AEW reveals new Women’s World title belt at Revolution

AEW revealed a brand-new Women’s World title belt at Sunday’s Revolution with Britt Baker later becoming the first-ever woman to wear it.

Thanks to repeated outside interference from Rebel and Jamie Hayter, Baker defeated Thunder Rosa Sunday to retain the gold. Rosa had both a visual pin and a visual tapout on Baker negated thanks to the interference.

After Rosa speared Rebel off the apron and then clotheslined Hayter, Baker caught her with a curb stomp on the way back into the ring to get the pin.

The new belt becomes the third in the Women’s World division history. After Riho won the inaugural version in 2019, a slightly updated version was created in 2021 to commemorate Hikaru Shida’s one-year run as champion. It was bigger with more diamonds, gold plating and two fewer side plates.

Riho, Nyla Rose, Shida and Baker are the only Women’s World titleholders in AEW’s short history while Jade Cargill is still the only TBS titleholder in that division’s even younger history.

Britt Baker vs. Kris Statlander title match set for AEW All Out

An AEW Women’s World Championship match has been added to the All Out PPV.

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. will defend the title against top-ranked contender Kris Statlander in Chicago on Sunday, September 5. The match was announced during tonight’s AEW Dynamite episode.

Baker has held the AEW Women’s Championship since the Double or Nothing PPV on May 30, where she ended Hikaru Shida’s title reign of over a year.

Statlander returned to action in April of this year after missing nearly ten months with a knee injury. She is on a sixteen-match winning streak in AEW in singles matches.

Here is the lineup for All Out:

AEW All Out, Sunday, September 5 on PPV —

  • AEW World Championship: Kenny Omega (c) vs. Christian Cage
  • CM Punk vs. Darby Allin
  • AEW Women’s World Championship: Britt Baker (c) vs. Kris Statlander
  • AEW World Tag Team Championship steel cage match: The Young Bucks (c) vs. Jurassic Express or Lucha Bros

Britt Baker vs. Red Velvet title match set for AEW Rampage debut

A Women’s World Championship match has been announced for the first episode of AEW Rampage.

Britt Baker will defend her AEW Women’s title against Red Velvet on the debut edition of Rampage. The announcement was made during tonight’s AEW Dynamite.

Baker was in the ring for an interview with Tony Schiavone when Velvet appeared to declare her intentions to challenge for the title. Baker stated that she had defeated Velvet in three minutes in the past. Velvet said that she was just an enhancement talent the last time they had face each other, but now Velvet is 22-4 with seven straight wins.

Rebel, Baker’s second, tried to attack Velvet with a crutch after the challenge was issued. Velvet avoided the crutch shot from Rebel, but ultimately fell victim to a curb stomp and a crutch shot from Baker to end the segment.

The first edition of Rampage will air live from Baker’s hometown of Pittsburgh.

AEW Rampage debuts next Friday, August 13 at 10 p.m. Eastern time on TNT.

AEW announces ‘The Deadly Draw’ women’s tag team tournament

A women’s tag team cup tournament was announced tonight on AEW Dynamite.

The tournament, which was referred to as “The Deadly Draw”, will feature sixteen stars of AEW’s women’s roster forming eight teams. There weren’t many details involved, though the video did show much of the AEW’s roster including Brandi Rhodes, Allie, Penelope Ford, Anna Jay, Nyla Rose, and Big Swole.

“This is our opportunity to rise up and show the world what we are made of” the narrator in the video said.

The tournament will take place this summer, though there were no details as to when the tournament would begin.

The AEW Women’s championship in recent weeks has centered around Hikaru Shida, who defeated Nyla Rose in a Falls Count anywhere match to win the championship back at Double or Nothing. Shida pinned Penelope Ford to retain the title at Fyter Fest.

Rose has since taken Vickie Guerrero as her new manager.

Vickie Guerrero revealed as Nyla Rose’s AEW manager

Vickie Guerrero was introduced as Nyla Rose’s new manager at AEW’s Fight for the Fallen event tonight.

During an interview with Dasha Gonzalez, Rose introduced Vickie Guerrero as her new manager. Guerrero cut a promo saying that when they decide to go after the title, no one will be able to stop them, and that Rose will steal every opportunity from everyone within the division.

Rose said last week that she would soon be introducting a new manager.

Guerrero has been seen previously on AEW television. She did guest commentary for AEW Dark back in December, and has also been seen in the crowd during AEW events. She also appeared in a Pep Rally segment introducing The Inner Circle back in February.

Nyla Rose currently stands at the top of the AEW Women’s division rankings. She lost the AEW Women’s championship to Hikaru Shida in a Falls Count Anywhere match at AEW Double or Nothing back on May 23.

AEW announces new Women’s title match for January 1st Dynamite

AEW announced a change to their Women’s title match for the New Year’s Day edition of Dynamite.

Instead of Riho defending her title against top contender Kris Statlander on January 1st, she will now defend in a four-way against Nyla Rose, Britt Baker, and Hikaru Shida. The reason given was that Statlander had “prior commitments”.

AEW also announced that Statlander will face the winner of the four-way in a title match the following Wednesday on the anniversary edition of Dynamite in Southaven, MS. Statlander earned the title shot with a win over Baker on the December 18th edition of Dynamite.

Dave Meltzer is reporting the commitment is for Joey Ryan’s Bar Wrestling and that they weren’t aware of the booking. Rather than pull her from that date, they made the change.

Riho hasn’t wrestled for AEW since November 13th when she teamed with Baker to defeat Big Swole and Statlander for an AEW Dark match, and hasn’t defended the title since a win over Emi Sakura at the Full Gear pay-per-view.

The New Year’s Day Dynamite from Jacksonville, FL, will feature Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks vs. the Lucha Bros and PAC, Cody Rhodes vs. Darby Allin, MJF announcing stipulations for a match with Cody, and Jon Moxley giving his answer to Chris Jericho about joining the Inner Circle.

Participants set for first AEW Women’s title match

Both participants have now been revealed for the match to crown AEW’s inaugural Women’s Champion.

Nyla Rose vs. Riho on the premiere of AEW on TNT will decide the promotion’s first Women’s Champion. The debut episode is taking place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, October 2.

Rose advanced to the title match by winning the Casino Battle Royale on the All Out pre-show. Riho was set up as Rose’s opponent by defeating Hikaru Shida on the All Out main card.

Shalandra Royal, Leva Bates, Faby Apache, Priscilla Kelly, Penelope Ford, Shazza McKenzie, Sadie Gibbs, Big Swole (Aerial Monroe), Britt Baker, Tenille Dashwood, Ivelisse, Bea Priestley, Brandi Rhodes, Awesome Kong, Allie, Nicole Savoy, Teal Piper, ODB, Jazz, and Mercedes Martinez were the other entrants in the Casino Battle Royale.

The Casino Battle Royale was the first match Rose has won in AEW. Riho defeated Rose and Yuka Sakazaki in a three-way match at Fyter Fest.

Riho was also on the winning side of a six-woman tag match at All Out, with her teaming with Shida & Ryo Mizunami against Aja Kong, Emi Sakura & Sakazaki. On the Fight for the Fallen pre-show, Riho & Britt Baker lost to Shoko Nakajima & Priestley.

Women’s title defense added to week three of AEW TV

Another title match has been added to week three of AEW TV.

AEW has announced that the first defense of their Women’s Championship will take place at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 16. Tickets for weeks two and three of AEW TV will go on sale tomorrow at noon Eastern time. Week two is being held at the Agganis Arena in Boston, Massachusetts.

The inaugural AEW Women’s Champion will be crowned on the promotion’s TV premiere on October 2. The winner of the women’s Casino Battle Royale on the All Out pre-show will become the first participant for that title match.

The Casino Battle Royale will include members of the AEW roster, along with others who aren’t signed with the company. Jazz, Ivelisse, and Teal Piper (Roddy Piper’s daughter Ariel Teal Toombs) are set for the match.

Week three of AEW TV will also include the promotion’s first World Championship defense. Chris Jericho and Hangman Page are facing off at All Out on August 31 to determine the first champion.

AEW TV will air live on TNT on Wednesdays from 8-10 p.m. Eastern time.
