AAA Triplemania XXXIII live results: Four-way Mega title match

The first AAA Triplemania of the WWE era emanates from Arena CDMX in Mexico City, airing live and free on YouTube.

The headliner will feature El Hijo del Vikingo defending his AAA Mega title in a four-way against WWE main roster talents Dominik Mysterio, Dragon Lee and El Grande Americano.

In a street fight, main roster members and reigning AAA Tag Team Champions Angel & Berto defend against Pagano & Psycho Clown.

In a mixed trios match, Judgment Day’s Finn Balor, JD McDonagh and Raquel Rodriguez face Nino Hamburguesa, Mr. Iguana & Lola Vice.

The Reina de Reinas title will be on the line in a three-way as Flammer defends against Faby Apache and Natalya.

The Latin American title will also be defended as champion El Mesias faces El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.

The card is rounded out by a Copa Bardahl match, similar to a Royal Rumble in terms of entrances but eliminations happen via pin.

Our live coverage begins at 9 PM Eastern.

**********

I am the perfect audience for this as I’m not a regular, if any, watcher of either CMLL or AAA, but I’m obviously very familiar with the World Wrestling Federation. Will this hook me? Read on and find out.

I found it notable that the WWE stinger that airs at the beginning of all WWE shows also aired here, even though the sale hasn’t officially gone through yet. That was followed by a really well done intro video with nods to the past, the current, and the future.

Within the first few minutes, this 100% felt like a WWE production. Is that good or bad for the longtime fans? That’s not for me to say.

AAA executives, Triple H, Nick Khan, and Shawn Michaels were all in the ring to start the show, leading into the Mexican national anthem. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Khan ever on WWE so this is quite a moment for nerds like me.

Walk-ins from all the major talent were shown as were the AAA announce team. Corey Graves, Konnan and JBL are on the call with Jesus Zuinga as our ring announcer. Konnan will also be inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame by Rey Mysterio.

And with that, we’re off.

Copa Bardahl match

As you read above, this is Royal Rumble-style in terms of entrances but eliminations are by pinfall only.

La Parka was the first entrant, coming in with a Thriller knock-off song and full dance routine which I certainly did not hate. AAA Cruiserweight Champion Laredo Kid (who has worked plenty in TNA through the years) was as entrant two. Kid got a near fall off a 450 which led to Joaquin Wilde from WWE as entrant no. 3.

Shortly after, Abismo Negro Jr. was no. 4 and impressive quickly with his power moves. Then, Taurus (apparently a new version?) was in at no. 5 which as someone that regularly watches AEW, is a strange visual to say the least. Aerostar was in next at no. 6 and took his time getting into the ring. It’s hitting me that this is the perfect match to start this show with so many new fans watching that have zero idea who is in AAA (like me!).

Laredo Kid was eliminated by Aerostar by tossing him over the top which I thought was just by pin only, but I’m learning as we go. That led to Mecha Wolf (former NWA Tag Team Champion) as no. 7 and Cruz Del Toro from WWE was in at no. 8. Wolf eliminated Wilde over the top after spraying mist in his eyes.

Then, things picked up as WWE’s Otis was no. 9, tossing Aerostar over the damn ring post to eliminate him. He then did a worm on Negro Jr. The fans were loving this. Pimpinella was out at no. 10 which was a sight to see and then some. Taurus was then eliminated by a double Pimpinella and Otis clotheslineand I am already loving this show. Otis then teased kissing Pimpinella before accidentally eliminating Pimpinella after getting dropkicked over the top rope.

Cibernetico was in at no. 11, followed by the one and only MICROMAN at no. 12 who seems destined to appear in WWE by year’s end. After fighting off elimination, Cibernetico was eliminated by Otis who picked Microman up and used him as a weapon to do so. Well, then.

No. 13? WWE’s Omos. We’ll see how his NOAH training prepared him for this moment. The remaining people in the ring then all attacked him one-by-one and got taken out one-by-one. This led to, yes, a Microman and Omos interaction in an image that needs to be seen to be believed. Omos then picked Microman up by his head and people shrieked with what he might do. Shrieked, I tell you.

He then eliminated Negro Jr. and Del Toro at the same time before the final entrant was revealed: Octagon Jr. who won last year’s Copa Bardahl. Otis took his shot at Omos and failed, but Microman took advantage and pinned Otis to eliminate him. Omos then picked Microman up high above his head and threatened to toss him into the stands, instead tossing him onto Negro Jr. and Del Toro at ringside to eliminate him.

Parka, Octagon and Mecha Wolf then teamed up to try and take Omos out, but then turned on each other while Omos just awkwardly hung out in the corner. Parka eliminated Wolf and Omos eliminated Octagon with a big boot while he was on the apron.

That left the first entrant and Omos. Parka teased eliminating Omos and had him teetering on the apron, but Omos grabbed Parka with a chokehold and simply pulled him up over the ropes to throw him to the outside for the win.

This match was a lot of fun with a good blend of AAA and WWE talent. Omos has apparently returned, but I could see him go into mothballs again until next year’s Copa.

Match Result: Omos won the Copa Bardahl

-Dragon Lee did a backstage interview in both English and Spanish, neither of which moved me.

-It was time for celeb crowd shots which includes Triple H, Nick Khan and AAA execs, someone named Pipe Punk, and Dr. Wagner Jr. who was sporting a tremendous fur coat and glasses combo.

AAA Latin American Champion El Mesias (w/ Dorian Roldan) defends against El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.

Mesias is 50 and has held the title for 280 days with three successful title defenses. My guess is the 33-year-old goes over here, but what do I know? Mesias was out in an homage to Doctor Doom of Marvel fame.

I do give WWE credit as they are not shying away from the majority of the presentation being in all Spanish minus the English commentary team. I wonder how long that will continue. One thing TKO must love is all the logos on the mat which is right up their financial alley.

Commentary did a great job establishing Mesias’ background with the elder Wagner Jr. and why there is history here. Father did not love when Roldan attacked his son on the outside of the ring and neither did the fans. Mesias then threatened to rip his son’s mask off in front of him. Konnan leaned into his rivalry with Wagner Jr., siding with Mesias.

Wagner Jr. rallied after a double clothesline spot, firing up and nearly getting the win after a big splash and then again after a power bomb and Wagner Driver. Roldan jumped up on the apron and his father could take it no more. However, Roldan put on his old mask to taunt the father but got socked anyway.

Mesias hit his big finisher, but Wagner Jr. kicked out. He got distracted by the father on the outside of the ring and got superplexed followed by another Wagner driver that got the pin and his first title win.

This started out a bit meh and got really fun when Wagner Jr. got involved on his son’s behalf which just added to the heat. Konnan’s annoyance on commentary only added to the fun.

Vero Rodriguez interviewed the new champion after the match while Konnan called him an ass kisser. This was only in Spanish, so I have no idea what he said.

Match Result: El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. defeated Mesias to become the AAA Latin American Champion

-Chuey Martinez interviewed Judgment Day in the back but took off when Rey Mysterio Jr. entered the frame. They disrespected him in both English and Spanish.

-A Cricket ad with Penta aired. Never saw that in AEW.

-A celebrity named Natalia MX (an “influencer”) was shown. Like with their other properties, WWE is leaning heavy into that culture.

Judgment Day (Finn Balor, JD McDonagh & Raquel Rodriguez) (w/ Roxanne Perez) vs. Nino Hamburguesa, Mr. Iguana & Lola Vice

Back when I was watching Valerie Loureda compete on Bellator undercards, I wouldn’t have guessed her higher calling would be in WWE as Lola Vice but she’s absolutely perfect for it.

This was a party match which the fans loved, especially Hamburguesa as the babyface in peril and Iguana, because, well, he’s Iguana. Hamburguesa eventually got the hot tag to Iguana who cleaned house. As Iguana was running wild, Balor jumped up on the apron to reveal…Demonito, his own puppet done up as his Demon character. Iguana was perplexed and Demonito ate the iguana. Yes, that is a sentence I just wrote in 2025.

Hamburguesa then brought in two burgers and gave Balor one which led to an Iguana enziguri to knock him out of the ring. Hamburguesa then hit a tope on Balor and McDonagh after a Iguana dive, leaving Vice and Rodriguez.

Perez shoved Vice off the top which led to Hiedra running out but she accidentally hit Vice and then chased Perez to the back. Rodriguez then hit her Tejana bomb for the pin and win.

Again, this was a fun party match. The end felt kind of flat with the run-in, but it is what it is.

Match Result: Judgment Day defeated Nino Hamburguesa, Mr. Iguana & Lola Vice

-Brian “El Shulito” Calderon (a singer with 1.1 million Instagram followers) was shown.

AAA Tag Team Champions Los Garza (Angel & Berto) defend against Psycho Clown & Pagano in a street fight

At one point, both Berto and Angel seemed destined to be released as they had no real fit on the WWE main roster. Yet, this team has revitalized them and feels right. This AAA relationship came at a perfect time.

I was interested if this would be a WWE street fight or a AAA street fight (maybe they are the same?) and this felt like the former. It basically stayed in the ring the entire time and felt like a house show street fight with kendo sticks, garbage cans and tables. There was an impressive double press slam on Pagano through a non-Slim Jim table in the ring which led to more tables being brought in. Pagano speared the champions through a table as they were trying to suplex Clown through it.

Pagano and Clown were put through side-by-side tables on the outside of the ring after a Jericho-style springboard dropkick by Berto while Angel had both men ensnared on the apron. Got that? Pagano and Clown rallied with “barbed wire,” wrapping it around Berto, followed by a Spanish fly off the top by Clown to give the challengers the title win in a bit of a surprise. That led to other Clowns coming out to celebrate.

The loss ends the two-month reign of Los Garza.

I do enjoy a good street fight, but this didn’t do anything for me.

Match Result: Pagano & Psycho Clown defeated Los Garza to win the AAA Tag Team titles

Rey Mysterio inducts Konnan into the AAA Hall of Fame

Mysterio spoke in Spanish, but there was also an English translator who was nearly impossible to hear as both men were talking essentially at the same time. Of note, there were “Alberto” chants to which Mysterio said “I’ll bring him. Wait on me.” or something to that effect.

The video featured R-Truth, Norman Smiley, Road Dogg and Penta giving their props in addition to a lot of WCW footage. Konnan thanked a lot of people, yelled at someone to sit down in the crowd twice, and put over the WWE relationship.

Assuming an increasingly English-speaking audience is the goal for WWE with these shows, production needs to figure out how to make the translator thing work as two men talking over each other is distracting.

-El Grande Americano was interviewed backstage in Spanish.

-Vikingo was also interviewed and heavily booed.

-During the night, ads also aired for WrestleMania in addition to the upcoming Canelo Alvarez fight being promoted by TKO.

-Attendance was announced as a sold-out 19,691.

-Briadana Deyanara Moreno (influencer) was shown followed by Mascarita Sagrada, Fantasma and Lady Shani which was quite a visual transition.

AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Flammer defends against Faby Apache and Natalya in a three-way

A loss here would end a 735-day reign (!) as champion for Flammer, one that began in August 2023 but only has five successful title defenses. Natalya came out as the Nattie Neidhart Bloodsport version of her character, aka “The Low Key Legend.” I could see a title change here for Natalya which would give her something notable on the resume.

Apache had a pin on Flammer, but did a super slow count for which the story wasn’t explained. He then did a quick count when Flammer attempted to pin Apache so clearly there’s a story. The fans were also chanting something at each other which wasn’t explained on commentary. Perhaps also distracted, Konnan did randomly say during the match that he can’t wait to see what AAA is like under WWE’s direction in the next year, two years and five years.

Natalya nearly got the win on a quick count on Apache, but Flammer took advantage of a distracted Apache who had just hit a Michinoku driver on Natalya, rolling her up for the pin with a quick count.

Afterward, Natalya and Apache got into it again and had to be separated.

Like the crowd, I wasn’t into this. This went just under 11 minutes and felt a lot longer.

Match Result: Flammer retained the AAA Reina de Reinas title in a three-way over Natalya and Lady Apache

The next Worlds Collide show was announced for Friday, September 12 at 10 PM Eastern from Las Vegas, right after SmackDown.

AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo defends against Dominik Mysterio, El Grande Americano and Dragon Lee in a four-way

Americano came out with a mariachi band and sang his way to the ring which the crowd absolutely loved followed by Lee with dragon wings and a Chinese dragon. Then, there was Mysterio, the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion who was beloved. Vikingo was shown backstage getting props from Rey Mysterio Jr. and also his father who was also roundly booed.

Of note, commentary didn’t say a god damn word during the entrances which I love, love, love. Let the performers have the moment and let us take everything in. Based on the reaction, the people want either Americano or Mysterio. Also, can we give props to Ludwig Kaiser for speaking perfect (I think) Spanish? Who knew that speaking multiple languages was such a plus in today’s WWE?

Perhaps too jacked up about the moment, Lee was off early, missing some kicks and a dropkick into the corner. He and Vikingo teamed up on the not-so-heels before competing against each other. It’s so wild to me to hear Vikingo booed considering how loved he is in the U.S.

As noted several times on commentary, this was, indeed, non-stop action (Total Nonstop Action, perhaps?). They went a little too strong into how great a match this was instead of just letting the action speak for itself.

Things broke down on the outside as the not-so-heels put Vikingo through the English announce table (EAT?) before turning on each other which distracted them from a Lee tope through the ropes. This also knocked out the broadcast team so it was quiet for a while.

Judgment Day came out to distract Lee and hold him in place for a 619 but Americano broke up the pin attempt. The LWO then ran out to even up the odds and the commentary team came back. Two of Americano’s mysterious masked men then came out to aid Americano and nearly won by pinning Lee after a Blockbuster.

He then tried to load the mask, but Lee prevented it and dove onto all the interfering parties on the outside of the ring. He then hit Operation Dragon on Americano, but Vikingo broke up the pin and nearly got one of his own after a 630.

Mysterio then put on his own Rey Mysterio Sr. mask, loaded it up, dumped Vikingo outside and headbutted both Americano and Lee, nearly getting the pin on Lee after a frog splash until a masked man pulled him off.

That was revealed to be AJ Styles who hit a Styles Clash on his rival Mysterio and then left. Vikingo took advantage, hitting a 630 to get the pin and successful title defense.

PHEW.

This was a beautifully chaotic WWE-style main event that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Match Result: El Hijo del Vikingo defeated Dominik Mysterio, Dragon Lee and El Grande Americano to retain the AAA Mega title

Triplemania Final Thoughts:

For a AAA noob like myself, this was an extremely entertaining three hours, capped by a fun main event. The street fight and women’s title match didn’t do much for me, but everything else checked the boxes for me. The WWE production gave it a familiar gloss which is either good or bad depending on your viewpoint.

If I’m a AAA hardcore, I’d love to hear from you. What did you think of tonight’s show and did it assuage your concerns about the future? Hit me up on X, BlueSky or good ol’ email.

AAA Invading NY live results: Cain Velasquez’s US in-ring debut

Lucha libre returns to New York City tonight as Invading NY takes place inside the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden.

Cain Velasquez is set for his first pro wrestling match in the United States, and his second match overall after debuting this summer in Mexico. On this card in New York he teams with Psycho Clown & Brian Cage against Texano Jr., Taurus & Rey Escorpion (who replaces Killer Kross).

Velasquez wrestling on the show is probably the most newsworthy attraction, but the trios match itself is billed as the semi-main.

The advertised main event is Blue Demon Jr vs. Dr Wagner Jr. in a continuation of their long rivalry. Their feud was seemingly blown off in an apuesta match at Triplemania, yet here they are once again facing off in a singles match as headliners.

The Lucha Brothers defend their AAA World Tag Team titles against challengers LAX. In another title match, Taya Valkyrie challenges Tessa Blanchard for the Reina de Reinas Championship.

Other AAA talent is scheduled for the show, but no other matches were announced ahead of time. More wrestlers from Impact were also expected to appear on the card.

Originally scheduled for the arena at Madison Square Garden, the show was eventually moved to the adjacent Hulu Theater. AAA previously ran the venue in the 1990s when the Hulu Theater was known as the Paramount Theater. This year, Impact Wrestling is co-promoting the show with AAA.

Invading NY is available on traditional pay-per-view and iPPV with an option of either Spanish or English commentary. Our live coverage begins at 6 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show opened with the ring announcers hyping the crowd. Hugo Savinovich and Matt Striker are calling the show in English. With the addition of Hugo, this is already the best AAA English language announce team ever (expect for maybe Mike Tenay & Chris Cruise on When Worlds Collide in 1994). That is however a low bar aside from When Worlds Collide.

Melissan Santos is the English language ring announcer.

Mascarita Dorada & Chris Dickinson defeated Dave the Clown & Demus

Dorada pinned Demus in an opener that connected pretty decently with the crowd. They loved Dorada. He did some David and Goliath spots with Dave the Clown. Dickinson was coming off of the Bloodsport show last night. What a vastly different show to wrestle on 24 hours later in relatively the same region. The match built to some highspot at the end. Dorada really got to shine. He did an amazing series of tilt-a-whirls before cradling Demus for the pinfall.

Team Impact (Josh Alexander, Michael Elgin & Sami Callihan) defeated Team AAA (Murder Clown, Drago & Faby Apache)

Elgin pinned Murder Clown after a Liger bomb. The match started with a wild brawl until settling into a more traditional trios match. Elgin really heeled on the crowd as they booed him a lot. Apache got to shine when she first made a save for Drago. Callihan stalked Apache, and then he spat in her face. She fired up and did a senton off the apron on Callihan. The rudos ganged up on Apache. She took a Magic Killer modified into a spike DDT. They got heat on her for several minutes.

Apache eventually countered into a Black Widow. Murder Clown cleaned house off a hot tag. The tecnicos rallied for a triple near fall. The rudos soon cut them off. Elgin did a double fallaway slam when he lifted both Drago and Apache. Drago moments later got a near fall with a Frakensteiner. Callihan executed a piledriver on Apache. Drago then hit Callihan with a Canadian Destroyer.

The parade of highspots continued until Murder Clown popped the crowd doing a tope con giro to the outside. Elgin cut off Clown and powerbombed him for the pinfall.

Daga defeated Puma King, Flamita and Aerostar in a four-way match

Daga pinned Puma King in a high flying spectacle. The match was really good if you like all action. Dagao becomes number one contender for AAA Cruiserweight Championship by winning this match. This was a video game stunt show. There was a ton of flying here, and too many highspots to keep track off. Everybody got their stuff in. Aerostar flew around like a wild man, but didn’t do anything too crazy. Puma King fought from underneath, but Daga ultimately delivered a Jay Driller for the pinfall.

Taya Valkyrie defeated Tessa Blanchard to win the Reina de Reinas Championship

Taya pinned Blanchard after the Road to Valhalla. This was really good. They hugged afterwards, but Tessa went heel and attacked her for a post-match beatdown. This built like an old school NWA title match, except it was filled with new age highspots. Blanchard is so damn great in the ring.

They started slow and built from there. The pace soon quickened. Taya fought from underneath. She did a flying crossbody off the top to the floor early on. Blachard dropkicked her into the ring steps, and then Blanchard turned up the heat. They had a slugfest after a double down as they match continued to build. Taya made a comeback, but Tessa caught her with a Canadian Destroyer for a near fall.

Taya kept getting near falls down the stretch. Blachard delivered a cutter, and Taya answered back with a knee strike. Taya then lifted Tessa for the double chickenwing facebuster, and Taya covered her for the title change.

They hugged and embraced after the match when Taya extended her hand to help Blanchard off the mat. Blanchard then heeled on her for a post-match attack where she got her heat back.

AAA World Tag Team Champions Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) defeated LAX (Ortiz & Santana) to retain their titles

Pentagon pinned Santana to win the match for his team. This was spectacular at times. The beginning of the match was typical Lucha Bros fare — meaning Pentagon milked “ciero miedo” and Fenix flew around doing crazy cool spots. The highspots only got crazier from there. There was a lot of tandem offense and intricate sequences.

LAX would not be outshined. They did dual dives over the ropes with each doing a tope con giro. That turned the tide in their favor for a moment. The false finishes began in the second half of the match. Ortiz with a reverse rana, and Santana followed with a big splash off the tope on Fenix. Pentagon made a save. He would do the same a few minutes later.

They all traded near falls. Lucha Bros got a double near fall doing a Sabu-RVD combo. LAX answered back with a two count off a frog splash. Penta traded Canadian Destroyers with LAX. Santana flew to the outside, and then LAX with a Doomsday Blockbuster for another close near fall.

Lucha Bros did their Mexican Destroyer finishing sequence. For that finish, Fenix drapped himself in the Mexican flag before he leapt off the top with a double foot stomp that assisted Pentagon with as a stuff package piledriver on Santana. Fenix — still drapped in the flag — flipped into a tope con giro to the outside to dispatch Ortiz. Pentagon then covered Santana for the pinfall.

Cain Velasquez, Psycho Clown & Brian Cage defeated Los Mercenarios (Texano Jr., Taurus & Rey Escorpion)

Velasquez pinned Taurus after doing a Lethal Injection. Yes, a freaking Lethal Injection. He looked good again. He did some MMA spots, but he also did plenty of lucha libre. Velasquez did a tilt-a-whirl and a flying headscissors. Plus he flew outside doing a crossbody off the top rope to the floor. He squared off with Taurus at the start, and they both would go on to be the two involved in the finish.

The trios match was given a last minute no DQ stipulation. I thought that would mean lots of weapons and/or blood, but it instead just meant the rudos got to cheat. They got heat on Cage until Psycho Clown ran wild off after a hot tag. Escorpion cut him off and ripped at his mask. Psycho answered back with a Code Red. The rudos’ spots kept backfiring on them. Texano brought his bullrope into the ring, but he whipped Escorpion by mistake. Psycho then got the bullrope and whipped the rudos.

Velasquez got back in the ring and executed a flying headscissors. Psycho and Cage did flip dives to the outside. Cain followed with a flying crossbody off the top on to everybody on the floor. Taurus cut off Cain, but Cage made a save to give Taurus a buckle bomb. Cage dealifted Taurus into a superplex. Texano rushed in to catch Cage with a sit-out powerbomb. Psycho then caught Texano with a sunset powerbomb. Escorpion press slamed Psycho into a gutbuster.

Velasquez was cleaning house when Escorpion fouled him. Velasquez regrouped for a tilt-a-whirl that he followed with a handspring into a cutter (Lethal Injection) on Taurus for the pinfall.

There was a ceremony celebrating Mexican independence with the Grito de Independencia. Mexico celebrates its Independence Day tomorrow.

Dr. Wagner Jr. defeated Bliue Demon Jr.

Wagner pinned Demon after rolling through to counter a flying crossbody. Wagner wrestled with his mask until he unmasked himself just before the finish. The closing moments were clunky as the finish did not go smooth. Impact wrestlers attacked Wagner after the match, and the AAA roster ran down to make the save for brawl that closed the show.

Some of their previous bouts were bloodbaths, but this was a basic match with no blood. Striker on commentary tried putting the match over as a chance to see witness a classic rivalry. Sure, okay.

They started slow as they worked the crowd, and they built to Demon doing a tope suicida through the ropes. That set up the heat spot as Demon began working over Wagner.

Wagner eventually made a comeback. He and Demon ripped and tore each other’s mask.

Wagner dared Demon to hit him, and Wagner then unmasked and fired up into a lariat for a botched two count. Demon then climbed the turnbuckles and jumped off into a flying crossbody. Wagner rolled through and covered Demon for the pinfall.

Impact wrestlers ran in after the match to attack Wagner. The AAA roster poured into the ring for the save. AAA stood tall over Impact after a short brawl. The AAA crew cleared the ring, and Wagner cut a promo before the show went off the air. During the melee, Cain Velasquez caught Callihan in a cross armbreaker.

Final Thoughts —

Overall, the show was good as far as match quality. There was not much on the show that was bad. It was far from the usual AAA trainwreck. However, the show felt more like a house show than a PPV. Most of the matches felt thrown together for the sake of filling out the card. Probably because much of the undercard was just that.

The women’s title match with Taya against Tessa Blanchard was good, and it stood out on this card. It was much more of a main event caliber match than the main event itself. Blue Demon facing Dr. Wagner was not bad, but it was more like an exhibition match than the continuation of a blood feud.

Cain Velasquez looked like a natural in his second match. He was in the match that was arguably the best thing on the show. Let the bidding war over him begin.

AAA Verano de Escandalo results: Jeff Jarrett and Fenix appear

Submitted by Patrick Tobin

– Arkangel Divino, Star Fire, Dinastia & El Hijo del Vikingo defeated Ultimo Maldito, Belial, Arez & Lady Maravilla

This was a crazy spotfest opening match, with everyone hitting all kinds of huge moves and dives. The only noticeable botches were Dinastia and Belial not having great timing with one another, and one point where Hijo del Vikingo seemed to almost slip while running on the top rope.

Everyone worked super hard. Star Fire in particular seemed to have something to prove, but Arkangel Divino was the star of the match. Arkangel Divino won with a really spectacular La Mistica on Ultimo Maldito.

– Mamba, Pimpinela Escarlata & Lady Shani defeated Black Danger, La Hiedra & Keyra

Keyra was making a surprise debut. Mamba and her continued their feud that they’ve had going on the indies. Pimpinela almost killed Black Danger with a senton to the outside, landing right on Black Danger’s head. Shani pinned La Hiedra.

After the match, Faby Apache came out, pulled off Shani’s mask, and challenged her to a mask vs. hair Reina de Reinas title match at Triplemania.

– La Parka came out and cut a promo on the MAD group. Fans chanted “LA Park” at him.

– El Texano Jr., Juventud Guerrera & Killer Kross defeated La Mascara, Maximo & Pagano

Mostly just a match. Kross put Pagano through a table at ringside before later getting the pin on Maximo.

–  Aerostar defeated Golden Magic, Darby Allin, Australian Suicide, Sammy Guevara, and Drago

This was all big moves, but not as wild as the opening match. Allin, Guevara, and Golden Magic were debuting, with Golden Magic debuting as a surprise. Guevara and Allin got in all their signature stuff.

Aerostar pinned Guevara, then rudo ref El Hijo del Tirantes fast-counted for the win. The fans were confused and it seemed like it could have been a botch of some kind. Aerostar and Guevara brawled after the match.

– Juventud Guerrera, Killer Kross (with a guitar), and a limping hooded figure the announcers said was Konnan came out. It was very obviously not Konnan. Guerrera cut a promo, then the hooded man took off his hood and it was Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett challenged AAA Mega Champion Dr. Wagner Jr., who accepted for tonight, making the main event a three-way. La Parka ran out to help Wagner run MAD off.

– Rey Escorpion, Brian Cage & El Hijo Del Fantasma defeated Psycho Clown, Xtreme Tiger & Laredo Kid

This was supposed to be Escorpion & Cage vs. Fantasma & Psycho Clown, but Fantasma and Psycho hate each other in storyline and immediately started fighting. Cage and Escorpion helped Fantasma in a three-on-one until Xtreme Tiger and Laredo Kid ran in. (this was a surprise return for both).

They had an okay match, but the power in the arena went out during it an all the lights went dark. They had to stretch the match out until the power could come back on. Eventually, Cage pinned Laredo Kid with the Drill Claw/Steiner Screwdriver.

– Los OGT’s (Averno, Chessman & Super Fly) defeated El Poder del Norte (Mocho Cota Jr., Carta Brava Jr. & Tito Santana)

This was the best match of the night if you like wild brawls. Everyone bled, and people went through tables, hit big dives, nailed each other with a ton of chair shots, and on and on. Throughout the match, Averno kept trying to use a full bottle of beer as a weapon, but the referee kept stopping him.

During a ref bump, Mocho Cota Jr. got the bottle and tried to hit Super Fly with it. Super Fly moved, so Mocho Cota Jr. smashed the bottle right into Carta Brava Jr.’s forehead. Super Fly hit Mocho Cota with a chair before pinning Carta Brava for the win.

El Poder del Norte were emotional getting their hair cut, and Los OGT’s cut promos putting them over. All six guys lifted each other’s arms when it was all over.

– Jeff Jarrett defeated Dr. Wagner Jr. and Rey Mysterio to win the AAA Mega Championship

Jarrett stalled, and stalled, and stalled, and stalled, and stalled to start. Finally, Wagner and Mysterio started teaming up on him. El Hijo del Tirantes, the referee, started interfering and fast-counting for Jarrett, tripping Mysterio, and so on, until finally Wagner got sick of it and laid him out with a Wagner Driver.

With no referee, someone dressed as La Parka in a ref’s shirt ran out (it was clearly not La Parka), counted two for Wagner, and then stopped. Then Jarrett got a pin and fake La Parka fast-counted to give Jarrett the win and the title.

Vampiro ran out afterwards and unmasked the fake La Parka, revealing Konnan. The rest of MAD ran out and laid out Vampiro, Wagner, and Mysterio. At the very end of the show, in a surprise return, Fenix came out to chase MAD off.

AAA Triplemania XXV live results: Psycho Clown vs. Dr. Wagner Jr.

A mask match over a year in the making headlined Triplemania XXV on Saturday night in Mexico City. The masks of Psycho Clown and Dr. Wagner Jr. were at stake on a show at Arena Ciudad that likely set a box office record for lucha libre.

Psycho Clown took the coveted mask of Dr. Wagner Jr. in the main event at the 25th installment of the annual supercard for what was billed as the “Match of the Decade.”

Elsewhere on the card, Johnny Mundo defended his triple crown of three different AAA championships in a three-way ladder match against El Texano Jr. and Hijo del Fantasma. Mundo did an angle with Vampiro afterwards.

Sexy Star defended her Reina de Reinas Championship in a four-way women’s match that could prove controversial based Star’s actions at the end of the match.

In another title match, Monster Clown & Murder Clown became the new AAA World Tag Team Champions on a show were clowns fared very well.

The show itself was a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Sometimes all those happened in the same match.

Sexy Star submitted Rosemary with an armbar. This was tornado rules with everyone fighting at once in a wild match. They were beating the heck out of each other. Shani was busted open underneath her mask. They brought in a chair. The English announcers were wondering if the match was no DQ when the luchadoras started cracking each other with the chair. That settled the debate. They also used a sheetmetal garbage can. FMW lives! Rosemary went to the top rope, but Sexy Star caught here in an armbar. Rosemary tapped out, and Sexy Star refused to break the hold before doing so having retained her title.

Next was Histeria, Maniaco & Psicosis. They were followed by Scorpio Jr., Zumbido & Decnis. Fantasma and Mundo slugged it out atop a ladder. Texano set up a ladder beside them and joined the slugfest. Fantasma shoved Texano off the ladder, and he bumped through a table. Mundo knocked Fantasma off the ladder.

Mundo then began taking the belts down. His music (Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA”) began playing before Mundo even grabbed the third belt. Good thing he still won when he pulled down the third title, or that would have looked awkward. It still kind of did anyway.

After the match, Mundo cut a promo. He called out Vampiro, and Mundo wanted Vampiro to put the belts around his waist. Mundo cussed Vampiro and called him a “bitch-made mark” a couple of times. Vampiro would not fight back.

Mundo slapped Vampiro across the face and spat at him. Mundo cussed him so more, until Vampiro could take no more. Vampiro grabbed Mundo by the throat and delivered a chokeslam. Vampiro then cut a promo on Mundo.

Texano and Fantasma started fighting again. They hit each other with chairshots to the head, and they continued to bleed. They started to brawl until they were separated by officials and security.

Wagner kept pummeling Psycho as he continued to sell. Psycho fired up into a comeback, and he got a two count from a crucifix. Psycho got another near fall with a rollup. Psycho then began doing dives. He went for a flip dive onto Wagner’s son, and landed hard on the floor when he barely connected.

Wagner got a two count after a Wagner Driver (Michinoku Driver). Psycho also kicked out of a second Wagner Driver.

In the closing moments, Psycho gave Wagner a superplex followed by a lungblower. Psycho Clown used a Code Red to finish off Wagner as he covered him for the pinfall.

Dr. Wagner Jr. must unmask.

Maximo and La Mascara, relatives of Psycho Clown, joined him in the ring to celebrate. Psycho brought his child into the ring. Wagner’s son consoled his father.
