MJF & Adam Cole win AEW Blind Eliminator Tournament

MJF & Adam Cole have earned an AEW World Tag Team title shot.

MJF & Cole defeated Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia on Wednesday’s Dynamite in the finals of the Blind Eliminator Tournament, winning a shot at FTR’s AEW Tag titles on the Saturday, July 29 edition of Collision.

After weeks of teasing their double clothesline spot, MJF & Cole finally connected with it on Garcia after Cole hit Garcia with a Panama Sunrise, and MJF scored the pin to set up the title match for next week’s Collision.

After the win, FTR’s Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler came to the ring for a staredown with the challengers.

FTR retained the Tag titles in a two-out-of-three falls match against Bullet Club Gold’s Jay White & Juice Robinson on last week’s Collision. They have held the titles since defeating The Gunns on the April 5 episode of Dynamite.

Cole & MJF defeated Matt Menard & The Butcher in the Blind Eliminator quarterfinals, and Big Bill & Brian Cage in the semifinals before defeating Guevara & Garcia to capture the tournament.

AEW Blind Eliminator tournament finals set

The AEW Blind Eliminator tournament finals are set.

MJF & Adam Cole will meet Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia on the July 19 edition of AEW Dynamite. The winner of that match will face the AEW Tag Team Champions in a title match on the July 29 edition of Collision, which will take place in Hartford, Connecticut.

MJF & Cole advanced by defeating Big Bill and Brian Cage in a tournament semifinal. Cole has been questioning MJF’s motives ever since MJF insisted on bonding with him, but it was shown on Wednesday’s Dynamite that Cole had been warming up to him. After they defeated Bill and Cage, the two cut a promo and finished by saying their respective catchphrases.

Guevara and Garcia defeated Darby Allin and Orange Cassidy earlier in the show to advance. The finish had Prince Nana and Swerve Strickland becoming involved, attacking Darby Allin before escaping into the crowd. Guevara didn’t see the interference and hit the GTH on Allin for the win.

Blind Eliminator Tournament to begin on next AEW Dynamite

The Blind Eliminator Tournament kicks off on next week’s AEW Dynamite.

Two more random pairings for the tournament were announced during this week’s episode, with former partners and former AEW World Tag Team Champions Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland set to team in the tournament opener next week against Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin.

MJF & Adam Cole were the first team announced for the tournament during last week’s Dynamite. Lee & Strickland, and Cassidy & Allin are the second and third teams set for the eight-team tournament.

Also announced for next week, the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament quarterfinals will continue with Britt Baker facing Ruby Soho in a rematch of last year’s Owen finals.

Baker vs. Soho was originally set for this week’s Dynamite, but Baker was a late scratch from the card due to illness. Soho instead face Alexia Nicole in a non-tournament bout on Wednesday’s episode.

Next week’s announced Dynamite lineup to this point:

AEW Dynamite, Wednesday, July 5 —

  • Blind Eliminator Tournament quarterfinals: Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland vs. Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin

MJF & Adam Cole to team in AEW blind eliminator tournament

World Champion MJF will team with Adam Cole in the AEW blind eliminator tournament for a Tag Team title shot.

AEW revealed on Wednesday’s Dynamite that MJF & Cole were the first two names drawn for the blind eliminator tournament, a modern take on the WCW BattleBowl/Lethal Lottery concept, where names are drawn at random and wrestlers often at odds will be forced to team.

MJF and Cole faced off in the ring on this week’s Dynamite in a promo segment, where Tony Schiavone revealed that Cole and MJF were the first names drawn for the tournament. The two went to a time limit draw in a World title eliminator match on last week’s Dynamite. Cole asked for a rematch on this week’s show, but MJF declined the offer.

The full bracket for the blind eliminator tournament will be revealed on next week’s Dynamite. The tournament winners will receive a shot at FTR’s AEW World Tag Team Championship.
