AEW Dynamite Blood & Guts live results: Team AEW vs. Team Elite

Team AEW faces Team Elite in a Blood & Guts match on tonight’s special episode of AEW Dynamite.

AEW Champion Swerve Strickland, ROH Champion Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, and Max Caster & Anthony Bowens of The Acclaimed make up Team AEW, while Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada, Tag Team Champions Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson of The Young Bucks, Hangman Page, and TNT Champion Jack Perry comprise Team Elite.

Chris Jericho will defend the FTW Championship on tonight’s show against Japanese icon Minoru Suzuki.

Dr. Britt Baker, D.M.D. will make her in-ring return on the show against former three-time Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida. It will be Baker’s first match since September 2023.

Mariah May will “debut” her The Glamour character in a segment announced for tonight. May is the top contender to Toni Storm’s Women’s World Championship and the 2024 Owen Hart Foundation women’s tournament winner.

We will also hear from new AEW International Champion MJF on the show. MJF defeated Will Ospreay for the title on last week’s Dynamite in a match that went nearly an hour.

Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee will host tonight’s proceedings.

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Alex Marvez in the parking garage earlier today, at the airport I guess, waiting for Will Ospreay, who shows up and saw his tire was slashed. Ospreay asks for Marvez’s keys and they get in his car with Marvez asking if Ospraey has ever driven in America, which Ospreay said no and sped away.

Cheerleaders are in the arena and chant for the new AEW International Champion MJF, who makes his way to the ring, throwing his gum in the crowd. MJF said Ospreay didn’t hit the Tiger Driver because he’s a coward, just like how he couldn’t do it to Swerve Strickland, who MJF reminds he hasn’t forgotten about his World Title, he’s just waiting to pounce. When the spotlight is on MJF, he shines like a diamond, while Ospreay melts, as he beat Ospreay without breaking a sweat, the most dominant victory of all time. MJF said Ospreay should take a long walk off a short pier and brings up his grandmother passing away and how Ospreay could dig his grave a football field length away to give that skank enough room. MJF invited Ospreay to the ring, knowing he wasn’t there. MJF called the fans treasonous for only liking that the International Title was held by foreign talent. MJF said the International Title is garbage and threw it in a trash can.

MJF deserves a title that symbolizes the best wrestler and country in the world, not the third world nation like the United Kingdom. MJF unveils the America Championship to chants of USA, which MJF quickly cuts off, saying he’s not talking about nasty ass Nashville, but the magical place in the world, Plainview Long Island, New York. God bless the USA, God bless the American Champion, your American hero, Maxwell Jacob Friedman. Streamers and patriotic music play as an American Flag comes down from the rafters with MJF’s face as the stars.

Will Ospreay sprints to the ring, as MJF bailed up the ramp. Ospreay said at minute 59 of their match and MJF was breathing out his asshole, he knew he couldn’t beat him, so MJF reached into his trunks, pulled out the diamond ring and cheated instead of acknowledging Ospreay was on his level. MJF said he didn’t cheat, as Ospreay said he had a meeting with Tony Khan and he’s got his rematch, for All In at Wembley, home soil. Ospreay grabbed the International Title from the trash can and went to the back, as the match is official.

-We go backstage to Bryce Remsberg, who walks in to do the coin flip for the Blood & Guts man advantage, where The Elite have laid out Christopher Daniels. Matthew Jackson said they have their own coin for the coin toss for the man advantage and Remsberg realized he has no choice but to go with it. Jackson said look at that, it’s Team Elite and they officially get the advantage. They wonder where Hangman Page is, but Matthew assures them he’ll be there for them tonight.

Chris Jericho defeated Minoru Suzuki to retain the FTW Title

(If you like chops, have I got the match for you, as this was literally a hard-hitting battle from the start. After all the chops, Suzuki beat the holy hell out of Jericho, who just managed to sneak out a win. This reminded me of Jericho’s match with Tomohiro Ishii in which they just chopped each other so long that Jericho’s chest bled pretty quickly.)

Both men exchange chops out the gate and Suzuki just laughs in Jericho’s face. After continuing his no sell, Suzuki lit up Jericho, who tried to bail to ring 2, but was cut off. Jericho’s chest is bleeding already, as he’s also hurt his own hand throwing chops. Right before things went to picture in picture, Jericho finally collapsed, but both men continued their chop battle through break.

When things returned, Jericho, who is pouring blood from his chest, was first to throw a boot and lariat, tried for his springboard clothesline, but fell into a Suzuki arm bar in the ropes. Much to the delight of Taz on commentary, Suzuki smacked Jericho repeatedly with chairs, even trapping a hand of Jericho between one and smashing it with another. Suzuki snapped the fingers of Jericho, as Taz had a big smile. Back inside, Suzuki got the arm bar and wrenched at the fingers, as Jericho rolled through and raked the eyes before hitting a Code Breaker for one. The chops turned to forearms, as Suzuki did the misdirect into the Rear Naked Choke but Jericho swept the legs out and locked in the Walls of Jericho. Suzuki escapes and they repeat the sequence, as Suzuki went for the Gotch Piledriver, but Jericho hit a low blow and Judas Effect for the win.

Post match, Jericho posed with his title, only to get locked in the choke and hit with the Gotch Piledriver. Bryan Keith & Big Bill hit the ring, as they are no longer banned from ringside. Katsuyori Shibata’s music hits and he sneaks up from behind, low bridging Bill outside before hitting a kitchen sink on Keith. Shibata & Suzuki are left in the ring as The Learning Tree bail.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with new CMLL Women’s Champion, Willow Nightingale, who was about to talk when Stokely Hathaway interrupts and distracts long enough for Kris Statlander to blindside and hit a F5 onto a loading box. Hathaway challenges Nightingale to a title eliminator next week for the CMLL Women’s Title, they’ll wait for her answer when she wakes up.

**********

-Renee Paquette was interviewing Bryan Danielson earlier today, as he said the doctor said for the moment, his neck is fixable if something happens and he just wants to enjoy the moment. Jeff Jarrett interrupts and said he was crushed that he didn’t win the Owen Hart Cup, but Danielson is the perfect guy to win it and fulfil his destiny at Wembley. Jarrett said Swerve Strickland knows exactly what he needs to do in order to retain his title. Jarrett said Danielson can’t have one foot out the door, if he’s going all in, go all in, as a lot of people believe in him, Jarrett being at the very top of the list. Paquette asks where that sits with him and Danielson said it’s true, he’s got a lot of work to do. This was one hell of a pep talk delivered by Double J. Excalibur said that full interview is coming soon to the AEW YouTube channel.

Dr. Britt Baker submitted Hikaru Shida

(Another chapter in one of the top women’s rivalries in AEW, as Baker had some ring rust, but that’s to be expect after being out for 10 months. I liked the finishing sequence, as it showed both ladies knew each other well and it got Baker the victory. Post match, we continue the Mone story, as she now has her heater to go against the Doctor. I should would like Jamie Hayter back soon to even the odds.)

This is Baker’s first match since the September 16 episode of Collision. After an early scramble, Baker tried for Lockjaw, but Shida escaped into a stalemate. Both ladies slugged it out ringside to dueling chants from the crowd, as Shida delivered ten punches against the barricade. Baker was draped across the apron and Shida hit a running knee lift as things went to commercial.

It was all Shida during break, who teased doing the same dive that ultimately broke Skye Blue’s ankle last week, but Baker avoided it, hitting a neckbreaker and sling blade. Baker put on the glove, but took too long to follow up and Shida hit a German suplex into a guillotine. Shida released and missed a dive, but avoided a Baker rolling elbow and hit a headbutt that dropped both women. Both ladies traded close near falls off high stacks and jackknife covers before Shida tried the Falcon Arrow, but Baker spun out, wanting Lockjaw, but Shida got the ropes. Shida was conflicted about whether to grab her kendo stick, but the delay allowed Baker to his a rolling neckbreaker for two. Shida hit the question mark kick into the Falcon Arrow, but Baker dodged the Kitana knee and applied Lockjaw for the submission.

Mercedes Mone’s music immediately interrupted Baker’s victory, as Mone walked to the stage with her double titles. Mone, who is getting booed out of the building, said that was impressive victory. Mone said she knows Baker wants a shot at her TBS Title at Wembley, but her answer is no. All of a sudden, Kamille shows up and attacks Baker from behind. Baker is locked in a Torture Rack and spun into a sitout slam as Mone came to the ring. Kamille raised the hand of Mone, who stood over the fallen body of Baker.

-The Patriarchy are backstage and said they triumphed this last week as new Trios Champions and said Nick Wayne will be in the Royal Rampage this week on Rampage to determine who gets the AEW World Title shot at Grand Slam. Wayne was about to cut a promo when he spots Kip Sabian standing by and questions why he’s always around? Wayne said he knows Sabian is also in the Royal Rampage and he’s going to throw him out. Wayne told him no one cares Sabian’s father is dead, be a man and suck it up.

PAC defeated Boulder (w/Bronson & Jacked Jameson)

Quick sole butt from PAC, who tried a suplex, but Boulder didn’t budge, so PAC floated over into a pump kick. PAC charged, but Boulder ran through him, but missed a corner moonsault. PAC hit a shotgun dropkick and went after the legs. PAC immediately hit an impressive brainbuster on the big man and gets the quick win.

-Team AEW are backstage, as Swerve Strickland said the spirit of AEW is on the line tonight, as these warriors are ready to get violent. Strickland said he’s the leader, but Darby Allin cuts him off saying he’s not his leader, as tonight is about getting even with The Elite. Strickland said when this is all said and done, they can get violent with each other. Caster & Bowens said this isn’t about them, it’s about getting even with The Young Bucks. Voice of reason, Mark Briscoe, interrupts and said The Elite is about divide and conquer, which they can’t let happen. Briscoe gets his team amped up, as Allin just walks away.

“The Glamour” Mariah May defeated Kaitland Alexis

May walked out with the Owen Hart Foundation Title and the shoe she used to bloody up Timeless Toni Storm two weeks ago. May exploded out with a shotgun dropkick at the bell and one off the top rope for good measure. May relentlessly beat Alexis down before kissing her forehead and hitting May Day, but didn’t make the cover. Sweet Cheek Music delivered, as Storm Zero followed for the victory.

The music for Timeless Toni Storm hit, as May acted shocked, but it was initially a ploy. Someone appeared behind May and ripped off her wig to reveal Storm, scar on her head and staring daggers into May, who turned around and the slugfest was on. Referees hit the ring to separate the ladies, as the crowd chanted to let them fight. Storm got the microphone and yelled at May if she’s prepared to die, because she is.

-A great video package for Blood & Guts is shown with Dean Malenko’s voiceover placed to it ahead of the main event, next.

Team AEW (Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, Anthony Bowens, Max Caster & Darby Allin) defeated The Elite (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson, Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry & Hangman Adam Page) in Blood & Guts

(Long, violent match, but the storytelling towards the end I thought was fantastic. Page & Strickland continued their feud, as it almost led to Page losing his job because he was so tunnel visioned. With Strickland’s match already lined up for All In, it makes all the sense in the world for Strickland/Page to happen at All Out. I liked how the ending built to the Perry & Allin match and despite Perry being willing to go down in flames for The Elite, the same couldn’t be said for Matthew.)

Jack Perry & Darby Allin kicked things off, as Perry chucked a chair at Allin through the cage door and powerbombed him against the cage itself to start. Perry set up the steps and used it as a launching pad to send Allin into the crowd where they brawled. Allin dumped garbage all over Perry before clotheslining him back to ringside. In the ring, Perry leveled Allin with a trash can and choked him with a rope before lawn darting Allin into the corner can. Allin spat at Perry and fought back before Nicholas Jackson was out next with a suitcase and chair. Nicholas waved at the camera before hitting a slingshot assisted legdrop with Perry. Allin fought off a double suplex, but was launched into the cage by Nicholas and hit with a superkick, wedging Allin between the ring and cage heading into commercial.

ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe was next to a loud ovation, as he tackled Perry clear into ring 2. Nicholas tried to springboard in, but Briscoe was ready for the throw as he threw a ladder into the ring and hit a cannonball onto Nicholas with it. Matthew Jackson was next, also with a briefcase, as he threw his to his brother and DDT’d Allin onto it. Briscoe is repeatedly slammed into the cage, busting him open in the process. Allin was powerbombed onto Briscoe in the corner before Matthew hit a succession of Northern Lights, as Perry smacked Allin with the briefcase and The Bucks hit a double team stomp/powerbomb and rolling backstabber on Briscoe. Anthony Bowens evens the odds and took down everyone, until Matthew chucked the briefcase at his face. Briscoe was crotched on the top, as Allin was about to suffer a TK Driver, but Briscoe flew off the top with a cutter, while Allin hit a Scorpion Death Drop. Allin smashed down with a thumbtack covered skateboard onto the back of Matthew.

Bowens brought out a pair of literal scissors and started violently stabbing Perry in the head before slicing him in the mouth with the scissors opened. Schiavone said this gives new meaning to the term scissor me. Kazuchika Okada is out next with his Rainmaker Drive sign and waffled Bowens & Allin with it before hitting Briscoe with a Tombstone. Okada hit a ripcord low blow and dropkicked a chair into Briscoes face as things went to commercial. It was all The Elite during break until Max Caster was out next and he popped Okada with a microphone before decking The Bucks with his chain and Perry with a chair. Big time top rope chair shot from Caster to Okada until Caster threw in a barbed wire board. The Acclaimed wanted to suplex Okada onto it, but Perry & Nicholas made the save and hit a hip toss on Bowens onto the board before bodyslamming and sandwiching him between boards where Nicholas hit a Swanton through them. Okada dumped a handful of tacks in his hand and placed them into Caster’s mouth as The Bucks hit a superkick to the face.

Hangman Adam Page was supposed to be next, but never came out, as this allowed Team AEW to fight back as a team. Excalibur said if Page doesn’t show up, this match can’t officially begin, which, what’s the point of this then? Bowens wrapped barbed wire around his leg and hit Scissor Me Timbers on Nicholas. Swerve Strickland was the final Team AEW entrant, as Hangman Adam Page sprinted out and attacked from behind, handcuffing Strickland to the outside of the cage. Okada hit a rolling corner DVD onto the barbed wire boards on Briscoe. Page decked Prince Nana and screamed that Strickland didn’t deserve the AEW World Title and he’s going to eat him alive. Matthew Jackson screamed at an unresponsive Page to listen to him and said if he doesn’t get in the ring, he’s fired. Page finally obliged and got in the ring, as Matthew demands the door locked and as EVP, the match officially starts. Page & Okada started shoving each other at the bell, as Team AEW (minus Strickland, still handcuffed) fights back heading into another commercial.

Jeff Jarrett tries storming to the ring with his guitar before Brandon Cutler comes out to put a stop to it. Daddy Ass appears, levels Cutler, who gets El Kabonged by a Jarrett guitar shot, as they, along with Prince Nana, help to free Strickland from his handcuffs. Nana gave wire cutters to Strickland, who cut open the cage and hit the ring, taking everyone out until it was just he & Page staring each other down from ring 1 & 2. They slug it out, as Strickland dodges a Buckshot, but gets trapped between the barbed wire boards. Allin flies in with a Code Red, as everyone hits big time shots until Strickland stalks down Page in the corner with a staplegun, a callback to their Texas Death Match. Matthew hit a low blow on Strickland and opens one of the briefcases to reveal multiple stapleguns. Strickland is surrounded and The Elite who all staple Strickland, who ultimately laughs in their faces. Strickland got ahold of one and staples The Bucks & Perry before Okada goes for a Rainmaker, flips Strickland off and gets his finger stapled. Page flew in with a Buckshot, but Strickland ducked and Okada took the move. Strickland stapled Page in the face as the two spilled out of the ring and up the ramp as we go to the last commercial of the night and we’re told both went crashing off the stage.

Back from break, The Bucks had assembled a group of tables outside the cage, as Bowens & Nicholas fought up the cage and Bowens had his head smashed against the steel and crashed through all of the tables. Back inside, Briscoe hit Jay Drillers on Okada, Perry & The Bucks, as Allin set up Perry on a table and Matthew was placed on one as well, as Briscoe hit a Froggy Bow through it. Allin climbed up and used the cage as monkey bars to hit a Coffin Drop on Perry through the table. Caster handed out handcuffs as Perry was cuffed to the cage as Briscoe hit kendo stick shots, but Perry wouldn’t quit. Allin said that’s fine, let’s get this party started. Briscoe hit a wild unprotected chair shot to Perry, as Allin brought out a gas can and lighter. Allin poured gas all over Perry, saying he’d light his ass on fire if he doesn’t quit. Perry spat at him, as Matthew promised Allin a TNT Title match at All In, but Allin wasn’t satisfied and Matthew finally quit for his team to end the match.

Darby Allin says he’s ‘got a lot of stuff planned’ for AEW Blood & Guts

Darby Allin is prepared for his first-ever cage match on AEW Dynamite.

Allin is scheduled to be part of Team AEW at Blood & Guts tonight in Nashville. He opened up to Sports Illustrated recently about the match.

“I’ve got a lot of stuff planned,” said Allin. “I’ve never even been in a cage match before. Never. It’s a fun challenge. And you know me, I love a challenge.”

“This is really important to me. I want to be the face of this company. I want to be the spokesperson for this place. Look what AEW has allowed me to do inside the ring, and the freedom I get outside the ring. That’s why I’ve been able to be authentic and real to myself.”

In addition to tonight’s Blood & Guts match, Allin is preparing for a likely showdown with Jack Perry in Wembley Stadium later this summer. At Collision on Saturday, Allin challenged Perry to a TNT title match at All In. When asked about Perry, Allin stated that he has been “rewarded for bad behavior” and that he “does not care for him.”

“It’s pretty cool to see what Jack is doing now,” he said. “Everyone always says a pro wrestler is at their best when they’re themselves turned up to ten. In real life, he’s an idiot. He’s entitled. So he’s getting to be his real self. I feel like he’s been rewarded for bad behavior. I don’t care for him.”

Allin is coming off a win over The Beast Mortos on AEW Collision this week. He now has a 7-3 AEW record on the year.

The full interview with Sports Illustrated is available here.

Swerve Strickland wants to make this AEW Blood & Guts ‘unique and different’

Swerve Strickland says the goal for tonight’s Blood & Guts match is to make it unique.

Strickland will be part of Team AEW in the double-ringed cage bout scheduled for Dynamite. It will be his first time in a Blood & Guts match and he spoke to Sports Illustrated recently about what fans can expect.

“Expect blood,” Strickland said. “Expect guys to step up and become something more than they already are.”

“This is our Marvel civil war. On one side you’ve got Iron Man leading the pack, and on the other side is Captain America leading the pack. And both have their own beliefs, and both believe they’re right and the other side is wrong.”

“Making this the most unique and different Blood and Guts, that’s the goal,” he continued. “There’s a lot of stories being told.

“A lot of us are in it for the first time and stepping up. We get to see Mark Briscoe and The Acclaimed in this match, and we’ll see them jump up to the next level. I’m proud of these guys and I’m proud to be in there with them.”

“It’s almost time. I’m hungry to get started.”

In particular, Strickland noted that with Darby Allin in the match, anything can happen.

“No one is stopping him from whatever he wants to do,” he said of Allin.

In addition to tonight’s Blood & Guts match Strickland is also preparing to defend his AEW World Championship against men’s Owen Hart Cup winner Bryan Danielson at All In in Wembley Stadium later this summer. He’s already defended the belt four times since winning it from Samoa Joe at AEW Dynasty in April. He’s defeated Claudio Castagnoli, Christian Cage, Roderick Strong, and most recently Will Ospreay to retain the title.

Mariah May segment booked for AEW Dynamite Blood & Guts

The 2024 Owen Hart Foundation women’s tournament winner has been added to the lineup for the Wednesday, July 24 AEW Dynamite.

The “debut” of “The Glamour” Mariah May has been announced for the Blood & Guts edition of Dynamite. The new segment for Wednesday’s show was announced during Friday’s AEW Rampage episode.

May turned on Toni Storm after winning the Owen last week on Dynamite, then May cut a promo dressed as Storm on this week’s episode. The new segment for Blood & Guts seems to be intended to reintroduce May with her “The Glamour” gimmick from Stardom, as the number one contender to Storm’s Women’s World Championship has been using Storm’s old gimmick in storyline for months.

Also newly added to Wednesday’s lineup, new International Champion MJF will speak on the show, a week after defeating Will Ospreay for the title.

Already set for Dynamite are the Blood & Guts match with Team AEW vs. Team Elite, plus Chris Jericho defending the FTW title against Minoru Suzuki.

The updated AEW Dynamite Blood & Guts card for Wednesday, July 24:

  • Blood & Guts match: The Elite (Matt & Nick Jackson, Jack Perry, Kazuchika Okada and Hangman Page) vs. Team AEW (Swerve Strickland, Anthony Bowens, Max Caster, Darby Allin & Mark Briscoe)
  • FTW Champion Chris Jericho defends against Minoru Suzuki with The Learning Tree banned from ringside
  • Debut of “The Glamour” Mariah May
  • New International Champion MJF speaks

Chris Jericho vs. Minoru Suzuki FTW title match set for AEW Dynamite Blood & Guts

After promising to come for Chris Jericho and his FTW title several weeks ago, Minoru Suzuki intends to make good on that promise as part of next Wednesday’s Blood & Guts edition of AEW Dynamite.

Suzuki made a surprise appearance on this week’s show, interrupting a Learning Tree segment with Jericho, Bryan Keith and Big Bill. He then pulled out a contract and said, “Next week.” Keith then read the contract where it was revealed that both he and Bill are banned from ringside for the match.

Suzuki first made the challenge on the pre-Forbidden Door edition of Dynamite when Jericho thought he was going to join he and Bill at the pay-per-view in a trios match. Suzuki then surprised him by denying that offer and making his intent known: the FTW title.

The two have never gone one-on-one, but have been on the same trios team twice and on opposite ends of a trios match another time — all in AEW.

Jericho will be looking to defend the ceremonial title for the third time since winning it at April’s Dynasty.

Here’s the current lineup for Nashville:

  • Blood & Guts match: The Elite (Matt & Nick Jackson, Jack Perry, Kazuchika Okada and Hangman Page) vs. Team AEW (Swerve Strickland, Anthony Bowens, Max Caster, Darby Allin & Mark Briscoe)
  • FTW Champion Chris Jericho defends against Minoru Suzuki with The Learning Tree banned from ringside

Tony Khan: It’d be great to have women’s AEW Blood & Guts match at some point

Though we haven’t gotten a women’s Blood & Guts match yet, Tony Khan is open to making it happen in the future.

Khan told the Battleground Podcast that it would be great to have the women’s division compete in Blood & Guts at some point. He thinks the best time for it to happen would be when AEW has enough healthy women’s stars and they’re intertwined in the right story. Right now, Khan believes the division is stronger than it has ever been.

“At some point, it would be great to have a women’s Blood & Guts match. I think you need a lot of people tied in on [the] story, and a lot of healthy people,” Khan said. “We have a great roster that we’re building up, and I think our women’s roster is stronger than it’s ever been right now today. And I’m really excited about that. So if we ever get to the point where we’ve got enough people tied together and the story makes sense, I think it would be great.”

Willow Nightingale and Skye Blue are among the wrestlers who have voiced their support for a women’s Blood & Guts match. Blue told WGN Radio last month that Blood & Guts is her favorite Dynamite episode and she wants to be in that cage “so badly.”

“To be the first woman to have a Blood & Guts match — I would cry,” Blue said.

Blood & Guts is AEW’s version of WarGames. It’s taken place as a special episode of Dynamite every year since 2021. This year, Blood & Guts will be held in Nashville on Wednesday, July 24 and will pit Team AEW against The Elite.

The Battleground Podcast’s full interview with Khan can be watched below:

Two new competitors confirmed for AEW Blood & Guts match

Two new competitors have been confirmed for AEW Blood & Guts on July 24.

AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland announced during Wednesday’s Dynamite that he will be part of Team AEW in the Blood & Guts match set for Dynamite on July 24. Strickland joins Mark Briscoe as the first two confirmed members of Team AEW. Three spots remain empty on Team AEW.

Also on Dynamite, Hangman Page officially joined Team Elite for the Blood & Guts match, as all five competitors for the team are now set.

Page joins Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson), Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada, and TNT Champion Jack Perry in making up Team Elite.

Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee will host this year’s Blood & Guts match on the Wednesday, July 24 Dynamite.

Not yet confirmed for the match but heavily teased in another segment on Wednesday’s show is Darby Allin.

Allin attacked Perry in a backstage angle on Wednesday’s show and issued a challenge to the TNT Champion for next week’s 250th episode of AEW Dynamite.

Mark Briscoe named as first member of Team AEW for Blood & Guts match

Image: AEW

While The Elite’s team has yet to be fully rounded out for the impending Blood & Guts match this month, Team AEW is finally starting to form as Ring of Honor World Champion Mark Briscoe has pledged his allegiance against The Elite.

Briscoe revealed his inclusion on Wednesday’s Dynamite during a passionate in-ring promo, getting jumped by new TNT champion and Elite member Jack Perry afterward. Kyle O’Reilly came to Briscoe’s aid only to then get jumped by Elite member Kazuchika Okada. The Young Bucks then came out to put the odds further in their favor until The Acclaimed ran everyone off.

While Briscoe’s involvement is now confirmed, The Elite are still looking to recruit a final team member as Hangman Page turned the Bucks down Wednesday in a backstage segment following his return to action in the Owen Hart Foundation tournament.

It will be Briscoe’s first Blood & Guts match while it will be the second-such contest for Nick & Matt Jackson who participated in last year’s match in Boston. It will also be the first Blood & Guts match for both AEW Continental Champion Okada and Perry.

The double cage buffet of in-ring violence will take place on the Wednesday, July 24th Dynamite from Nashville, Tennessee.

Claudio Castagnoli: AEW Blood & Guts handshake probably should have aired on TV

On AEW Dynamite earlier this week, the rivalry between The Elite and Blackpool Combat Club came to a close in Blood & Guts.

The Elite & Kota Ibushi prevailed in the match, defeating Blackpool Combat Club inside of the two-ring cage. Blackpool Combat Club lost the match after their two partners, PAC and Konosuke Takeshita, walked out on them.

After the show went off the air, there was a moment where The Elite and Blackpool Combat Club were able to at least momentarily put their issues aside. The two factions shook hands, expressing their mutual respect for each other.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Castagnoli discussed the post-show moment, saying that it’s something he thinks probably should have aired on television.

Castagnoli also said that, despite losing the match, he thinks Blackpool Combat Club accomplished something by making The Elite play by their rules.

“That’s what we wanted to come across. We lost that battle but we won the war. Thanks to the Blackpool Combat Club, now The Elite is better than ever. We brought them to a place they’ve never been,” Castagnoli said.

“The post-match between the BCC and The Elite, with Kenny talking and we all shook hands, that probably should have been on television, but it shows that there is nothing like being there in-person. There is nothing like being there live.”

Castagnoli told Sports Illustrated that he thinks the Blood & Guts match delivered on its high expectations.

“It was the spectacle of blood and guts that people expected, and even exceeded that,” Castagnoli said. “We had modifications from last year with the separate entrances, which helped. There’s only been two other of these matches in AEW, but I thought it delivered.”

The dissension between Castagnoli and PAC in Blood & Guts leads to the main event of tonight’s ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view. Castagnoli is defending his ROH World Championship against PAC at the PPV.

VIDEO: Golden Elite, Blackpool Combat Club shake hands after AEW Blood & Guts

Following AEW Dynamite Blood & Guts in Boston Wednesday, Kenny Omega cut an off air promo which resulted in The Golden Elite and the Blackpool Combat Club shaking hands in a show of respect that marked the end of their long feud.

Omega also mentioned sticking with The Elite “wherever these guys go” in a line that has raised some speculation.

In the video seen below, Omega took the microphone a few minutes after Dynamite went off air and said that they could keep the feud going between them but that The Golden Elite respects them.

If you guys want, I’ll shorten my career, I’ll shorten my life to keep this fight alive. But I’m willing to stick my hand out and shake yours if you guys will let bygones be bygones,” he said, followed by him mentioning each BCC member including Bryan Danielson and his respect for each of them.

“If you guys want to keep doing it, so help me God, I’ll keep doing it. But I’m gonna do it with a newfound respect for each and every one of you. I’m gonna stick my hand out, just this once, just this once, as a sign of respect because I respect the hell out of you guys,” he said.

Jon Moxley, Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli then begrudgingly shook the hands of all Golden Elite members.

After they left, Omega continued to address the crowd and the Golden Elite members, saying among other things, “As long as I am an active performer in professional wrestling, I’m gonna go wherever these guys go.”

As discussed on Wrestling Observer Radio, that line has people talking given Omega and The Young Bucks’ current contract status with their deals up at the end of the year according to Dave Meltzer.

Meltzer said a lot of things can happen between now and then and that there’s a lot of ways things can go. As previously reported, AEW head Tony Khan is trying to sign all three men to new deals.

The Golden Elite win Blood & Guts match on AEW Dynamite

The Golden Elite claimed victory in the annual Blood & Guts match on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite in Boston.

The Golden Elite squad of The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson), Kenny Omega, Hangman Page, and the debuting Kota Ibushi defeated the Blackpool Combat Club side featuring Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Konosuke Takeshita, and PAC via submission when Yuta passed out while being choked with a chain by Page. It appeared at first that the call was a referee stoppage, but commentary pushed that Moxley submitted with Yuta unable to respond while being choked out.

The finish came after PAC and Takeshita walked out on the match, The Young Bucks kept Castagnoli at bay, and Moxley was handcuffed to the ring ropes. PAC walked out after a series of miscommunication spots with Castagnoli, while Takeshita bailed on the match at the behest of Don Callis as it became clear that The Golden Elite had the upper hand.

The wild brawl included Matt Jackson hitting a series of northern lights suplexes on Yuta on the top of the cage, glass, thumbtacks, a table, a chair, a bed of nails, as well as the aforementioned chain and handcuffs.

The Pinnacle (MJF, Wardlow, FTR & Shawn Spears) defeated The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana & Ortiz) in the first Blood & Guts match on the May 5, 2021 Dynamite.

In last year’s edition, Blackpool Combat Club (Moxley, Castagnoli & Yuta) and Eddie Kingston, Santana & Ortiz defeated The Jericho Appreciation Society (Jericho, Guevara, Hager, Daniel Garcia, Matt Menard & Angelo Parker) on the June 29, 2022 Dynamite.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

AEW Dynamite comes on the air with Excalibur welcoming us alongside Tony Schiavone and Taz, as Tarzan Boy played, but Jungle Boy Jack Perry never came out. Instead, we saw a video of Perry in the desert pulling a body with Jungle Boy’s boots into a grave and he dug the hole. A limousine pulled up and Perry stepped inside as he was announced simply as Jack Perry and walked out to his new music, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony.

Jack Perry defeated HOOK to win the FTW Title

(It appears Jungle Boy is officially dead and buried, as the new theme and look for Perry set the stage for handing HOOK his first loss. This feud is far from over and this was a good first battle between the two. My one complaint was the ref bump looked absurd and made Paul Turner look ridiculous in the process. Pun intended, but by hook or by crook, Perry did what was needed to win his first singles title in his AEW career.)

Despite Taz literally being right there on commentary, Excalibur asked Tony Schiavone to give the history of the FTW Title. HOOK immediately went after Perry, who bailed outside and was launched over the barricade with HOOK going right out after, launching off the barricade with a Superman punch. Back inside, Perry got an eye rake and dropkick to gain control. The crowd really let Perry hear it as the fight went back to the floor during commercial.

HOOK fought off a German suplex off the apron and delivered an Exploder suplex to the floor with both landing super hard. HOOK went to throw Perry back inside, but Perry posed HOOK and connected with a draping DDT off the apron. Perry was content with a countout win, but HOOK broke the count at 9 as Perry hit a release German, but HOOK no sold and hit a multiple bridging Germans for two. HOOK went for a third, but Perry grabbed the ref, hit a mule kick and charging forearm to the neck for a close near fall.

Perry grabbed the FTW Title and brought it in the ring, as referee Paul Turner awkwardly tried to take it from him, but got sandwiched instead. HOOK hit a head and arm suplex, had the visible pin, but the ref was down. HOOK went to revive the official when Perry grabbed the FTW Title and waffled HOOK. Perry draped an arm over HOOK, getting the win and the title, ending the undefeated streak of HOOK in the process.

-We see footage of Alex Marvez earlier today seeing Chris Jericho & Don Callis having a meal together when Callis’ security spots them and shoves him away.

-Footage of MJF & Adam Cole last night at Kowloon restaurant with Cole saying MJF has to face his fear of one of the things Max hates most, spicy food and not poor people, which MJF thought it’d be. Another chapter in the bonding of Better Than You Bay Bay, as they ate spicy food and drank what they thought was water, but it was 100 proof alcohol. A drunken Cole & MJF thought the waiter looked like Daniel Garcia & Sammy Guevara and were about to give him a double clothesline when the video ended.

-We see Alex Marvez outside of the arena earlier today waiting for Don Callis’ limousine to pull up as he arrived with Chris Jericho. Marvez asked if Jericho has made a decision with both calling him a fat headed idiot.

Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D. defeated Kayla Sparks

(With the Owen Hart Cup over, this was a way to get Baker back on the winning track after being eliminated so early in the tournament.)

Baker hit a Sling Blade, double underhook suplex and Lock Jaw for the quick victory.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Adam Cole & MJF who talk about winning the Blind Eliminator Tournament tonight. MJF presented Cole with matching trunks, while Cole had matching ring jackets made. There was one final surprise Cole had, as they walked off and Roderick Strong came into the shot yelling for Cole. Paquette tried to tell him what just happened, but he didn’t want to hear it, looking dejected again.

-Chris Jericho joined commentary before the match, cutting his music off before the crowd could sing along to the Judas chorus. The surprise Cole was referencing was he had a mash-up made with his & MJF’s entrance themes, which popped MJF like crazy. I know I was late to the party on this, but Cole & MJF have completely won me over as a buddy duo.

AEW World Champion MJF & Adam Cole defeated Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia to win the Blind Eliminator Tournament

(I did my best to describe what took place in the pre-match, but I can’t recommend seeking it out more, as it was a whole lot of fun. We finally got our pay off to the build of the double clothesline spot and it made the crowd go wild. Post match not only planted more seeds of dissention between Jericho & his crew, but we also saw cracks in the friendship between Cole & MJF. The time will come, assuredly sooner rather than later, but this pairing has turned into a lot of fun while it’s lasted.)

Prior to the bell, MJF & Garcia had what can only be described as a Thrust Off. This turned into a full blown Dance Battle, as MJF jumped ringside and literally hit the music as Garcia & Guevara were first and obviously had a routine planned out ready for this moment. MJF took the stage and did his dance before Cole thrusted so often and terribly that the music scratched and MJF begged him to stop. This was one of the most surreal, yet amazing openings to an AEW match ever. Garcia & Guevara attacked immediately, but bailed when Cole & MJF yelled for a double clothesline. MJF hit the ropes tirelessly, faking a dive before opting to pose, as Garcia took control soon after into commercial break.

MJF remained isolated the whole break before MJF fell head first into the groin of Guevara, which Taz called Yam-Bag Yahtzee. MJF dodged a double clothesline and made the hot tag to Cole, who ran wild, dropping Garcia with a series of superkicks, but missed the Panama Sunrise. Garcia opted to thrust at referee Bryce and ate a Cole superkick, as did a springing Guevara. Cole & MJF signaled for the double clothesline, but Guevara ducked and hit a double standing Spanish Fly. MJF dodged a super Cutter and tried Cross Rhodes, but Guevara avoided and Cole made a blind tag. Garcia hit a double chop block and sank in the Dragon Slayer on Cole, who got the ropes. Garcia was backdropped to the floor onto Guevara, as Cole told MJF to do the dive. Hesitant at first, MJF connected on the tope on both outside and the crowd lost their minds. Back inside, Cole hit the Panama Sunrise on Garcia, tagged MJF and they finally hit the elusive double clothesline with MJF getting the pin and win.

Jericho tried to cheer up Guevara & Garcia at the ramp, but both men walked away from him, similar to Jake Hager walking away last week. Meanwhile, in the ring, Cole held the AEW Title and MJF ripped it away furious before cooler heads prevailed with both hugging, but MJF giving a look when Cole turned his back. FTR’s music hit, as Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler came to the ring for the face off, as the match is set for July 29th on Collision for the AEW Tag Team Titles.

-Renee Paquette is backstage with Best Friends, Kris Statlander, Orange Cassidy, Darby Allin & Nick Wayne. Paquette talked about Allin & Wayne being in the Royal Rampage this Friday, while Statlander will be facing Marina Shafir for the TBS Title on Rampage as well. Allin said Swerve Strickland will also be in the Royal Rampage, but asks Cassidy if he’ll do him a favor and give someone a shot that helped him out when he was homeless, that being AR Fox. Cassidy says Allin & he are cool, so he grants the shot to Fox next week on Dynamite. Best Friends tried doing an all hands in, but Allin & Wayne walked off with Paquette being the only one who joined in.

-Chompy The Shark joined commentary to plug Shark Week starting Sunday as Taz said if the shark touched him, he’s tossing it off the stage.

-A video package on the history of The Golden Elite & Blackpool Combat Club is shown, as the main event is up next.

The Golden Elite (Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson), Hangman Adam Page & Kota Ibushi) defeated Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, Konosuke Takeshita & PAC) in a Blood & Guts Match

(An incredibly violent and action packed war to put an end to such a hard hitting saga. I wrote a lot about this match because a hell of a lot happened. This was my favorite Blood & Guts match that AEW has done as this was filled with holy sh*t moments. If you aren’t a fan of violence, I don’t know what to tell you, as this match lived up to the billing. At one point the crowd chanted they wanted fire and I’m thrilled they didn’t get their wish as I think they had just run out of things to chant for, since they had already gotten glass, tacks, chairs, nails, tables, forks, screwdrivers, etc. You have multiple stories you could tell coming out of this match, especially since two teammates bailed on the BCC. It’ll be interesting the direction they go heading into All In & All Out.)

Omega & Castagnoli began for their respective teams and it was Castagnoli getting the upper hand as we were told the BCC won the coin toss and will be getting the early advantage. Omega hit a cross body off the top and launched Castagnoli into the second ring. After Castagnoli regained control, Omega hit an up and over in the corner, snap hurricanrana and drunk slam as PAC was the next entrant and caught Omega with a quick missile dropkick. PAC & Castagnoli had a brief face off before beating down Omega during commercial.

Hangman Page joined the match right when they returned from break and the crowd is already on fire. Page caught PAC on a cross body and hit a fall away slam before wiping out Castagnoli with a springing clothesline and moonsault off the top rope. Page & Omega showed great teamwork and why they were former Tag Team Champions with their double team pop up German suplex on PAC. Castagoli was able to dropkick Omega against the cage repeatedly and gain control just as Jon Moxley entered the arena. Page was waiting for Moxley, who jumped in with a screwdriver and stabbed Page & Omega repeatedly with it, even biting the fingers of Omega. Moxley handed Castagnoli a fork, before grabbing a bucket from under the ring, dumping broken glass out. Before anything could happen, Nick Jackson ran to the ring and hit a dropkick on Moxley, landing on the glass. Thankfully Moxley had a jacket on to absorb a lot of it.

Nick ran wild, sending Castanoli & PAC almost colliding and brief argument before Jackson laid them both out. Nick hit a double springboard hurricanrana that dropped Castagnoli onto the glass, but Moxley quickly hit suplex on Nick, stomping down glass onto the chest. Castagnoli & Moxley hit a double suplex on Omega onto the glass as Wheeler Yuta was in next, running to the ring with a chair during commercial. Even in picture in picture, the camera unfortunately cut right as Yuta dropped Nick with a brainbuster onto the set up chair. Omega tried a springboard on Moxley, who shoved Omega back first into the cage. Omega found himself trapped between the cage and the ring when Matt Jackson entered and dropped PAC with a face buster and Yuta with a DDT onto the chair.

I could be wrong, but Moxley is I believe the first person to officially bleed as The Young Bucks connected with Risky Business. Omega emerged from under the ring as Moxley mounted a comeback with Castanoli’s help on The Bucks with suplexes and uppercuts. Yuta meanwhile, was driven face first into the glass by Omega with Konosuke Takeshita the final entrant for the BCC as Don Callis joined commentary. Takeshita cracked Page with a chair and hit The Bucks with dueling suplexes before turning Omega inside out with a lariat. Moxley brought out a bed of nails with Taz calling him a horror movie dude. Omega blocked the first shot, but Moxley hit a shotgun dropkick sending Omega into the nails followed by a bodyslam by Moxley. Callis loved it as even Castagnoli looked at Moxley with an impressed reaction.

Kota Ibushi’s music hit to a monster reaction, as Yuta sprinted up the ramp and was laid out. Ibushi laid out Castagnoli, PAC & Takeshita as Ibushi stared down Moxley, who stomped down on Omega’s hand onto the nails, flipping Ibushi off. Both men started a wild strike exchange until PAC & Castagnoli ate a double Pele kick before Moxley was dropped onto the nails by Ibushi who followed with a standing moonsault. Ibushi clutched his wrist, as The Golden Lovers were going to do the BTE Trigger on Takeshita, but PAC & Castagnoli made the save. Nick was pressed over Castagnoli’s head and launched into the cage before they went to commercial.

Yuta & Matt Jackson had been brawling on the stage before both decided to climb to the top of the cage. Matt did his rolling Northern Lights suplexes up there, but Yuta countered the final one into a DDT. Yuta wisely climbed down the cage as Excalibur plugged the American Red Cross during Blood & Guts and even acknowledged how wild that was. PAC & Castagnoli were about to do double piledrivers on Page & Nick when Matt rained down thumbtacks from the top of the cage and PAC & Castagnoli got backdropped onto them in one of the coolest visuals I’ve seen. All 10 men are finally in the ring and The Elite hit You Can’t Escape, standing shooting star, top rope elbow & 450 Splash combo on PAC heading into the final commercial break.

During picture in picture, The Bucks & Page hit an assisted Tombstone & Dead Eye combo as Nick set up a table teetering between the rings. We had four superplexes in succession by The BCC and finally PAC held onto the top of the cage and swung into a double stomp through the table on Nick in an incredible moment. The back of Jon Moxley was shown and it was quite the gnarly image as each team regrouped in separate rings before a 10 man brawl commenced. Everyone took turns hitting home run shots with PAC being planted with a Snap Dragon into the glass. Omega tried One Winged Angel, but PAC countered into the Brutalizer. The BCC had 4 submissions applied while Matt ate the Giant Swing into the Sharpshooter.

Ibushi broke free and busted up all the submissions, really having to work to break up Castagnoli’s. Omega ate corner splashes when miscommunication occurred again between Castagnoli & PAC, who had to be separated by Yuta, Takeshtia & Moxley. PAC flipped off everyone before getting bolt cutters under the ring, snapped the cage door and bailing, slamming the door at Castagnoli. Omega fired up with Snap Dragons, Page hit a Buckshot on Castagnoli, and a Buckshot Trigger on Yuta with Omega. Moxley was handcuffed, as Callis pulled Takeshita from the match and they also bailed leaving it 5 on 3. Yuta meanwhile was busted open with a thumbtack covered shoe by Matt Jackson. Page wrapped a chain around the throat of Yuta and he passed out, ending the match, as Moxley was forced to watch handcuffed as The Golden Elite had their hands raised.
