UFC on ESPN+ 50 live results: Anthony Smith vs. Ryan Spann

UFC action returns after a week off with a busy fight card that has fifteen fights on it, headlined by a light heavyweight battle between a former title challenger and a rising contender.

Former light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith looks to continue his push back towards a title shot as he puts his two-fight win streak on the line against rising contender Ryan Spann, who is 9-1 over his last ten fights. Smith is coming off a win over Jimmy Crute at UFC 261 in April, while Spann was last seen knocking out Misha Cirkunov in March.

Also on the main card is a light heavyweight slugfest between Ion Cutelaba and Devin Clark, rising lightweight prospect Arman Tsarukyan battles Christos Giagos, and viral sensation Joaquin Buckley kicks off the main card against Antonio Arroyo in middleweight action.

Women’s Flyweights

Goldy landing leg kicks to start the fight. Whitmire lands the jab. Goldy with a combo. They clinch against the fence and Whitmire gets a trip takedown and is on top by the fence. She backs off and lands a kick then lands a punch as she goes back into the guard of Goldy. Goldy gets an upkick in as they get up and clinch back against the fence. Whitmire gets another takedown and lands from the top as she passes to half-guard. Whitmire gets back into the guard for a moment but Goldy creates space to scramble but Whitmire grabs the back and looks for a rear-naked choke but Goldy escapes and Whitmire is back in her guard. Whitmire stands and Goldy with another upkick. Whitmire gets back into Goldy’s guard. Goldy going for an armbar. She has it locked in and Whitmire verbally taps and it is over! Goldy gets the submission out of nowhere.

> Gustavo Lopez (12-6, 1-2 UFC) vs. Alateng Heili (14-8-1, 2-1 UFC)
Bantamweights

Both throw early but neither able to connect. Heili lands a right hand and they clinch against the fence. Heili with a knee before they break. Both still looking for openings. Heili lands a right hand. They trade and Lopez lands a big flurry and goes for a takedown but Heili defends and they break. Heili landed some nice shots as well. Lopez lands a hard calf kick. They trade in close range and Lopez with a left hook. Heili lands a right hand. Heili lands a combo. They trade. Lopez has a cut opened near his left eye. They trade late. Close round. 10-9 Heili.

Lopez starts the second off with a calf kick. He lands another. Lopez back up constantly but lands another leg kick. Heili with a leg kick. Lopez with another calf kick. They trade jabs. Heili lands a right hand. Heili lands another right hand as they’re both looking for openings. Lopez lands the jab. Lopez briefly gets the fight to the mat but Heili sprawls to the feet. Lopez with a leg kick. Another close round. 10-9 Heili, 20-18 Heili.

Heili with a combo to the body to start off the third. Heili lands a right hand. Heili lands a big right hand. Both are being tentative and not taking a lot of chances. Lopez lands a right hand and Heili lands a counter left hook. Lopez with a leg kick. They trade and both are landing and Lopez is landing some good punches as he has Heili on the retreat. They both stumble to the mat and Lopez gets the back as they get up. Heili grabbed the fence for a moment. Lopez trying for the takedown and Heili obviously grabs the fence multiple times and we have a timeout and a point deduction for Heili. They get back to action with Lopez on the back and he is looking for a choke. Lopez then starts landing punches and then they scramble up and break. Heili shoots for the takedown but Lopez defends and grabs the neck looking for a guillotine. Heili trying to fight out and does. Lopez lands an upkick as they get up. Heili lands a right hand and Lopez stumbles but the fight goes the distance. 10-8 Lopez with the point deduction, 28-28 DRAW.

> Impa Kasanganay (9-1, 2-1 UFC) vs. Carlston Harris (16-4, 1-0 UFC)
Welterweights

Kasanganay lands a head kick and a combo early as Harris was throwing. They both swing and miss and Harris is able to get the clinch against the fence. They break. Harris lands some leg kicks. They trade some good punches. Harris lands a right hand. Harris with a body kick. They trade punches. They trade and Harris rocks Kasanganay. Harris then lands again and Kasanganay and Harris is landing punches from the back and it is stopped! What a finish by Harris.

Women’s Flyweights

Blanchfield is making her UFC debut. Alpar throwing first and lands a left hand. Alpar lands a low kick. They trade in close range. Both landing punches near the fence. Blanchfield with a body kick. Blanchfield lands a flurry and Alpar was in brief trouble. They clinch and Blanchfield with an elbow. They break and Blanchfield with a left hand before they clinch back up. They break and Blanchfield with a combo. Blanchfield landing. Alpar lands a left hand. Both landing in close range by the fence. Blanchfield with a combo. Blanchfield has showed non-stop pressure. Blanchfield gets a takedown and is on top and just swarming with punches. Alpar giving up her back and Blanchfield landing punches and elbows. Alpar lands an elbow that did hurt Blanchfield for a second. Blanchfield gets a takedown and is landing and is looking to take the back. Blanchfield landing some hard punches from the top. Blanchfield moves to side control and then gets the mount at the end and is landing big punches to end the fight. Bantamweights

Buys goes for a takedown but Jackson easily defends. Buys shoots again and is able to complete it. Buys moves to the mount. Buys gets the back and is looking for a choke. He has an arm under the chin. Buys lets go. Jackson gets to his feet and shakes Buys off and Jackson gets on top. They stand and Jackson has a standing guillotine locked in. He lets go and pushes Buys to the mat and lands some punches. They get up and scramble back down as Jackson has body control. Buys lands some left hands. Jackson landing punches from the back as they stand. Both guys land punches and then Buys goes for a guillotine but Jackson defending. Jackson gets out and they get to their feet and Jackson has the back as the round ends. Close, interesting round. 10-9 Jackson.

Jackson lands a combo and then a left hand and Buys goes down and Jackson hops on top. Jackson lands some punches as he gets up and Buys went for the leg. They clinch up and Buys grabs the neck and jumps up and Jackson carries him to his corner. They go to the mat and Buys looking for the guillotine. He lets go and now is looking for an arm. He lets go and Jackson has control. They get to their feet and Jackson has back control and lands a couple of knees. They separate. Jackson lands a right hand and Buys goes down again and Jackson lets him up. Buys goes for a takedown but Jackson defends. Jackson lands a left hand. Jackson gets a takedown. He has the back as the round ends. 10-9 Jackson, 20-18 Jackson.

Jackson lands a nice combo. Jackson drops Buys again with a left hand and then gets on top looking for the finish. He gets up and lets Buys up. They clinch and Jackson lands a knee to the groin and we have a timeout. They get back to action. Jackson then lands another left hand and Buys falls to the butt and Jackson lets him up. Jackson gets a takedown and is in the guard. Neither doing much on the ground. Buys looking for the arm. Jackson just landing short body punches. Jackson ends on top. 10-8 Jackson, 30-26 Jackson.

Lightweights* (Zhu missed weight by 2.5 pounds)

Jenkins took this fight on Wednesday. Jenkins lands some leg kicks early. Jenkins with another leg kick. Zhu lands a leg kick. We have a groin strike and a timeout but they quickly get back to action. They trade punches. Zhu with a leg kick. They continue to trade and Jenkins landing the leg kicks while Zhu landing better punches. Zhu lands a hard right hand. Jenkins with a leg kick. They trade jabs and Jenkins with a leg kick. Zhu lands a combo. Zhu lands a right hand as Jenkins was throwing a spin kick and Jenkins falls to the mat. Zhu gets in the guard and lands and then gets the back. Zhu almost had a choke locked in but Jenkins moved out and Zhu had full mount for a moment. Zhu then gets the back again. Zhu with a big elbow late. 10-9 Zhu.

Zhu landing a combo early and Jenkins is on the run. Zhu lands a high kick and they clinch and Zhu gets Jenkins down for a second. They stand and Zhu has the back. Zhu has the back as he’s dragging Jenkins around trying to complete the takedown. He finally gets it and is in the guard of Jenkins. Zhu with some elbows from the top. Zhu in complete control on the mat. Zhu lands some punches as he’s trying to get the back. Zhu got the mount for a second but they scrambled and Zhu gets it back down and gets the mount next to the fence. Jenkins reverses and they stand and Jenkins lands a knee. They trade to start the third as both land punches and leg kicks. Jenkins throws a head kick but Zhu blocks it. Jenkins throws a spinning back fist but is off-balance and Zhu gets a takedown. They get up and Zhu gets another takedown and has the back. Zhu still has the back on the mat and now has control. Zhu still has back control and is landing punches. Zhu moves to the guard and lands some shots from the top. Zhu landing big punches and Jenkins is in lots of trouble. Zhu has the back and lands a big punch and it is stopped. Zhu with an impressive win.

Women’s Bantamweights

Pennington is fighting for the first time in over a year. They quickly clinch against the fence as Pennington has the advantage. Kianzad reverses and lands a knee to the body. Pennington reverses and Kianzad reverses back. Kianzad gets Pennington down for a brief second. They remain tied up and Kianzad has the body. Pennington with a back elbow. Kianzad staying busy and lands a knee. Pennington with a knee. They trade elbows. Kianzad with some nice knees. Kianzad lands a combo against the fence. Pennington reverses and lands some body shots. They break but Pennington goes straight back into the clinch. They battle in the clinch until the end. 10-9 Kianzad.

They clinch right away and Pennington lands a knee. They trade punches in the clinch. Pennington lands a combo and then they clinch right back up. Pennington lands an elbow. Pennington with some body shots. Pennington with a leg kick. She lands some punches before they clinch again. Pennington gets Kianzad to the mat. Kianzad throws some hammerfists from the bottom as Pennington has guard control. Pennington gets the back. Pennington active from the back and they has clinch control as they stand late. Kianzad with some knees late as Pennington lands a right hand. 10-9 Pennington, 19-19.

They clinch right away again. Both landing to the body against the fence before they break. Pennington lands a combo before they clinch right back up. They switch positions. They break and Pennington lands some punches before clinching back up and Kianzad looked for a standing guillotine but Pennington gets out. Kianzad lands some knees then an elbow and then lands a combo as they break. Pennington shoots for the takedown but they just clinch. They break. Pennington with a front kick. Pennington lands a leg kick and Kianzad lands some right hands. They clinch and Kianzad lands some knees. Pennington lands a flurry of punches at the end. Gravely gets a takedown but Maness scrambling up. Gravely has the neck. They break and Maness gets a takedown and lands some punches as they stand and break. They clinch against the fence. Both landing some body shots before they break. Maness lands a right hand. Gravely shoots for a takedown but Maness defends against the fence. They break. Gravely drops Maness late with a right hand and was landing punches as the round ends. 10-9 Gravely.

That was a great comeback because he was done at the end of the first.

Giagos lands early as Tsarukyan throws a combo. They scramble to the mat and Giagos ends up on top and lands a short left. Giagos lands a knee to the body as they work to their feet. They break. Tsarukyan then drops Giagos with a left hook and swarms on top and lands tons of punches until Herb Dean finally stops it. What a finish by Tsarukyan.

Bohm is making her UFC debut. Bohm lands a leg kick. Lipski lands a combo. They trade and Bohm went for a takedown but Lipski ends up on top. Lipski in the full guard of Bohm. Lipski staying on top but not much happening. Lipski with an elbow before they scramble up. Bohm with a body kick. Lipski with a head kick then follows it with a right hand and a combo against the fence. They clinch. They break. Lipski lands a right hand. They trade late. 10-9 Lipski.

Neither landing to start out the second. Lipski lands a right hand. Lipski with a high kick and then lands an overhand right. Lipski with a leg kick. Bohm with a leg kick and a left hand. Both still looking to land butneither able to. Bohm lands a kick but looks to have possibly hurt her foot in doing so. They clinch and trade knees to the body. Lipski lands a nice right hand. Lipski rocks Bohm with a punch and Bohm falls to the mat and Lipski gets on top and is looking to finish. Lipski gets in the guard and Bohm is holding on. They get back to their feet. Bohm tries a weak takedown attempt but Lipski grabs the neck and ends up in the half-guard of Bohm. Bohm is just hanging on to the bell. They get up and Lipski with a combo. Clark with a leg kick. Cutelaba then drops Clark with a right hand right behind the ear and Cutelaba gets on top and is landing. Cutelaba with an elbow but Clark gets up. Cutelaba has his back. Cutelaba gets a takedown and is landing left hands. Clark gets to his feet as Cutelaba retains back control. Cutelaba gets the fight back down and is landing right hands. Smith lands a right hand and then drops Spann with a counter shot and gets on top. He has the neck and is trying to find a choke. Smith then moves for an armbar but Spann escapes and lands a knee to the chest on the ground. They get up and Spann grabbed the fence. They break and both land. Spann with the jab. Smith lands a left hook and Spann is still on wobbly legs. Smith then drops Spann again with a right hand. Spann tries to grab the leg. Smith working to the back. Smith trying to flatten Spann out. He does and is now working for a choke and has it locked in and Spann taps! What a fun round as Smith picks up his third straight win.

The Octagon remains in Las Vegas as UFC action keeps going during the pandemic, this week with a light heavyweight main event featuring a former title challenger, plus a co-main event with the return of a former champion.

Former title challenger Anthony Smith will be looking to get back into the win column when he takes on Aleksandar Rakic in the headline bout. This fight will only be a three-round main event after the original main event for this show was cancelled. Smith is facing a quick turnaround after a brutal loss to Glover Teixeira in May while Rakic makes his first Octagon appearance of 2020.

In the co-main event, former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler returns on short notice, fighting for the first time in over a year, as he looks to end a three-fight skid against Neil Magny, winner of two straight. Also on the main card is the debut of Alexa Grasso at 125 pounds as she takes on Ji Yeon Kim and former title challenger Ricardo Lamas welcomes short-notice replacement Bill Algeo to the UFC.

They both come out swinging and Whitmire lands some inside leg kicks. Viana lands a nice right hand. Whitmire able to get a takedown and is in side control. She moves to full guard and Viana lands some elbows from the guard. They start scrambling and Viana is able to grab an arm and lock in an armbar and Whitmire screams tap. What a slick finish by Viana to pick up the win.

Brady with a big body kick and follows it with a left hand and then a leg kick. Aguilera with a leg kick. Brady with another nice leg kick and they trade punches. Brady with a left hook as Aguilera rushes in and then lands a leg kick. Brady with a combo as Aguilera has a cut open around his right eye. Brady with a hard leg kick and Aguilera counters with a hard right hand. Brady lands a left hand and rushes in scoring a takedown. Brady with control from the top as he lands to end the round. 10-9 Brady.

Brady starts with a leg kick followed by a left hand. They trade left hooks. Aguilera lands a leg kick but Brady times it perfectly and turns it into a big takedown. Brady works for a guillotine and has it in and Aguilera is able to fight it off for a moment but Brady gets a mounted guillotine locked in deep and Aguilera is choked out cold and put asleep. What an impressive submission by Brady as he remains undefeated.

Welcome to F4WOnline.com’s live coverage of UFC on ESPN+ 11: Gustafsson vs. Smith, emanating from the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Octagon heads back to Sweden for the first time in two years with a light heavyweight main event featuring the country’s biggest star and the last two men to fall short against Jon Jones.

Former title challengers Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Smith do battle in the night’s five-round main event. Both men are coming off title fight losses to Jones- Gustafsson in December and Smith in March. Gustafsson looks to get back on track in front of his home country fans while Smith looks to score an upset in enemy territory.

Also on the main card is another light heavyweight bout as Jimi Manuwa goes against Aleksander Rakic, as well as a featherweight fight between Makwan Amirkhani and Chris Fishgold.

Alvarez threatens with a triangle late but time runs out. 10-9 Alvarez.

Belluardo with an elbow and Alvarez starts throwing high kicks coming forward and Belluardo is able to take him down. Belluardo passes to half-guard. Alvarez reverses to the top and starts landing lots of punches and Belluardo is in trouble and the referee steps in and stops the fight. Big finish by Alvarez as he gets his first UFC win.

Clark is looking for back control but they end up scrambling to their feet and in the clinch. They trade knees against the fence and break and Clark lands a high kick. Stosic then rocks Clark with a right hand and they clinch again. Stosic then lands an elbow on the break and then Clark rocks Stosic with a spinning elbow. They clinch again. Stosic starts landing big punches as the separate. Stosic with a body kick. 10-9 Clark.

Clark throwing leg kicks. Both men looking to land the jab. Clark shooting for takedowns but Stosic sees them coming and defends. They clinch against the fence. They break and Clark lands some punches. Stosic yelling at Clark as he’s trying to bait him in. Clark looks for a takedown but defended by Stosic. Stosic picks Clark up high in the air. Clark tries to grab the top of the fence to block it but gets warned and Stosic slams him to the mat. Stosic with a right hand from the top and moves to the guard. They stay clinched up as Santana has the body lock and gets another brief takedown but back to their feet. They break. They trade punches. Santana with some leg kicks. They trade punches. 10-9 Santana.

They trade punches. Santana looks for a takedown but Malecki reverses and gets a takedown and is in the mount. Malecki landing punches and Santana gives up the back and Malecki looks for a rear-naked choke but Santana escapes. Malecki still has the back and continues to look for the choke. Malecki gets the choke locked in and Santana taps! Big win in front of the home crowd for Malecki.

The Octagon returns home to Las Vegas with a stacked card featuring two big title fights, the returns of former champions and the much-anticipated UFC debut of one of the biggest UFC signings in a while.

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones makes the quick turnaround as he defends the championship against Anthony Smith in the main event. Jones became the 205-pound champion once again when he defeated Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 in December, and he looks to continue his dominance in the division. Smith looks to score the biggest upset in UFC history, and he comes in with a lot of momentum after winning three straight fights since moving up to 205 pounds, and looking impressive in doing so.

The co-main event sees UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley make his fifth title defense as he defends against Kamaru Usman. Woodley is unbeaten in his last seven fights and is coming off a title defense against Darren Till at UFC 228 in September. Usman has won 13 straight fights and is seen as one of the biggest threats to Woodley at 170 pounds.

Also on the main card is the return of former UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler as he welcomes the debut of Ben Askren, the flashy former NCAA wrestling champion who is undefeated in 19 career fights. In the main card opener, former UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt looks to get back in the win column and into the title picture as he takes on Pedro Munhoz.

The stacked preliminary card airing on ESPN is capped off with a featherweight bout as long-time UFC veteran Jeremy Stephens looks to end the 12-fight win streak of Zabit Magomedshapirov. Also on the prelims is a light heavyweight bout between Misha Cirkunov and surging prospect Johnny Walker and a welterweight fight as original TUF winner Diego Sanchez battles Mickey Gall.

Askren wobbly on his feet. They clinch against the fence. Lawler with a big knee. Askren still holding onto Lawler. Askren gets the back of Lawler and looking for a choke. Askren has a bulldog choke and Lawler looks out but wasn’t out and Herb Dean stopped the fight. Lawler wasn’t out and is upset and Herb Dean knows he messed up. Lawler never tapped. Lawler’s arm went limp and that is when Dean grabbed the arm and then stopped the fight. Lawler may have went out for a moment. This definitely controversial.

UFC wants Jon Jones-Anthony Smith for March’s UFC 235

A week after controversially returning to competition at UFC 232, the UFC wants one of their biggest stars back in there sooner than later.

UFC president Dana White revealed to TMZ they want light heavyweight champion Jon Jones to defend his newly-won title against fast-rising contender Anthony Smith to headline March’s UFC 235 in Las Vegas, NV.

The one hitch in that plan: getting Nevada to license Jones who had to have his fight against Alexander Gustafsson at 232 moved with one week’s notice from Nevada to California due to the presence of a picogram of turinabol found in his system during December pre-fight testing.

The Nevada Athletic Commission wasn’t confident they could license him for 232 due to the timeframe in which they found out. Instead of waiting, the promotion moved the entire show to California of which thier commission head later said they were unaware of some failed tests in August that were revealed later.

Jones will still need to appear in front of the NAC to explain the situation that UFC VP Jeff Novitsky and USADA are claiming is due to a positive test he had in 2017. White said they will apply for a license later this month.

Since moving up to 205 pounds, the 30-year-old Smith has won three straight with three finishes including an October third round submission win over past title challenger Volkan Oezdemir.

UFC 235 also has Ben Askren vs. Robbie Lawler on that show which also could see the addition of welterweight champion Tyron Woodley vs. either Colby Covington or Kamaru Usman.

Volkan Oezdemir looks to get back into the win column after coming up short in a title fight in January as he takes on hard-hitting Anthony Smith, who has won two straight fights over former champions since moving up to 205 pounds. Oezdemir lost to UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 220 in January, and makes his return here, while Smith has back-to-back first-round knockout wins over Rashad Evans and Mauricio Rua.

In the co-main event, Michael Johnson steps in on short notice looking for his second straight win as he takes on Artem Lobov. Also on the main card is a pair of fights at 205 pounds as Misha Cirkunov battles Patrick Cummins, and Gian Villante takes on Ed Herman.
