhere to glare at The Rebellion. Did they attack them earlier? Only time will tell.

On the next episode of ROH TV, the Briscoes team with Bobby Fish & Jay Lethal for an eight-man tag match against Bullet Club members The Young Bucks, Adam Cole & Cody (Rhodes).

World title match set for ROH’s first PPV of 2017

Adam Cole, or whoever is Ring of Honor champion, facing Christopher Daniels for the championship will be the main event of the company’s first PPV of the year, the 15th anniversary event on March 10th in Las Vegas.

The show will take place at Sam’s Town.

Daniels was the winner of the Decade of Excellence tournament, which featured eight wrestlers who had started with the company over 10 years ago. At the television tapings on Saturday night in Atlanta, he defeated Jay Briscoe in the tournament final after Briscoe had beaten Jay Lethal in the semifinals.

Daniels had already won his semifinal match over Chris Sabin at the December 4th tapings in Philadelphia.

Last year, in the build to Ladder Wars, Daniels did some tremendous interviews talking about how his career is nearly over and that if he lost the tag team title, which he did that night, that it may be the end of his career. The match, which may have been the craziest major promotion match in the U.S. of last year as far as stunts went, saw Daniels stand out with an incredible performance in losing.

Daniels headlined the first ROH show ever in 2002, and has never been ROH champion, which is likely to play into the storyline.

The winner of the Anniversary show match will then defend the title against Dalton Castle on the April 1st show in Lakeland, Florida, which is the WrestleMania weekend show, although Lakeland is a fairly decent drive from Orlando.

Will Ospreay, Marty Scurll, and Cody (Rhodes), besides the regulars, will be appearing on the Lakeland show, which will also include first-time appearances of wrestlers from CMLL and New Japan.
