WWE 205 Live results: Pumpkins, brooms & skeletons fly on Halloween

Last night’s 205 Live was a special Halloween-themed episode that took place in Norfolk, Virginia.

The show opened with a recap of the Drew Gulak and Akira Tozawa feud that started when Gulak began his transformation into a wrestling moralist, complete with a “No Chants” sign, while promising to save the division from “unnecessary top-rope dives.”

Gulak hammered on Tozawa two weeks ago, beating him with his sign, but last week Tozawa got him back, doing a run-in after his match with Gran Metalik.

This brought us to our first match of the night.

Akira Tozawa defeated Drew Gulak

Gulak grabbed the microphone and screamed “My name is Drew Gulak and where my guls at?” He then mocked Tozawa’s “Ah, Ah, Ah” chant, saying he would put an end to it once and for all. He then welcomed the crowd into his “Drewtopia,” and offered a plan for “a better Halloween,” via a PowerPoint presentation.

Slide number one: No Candy. “Instead, try a sweet potato, they are high in potassium,” Gulak said.

Slide number two: No Trick or Treating. “Your little ones get together and say ‘trick or treat.’ They might as well be chanting. And there is nothing worse than chanting!” Gulak said.

At slide number three, Tozawa ran out to start the match.

Tozawa, who has some great facials, quickly wrapped Gulak up in a leg scissors and took control of the match with kicks, punches, and stomps to the chest in the corner. Gulak played his heel role well, rolling out of the ring to buy time. Gulak crept back in and snuck in a boot to the stomach, followed by a reverse knife edge chop to take back control of the match briefly.

Tozawa countered with a stiff elbow, but Gulak regained the advantage after an Irish whip reversal. Gulak hammered him with elbows and a clothesline in the corner. Tozawa reversed the action with a standing hurricanrana and then a belly-to-back suplex.

Gulak rolled out of the ring and Tozawa hit an amazing headbutt after diving through the ropes.

Tozawa battered him inside the ring some more and then hit his back splash off the top rope to get the victory.

Next we got a promo package and an interview with Rich Swann and Cedric Alexander, where they seemed to be headed toward an Alexander turn. Next was footage from Raw, where Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore beat up on Kalisto, which led to Raw GM Kurt Angle booking a Survivor Series title match between Amore and Kalisto.

Rich Swann (w/ Cedric Alexander) defeated Brian Kendrick (w/ Jack Gallagher)

Alexander and Swann both came to the ring dressed as clowns, with Doink the Clown’s music playing.

Swann’s red clown nose fell off just as the match was about to start. The two tried to lock up in a Greco-Roman knuckle lock, but Swann was wearing giant clown gloves, turning the spot into comedy. Swann’s rainbow-colored wig fell off and he put it back on. The wig fell off again, as the match degenerated into one clown spot after another. When Kendrick tried to whip Swann into the ropes, Swann’s glove fell off and Kendrick was frustrated.

Kendrick became increasingly frustrated, which led to him making mistakes. Swann showed off his agility in the match, demonstrating a high leapfrog, then a big dropkick. Kendrick threw Swann outside of the ring. Gallagher looked like he was going to hit Swann with his umbrella, but Alexander walked over and backed him off.

Kendrick controlled the match when Swann entered the ring again, but Swann rallied, showcasing some impressive aerial moves, including a standing hurricanrana off the top rope.

He hit a flip over the top rope to the outside on Kendrick. Swann then hit a twisted splash off the middle rope for the win. Gallagher tried to interfere, but he was knocked off the apron by Alexander. A good match, despite the clown comedy at the beginning.

Mustafa Ali defeated Ariya Daivari, Tony Nese, and Gran Metalik in a Fright Night fatal four-way match

Daivari looks to have taken over Austin Aries’ attire. He cut a promo about joining forces with Amore and then started speaking in Persian before he was interrupted by Ali, who was throwing out candy to the audience members.

Ali spent the first part of the match giving his opponents candy. Nese refused, saying “I don’t eat candy.” He slapped the candy out of Ali’s hand as the match started. Pumpkins were set up on the ring apron.

Ali and Metalik put on an acrobatic clinic that, for a moment, resembled Ricochet and Will Ospreay, but then it was broken up by Nese and Daivari.

Daivari eventually found a bowl of candy on a table at ringside. Fishing through it, he discovered a Gran Metalik mask. Daivari put the mask on and then mocked Metalik by doing his cartwheel and rolling moves. Ali broke it up.

In a bizarre spot, Ali removed Daivari’s mask and then put it on a ringside skeleton. He threw the masked skeleton on Daivari, setting up Metalik to hit a dropkick on the skeleton and Daivari.

At ringside were candy corn kendo sticks. Daivari and Ali grabbed them and started to unload on Ali. Nese then started throwing pumpkins at Ali from a sit-up position.

The match ended with Daivari falling into a bucket of apples, Ali shoving a Twix bar into the mouth of Nese, and pumpkins flying everywhere. Nese found a black bag under the ring that during the 1990s hardcore era would have been filled with thumbtacks. On Halloween in 2017, it was filled with candy corn. Nese dumped the candy corn on the table and attempted a powerbomb, only to have it reversed into a back body drop by Metalik through the table.

Ali eventually won the match after he found a broom, put it through his legs, and dove onto Nese for the three count. Ali celebrated with the skeleton after the match.

WWE 205 Live results: Enzo Amore defends against Kalisto

The show started off with a recap of Enzo Amore beating Kalisto for the Cruiserweight Championship at TLC by using a thumb to the eye and then hitting Eat Defeat.

Rich Swann came down for a tag team match with Cedric Alexander, but their win from TLC was showcased before their opponents entered. Alexander and Swann were in matching black and green gear, which was a great touch. Noam Dar and Tony Nese provided the competition for them tonight.

Rich Swann & Cedric Alexander defeated Tony Nese & Noam Dar

Nese posed, but Alexander grabbed him and flipped around to get an edge. A big dropkick sent Nese down so Alexander could pose to mock him. Alexander tagged Swann in, leading to a suplex/rolling thunder double team getting two for the babyface duo. Dar ate a dropkick, but Nese was still legal and bowled Swann over.

Dar came in legally and snapmared Swann into the ropes before attacking the knee, then Nese came in to attack with a tree of woe. Nese did the ab crunch kicks before Dar tagged in and did them poorly, so Nese told him how to do them properly and came back in.

Swann hit the knockout kick, but Dar pulled Swann off the cover and tagged himself in. Alexander got a hot tag and ran wild with a big elbow and the handspring enzuigiri kick hit for a near fall.

Brian Kendrick and Jack Gallagher came down and briefly distracted Alexander, giving Dar the chance to get a front choke. Swann superkicked him to make a save and dove to take out Nese on the floor. The Lumbar Check hit on Dar and ended it — so Swann and Alexander have now won two straight matches.

Kendrick and Gallagher said they aren’t here to hurt them — they are impressed by Alexander and his cruelty. He has a lot of potential — but can’t live up to it if he’s carrying Rich Swann on his back. Gallagher said that he was fighting for approval too, but the people don’t matter and neither does Swann. Wolves shouldn’t concern themselves with the sheep, because as cruel men, they can rise above them.

Gallagher said that he’ll give Alexander a week, because if he doesn’t make the right choice, Swann is next and will be victimized next week.

Drew Gulak walked backstage before coming out for a match

Gulak was out and said he believes in a better 205 Live and he is upset over his PowerPoint presentation being taken away at TLC. Gulak noted that due to the fans chanting Akira Tozawa’s “Ha!” at home tonight, he is canceling all of the matches. So to fill time, he will show all of the slides of his PowerPoint presentation!

Gulak only got through slide one before Gran Metalik interrupted. How very rude of him! Gulak told him to stay on the ground, but I bet Metalik will violate that rule too.

Drew Gulak defeated Gran Metalik

Metalik grounded him with a headscissors before Gulak escaped and got locked in an arm wringer. Gulak applied a headlock alongside an “Austin Aries” chant. Metalik hit a rana and, as a form of a flip, Gulak was angered greatly. A springboard missile dropkick then hit for Metalik, and Gulak went outside and ate a ropewalk moonsault.

Gulak grounded him with a kneeling chinbar before turning it into a hammerlock. Metalik superkicked Gulak and hit an inverted slingblade to send him down. Metalik hit the ropewalk splash. They went back and forth on cradles for two before a super rana hit and got a near fall for Metalik.

Gulak avoided the Metalik Driver and locked on the body-trapping dragon sleeper to win it. Gulak went to take the knee out from Metalik, but Tozawa returned and sent Gulak packing.

Kalisto cut a promo and said he’ll win tonight. Ariya Daivari entered and did Amore’s promo since he still can’t talk. Amore opted to do wacky dances, which he’s good at, before wrestling — which he isn’t quite as good at. Daivari did the best promo work of his career playing the role of Amore.

Nigel McGuinness talked about Kalisto’s young life and how his parents came to America as immigrants and lived in the attic of a friend’s house in a neighborhood full of violence. Wow, he actually made it very easy to care about a babyface and it only took 30 seconds.

Kalisto defeated WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore by DQ

Kalisto started things off quickly and sent Amore outside. Amore tried to escape after being thrown in, but Kalisto stomped on his fingers. Kalisto went for corner mount punches, but Amore sent him outside. This got a pair of high-numbered counts, but Kalisto made it back in both times before Amore kicked him down.

Amore teased a superplex off the top to the floor but opted to send him down ribs-first on the top turnbuckle. Amore went for Eat Defeat on the apron, but Kalisto turned it into the windmill driver on the apron! Well, that was pretty crazy. This got a nine count on the floor and resulted in a “lucha” chant.

Amore went for the DDG until Kalisto hit a high kick. Amore ate a tornado DDT, but he then kicked the referee into the ropes to crotch Kalisto for a DQ. Kalisto charged after him and beat him down, but Amore got the mic and said he’s still Cruiserweight Champion — how you doin’?

WWE 205 Live results: Kalisto & Ali vs. Amore & Daivari

We started things off with a recap of Monday night’s confrontation with Enzo Amore and Kurt Angle, along with Amore’s match with Kalisto and eventual title loss. Vic Joseph and Nigel McGuinness then introduced the show and hyped up the TJP vs. Rich Swann two-out-of-three falls match.

Renee Young was mid-ring and introduced Kalisto. He said he’s the first luchador to hold the Cruiserweight title and he’ll do it in Eddie Guerrero’s honor. That brought Amore and Ariya Daivari out, and Amore told Kalisto he isn’t here to crash his party. Amore called himself the godfather of the division and said the loserweights are his sons — and disappointing ones at that.

Amore said that Kalisto is a bit like Eddie Guerrero — he had to lie, cheat, and steal to get the title. Amore said that he put the title around high-end brands like Versace because he’s got tons of money, but there won’t be any money in the division with Kalisto on top. Daivari jumped Kalisto and a brawl erupted before Mustafa Ali came down to make the save. I smell a tag match, playa.

Rich Swann came down to the ring to face TJP. Swann told TJP that he gave him this match — but it will end their friendship.

Rich Swann defeated TJP in a two-out-of-three falls match

Swann dove onto TJP to start things off quickly. TJP recovered and tossed him into a barricade. TJP threw Swann into the ring and went for the kneebar — but Swann turned it into a cradle to score the first fall. It was then announced that Kalisto & Ali would face Amore & Daivari in the main event.

TJP landed a slick dropkick as the second fall began before taunting a bit and locking on a chinlock. He transitioned it into a straightjacket choke and locked on a cloverleaf, but Swann escaped. Swann went for a Tiger Driver, but TJP turned it into a DDT and cradled him for two. Swann was able to hit the Tiger Driver for a two count of his own.

Swann went for a standing frog splash, but TJP turned it into a cradle for two. TJP sent him outside with an awkward landing before dropkicking the knee. A big spin kick hit for Swann, with it getting a close near fall. TJP locked on the kneebar, but Swann escaped. Swann hit a rolling thunder and landed a Phoenix Splash to end it with a clean sweep. Well, that was surprising.

Amore cut a promo on Ali before Drew Gulak came in and asked them to pay attention to his PowerPoint presentations. Gulak said he can’t stand to see Kalisto as champion — he dresses like a goof! Gulak may not agree with Amore’s bombastic personality, but he too is woke! Amore asked what on earth just occurred, and the correct answer is “greatness” courtesy of Drew Gulak. Gulak said he’ll show what he means against Tozawa.

Tozawa entered to face Gulak, but Gulak jumped him before the match. Gulak tossed him into the tron and used his “no chants” board as a weapon by ramming it into Tozawa’s throat.

McGuinness called the attack nasty, leading to Joseph transitioning into talking about the previous attack of Cedric Alexander by Brian Kendrick and Jack Gallagher. Alexander was interviewed about his divide and conquer tactics from last week, with him saying that he has an edge and knows who he is. He then rattled off about a thousand unrelated statements to end this.

Kalisto and Ali came out for the main event first, then Amore skipped down and told Kalisto to find a good surgeon because they’re going to destroy his nose. Amore did his “S-A-W-F-T” bit as McGuinness said that he hopes he’ll learn to spell “soft” properly.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Kalisto & Mustafa Ali defeated Enzo Amore & Ariya Daivari

Ali slugged away at Amore, but Daivari knocked him off the apron with a boot. Amore punted Ali’s ribs and tagged in Daivari to run his knee into the gut before a reverse bear hug. McGuinness then sang a song from Aladdin and Amore ate a big kick.

The faces sent Amore and Daivari outside for a double dive to gain a big edge, then Daivari ate the Salida Del Sol to end it. Amore dragged Daivari out before Kalisto did his “lucha” chant.

They’ve gone all-in with Amore as a heel here, with him insulting Daivari after and also yelling at the ref throughout the match. Amore still feels like the true top act, while Kalisto feels like a bigger star than he did before — but he doesn’t have the tools to even carry this version of the cruiserweight division. Comparing him to Eddie Guerrero regularly, and even mentioning Rey Mysterio while he’s out there, won’t help him in the slightest.

WWE 205 Live results: Kalisto makes his show debut

The Big Takeaway —

Enzo Amore’s issues with Kalisto started the show off strong, and Kalisto began his run on 205 Live with a strong outing against Ariya Daivari.

Drew Gulak’s PowerPoint presentation continued, much to the dismay of Akira Tozawa and Mustafa Ali. Ali blatantly disregarded the new “no flipping” edict, while Tozawa violated the “no chants” rule. Cedric Alexander got a more serious edge by attacking Brian Kendrick, while Kendrick’s ally Jack Gallagher battled against Alexander in the main event.

Show Recap —

Enzo Amore’s promo from Raw was recapped, then we saw the debut of Kalisto in the division. Surprisingly, they didn’t even try to add in a crowd reaction to it. Vic Joseph and Nigel McGuinness hyped up Kalisto vs. Ariya Daivari and Cedric Alexander vs. Jack Gallagher.

Kalisto is back to his “lucha lucha” theme and McGuinness compared him to Rey Mysterio Jr. Kalisto said the cruiserweights are the hardest workers, leading to Amore coming down. Amore buried his outfit for being horrible, saying he’d be ashamed to donate it to the Salvation Army — but he’s a good guy, so he’d still do it.

Kalisto showed Amore cheating to win the title to further the idea that the important things for the division happen on shows that aren’t this. Amore said that he’ll give Kalisto his due — he went toe-to-toe with Braun Strowman, but he left in the trash and hasn’t done anything since losing the US title. Amore hyped up Daivari and apologized for insulting him last night.

Kalisto defeated Ariya Daivari

Daivari slugged away to start things off, but Kalisto sent him out with a tilt-a-whirl headscissors. Daivari punched away more in the corner, but Kalisto hit the corkscrew crossbody and his snap rana for two.

Daivari countered the Salida del Sol and landed a frog splash for two. Kalisto then countered a pickup off the mat and ended it with the Salida del Sol. We got a replay of the frog splash — and it was pretty outstanding.

A replay aired of Jack Gallagher’s heel turn and his beating of Cedric Alexander last week, then Drew Gulak walked backstage to prepare to face Mustafa Ali. Gulak’s revamped news magazine-style theme is just perfect for this act.

Gulak talked about his Drewtopia and how Akira Tozawa ruined everyone’s chance to see the remainder of his 269 proposals — and if anyone missed his prior proposals, you can watch him on demand. Gulak got a “Yes” chant for the PowerPoint presentation and showed his new slide — no flipping.

Ali’s theme interrupted slide number nine, to the dismay of McGuinness. Tozawa further interrupted with a chair and his war cry.

Mustafa Ali defeated Drew Gulak

Gulak was kicked off to the floor before Tozawa did his war cry on the mic. Gulak marched around ringside with his “no chants” sign to further remind everyone that he is fantastic. Ali did a backflip and waved “Hi” to Gulak. Ali did a spinning rana that went a bit awry, but a crossbody off the top got two.

Gulak turned a tornado DDT into a slingshot knee strike for two. Gulak got a nerve hold, but Tozawa’s chant distracted him — so he turned it into a seated straightjacket choke. Ali hit a pop-up dropkick and a flying neckbreaker for two.

Ali ate a suplex into the buckle and Gulak set up something in the corner, but Tozawa’s chant distracted him and he did a charge into the corner that missed. The 054 then ended it for Ali. McGuinness demanded that this loss be stricken from the record due to the flips.

Dasha Fuentes talked to Brian Kendrick, who said that Gallagher is busy thinking of ways to torture Alexander. Kendrick said that he feels bad for being part of the mob that was against Amore, and he should have been there for him because he too had a locker room against him once. Kendrick said he stands by Amore now, then Alexander jumped him and attacked his left leg.

Gallagher entered in his full suit and tie while Alexander came down to the ring with a purpose.

Jack Gallagher defeated Cedric Alexander by DQ

Alexander started things off with intense forearm strikes to the jaw before Gallagher attacked and went to work on the mat. A quick takedown got two before Gallagher hit a series of round kicks to the stomach in the corner. He furthered the destruction on the mat and undid his jacket, but Alexander sent him out and dove onto him on the floor.

Gallagher ate a nasty forearm and tossed Alexander into the barricade. Gallagher went under the apron and jumped Alexander before undoing his tie. He grabbed William III, but Alexander stood on it and cracked him over the back to give Gallagher the win by DQ.

Alexander tossed Gallagher around the timekeeper’s area before tossing him into the announce table, with McGuinness telling Joseph to run for his life. Alexander kept beating Gallagher down before Kendrick limped down to help his friend.

WWE 205 Live results: Neville vs. Akira Tozawa

The Big Takeaway —

Neville and Tozawa stole the show with an excellent main event, Jack Gallagher’s issues with Brian Kendrick continued with a clown being added to the mix, TJP bickered with Rich Swann for a bit, and Tony Nese and Drew Gulak endured another loss.

Show Recap —

Akira Tozawa’s win from last Monday night was recapped before his title loss at SummerSlam was shown. Vic Joseph and Corey Graves then hyped up the title match tonight before Cedric Alexander came out to team with Gran Metalik.

Drew Gulak still believes in a better 205 Live and will team with Tony Nese tonight. Nese showed off his eight-pack, and the new neon green gear he’s got on makes them shine. Nese buried the fans for being fat and eating pizza. Well, I can’t imagine the arena pizza is all that good — so good for him for encouraging better eating habits.

Cedric Alexander & Gran Metalik defeated Tony Nese & Drew Gulak

Nese and Alexander started things off and Nese took a break from a tie-up to pose. Alexander took Gulak down with a giant forearm strike. Metalik came in, but he got laid out by a forearm shot and the heels cut the ring off.

Metalik ducked under a baseball slide from Nese and hit a moonsault to the floor, then Nese talked smack to Alexander and got cradled for two. Metalik hit a crossbody from the ring post to mid-ring.

Alexander and Gulak came in and Gulak ate a springboard lariat for two. The faces hit a double team pop-up dropkick on Gulak before Metalik splashed down for a close near fall. Alexander followed with a Lumbar Check to win it.

Titus O’Neil talked to Tozawa about how he wishes he took a break before this rematch to rest up, but Tozawa remained confident. Tozawa gave him two claps and a Ric Flair.

A SummerSlam recap led to Jack Gallagher vs. Brian Kendrick in a duel. Gallagher ran down his issues with Kendrick and cut an intense promo on being doubted and how maybe there’s a grain of truth to him being a clown, but now he has someone in his life who needs knocking out.

Kendrick mocked Gallagher and said he has a suitable opponent for him — Sprinkles the Clown. Gallagher headbutted and stomped him. He went to powerbomb Sprinkles through a table, but Kendrick jumped him and beat him with an umbrella before sending Gallagher through the table. Kendrick challenged him to a no DQ match next week.

Rich Swann interrupted TJP’s game of WWE 2K17 and demanded his attention. TJP showed off his giant knee brace and said he hurt his knee beating him the week before. He logically pointed out that it’s not his fault that Swann was distracted by music.

Gallagher and Kendrick’s no DQ match was confirmed for next week. Neville walked backstage before his match, leading to Tozawa coming out before Neville entered.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville defeated Akira Tozawa to retain his title

Neville gave Tozawa a clean break to start before grinding him with a necklock. Neville went for a kick and Tozawa caught it. He chopped Neville in the corner and then rained down forearms in another one.

Neville recovered and began to work on the bad arm to gain an edge. He applied a Muta Lock on the elbow and snapped back. Neville sent Tozawa outside and hit a moonsault off the top onto the arm and slammed it into the LED board before flipping him into the barricade.

Neville got sent off the top and rolled to the floor — so Tozawa dove onto him. Tozawa hit a Saito suplex for a near fall.

Tozawa went up for the Drop Zone senton bomb, but Neville crotched him. Neville hit a superplex, but Tozawa cradled him for an unsuccessful pinning attempt. Neville kicked him down for two. Tozawa got a schoolboy and a kick for another two count.

Neville went for a flash Rings of Saturn that was turned into a cradle for two. Tozawa kicked him down for the Drop Zone, but it missed and the Rings of Saturn got the win for Neville. This was an excellent match and a return to form for the show.

Neville cut a promo on conquering everyone, then Enzo Amore debuted in one of his more ridiculous outfits. Amore did his sing-along promo with kids going crazy for him and got a huge “How you doing?” chant, which was amazing given how long everyone had actually been in the building.

WWE 205 Live results: Neville addresses Akira Tozawa

The Big Takeaway —

Brian Kendrick mocked Jack Gallagher and beat him half to death with an umbrella. Drew Gulak’s no fly zone cost him another win against Mustafa Ali, and the never-ending Cedric Alexander vs. Noam Dar storyline continued.

Neville and Tozawa also had an intense staredown and got physical for the first time ever to close the show.

Show Recap —

Akira Tozawa’s rise with the Titus Brand started things off thanks to an impressive highlight reel. A Neville highlight package then showcased his intimidating presence and deadly moves.

Vic Joseph and Corey Graves (in an outstanding used car salesman suit) welcomed us to the show. Neville will address the fans and Cedric Alexander will face Ariya Daivari.

Jack Gallagher chatted with Dasha Fuentes. Gallagher said that he let his guard down last week against Tony Nese, but he will not do that tonight against Brian Kendrick. Kendrick showed up dressed like Gallagher and called him a joke.

Jack Gallagher defeated Brian Kendrick by DQ

Kendrick wrestled in a suit and hit Gallagher with a cheap shot before locking on a headlock. A long Kendrick promo and a headlock may not be the hottest way to start the show.

Gallagher went into the corner, but Kendrick simply refused to move and ended that. Gallagher landed a big uppercut, but ate the buckle before Kendrick landed a big corner forearm.

Vic Joseph said that Kendrick has a plan, and Graves said yes, he calls himself that and not the man with occasional forethought. Kendrick beat Gallagher up with his umbrella for the disqualification. He then grabbed Gallagher’s umbrella to beat him with that one too. The crowd came alive thanks to all this, so I guess it worked.

Drew Gulak vs. Mustafa Ali was hyped up, leading to Gulak being interviewed by Fuentes. Fuentes threw to a video package showing Gulak losing via cradle and Gulak said that the victory proved his point — Ali couldn’t beat him with something flashy.

Gulak yammered on the bullhorn before Ali asked why Gulak hates exciting moves. Ali said that high flying is something Gulak just can’t do — and he gave him a big grin and a thumbs up.

A drive-in movie-style ad hyped up Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns for Great Balls of Fire.

Mustafa Ali defeated Drew Gulak

Gulak talked on the bullhorn to no reaction from the crowd. Ali took him down with a snap arm drag, so Gulak just punched him. Ali went for a dive, but he ate a kick to the gut. Gulak twisted his head on the mat before cranking on a chinlock.

Gulak hit a nasty snap suplex into the buckle for a near fall before raking Ali’s face against the top rope. Ali landed a slick spinning DDT to the sound of silence. He then landed a series of forearms before connecting with a high kick out of the corner.

A blockbuster got two for Ali, but Gulak sent him down and went for a Superfly dive. It missed and Ali cradled him to win.

Alexander vs. Daivari was hyped up before Noam Dar apologized to Daivari for throwing his bag out. Dar told him it’s really all Alexander’s fault. Daivari said that the shirt was only $15,000 and he wouldn’t even bend over to pick that up. Dar told him that Alicia Fox has his funds tied up anyway, then took a call from her.

Daivari told him that he doesn’t owe him money — he just owes him. He then destroyed Dar’s phone. Thank God — maybe that’s it for the FaceTime gimmick.

Ariya Daivari defeated Cedric Alexander

Alexander and Daivari exchanged armlocks before Alexander hit a big dropkick. The big springboard lariat got two for Alexander. Alexander cleaned Daivari’s clock with a giant right elbow strike, but he got tossed into the buckle — giving Daivari an edge.

Daivari locked on a chinlock before turning it into a body vice variant that is a bit too similar to Samoa Joe’s finisher. Alexander got his foot on the rope and Dar came out to distract Alexander, with Daivari getting a cradle for two. Daivari hit a modified Rainmaker and won it.

Dar jumped Alexander with some dreadful punches from a side mount before asking for a mic. He told Fox that he would love to be on FaceTime, but the Cedric Alexander chapter is over and now it’s time to move on so they can focus on their love. He quoted the movie “Rocky” by saying they did it.

Neville walked backstage to prepare to talk to the crowd. His mere presence woke the crowd up and he told them that in two weeks, he will defend his title against another so-called challenger.

Him mentioning Tozawa’s name resulted in the crowd doing the “Ha!” bit and he called it cute before saying that Titus Worldwide is a smokescreen and Tozawa is a mere lamb being led to slaughter. As champion, he gives warnings and the second that Tozawa comes in the ring, he will be smacked with reality and he isn’t close to the Neville level.

Tozawa came down and Neville asked him if he understands what he’s saying before getting nonstop “Ha’s” in response. Tozawa kicked him down, which resulted in the fans doing the battle cry and then Tozawa doing it while Neville left with his tail tucked between his legs. They had an intense staredown to close the show.

WWE 205 Live results: Neville takes on Rich Swann

The Big Takeaway —

Neville continued his never-ending dominance, while a new alliance between Austin Aries and Jack Gallagher teased a darker edge for both men. The Titus O’Neil and Akira Tozawa story took a slight turn this week, and the Noam Dar vs. Cedric Alexander feud refuses to end.

Show Recap —

Akira Tozawa and Rich Swann chatted backstage and Swann bragged about being in the main event before Titus O’Neil said that he is impressed by Swann — but he isn’t The Weeknd, and he can’t get away with that hair.

O’Neil awkwardly put Tozawa over and talked about finalizing their deal tonight. Tozawa said no, and O’Neil offered five percent more on “Tozawa Powah” merch. Tozawa turned this down, so O’Neil gave him until Raw and did his “cha-cha-cha-cha-ching” thing.

Corey Graves and Vic Joseph welcomed us to the show and ran down the card. Mustafa Ali faces Drew Gulak and Neville takes on Swann. But first, Jack Gallagher came out for a match against Tony Nese after a recap of the Nese-Austin Aries confrontation from last week.

Tony Nese defeated Jack Gallagher

Nese tried to overpower Gallagher, who used tomfoolery like the corner handstand to get a bit of an advantage. Gallagher got tied into a tree of woe and Nese did a sit-up while bicycle kicking him.

Gallagher recovered and hit a forearm and a series of dropkicks before a headbutt got two. Nese charged after him, but Gallagher sidestepped and Nese hit the post. Nese played possum and used a schoolboy into the buckle before hitting a charging knee for the win.

Noam Dar talked with Alicia Fox on Facetime before Cedric Alexander came in and said that this is all over for the thousandth time. Dar said that Alexander needs to quit 205 Live or it will never be over. Dar told Alexander to fetch because he threw his bag in the river, but Alexander grabbed his bag and then Ariya Daivari ran in because his bag is missing and it cost $15,000. Daivari’s shirt is outstanding.

They hyped up Drew Gulak and his videos before doing a long recap of the Gulak-Mustafa Ali feud. Ali came out to face Gulak, who got no reaction with his megaphone.

Mustafa Ali defeated Drew Gulak

Ali hit a baseball slide and a corkscrew dive before the bell. He went up top, but Gulak tossed him to the floor. Ali’s elbow smacked the apron hard and he ate a forearm. Gulak targeted the arm with a hammerlock and slammed it into the buckle, but Ali landed a dropkick and a corner high kick. Ali got a cradle to pick up the win.

Backstage, Gallagher met with Aries, who said that being a gentleman hasn’t worked well for him. Cutting corners has worked for Neville and TJP, but Gallagher said he’s not comfortable cutting corners. Aries said that they can be allies and Gallagher agreed.

TJP and Swann had an awkward conversation about being friends and Graves hyped up the WWE 2K18 cover reveal with the Seth Rollins trailer.

Tozawa got his own intro because O’Neil bought him a ticket and got him his own little purple velvet rope area. Neville came out first, followed by Swann.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville defeated Rich Swann in a non-title match

Swann came in and Neville jumped him to make use of his better positioning. Neville ate a tilt-a-whirl rana and Swann landed a giant dive to the floor. Swann tossed him in and went for a rolling thunder splash, but he ended up taking a pair of knees to the gut.

Neville continued his dominance on the floor by ramming Swann into the barricade and then the announce table. Neville angrily picked him up, but Swann connected with a superkick.

Swann landed a series of kicks before a high kick got two. He went for the Phoenix splash, but Neville locked on the Rings of Saturn for the win. Neville stared at Tozawa to close the show.

WWE 205 Live results: Akira Tozawa vs. TJP

The Big Takeaway —

Titus O’Neil played babyface by cheering on Akira Tozawa and believing in him, while Cedric Alexander’s never-ending issues with Noam Dar continued.

Austin Aries said that he’s out of action due to neck and leg problems that weren’t fully explained, and Jack Gallagher saved him from an attack by Tony Nese.

Show Recap —

Akira Tozawa taped up and Titus O’Neil said it’s time for cha-cha-cha-ching! O’Neil said he’s pulled some strings and got Tozawa in the main event tonight against TJP. O’Neil cut Tozawa off and said it will be raining yen.

Corey Graves introduced Vic Joseph as his new commentary partner and we were told that Austin Aries will talk to the fans tonight. Cedric Alexander came out with his rather slick rash guard and we got a recap of last night’s awful Facetime stuff with Alicia Fox.

Ariya Daivari entered and was basically playing his brother’s Lucha Underground character.

Cedric Alexander defeated Ariya Daivari

Alexander and Daivari started off with a striking stalemate. Alexander landed a big apron punch, but he got tripped up and ate the buckle. Daivari locked on a chinlock before turning it into a flying neckbreaker for two.

Alexander landed some nasty chops and uppercuts before eating a big knee that got two. Alexander hit the leg-catching spinning back elbow and a springboard Hart Attack for a near fall — with the ref’s hand briefly slapping down for three.

Noam Dar came down with Alicia Fox on the tron via Facetime. Alexander is one of WWE’s smarter babyfaces and chose to beat up Dar. He then finished Daivari with a Lumbar Check. Fox called him a loser and Alexander teased destroying the phone, but he instead just hung up the call. Thank goodness.

Austin Aries made his way to the ring and we got a recap of his losses to Neville. Aries said he’s glad to be back in New Orleans, but he works hard to be a champion and is disappointed. He said that when it counted most, he didn’t get the job done, but that’s okay, everyone’s been there. You just get up and keep going.

He mentioned that there are rumors that he’s stepping away. He said that due to his knee and neck, he isn’t medically cleared. Tony Nese came out in a ridiculous looking neon green pair of trunks and tattered vest. They went back and forth before Jack Gallagher came out to help Aries. He told some jokes before beating up Nese with his umbrella.

Rich Swann told TJP that he looked good against Neville, but he took too many shortcuts. He wants TJ Perkins to be back and take care of business since TJP doesn’t.

A Mustafa Ali video package showed him looking outstanding before a Drew Gulak video aired that buried dives. Ali will face Gulak next week and Nese will face Gallagher as well.

TJP was out first for the main event, followed by Tozawa.

Akira Tozawa defeated TJP

TJP went for a sunset flip, but he ate a buzzsaw kick for two. O’Neil was backstage actually watching a TV in a way that a human being could view it. TJP choked Tozawa and raked his face. He got two off of a back springboard forearm.

TJP grounded him with a modified standing Indian deathlock before working on the arm. Tozawa recovered enough to send TJP to the floor and hit a suicide dive headbutt variant. TJP landed the double chickenwing gutbuster for two before locking on the kneebar.

Tozawa got a cradle, then ate a jumping spin kick before spiking TJP with a Saito suplex. He landed the senton off the top to win the match. O’Neil sung that it’s raining yen before Neville gave him the evil eye and said he’s spouting drivel and setting Tozawa up to fail.

Neville said that Tozawa isn’t on the Neville level, and O’Neil said that the Titus Brand is about the future and Tozawa is the future of 205 Live.

This was a damn good babyface manager promo by O’Neil.

WWE 205 Live results: Neville puts his title on the line against TJP

The Big Takeaway —

Neville and TJP shined brightly in an outstanding main event. Cedric Alexander looked strong, while Rich Swann was showcased in an excellent video package.

Show Recap —

The finish of the Cruiserweight title match at Extreme Rules was shown, followed by Neville’s beating of TJP on Raw.

Noam Dar came out while Corey Graves and Tom Phillips talked about Alicia Fox not being with him. The fans yelled “where’s Alicia?” and Dar talked about her for a bit before yammering about Cedric Alexander and saying that Fox is recovering at home.

Whoever decided to start the show off with a long Noam Dar promo should be fired. Alexander came out to thankfully save things and prevent Dar from talking more.

Cedric Alexander defeated Noam Dar

Alexander locked on an armbar before Dar desperately got to the rope and yelled at the ref to break it up. Dar went outside and ate a nasty forearm and a chop. Dar faceplanted him for two. Dar locked on a nasty armbar before punting the elbow — he’s got a sadistic streak to him that works well.

Dar went for a kick, but Alexander caught his leg and used his good arm for a spinning back elbow strike. Alexander hit the springboard lariat for two. Dar connected with a soccer kick to the knee to send Alexander on his face before cradling him for two.

A nasty punt to the ribs got two for Dar, and then a big kick to Alexander sent him back — but Alexander caught a rushing Dar into a crazy tossing Lumbar Check to win it. Dar’s corkscrew selling on this was incredible.

An in-depth video package on TJP showed him winning the Cruiserweight Classic and becoming the inaugural champion of this version of the title. TJP chatted with Dasha Fuentes about leading the generation and being great — so he’s still cocky despite somewhat being a babyface.

Louie Valle was in the ring to face Mustafa Ali. Valle has a fireplug appearance — he’s got a giant head, but he’s stout and built like a fireplug along with tribal tattoos and the generic look of a mid-2000s created wrestler in a video game.

Mustafa Ali defeated Louie Valle

Ali dropkicked him before flipping. He landed a series of hard forearms before landing a high kick on the apron. He hit his neckbreaker and went for the inverted 450, but Drew Gulak tried to distract him with his No Fly Zone stuff and Valle got a near fall off a distraction cradle before Ali won with a reversal.

Gulak said he’s proud of him for winning with a grounded move. He cut a promo on the megaphone before Ali flipped on him.

A Rich Swann video showcased his love of dancing and how his life has been hard, but this WWE run has made it all worth it.

Titus O’Neil chatted to Akira Tozawa about making the Titus Brand international. O’Neil’s pink sweater vest under a tie and a suit jacket is something else and he is perfect as a manager — not so much for a cruiserweight since he’s gigantic, though.

TJP came out to face Neville.

WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville defeated TJP to retain his title

Graves compared Neville to Jose Aldo and Max Holloway at the start. Neville slapped TJP around a bit before his opponent gave him a taste of his own medicine.

They exchanged matwork before a half crab led to Neville scrambling to the ropes to escape. TJP went from one leg and back hold to another with a Tarantula in the corner to wear down Neville. Neville took TJP outside and slammed his jaw on the announce table before a hard mid-ring powerslam.

Neville got him in his sights before landing a missile dropkick and then landing an elbow to the jaw. TJP backdropped him to the floor before landing a corkscrew dive onto Neville. TJP landed the double chickenwing Codebreaker for two.

TJP went for the Detonation Kick, but Neville locked his feet in the ropes before faceplanting TJP. Neville landed a series of kicks before a sliding dropkick got two. Neville raked his boot on him before asking why TJ is making him do this. TJP started attacking the knee with dropkicks, but Neville recovered and went for a second rope phoenix splash.

It missed and TJ locked on the TJP Clutch! Graves talked about how this move gave TJP the title before, but Neville reversed it into the Rings of Saturn, which TJP turned into a cradle before Neville got a back-landing variant of the Rings of Saturn to win by submission.

This was an outstanding finishing sequence and this easily topped the PPV match.

WWE 205 Live results: The final build to Extreme Rules

The Big Takeaway —

Neville and Austin Aries had one final confrontation before Extreme Rules, with Neville getting the upper hand thanks to TJP. Drew Gulak once again scored a win over Mustafa Ali, continuing to prove that being on the ground works best.

Noam Dar and Alicia Fox gained momentum heading into their mixed tag match on Sunday, with Dar picking up a win over Rich Swann thanks to Fox’s help.

Show Recap —

Noam Dar and Alicia Fox came out to start the show. Fox said that Dar completes her and nothing could break them up. Rich Swann and Sasha Banks are nothing but yokes and jokes, she says (at least, I think that was the quote). They plugged their Extreme Rules mixed tag match, which will be on the pre-show.

As Fox was continuing to rant on about Banks, Swann came out, with Banks following. Banks said she and Swann share a lot of things in common, unlike Dar and Fox — they like to dance, and know about fashion. She and Fox exchanged barbs over their weaves before the match started.

Noam Dar defeated Rich Swann

Dar worked on Swann’s arm. Swann was mounting a comeback when Fox grabbed him by the leg. Banks and Fox had a brawl, with Banks snatching part of Fox’s weave. During this ruckus, Swann missed a charge in the corner which allowed Dar to lay him out with a knee strike for the win.

Dasha Fuentes interviewed Cedric Alexander about what just happened. He said Fox and Dar will get what’s coming to them at Extreme Rules. Rehabbing for three months doesn’t seem like a long time, but now he has to go out there and make up for lost time.

Cedric Alexander defeated Corey Hollis

Hollis honed in on Alexander’s injured knee, but Alexander made a quick comeback and pinned him with the Lumbar Check.

They showed a recap of what went down last week between Akira Tozawa and Brian Kendrick, where Tozawa defeated him in a street fight.

Drew Gulak defeated Mustafa Ali

Gulak came out to do his spiel about 205 Live becoming a No Fly Zone when Ali shut him up with a dive to the floor. Gulak came back with rest holds for heat. Ali made a comeback but when executing a crossbody attempt Gulak reversed the cover and got the win.

Gulak said that the victory wasn’t for him. It was for those who believe in his message for what 205 Live should be. Ali lost, and he needs to learn high flying doesn’t pay, staying on the ground is the way.

Austin Aries made his way to the ring. Ever since last night, people have been messaging him on social media. Not because of his new book, but because of the tap heard around the world. They showed footage of what went down on Raw, then they showed it again just in case anyone in the audience didn’t see. He said this may be the first time that Neville tapped, but only because the other two times Neville found a way to escape.

Neville came out and said last night he got lucky. This is how you carry yourself? You have no decorum. This Sunday, the King of the Cruiserweights will eradicate you once and for all. He claimed that 205 Live is his kingdom.

TJP jumped Aries from behind as Neville joined in on the fray. With TJP holding Aries, Neville kicked his knee in a bowing position, then took him out and locked in the Rings of Saturn. He stood over Aries as the show closed.

Final Thoughts —

This was an okay show that built well to Extreme Rules. The positive about 205 Live is that there are a number of storylines that are well highlighted and work well on paper. Problem is, the execution is super dry. Add in the uninterested crowd and standard WWE-style of work, and you have a solid but uninspiring program.

WWE 205 Live results: Austin Aries battles TJP

The Big Takeaway —

Austin Aries defeated TJP, but a leg injury made him prime game for Neville, who assaulted him until Jack Gallagher made the save.

Gran Metalik actually had a match on 205 Live, but he lost to Noam Dar. Speaking of, Dar tried to play Rich Swann’s own game by having a box with white powder delivered to him, but Swann instead managed to get Ariya Daivari to open it instead.

Brian Kendrick, after teaching Akira Tozawa his final lesson last week, will teach him again next week in a street fight.

Show Recap —

Dasha Fuentes started the show off by interviewing Austin Aries. She asked him about TJP tonight. Aries called him a lapdog for Neville, and said that title shot TJP thinks he’s going to get? Not going to happen. He brought up his injured knee, but injured knee or not, he claimed TJP will never be on the A Double level.

Noam Dar defeated Gran Metalik

Aside from a botched hurricanrana, Metalik looked good early on offense. Alicia Fox distracted Metalik, which allowed Dar to blindside him for heat. Metalik came back with a big springboard elbow. Metalik went to walk around the middle rope when Dar cut him off with a kick to the leg, then followed with a knee strike for the win. This was a good, competitive match.

It was announced that next week Brian Kendrick would face Akira Tozawa in a street fight. Fuentes interviewed Kendrick, who went over the rules of a street fight, and said a crafty mind like his could spell trouble for Tozawa. He wasn’t planning on Tozawa being so stubborn. This final lesson (as opposed to last week’s final lesson) might be the end of Tozawa’s 205 Live dreams.

A Cedric Alexander video package aired. He returns next week.

Mustafa Ali was coming out for a match against Tony Nese when Drew Gulak attacked him from behind, throwing him into the barricade. He threw Ali into the ring post hard, making a nasty sound.

Gulak threw Ali into the ring and told Nese to do the running knee in the corner — he obliged. Both posed in the ring, Gulak lifting up his No Fly Zone sign as Ali was left a complete mess.

Rich Swann was interviewed by Fuentes. She said Dar has claimed that Swann will get what he deserves for trying to break he and Alicia Fox up. Swann offered a rebuttal, but was suddenly interrupted by a guy with a package for a Richard T. Swann. Swann said that’s not him, you’re looking for the guy over there.

That guy over there happened to be Ariya Daivari, who was looking at himself in a mirror. Daivari accepted the gift, thinking it contained some fancy Persian glasses, but soon realized they weren’t, so he left them be as he exited.

Jack Gallagher came in and looked at the gift, but Daivari came back and told him to get lost. He opened the package, and soon enough white powder flew right into his face. He wasn’t too happy about that one.

Austin Aries defeated TJP

TJP spent the early part of the match working on Aries’ busted leg. TJP went to dab while working on a submission, allowing Aries to mount a comeback. He went for a suicide dive and landed it, but tweaked his leg in the process.

Aries went for something off the top rope, but TJP blocked it, clipped his leg, and took him down with the kneebar. TJP grabbed the ropes for leverage, which the referee saw and forced him to let go. TJP had him on his shoulders for the Detonation Kick, but Aries countered with a small package into the Last Chancery, making TJP quickly submit in a solid bout.

Neville blindsided Aries after the match, slamming his bad knee into the post and applying a heel hook. Gallagher ran in with his umbrella and struck Neville with it, sending Neville to the outside to close out the show.

Final Thoughts —

This was a good show. Both matches were pretty solid, and the angles in between were fine, though I thought we were done with the Kendrick/Tozawa stuff. But I guess that’ll be next week…or whenever WWE decides to end it.

Metalik should probably be on 205 more. He and Ali are the kind of guys they need to build around if they want to promote an exciting product. Building up stories is nice, but it can only go so far if you have guys that size that are merely okay.

WWE 205 Live results: Noam Dar and Alicia Fox reunite

The Big Takeaway —

NoamDar defeated Rich Swann, then leaped into Alicia Fox’s arms, officially reuniting with one another. Akira Tozawa once again had the upper hand in the never-ending Lesson Battle of the Ages. Drew Gulak proved that his way of wrestling was the best by defeating Mustafa Ali after a high-flying maneuver failed.

Show Recap —

We opened immediately to the aftermath from the show closing angle on SmackDown where Chris Jericho was being helped to the back after crashing into a post with a chair wrapped around his throat thanks to Kevin Owens.

Footage from Payback was then shown where Neville retained the Cruiserweight title after grabbing a referee just as Austin Aries seemed within reach of victory. TJ Perkins came out and helped Neville in a beatdown after that match.

Perkins opened the show. He was again referred to as just TJP.

TJP defeated Lince Dorado

This was pretty good. Dorado hasn’t been on 205 Live in forever so at least this felt like a fresh bout. They had a nice back and forth match. Dorado at one point struck TJP with a reverse double foot stomp that looked pretty cool. TJP grabbed Dorado’s mask, threw him down, then submitted him with the kneebar.

Cory Graves threw it to an interview he conducted earlier in the day with Brian Kendrick. He asked why things are so heated between Kendrick and Akira Tozawa. Kendrick said he felt insulted. He wanted Tozawa to be his protege but got rejected by him. He wanted to teach him anyway but he’s playing around instead, doing his chant. At that moment Tozawa jumped Kendrick and sat down. He said this is lesson number five — always leave an interview with an impact.

Drew Gulak came out for the next match with a microphone, saying that he was declaring Fresno a “No Fly Zone.”

Drew Gulak defeated Mustafa Ali

Gulak avoided Ali whenever he tried to go to the top rope for a move. They had a solid match overall, though nothing worth noting. Ali went for a frog splash, but Gulak got the knees up and rolled him over for the win.

Gulak was interviewed after the match, saying high flying doesn’t work. He said that fans lead these superstars to their demise by cheering for them. Ali crashed and burned tonight and it was because of them. He claimed to be the future of 205 Live because what he does works.

Noam Dar defeated Rich Swann

After a few minutes of back and forth action, Dar got the heat after laying out Swann with a clothesline while he was crotched on the middle rope. Dar focused on one of Swann’s arms as Swann fired back with a great tope con hilo to the floor. Swann looked great when on offense, laying out Dar with a leg drop off the barricade.

Swann then hit the Phoenix Splash. He held his arm before covering, leading to a kick out.

Dar caught Swann in mid-air and clenched in with an armbar until Swann made it to the ropes. He grabbed Swann’s fingers and went to do a stomp before Swann rolled out of the way. Swann went for another Phoenix Splash, but Dar clipped him before he could get to the top rope. Swann got up until being floored by a running enzuigiri, allowing Dar to score the win.

Alicia Fox came out after the match. She was all smiles as she seemed to be interested in rekindling her and Dar’s relationship. Dar was hesitant, but he eventually accepted and they reunited, Dar leaping into Fox’s arms as the show went off the air.

Final Thoughts —

This was a weird show in that there was exactly zero follow up to the fallout from Payback. But this was fine in advancing the other programs that have been going on for what seems like forever on the show. Nothing was bad, but nothing felt fresh, either.

WWE 205 Live results: Neville vs. Jack Gallagher

The Big Takeaway —

Neville upped the momentum for Payback by beating Jack Gallagher in the main event, but Austin Aries made sure he was heard as well. Drew Gulak is increasingly becoming a pain in the side of Mustafa Ali, this time interfering in his matches directly. Brian Kendrick learned his 23,523rd lesson from Akira Tozawa.

Show Recap —

Akira Tozawa & Rich Swann defeated Brian Kendrick & Noam Dar

This was a solid, very well worked match but there wasn’t much of note. The crowd at least sort of seemed awake for it. The heels got the heat on Swann for a bit until Tozawa got the hot tag, laid out Kendrick, then pinned Dar with the shining wizard.

Tozawa said Kendrick chose a tag team partner tonight — but he choose poorly. Lesson four: always chose wisely.

Dasha Fuentes interviewed Neville, asking how he prepared for tonight’s match. He said he’s proven time and again Jack Gallagher doesn’t belong in the ring and tonight will be no different. He said aside from maybe TJ Perkins, no one is on the Neville Level. He wondered when people will realize the inevitable and place a knee on the floor for the King of the Cruiserweights.

Mustafa Ali and Tony Nese came out for their match when Drew Gulak arrived with the same picket sign from last week, “No Fly Zone.” He joined Tom Phillips and Corey Graves on commentary.

Tony Nese defeated Mustafa Ali by DQ

Another solid back and forth match here. Ali looked really good, even busting out a tope con hilo over the turnbuckle to the outside, sending Nese reeling. Gulak complained whenever Ali did a high spot and generally just talked about his dislike for Ali’s high-flying style.

Ali landed a tornado DDT and went for his finish when Gulak dragged him out of the ring for the DQ in Nese’s favor. Ali did not like that, and replied with another tope con hilo — this time wiping out Gulak.

Neville defeated Jack Gallagher

This was another match that was in the solid territory, though it was clearly better than the other two matches on tonight’s card. Gallagher had the advantage early. Neville, on the outside, angrily responded by throwing Gallagher’s umbrella all the way to the stage entrance.

Neville gained control for the early part of the match until Gallagher blasted him with a headbutt. You’d think after what went down with Katsuyori Shibata that people would cut it out, but nope. Neville caught Gallagher with a palm strike, did a running stomp on the corner, then submitted him with the Rings of Saturn.

Neville jumped Gallagher after the match and dragged him to the rampway. He was looking for the Rings of Saturn until Aries came in and hit him with the discus fivearm. He locked in the Last Chancery, then left him laying as he stood tall in the ring to close out the show.

Final Thoughts —

A just there show with a just there build to Payback. Hopefully next week there will be a new program or two to sink my teeth into because none of them right now are really doing it for me in terms of interest or intrigue.

WWE 205 Live results: Austin Aries and TJ Perkins battle it out

The Big Takeaway —

After beating TJ Perkins in the main event, Austin Aries was jumped by both him and Neville after the match, making it clear that he’s at a disadvantage at Payback with TJP in Neville’s corner.

Alicia Fox broke up with Noam Dar to hook up with Rich Swann, but Swann revealed his true intentions, leaving her in the dust. Tozawa and Kendrick continued their very long lesson session.

Show Recap —

Akira Tozawa came out for his match. As he did, they showed footage of what went down last week in the Tozawa/Brian Kendrick feud.

Akira Tozawa defeated Tony Nese

This was mostly just a match to further the angle — it wasn’t bad, but nothing you’d remember. Nese controlled a lot of the match. Halfway through, Kendrick came down to meddle. He started to hop on the apron, which got Nese’s attention and allowed Tozawa to roll him up for the win.

Nese was none too happy about this, and laid Kendrick out after sharing some words with him. Tozawa grabbed a mic on the outside and said this is lesson number three: you need to have eyes in the back of your head.

Rich Swann came out to talk about Alicia Fox, but was quickly cut off by Noam Dar, who wasn’t happy. He yelled at Swann about interfering in Dar and Fox’s relationship and called him a rat. Fox then came out. Swann asked who will it be, Foxxy? Dar, stunned, wanted to know what this was all about.

Fox first addressed Dar, dressing him down by saying his cologne stinks, he’s immature, and he can’t cook. She revealed that she never really cared about him, and was just using him as he seemed to have potential. She was also annoyed by the way he says “Alicia Foooooooooooooox.” She officially dumped him. The crowd halfheartedly at best sang the goodbye song as he left.

Fox then focused her attention on Swann, thanking him for all the gifts. Swann said they all came from the heart. She said she’s going to give him what he deserves, leaning in for a kiss, but he stopped her.

Swann asked if she remembered Cedric Alexander. He said she left Alexander high and dry; he’s one of his closest friends and for that you get what you deserve. He shunned her and made his exit.

Alicia said fine, being single is fine anyway. She went after the crowd over the “what” chants and started talking about Louisville being her city as she was eventually cut off.

Ariya Daivari came out wearing fancier new clothing. They’ve tweaked his gimmick a bit as he’s now rich and — as it was shown during his entrance — came into the arena today in a fancy new car (maybe a Jaguar?), and blew off the valet when he motioned for a tip.

Ariya Daivari defeated Mustafa Ali

Ali had the advantage early. He went for a tornado DDT but Daivari countered with a spinebuster. They had a pretty good back and forth match while it lasted. Ali was going for the imploding 450 splash when Drew Gulak came out with a megaphone and a sign saying “No Fly Zone.” This distracted Ali, allowing Daivari to ground him and lay him out with a hammerlock/lariat combo for the win.

Dasha Fuentes interviewed Gulak backstage. He said tonight we’ve seen the first steps of a bright future for 205 Live. Ali’s short-sighted high flying brand of competition — that has no future. He will stop at nothing to create a better 205 Live.

Austin Aries defeated TJ Perkins

I thought this was a solid main event. It probably would have been a better match with a hot crowd, but that can be said for virtually every episode of 205 Live.

Aries tweaked his knee when going for a 450 splash, giving Perkins the opportunity to work over that body part. Aries fought back and eventually did land the 450, but Perkins got his foot on the rope. Aries followed with the Last Chancery, but Perkins managed to make it to the ropes and bailed to the outside.

Aries went to throw him back in, but TJP cut him off and went for the detonation kick. Aries floated behind him and boxed his ears, then followed with the discus fivearm for the win.

Neville’s music hit as he came to the ring, looking for a fight. He tried to take Aries out but Aries countered with the Last Chancery. TJP came in and broke it up, then both of them stomped on the prone Aries. TJP laid him out with the detonation kick and Neville sealed the deal with the Rings of Saturn.

TJP dabbed on the downed Aries as he and Neville made their exit, closing the show.

Final Thoughts —

Beyond the main event segment, which was pretty good, the rest of the show was subpar. This was a story-heavy episode of 205 Live, which means this episode in particular pretty much exposed that none of the stories are all that great right now. No one really reacted to anything going on, making everything feel flat and poorly executed.

People can have all the talent in the world, but when you put them in scenarios that make it 10 times tougher to get over, most of the time even the most talented people can’t keep their head above water.

Between the predictable, flat ending of the Dar storyline they’ve been pushing for months, the Kendrick/Tozawa feud that feels like it’s never going to end, and the Gulak/Ali feud that already feels pretty bad, this episode was a perfect representation of that.

WWE 205 Live results: TJ Perkins takes on Jack Gallagher

The Big Takeaway —

TJ Perkins picked up a victory over Jack Gallagher, all while reaffirming his new friendship with Neville.

The jig seems to be up between Noam Dar, Alicia Fox, Rich Swann, and the mysterious gifts — or is it? Akira Tozawa has turned the tables on Brian Kendrick, now using his own mind games against him.

Show Recap —

Mustafa Ali defeated Brian Kendrick

This was just a typical back and forth match without a lot of heat. It eventually built into a pretty good bout but the crowd just wasn’t having it. The commentators brought up Tozawa’s win from last week over Kendrick, as well as Ali’s recent interactions with Drew Gulak, who was also shown looking at the monitor as the match progressed.

Kendrick crotched Ali and transitioned to the bully choke but the bell rang. It turned out that Tozawa was the one who rang the bell before the submission, so the match continued. Ali immediately took out Kendrick with a kick on the apron and followed with his imploding 450 splash for the win.

Tozawa said after the match this is lesson number two: appearances can be deceiving.

They showed footage from last night where TJ Perkins was confronted by Neville, telling him that he’s the only one who respects Perkins. TJP bought into this, and after rolling up a distracted Aries in their match, laid him out, officially siding with Neville.

Perkins was then interviewed. He said this isn’t about what he did to Austin Aries, it’s about what Aries did to him — he said that he is the victim. Gallagher came in and said he hopes he’ll have a more gentlemanly approach tonight. TJP didn’t want to hear it, he’s not the only one that’s benefited from his bad luck.

Rich Swann defeated Johnny Ocean

This was mostly just a highlight reel for Swann, who looked good. He got the win with the phoenix splash in a short match.

Swann said after the match that people might have some questions about why he gave presents to Alicia Fox. We, of course, didn’t get those answers because Noam Dar came out and called him a liar. He’s been the one sending the gifts. They started arguing when Alicia Fox came out, and called Swann a liar, though she knows he’s been looking at her.

Another delivery guy came in and delivered the latest gift to Fox. Dar took credit for the present and told Swann to leave. He obliged as Dar gave Fox the gift. She asked what it was, and Dar said that it’s a surprise. When she opened it, a bunch of white powder flew into her face. Flour? Baking soda? Powdered sugar? Something else? No one ever said as Swann was shown, pleased.

An Austin Aries interview was next. It seems like TJP wants to blame him for his lack of success. Aries said Neville doesn’t want a friend, he wants a puppet. He claimed Neville wants TJP to be a buffer in their match at Payback. He’s done this dance before, and he’ll do it again until he’s Cruiserweight Champion. He then dabbed with his banana and left.

TJ Perkins defeated Jack Gallagher

TJP hit a DDT on one of Gallagher’s legs and worked on it for a lot of the early part of the match. Gallagher came back with a giant superplex off the top rope. TJP went for a comeback but Gallagher caught him with the ring apron and delivered a big time headbutt.

Gallagher tried to mount a comeback, but his leg was shot. TJP nailed the detonation kick, pinning Gallagher. This was a good match, but again the crowd was just there.

Neville came out and raised Perkins’ hand as the show ended.

Final Thoughts —

This was an okay show, but the same problems that have plagued 205 Live for months are still here. There was good action, but the crowd didn’t care as they had already seen SmackDown. None of the midcard stuff stands out when people work the same as the heavyweights, which defeats the purpose of a cruiserweight division.

And to top it off, while both brands over the last two weeks have featured a ton of changes and new programs, 205 Live is going ahead with the same old feuds that we’ve seen for a while now. So while these shows aren’t bad by any means, compared to other shows going on in the last few weeks, 205 Live feels stagnant.
