The Creed Brothers win Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic at NXT Vengeance Day

Brutus and Julius Creed of Diamond Mine are this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament winners.

The Creed Brothers defeated MSK in tonight’s Dusty Cup Classic finals that took place at NXT Vengeance Day. The finish had Nash Carter going for a dive on the outside, but was caught by Julius Creed who gave him a spinebuster on the floor. Brutus then connected with a sliding lariat to Carter, covering him to win the tournament.

MSK, who made it to the finals for the second year in row, had defeated Jacket Time and the team of Edris Enofe and Malik Blade to advance to the finals. The Creed Brothers had defeated Brooks Jensen and Josh Briggs and the Grizzled Young Veterans prior to tonight.

As a result of The Creed Brothers’ win, they automatically earn a future NXT Tag Team Championship match. The following segment had comments from current champions Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner. Aichner congratulated the Creed Brothers on their win as they won an opportunity, but only an opportunity.

Semifinals set for WWE NXT men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

The semifinals for the 2022 men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic are set following this week’s WWE NXT.

Both MSK and Grizzled Young Veterans advanced past the quarterfinals with wins this week. MSK’s Wes Lee and Nash Carter defeated Jacket Time’s Kushida and Ikemen Jiro to move on, while GYV’s James Drake and Zack Gibson defeated Chase University’s Andre Chase and Bodhi Hayward to advance.

MSK will now face Malik Blade and Edris Enofe in the semifinals, while Grizzled Young Veterans will take on The Creed Brothers.

MSK captured the 2021 men’s Dusty Cup, defeating Grizzled Young Veterans in the finals. Grizzled Young Veterans have made the finals two years in a row, as they dropped the 2020 tournament finals to Riddle and Pete Dunne.

Should they win it all, MSK would become the first team to win the Dusty Cup twice. Grizzled Young Veterans are former NXT UK Tag Team Champions.

The women’s Dusty Classic will begin in February.

Dusty Classic tournaments returning to WWE NXT for 2022

The men’s and women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournaments are both making their return for 2022.

During New Year’s Evil on Tuesday night, it was announced that the 2022 men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will kick off on NXT in two weeks. It was also revealed that the 2022 women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will begin in February.

The inaugural Dusty Classic took place in 2015 as a way to honor the late Dusty Rhodes and his contributions to pro wrestling and NXT. Finn Balor & Samoa Joe, The Authors of Pain, Undisputed Era’s Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly, Aleister Black & Ricochet, Matt Riddle & Pete Dunne, and MSK have won the men’s tournament since it was introduced.

The first-ever women’s Dusty Classic was held last year. It was won by Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai, who were awarded the newly created NXT Women’s Tag Team titles after the tournament.

The winners of the men’s and women’s Dusty Classics will receive a shot at their division’s Tag Team titles.
