WWE NXT live results: TakeOver Stand & Deliver go-home show

The final episode of NXT before TakeOver: Stand & Deliver takes place tonight.

A 12-man battle royal with TakeOver implications is part of the lineup for tonight’s show. Dexter Lumis, Roderick Strong, Bronson Reed, Kushida, Leon Ruff, Jake Atlas, Pete Dunne, LA Knight, Cameron Grimes, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Austin Theory, and Tyler Rust are set for the battle royal. The final six wrestlers will advance to a Gauntlet Eliminator match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one. The winner of that match will challenge for Johnny Gargano’s North American Championship at night two of TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

Once tonight’s battle royal gets down to its final six, the order of elimination will determine the order of entry for the Gauntlet Eliminator match.

Strong and Grimes will be pulling double-duty tonight and also facing each other in a singles match.

Ahead of challenging for Io Shirai’s NXT Women’s Championship in the main event of TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one, Raquel Gonzalez will face Zoey Stark tonight.

Plus, Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter will take on Tian Sha, Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell will be in tag team action, and there will be a Prime Target special feature building up Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly’s unsanctioned match for TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

**********

The show is opening with a match set up in an angle on last week’s episode. Cameron Grimes is trying to aquire the intellectual property rights to the Undisputed Era since the group has broken up. He approached Roderick Strong on the previous episode, and Strong punched Grimes in the face. Thus, they have a match tonight that opens the show.

Before the match, Grimes has another pitch for Strong. This time Grimes had a visual aids, which are always better when pitching an idea. Grimes said they were leaving a lot of money on the table, but Grimes told Strong that “we can keep it going.” Grimes had a newly designed Undisputed Era t-shirt, with a slogan that read “GRIMES THE SYSTEM” on the front. Also included in the pitch was a theme song playing the “GRIMES THE SYSTEM” theme.

Strong was not impressed, and he attacked Grimes. So, I guess that is a hard “no” on Grimes’ pitch. The match was on when they got into the ring.

Cameron Grimes defeated Roderick Strong

Grimes pinned Strong after Strong was distracted by a prop. The match was way better than it reads with that seemingly lame finish. Great opener. Finish maybe not so great, but it played into a larger story with Strong.

Strong was basically kicking butt for much of the early portion, except when Grimes used dirty tactics to cut him off. Distracted by an Undisputed Era t-shirt in the crowd, Strong was sent crashing into a lighting grid. The show cut to picture-in-picture with Strong down selling his back. Strong kept fighting back, and they fought through the commercial break.

Grimes with heat on Strong, but Strong rallied for a near fall. They built to a superplex, and Grimes again kicked out at two. Grimes cut off Strong with a Spanish Fly crossbody, and Grimes went digging into his trunks. He retrieved a foreign object and tried to hit Strong with it, but Strong ducked the punch. Grimes dropped the object, and Strong picked it up. It was an Undisputed Era arm band.

Strong held the band in his hands, and he stood there in apparent shock at what he held. Grimes delivered a Cave In, and Grimes covered Strong for a pinfall.

A Karrion Kross vignette was much different than what we usually see from him and Scarlett. This was training montage where Kross said he is going back to his martial art roots. Kross is training to challenge Finn Balor for the NXT Championship on the second night of TakeOver.

WWE Superstars urged viewers to get vaccinated in a PSA that aired during a commercial break.

WALTER defending the NXT UK title against challenger Tommaso Ciampa was the focus of a video package. That bout takes place next Wednesday night on night one of TakeOver.

NXT moving to Tuesday nights on April 13th was announced on the air. Also plugged was Peacock. By the way, TakeOver next Wednesday will air live on USA Network, and it will also stream live on Peacock.

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar cut a promo making an open challenge. Escobar claimed to be the greatest cruiserweight ever, and he cut a promo on Jordan Devlin (who he faces at TakeOver in a title match). Tyler Breeze entered the soundstage to take Escobar up on the challenge.

NXT Crusierweight Champion Santos Escobar (with Legado del Fantasma) defeated Tyler Breeze in a non-title match

Escobar pinned Breeze in a tune-up match ahead of TakeOver.

Escobar was in control until Breeze cut him off just before the show cut to a commercial break. Escobar was somehow back in control when the show returned from the break. The announcers basically said Esobar has been working over a knee.

Breeze eventually made a comeback, and he locked in a Sharpshooter. Escobar got a rope break, and he came back to deliver the Phantom Driver. Escobar then covered Breeze for a clean pinfall.

Legado del Fantasma went to jump Breeze after the bell. MSK made a surprise return, and they ran to make a save. Grizzled Young Veterans popped on the video screen to cut a promo on both MSK and Legado del Fantasma. The three teams meet in a triple threat match for the vacant NXT Tag Team Championship next Wednesday on night one of TakeOver. Clever way to get the teams on the show to plug their match without having to create a whole new segment around them.

NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano was still angry about the gauntlet match for a shot at his title. He asked Austin Theory why he was in the match. Theory asked Gargano if he has ever heard of the Finger Poke of Doom. Gargano said that killed the business, but he still loved the idea.

A Pomeranian dog was seen walking up to the Performance Center. It looked a whole lot like Taya Valkyrie’s dog Prince Presley. He even has his own Twitter account, which predates his NXT debut.

Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell defeated Gigi Dolin & Zayda Ramier

Hartwell pinned Ramier to win the match. LeRae delivered Wicked Stepsister, and followed with a springboard flying elbow drop for the finish. Dolin is the former Priscilla Kelly.

LeRae cut a promo after the match challenging the NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. So, Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart rode out in Blackheart’s tank. They shot the heels with the tank cannon, and the title match is set for TakeOver.

Raquel Gonzalez attacked NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai backstage. They are feuding and all, but the attack was rather random.

Prince Presley the Pomeranian walked through an open door at the PC that was marked “EMPLOYEES ONLY” on the door. He then ran into the CWC. Somebody might want to shut that open door. It could attract racoons or other varmints.

Roderick Strong left the building, and he was even booked in the main event battle royal. He said he was done “with it all.”

Raquel Gonzalez (with Dakota Kai) defeated Zoey Stark

Gonzalez pinned Stark in a tune-up match ahead of TakeOver. She challenges Shirai in a title match that is the main event next Wednesday on TakeOver.

Gonzalez looked strong, but this was no squash. Stark was given plenty of offense. Kai tried to interfere, but Stark thwarted her. Stark was making a comeback when she executed a moonsault into a modified Blockbuster. Gonzalez cut her off to deliver her signature powerbomb, and then came a 1-2-3.

Shirai ran down after the match to attack Gonzalez, but Shirai was sent crashing into the barricade.

Prince Presley the Pomeranian was seen running around the PC having what appeared to be a great time.

Kushida was being interviewd backstage when Pete Dunne approached him. Dunne was mad that Kushida claimed to be the best technical wrestler. They glared at each other. Both are in the battle royal later on tonight.

A “Prime Target” mini-documentary hyped the unsanctioned grudge match between Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole. Great stuff here.

NXT’s move to Tuesday was mentioned again. The announcers said they were excited. Me too. I can soon watch AEW live on Wednedays, so I’m really happy about that. Don’t tell NXT I said that.

Tian Sha (Xia Li & Mei Ying) defeated Kayden Carter & Kacy Catanzaro

Li pinned Catanzaro to win the match. This was kind of weird. Not weird like The Fiend, but still weird. It was spooky too. Not Fiend spooky, but spooky nonetheless.

Li started the match alone as if it was a handicap match. Carter later went to confront Ying, who was sitting in her thrown on the stage. Ying choked out Carter. Meanwhile, Li delivered a kick to Catanzaro, and Li covered her for a pin.

Raquel Gonzalez was being interviewed backstage when she was attacked by Io Shirai. Gonzalez lifted her into a tree slam, and then Gonzalez slammed Shirai through a wall. Actaully, it appeared to be a window gimmicked with drywall, but the visual effect was similar to being thrown through a wall. Shirai sold big.

Presley the Pomeranian was seen running up someone wearing heels. “See you April 13th” read a message on the screen. The message was signed by a “Franky,” and WWE reportedly trademarked the name “Franky Monet” recently. That could possibly be Taya’s new WWE name.

Tommaso Ciampa cut a fire promo ahead of him challenging WALTER at TakeOver. Hot take: Ciampa is a great talker.

USA Network is using night one of TakeOver as a lead-in for the Queen of the South season finale.

LA Knight wins the Gauntlet Eliminator Qualifying Battle Royal

Qualified for the gauntlet match are LA Knight, Dexter Lumis, Cameron Grimes, Bronson Reed, Isaiah Scott, and Leon Ruff.

Leon Ruff and Isaiah “Swerve” Scott were headed to the ring first. They have been feuding, so Ruff attacked Scott before the bell. Scott was clotheslined out of the ring, and he was reeling as the show cut to a commercial break. Everybody else was in the ring when the show returned from the break, except for Pete Dunne. He got an entrance.

The battle royal soon began, and it was practically every battle royal you have ever seen. Lots of brawling and hanging on the ropes. Jake Atlas was the first eliminated, thanks in part to Malcolm Bivens at ringside. He grabbed Atlas’ foot, and Swerve Scott kicked Atlas off the apron to eliminate him. Biven’s charge, Tyler Rust, was next eliminated when Scott backdropped him over the ropes.

Theory was knocked out of the ring by Bronson Reed, but Theory landed on his back. His feet never touched the floor, so he was not yet eliminated. He scooted around ringside with his feet in the air like a turtle on his back. He did a kip up. Therefore, his feet touched the floor. Referee Aja Smith ruled he was eliminated from the match. Theory is supposed to be a dumb heel, but that was a little too dumb.

Also dumb was the story with Dexter Lumis in this match. He stood like a statue in a corner for much of the match. No one would attack him. Most everyone just avoided that corner.

Kushida and Dunne faced off after their confrontation earlier on the show. The story is they were apparently trying to decide which is the best technical wrestler. They did this by exchanging strikes, which is odd way to determine the best techincal wrestler. Kushida and Dunne then started going for submission holds. Kushida was countering a triangle by applying a Hoverboard Lock. They countered their way over the ropes, and both tumbled to the floor in a heap. Both were eliminated, but Kushida was still trying to apply his submission hold. Referees had to pull Kushida off Dunne.

The show cut to a picture-in-picture commercial break, and the battle royal continued in the ring. The final six were Lumis, Reed, Ruff, Scott, Grimes and Knight. Those six are in the gaunlet match next week. Also annonced for next Wednesday on TakeOver is singles match with Kushida vs. Dunne. Regal booked the match during the commecial break.

NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano joined the annonce desk for guest commentary. Reed eliminated Ruff and Scott, which means those two start the gaunlet match next week.

Reed was eliminated by Knight, so Reed is third entrant in the gauntlet match. The final three in the battle royal were Grimes, Lumis and Knight. By this point Lumis was finally getting involved in the match. Better late than never.

Grimes tried to bribe Knight and Lumis with lots of cash money. They threw Grimes out of the ring instead. That was dumb from a financial perspective. Take the money. You would still have a great spot in the gauntlet match, but whatever. Grimes is the fourth entrant for the gauntlet match.

For the finsh, Knight was charging towards Lumis. Knight went out of the ring, but he went sailing between the top and middle rope. Since he never went over the top, Knigth was not yet eliminated. Lumis was standing and the apron, and Knight pulled him off the apron to eliminate him. Not only does that make Knight the winner of the battle royal, he is also the sixth and final entrant for the gauntlet match. Lumis is now the fifth entrant in the gauntlet.

Shirai-Gonzalez brawl closes the show

Io Shirai ran into the ring as the show was wrapping up. Shirai cut a promo in Japanese, and Raquel Gonzalez came down to the ring to confront Shirai. Referees poured out for a pull-apart. Shirai booted Gonzalez off the apron, and then Shirai jumped off the top rope with a flying crossbody to the floor. The show closed with Shirai standing tall, finally getting the better of Gonzalez.

Gonzalez vs. Stark added to WWE NXT, The Way set for action

Before challenging for Io Shirai’s NXT Women’s Championship at TakeOver Stand & Deliver, Raquel Gonzalez will be in action on NXT tonight.

WWE has announced that Gonzalez vs. Zoey Stark will take place on tonight’s NXT. The episode is the go-home show for TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

Gonzalez & Dakota Kai defeated Shirai & Stark in a tag team match on NXT last week. After pinning Stark to get the win, Gonzalez attacked Shirai and slammed her onto the announce table.

Shirai vs. Gonzalez for the NXT Women’s Championship will be the main event of TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one. The two-night event is taking place on Wednesday, April 7 and Thursday, April 8. Night one will air live on the USA Network, while night two will be live on Peacock in the United States and live on the WWE Network everywhere else.

It’s also been announced that The Way’s Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell will be in tag team action on tonight’s NXT. The team they’ll be facing hasn’t been revealed.

Last week, there was a backstage segment where NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon were confronted by LeRae & Hartwell.

Tonight’s NXT will also include a Prime Target special feature building up Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly’s unsanctioned match for TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two. Here’s the updated lineup for tonight’s show:

  • 12-man battle royal to decide the six participants for Gauntlet Eliminator match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one (Dexter Lumis, Bronson Reed, Roderick Strong, Kushida, Leon Ruff, Jake Atlas, Pete Dunne, LA Knight, Cameron Grimes, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Austin Theory, and Tyler Rust will be the battle royal participants)
  • Raquel Gonzalez vs. Zoey Stark
  • Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell in tag team action
  • Kacy Catanzaro & Kayden Carter vs. Tian Sha
  • Roderick Strong vs. Cameron Grimes
  • Prime Target special feature: Adam Cole vs. Kyle O’Reilly

Once tonight’s battle royal gets down to the final six, the order of elimination will determine the entry order for the Gauntlet Eliminator match. The winner of the Gauntlet Eliminator match will challenge for Johnny Gargano’s NXT North American Championship at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two.

Last month, Barstool Sports’ Brandon Walker was a panelist for the TakeOver: Vengeance Day pre-show. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani appeared on the TakeOver: WarGames pre-show in December.

Both TakeOver: Stand & Deliver pre-shows will begin at 7 p.m. Eastern time. The pre-shows will air on Peacock in the United States and the WWE Network everywhere else, along with airing on WWE’s social media platforms.

WWE NXT moving to Tuesdays on USA, multi-year extension signed

The Wednesday Night War between AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT is officially coming to an end.

WWE and the USA Network announced today that, starting with the April 13 edition of the show, NXT will move to airing live on the USA Network on Tuesday nights. It was also announced that WWE and the USA Network have signed a multi-year extension for NXT to continue airing on the USA Network.

“We are incredibly proud of our three-decade partnership with WWE and in extending USA’s NXT deal, we are further establishing our portfolio as an unrivaled home for quality WWE content,” said Frances Berwick, Chairman, Entertainment Networks, NBCU. “By transitioning NXT to a Tuesday timeslot where WWE has performed well in the past, we are giving our passionate fanbase more of what they love with back-to-back nights of exhilarating, live programming.”

“We are thrilled to continue WWE and NBCUniversal’s longstanding partnership with the extension of NXT on USA Network,” said Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President, Global Talent Strategy & Development. “The move to Tuesdays provides a new opportunity for us to grow the NXT brand and enables our partner, USA Network, to continue to build its strong portfolio of sports and entertainment programming.”

Levesque also spoke to Variety about NXT’s move to Tuesday nights: “We now feel like we’re in a good place where we can move that consistent fanbase over to Tuesdays. We believe they’ll follow us. That way we can grow the brand more given the lead in from ‘Monday Night Raw,’ which we’ve seen in the past.”

The day after NXT episodes premiere on the USA Network, they’ll be made available on demand on Peacock in the United States.

Ahead of Dynamite making its debut, NXT began airing live weekly on the USA Network in September 2019. NXT had aired as a taped show on the WWE Network on Wednesday nights prior to that. The Wednesday Night War between Dynamite and NXT then kicked off on October 2, 2019.

It had been confirmed earlier this month that NXT was close to finalizing a move to Tuesday nights. In January, it was announced that NBCUniversal will be shutting down NBC Sports Network by the end of the year. Some of that sports programming will be moving to the USA Network, which — prior to the announcement of NXT moving to Tuesdays — would have created a conflict on Wednesday nights if NBCUniversal is able to retain rights to the NHL in the league’s next television package.

The Tuesday, April 13 episode of NXT will be the TakeOver: Stand & Deliver fallout edition of the show. TakeOver: Stand & Deliver is a two-night event that’s taking place on Wednesday, April 7 and Thursday, April 8. Night one will be live on the USA Network, while night two will be live on Peacock in the United States and live on the WWE Network everywhere else.

Tag Team title match official for next week’s NXT UK

WWE has officially confirmed Pretty Deadly’s first NXT UK Tag Team title defense.

Pretty Deadly (Sam Stoker & Lewis Howley) will defend their NXT UK Tag Team titles against Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan on NXT UK next Thursday (April 1). Pretty Deadly became the NXT UK Tag Team Champions by defeating Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang) for the titles last month.

Williams & Jordan were set up as Pretty Deadly’s first challengers by defeating Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster on NXT UK two weeks ago. Jordan wasn’t happy that Williams, who also cheated in the match where they defeated Ashton Smith & Oliver Carter the previous week, used a low blow on Webster to help get the win.

In a segment on NXT UK last week, Williams informed Jordan that they were getting a Tag Team title shot. Williams said him cheating against Andrews & Webster was just a “knee-jerk reaction” and promised that he would stick to whatever rules Jordan wants. Jordan told Williams that they didn’t need to cheat to win.

A promo from Pretty Deadly aired on this week’s NXT UK. Stoker & Howley said their match against Williams & Jordan will be the first of many successful title defenses in the never-ending era of Pretty Deadly.

It was also announced on this week’s NXT UK that Trent Seven will be in Tyler Bate’s corner when Bate faces Noam Dar in a Heritage Cup rules match at NXT UK: Prelude in two weeks (Thursday, April 8). Sha Samuels will be in Dar’s corner. The winner of Bate vs. Dar will become the number one contender to A-Kid’s Heritage Cup Championship. NXT UK: Prelude will also feature WALTER defending his NXT United Kingdom Championship against Rampage Brown. The show will air on Peacock in the United States/the WWE Network everywhere else starting at 3 p.m. EST/8 p.m. BST.

NXT UK results: Ilja Dragunov vs. Sam Gradwell no DQ match

Taped at BT Sport Studios in London, England

The Big Takeaways —

Ilja Dragunov won an epic battle over Sam Gradwell as they faced off in a no disqualification match. They did some insane stuff and this was one of the most brutal matches on WWE television in recent memory.

Joseph Conners got revenge on Jack Starz after his mixed tag team loss from a couple of weeks ago, Isla Dawn looked more violent than ever, and the new team of Primate & T-Bone also dominated with brutality.

It was announced that Trent Seven will be in Tyler Bate’s corner for Bate’s NXT UK: Prelude Heritage Cup rules match against Noam Dar in two weeks.

Full Rundown —

Supernova Sessions with Trent Seven

Noam Dar introduced Seven by talking about him being a failure and then asking Seven what it felt like to be a failure. Seven discussed his gruesome preparation for dropping down to cruiserweight. Dar said he liked talking about positive things and asked about how Seven got in shape, mentioning Zumba and other modern fitness regiments as a laugh track played. When Dar called him an outsider, Seven took offense to that and said he was one of the founding fathers of NXT UK.

Sha Samuels walked in and started berating Seven. Dar said that Samuels always has his back, but Seven’s friend Tyler Bate was nowhere to be seen. Samuels said he was always in Dar’s corner. Seven then said he would be in Bate’s corner for the Dar vs. Bate Heritage Cup rules number one contender’s match in two weeks at NXT UK: Prelude.

– A graphic plugged tonight’s Ilja Dragunov vs. Sam Gradwell no DQ match as the main event.

– Sid Scala talked to Joseph Conners and Jinny as they arrived at the building. Scala told Jinny that both she and Piper Niven would be banned from ringside for the match between Conners and Jack Starz tonight. Jinny argued with Scala but begrudgingly accepted the terms when he said it was Johnny Saint’s decision.

– A video looked at last week’s confrontation between WALTER and Rampage Brown. William Regal, Fit Finlay, Robbie Brookside, and Dave Taylor all weighed in on WALTER and Brown’s NXT United Kingdom Championship match that’s taking place at NXT UK: Prelude.

Joseph Conners defeated Jack Starz after hitting a hangman’s neckbreaker (6:51)

Starz pinned Conners a few weeks ago in a mixed tag match where they teamed with Piper Niven and Jinny respectively. The finish of the mixed tag had some controversy, with Niven giving Conners the Piper Driver and throwing Starz on top for the pin.

Starz and Conners felt each other out early here and traded a number of pinning combinations. Starz dropkicked Conners to ringside, then hit a dive onto him. Back inside, Starz hit a crossbody from the top for a two count. Conners took back over and grounded Starz down for a while until Starz countered a suplex.

Starz dominated, then hit an exploder for a very close near fall. Starz went for more pins, but Conners hit a snap DDT. Conners then followed with a hangman’s neckbreaker for the pinfall victory.

– Sam Gradwell was shown warming up backstage.

– Pretty Deadly cut a promo, talking about how they won the NXT UK Tag Team titles and ushered in the era of Pretty Deadly. Pretty Deadly said that their title defense against Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan next week will be the first of many defenses in their never-ending reign.

– Starz came backstage all despondent and apologized to Niven, who cheered him up. Niven said they’ll get right back to training at the NXT UK Performance Center tomorrow. She told Starz that she was proud of him and hugged him to cheer him up.

Primate & T-Bone (w/ Eddie Dennis) defeated Josh Morrell & Danny Jones when Primate pinned Jones after a flying headbutt from the top (6:28)

It seems Tyson T-Bone has lost his first name as he replaces Wild Boar in the team. Primate and T-Bone took out Boar in a backstage vignette two weeks ago at Eddie Dennis’ command (Boar has a legit knee injury, which was the reason for this angle).

T-Bone made quick work of Morrell early on. The heels quickly tagged in and out and T-Bone threw Morrell into his corner to tag. Primate then decimated Jones, again tagging in and out until Jones hit a backstabber and made the hot tag. Morrell got some offense in but was wiped out quickly by Primate. T-Bone sent Morrell to the outside, where Primate worked him over on Dennis’ instructions.

A double hot tag later, Jones quickly found himself on the receiving end of a T-Bone running powerslam, followed by a flying headbutt by Primate for the win.

– Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan worked out in the NXT UK Performance Center and were very confident about their Tag Team title match against Pretty Deadly next week.

Isla Dawn defeated Aleah James after hitting a half-and-half bridging suplex (4:17)

Dawn has been starring in some creepy vignettes lately where she’s read tarot cards, looked into a crystal ball, and had Latin words flash across the screen. Dawn was far more aggressive than in the past in this match.

They traded wristlocks early, then James used a roll-up out of the corner and followed with a dropkick. Dawn quickly dropped her with a head kick and hit a knee lift to the sternum for a near fall. Dawn hit another running knee to the neck, then followed with a Saito suplex. Dawn locked in a double chicken wing submission, but James escaped. James hit a springboard dropkick off the ropes for a near fall of her own.

Dawn dropped James face-first into the top rope off a wheelbarrow roll-up attempt. Dawn then hit a barrage of strikes and a half-and-half bridging suplex to get the win.

– Ilja Dragunov prepared by shadowboxing backstage.

– Nina Samuels was happy that her four weeks of being Xia Brookside’s personal assistant were coming up, but Brookside said there was still some time left and had her clean the men’s bathroom.

– Dawn was backstage, dancing around as if in some kind of trance as eerie music played. NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray walked up to her and told her that if we had seen Dawn show more of that aggressive side early on, maybe she could be in KLR’s position today. Dawn stared at her as the lights flickered, but KLR would have none of that creepy stuff and just walked off.

– A graphic officially announced next week’s NXT UK Tag Team title match between Pretty Deadly and Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan.

No DQ match: Ilja Dragunov defeated Sam Gradwell (14:47)

Gradwell has been provoking Dragunov for the last several weeks, gleefully enjoying it whenever Dragunov snapped. He cut a promo on Dragunov last week, suggesting all kinds of matches he would beat Dragunov in. Dragunov accepted the no DQ one.

Gradwell threw his jacket in Dragunov’s face as he entered the ring and beat him down right away. Dragunov came back with a flying kick that threw Gradwell to ringside. Gradwell grabbed a chair, but Dragunov kicked it into his face. Back in the ring, Gradwell evaded a German suplex attempt with a judo throw but got wiped out with the Konstantin Special. Dragunov followed with a coast-to-coast as Gradwell tried talking him down.

Dragunov struggled to keep his composure at times. He charged at Gradwell on the outside, but Gradwell grabbed the ring bell and hit Dragunov with it. Gradwell whipped Dragunov with a cable, then choked him with it and whiplashed him head-first onto the mats. Gradwell repeatedly hit Dragunov with the edge of a chair and then suplexed him onto the chair for good measure.

Gradwell removed some turnbuckle pads, but Dragunov blocked and hit a few elbow strikes. They battled on the top and Dragunov threw Gradwell off the top face-first. Gradwell threw a turnbuckle pad into Dragunov’s face, then Gradwell shoved Dragunov and he landed on the exposed top turnbuckle. Dragunov was then sent flying into the dasherboards.

Dragunov came back with a clothesline. He went to drop the ring steps onto Gradwell, who begged off and apologized to Dragunov. As Dragunov showed mercy for Gradwell and went to put down the steps, Gradwell hit him with a chair. But Dragunov avoided the next chair shot and dropped Gradwell with two rolling German suplexes onto the mats. Gradwell then ate some more chops and kicks.

Gradwell told Dragunov to stop and mentioned his own son, but he then kicked Dragunov’s leg and hit a Death Valley Driver onto the ring steps. Back in the ring, Gradwell scored a close near fall.

Gradwell got more chairs and piled them in the center of the ring. They traded offense and Dragunov slammed Gradwell’s head into the exposed turnbuckle. Dragunov then hit a backbreaker before putting Gradwell onto the chairs. He went for a top rope senton, but Gradwell moved and Dragunov crashed onto the chairs. Dragunov kicked out of the subsequent cover.

Gradwell went to chop the back of Dragunov’s neck, but he thought better of it as that has sent Dragunov into a frenzy in the past. Gradwell opted for slaps instead but hit one inadvertently on the back of the neck, causing Dragunov to snap.

Dragunov hit a Gotch lift onto the pile of chairs, then ground and pounded Gradwell into oblivion as Gradwell frantically tapped out from the punches. Dragunov narrowly managed to control himself as the referee talked him into stopping.

Final Thoughts —

The main event was insane and probably the most brutal WWE match since WALTER vs. Ilja Dragunov from last year (recognize a pattern there?). Dragunov has such disregard for his own physical health that it is both fascinating and worrisome to watch at times. Sam Gradwell also played his role perfectly here.

It seems like Isla Dawn is being set up for an NXT UK Women’s Championship match against Kay Lee Ray down the line. Primate & T-Bone looked impressive as a team, more like two bar brawlers than wrestlers. They should be on their way to a Tag Team title shot as well, with Eddie Dennis expertly puppeteering them on their path there.

I could see Trent Seven turning against Tyler Bate during NXT UK: Prelude, either during or after the match and somehow costing Bate the win. It might make sense for the older Seven, who could not reach his goals of either winning the Heritage Cup tournament or the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, to finally become jealous of his younger, more successful protege. This would both lead to A-Kid vs. Noam Dar and a hopefully lengthy Bate vs. Seven feud.

One thing that irks me in current NXT/NXT UK storylines is that WALTER will defend the NXT United Kingdom Championship against Tommaso Ciampa at TakeOver Stand & Deliver night one, then WALTER and Rampage Brown’s title match will air on NXT UK: Prelude less than 24 hours later. If WALTER loses to Ciampa, the match on Thursday for the title makes no sense. If WALTER loses to Brown, this show very publicly being taped weeks before the Ciampa match also looks bad. So I guess the only thing that makes sense is that WALTER keeps the title in both matches.

Next Week —

  • NXT UK Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly defend against Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan

WWE NXT video highlights: Adam Cole-Kyle O’Reilly contract signing

Image: WWE

In the main event segment of last night’s NXT, Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly made their match for TakeOver: Stand & Deliver official.

After weeks of the former Undisputed Era stablemates attacking each other and getting into altercations, NXT general manager William Regal ordered Cole and O’Reilly to appear last night. Regal presented them with a solution to their issues: a contract for an unsanctioned match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two. The match only became official when Cole and O’Reilly signed the contract and acknowledged that NXT isn’t responsible for what they do to each other.

The unsanctioned stipulation is also due to O’Reilly not being medically cleared to compete in storyline. He was given a brainbuster on the steel steps by Cole last month.

During the contract signing, Cole spoke about watching O’Reilly unsuccessfully challenge for the NXT Championship twice and then try to get Finn Balor to join Undisputed Era. Cole insulted O’Reilly by saying that, deep down in his core, O’Reilly is nothing more than a lapdog. Cole said O’Reilly is comfortable sitting on the sidelines and being a sidekick. Cole called himself the greatest NXT Champion there’s ever been and said he’s nothing like O’Reilly.

Cole also claimed that O’Reilly never would have made it to WWE without him.

O’Reilly said that he’s grown up and has started to take accountability for his actions, but Cole is still the same asshole he was when Undisputed Era came to NXT. O’Reilly said he sold his soul for Undisputed Era and now wants it back. He said that, for the first time in four years, he’ll sleep like a baby after he defeats Cole at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

Last night’s NXT ended with Cole and O’Reilly being kept apart by officials after signing the contract for TakeOver. In a post-show angle, O’Reilly called Cole back out and wanted to have their match immediately. Cole took out two officials and punched Regal as he unsuccessfully tried to get to O’Reilly.

Battle royal with TakeOver implications set for WWE NXT

A multi-step process will determine NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano’s challenger for TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

WWE has announced that a 12-man battle royal will take place on next Wednesday’s episode of NXT. The final six wrestlers in the battle royal will advance to a Gauntlet Eliminator match that’s taking place at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one on Wednesday, April 7. The winner of the Gauntlet Eliminator match will then challenge for Gargano’s North American Championship at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two on Thursday, April 8.

Dexter Lumis, Bronson Reed, Pete Dunne, Roderick Strong, Cameron Grimes, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Leon Ruff, Kushida, Austin Theory, LA Knight, Tyler Rust, and Jake Atlas are the 12 wrestlers who will be taking part in the battle royal. The order in which the final six wrestlers are eliminated from the battle royal will determine their entry order in the Gauntlet Eliminator match.

The Gauntlet Eliminator match will start with two wrestlers in the ring. Every three minutes, a new wrestler will be added. Eliminations can occur via pinfall or submission.

Gargano has been NXT North American Champion since December. He retained the title against Kushida at TakeOver: Vengeance Day last month.

Lumis, who has been feuding with Gargano, defeated Gargano in a non-title match on NXT four weeks ago.

Strong and Grimes will be wrestling twice on NXT next Wednesday. Strong vs. Grimes in a singles match has also been announced for the show. On tonight’s NXT, there was a backstage segment where Strong punched Grimes. Grimes had approached Strong and wanted to buy Undisputed Era’s intellectual property.

Stipulation set for NXT TakeOver Cruiserweight title unification match

Image: WWE

A stipulation has been added to Jordan Devlin and Santos Escobar’s title unification match at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

Devlin vs. Escobar at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver will now be a ladder match to determine the undisputed NXT Cruiserweight Champion. The match will be part of the card for TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two on Thursday, April 8.

Shawn Michaels made an appearance on NXT tonight to reveal that Devlin vs. Escobar will now be a ladder match. While Devlin and Escobar were going face-to-face, Michaels came down to the ring, got a ladder out, and slid it into the ring. Michaels then left without saying a word.

At WrestleMania X in 1994, Razor Ramon defeated Michaels in a ladder match to determine an undisputed WWF Intercontinental Champion.

Devlin and Escobar are both considered NXT Cruiserweight Champions by WWE. Devlin won the NXT Cruiserweight Championship at Worlds Collide in January of last year. But with Devlin unable to defend the title due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a tournament was announced to crown an interim champion. The interim branding was then dropped from the tournament as it was going on. Escobar won his version of the NXT Cruiserweight Championship by defeating Drake Maverick in the tournament finals.

A confrontation between Devlin and Escobar on last week’s NXT ended with Devlin laying out Escobar with a headbutt and the Devlin Side suplex. Devlin was then in action on tonight’s NXT and defeated Kushida. Devlin got the win despite Legado Del Fantasma trying to cost him the match.

Here’s a look at the cards for both nights of TakeOver: Stand & Deliver:

TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one (airing live on the USA Network on Wednesday, April 7) —

  • NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai defends against Raquel Gonzalez
  • NXT United Kingdom Champion WALTER defends against Tommaso Ciampa

  • Gauntlet Eliminator match to determine NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano’s challenger for TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two (a 12-man battle royal on next week’s NXT will determine the six participants for the Gauntlet Eliminator match)

TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two (airing live on Peacock in the United States/WWE Network everywhere else on Thursday, April 8) —

  • NXT Champion Finn Balor defends against Karrion Kross
  • Unsanctioned match: Adam Cole vs. Kyle O’Reilly
  • Ladder match to determine undisputed NXT Cruiserweight Champion: Jordan Devlin vs. Santos Escobar
  • NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano defends against the winner of the Gauntlet Eliminator match from night one

Adam Cole to face Kyle O’Reilly in NXT TakeOver unsanctioned match

Former Undisputed Era stablemates Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly will clash in an unsanctioned match at NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

It was announced on tonight’s NXT that Cole will face O’Reilly in an unsanctioned match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two. The match will be the co-main event of that night’s card.

Going into tonight’s NXT, it was announced that NXT general manager William Regal would address Cole and O’Reilly’s recent actions. Since Cole turned against O’Reilly at TakeOver: Vengeance Day last month, they’ve each attacked each other and have gotten into multiple altercations. There was an angle on last week’s NXT where police got involved after O’Reilly tried to run Cole off the road. WWE also uploaded video earlier this week of Cole confronting O’Reilly while O’Reilly was taking part in a jiu-jitsu training session.

Regal told Cole and O’Reilly tonight that things between them have gotten out of control. Regal said he’s not going to let them embarrass this company. Regal then presented them with a solution for the situation — a contract for an unsanctioned match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

In storyline, the unsanctioned stipulation was needed due to O’Reilly still not being cleared to compete after Cole gave him a brainbuster on the steel steps last month. It was said that the match only became official when Cole and O’Reilly signed the contract and acknowledged that NXT isn’t responsible for anything that happens to them.

Tonight’s NXT ended with Cole and O’Reilly being kept apart by officials after they signed the contract for their unsanctioned match. Cole said he turned against Undisputed Era because he realized that the group was holding him back. Cole said that, deep down in his core, O’Reilly is nothing more than a lapdog. Cole said O’Reilly is comfortable sitting on the sidelines and being a sidekick. Cole called himself the greatest NXT Champion there’s ever been and said he’s nothing like O’Reilly.

Cole said Undisputed Era was never about friendship or a brotherhood — it was about being the best. Cole claimed that O’Reilly never would have made it to WWE without him.

O’Reilly said that while he’s grown up and has started to be accountable for his actions, Cole is still the same asshole that he was when Undisputed Era came to NXT. O’Reilly said he sold his soul for the Undisputed Era and now wants it back. O’Reilly said that, for the first time in four years, he’ll sleep like a baby after defeating Cole at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

Here are the updated cards for TakeOver:

TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one (airing live on the USA Network on Wednesday, April 7) —

  • Ladder match to determine undisputed NXT Cruiserweight Champion: Jordan Devlin vs. Santos Escobar
  • NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano defends against the winner of the Gauntlet Eliminator match from night one

WALTER vs. Ciampa UK title match added to NXT TakeOver

The NXT United Kingdom Championship will officially be on the line at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.

WWE has announced that WALTER will defend his NXT United Kingdom Championship against Tommaso Ciampa at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one. The match was made official after a challenge that was issued by Ciampa on NXT tonight.

WALTER and Ciampa’s feud began when Ciampa mentioned WALTER on NXT two weeks ago. After Imperium invited Timothy Thatcher to join them and said that he could bring Ciampa along too, Ciampa told Thatcher that he’s not interested in joining Imperium. But Ciampa said he was interested in facing Imperium’s general. Ciampa said WALTER was sitting safely across the pond holding onto the NXT United Kingdom Championship while the rest of Imperium did his dirty work.

On last week’s NXT, WALTER returned to the show for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. After Ciampa defeated Marcel Barthel, WALTER confronted Ciampa and then laid him out after Ciampa was attacked by Barthel and Fabian Aichner.

WALTER quickly defeated Drake Maverick by referee stoppage on NXT tonight. Ciampa then came to the ring and addressed WALTER. Ciampa said he misspoke when he said WALTER intrigues him. Ciampa said what actually intrigues him is WALTER’s NXT United Kingdom Championship. Ciampa challenged WALTER to a title match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, but WALTER initially dismissed him.

Ciampa then slapped WALTER as he was leaving the ring. Ciampa was held down by Barthel and Aichner but kept fighting back. The segment ended with WALTER chopping Ciampa and accepting his challenge for TakeOver.

Thatcher hasn’t appeared on NXT either of the past two weeks.

WALTER has been NXT United Kingdom Champion since April 2019. He also has a title defense against Rampage Brown that’s been announced for NXT UK: Prelude. That show will air the day after TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one.

TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one is airing live on the USA Network on Wednesday, April 7. On Thursday, April 8, night two will be live on Peacock in the United States and live on the WWE Network everywhere else. Here are the updated cards for the event:

TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one —

  • NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai defends against Raquel Gonzalez
  • NXT United Kingdom Champion WALTER defends against Tommaso Ciampa
  • Triple threat match for the vacant NXT Tag Team titles: MSK (Wes Lee & Nash Carter) vs, The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) vs. Legado Del Fantasma (Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde)
  • Gauntlet Eliminator match to determine NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano’s challenger for TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two (a 12-man battle royal on next week’s NXT will determine the six participants for the Gauntlet Eliminator match)

TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two —

  • NXT Champion Finn Balor defends against Karrion Kross
  • Unsanctioned match: Adam Cole vs. Kyle O’Reilly
  • Ladder match to determine undisputed NXT Cruiserweight Champion: Jordan Devlin vs. Santos Escobar
  • NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano defends against winner of Gauntlet Eliminator match from night one

New NXT tag champs to be crowned at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver

WWE has revealed how NXT’s next Tag Team Champions will be decided.

On tonight’s episode of NXT, it was announced that MSK (Wes Lee & Nash Carter), The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake), and Legado Del Fantasma (Raul Mendoza & Joaquin Wilde) will face off in a triple threat match at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one. The winning team will become the new NXT Tag Team Champions.

The NXT Tag Team titles were declared vacant after Danny Burch suffered a separated shoulder while teaming with Oney Lorcan against Finn Balor & Karrion Kross in the main event of last week’s NXT. It was said tonight that Burch is expected to be out of action for six months.

Lorcan & Burch had been NXT Tag Team Champions since winning the titles from Breezango in October of last year.

MSK defeated The Grizzled Young Veterans in the men’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic finals at TakeOver: Vengeance Day last month. MSK were supposed to challenge for Lorcan & Burch’s Tag Team titles on NXT three weeks ago, but that didn’t happen due to Lee suffering a broken hand. In storyline, the injury was blamed on an attack by The Grizzled Young Veterans.

Mendoza & Wilde defeated Breezango on NXT last week.

Legado Del Fantasma’s Santos Escobar is also set for action at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver.  NXT Cruiserweight Champions Escobar and Jordan Devlin will face off in a title unification match at night two of the event.

TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night one will air live on the USA Network on Wednesday, April 7. Night two will be live on Peacock in the United States and live on the WWE Network everywhere else. Night one will be headlined by Io Shirai defending her NXT Women’s Championship against Raquel Gonzalez, while night two will be headlined by Balor defending his NXT Championship against Kross.

WWE NXT live results: Regal addresses Cole and O’Reilly

On tonight’s NXT, Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly will face the consequences for their recent actions.

Undisputed Era imploded when Cole turned against O’Reilly at TakeOver: Vengeance Day last month. They’ve since attacked each other and have gotten into multiple altercations. Last week, there was an angle where police got involved when O’Reilly tried to run Cole off the road. WWE also posted video yesterday of Cole and O’Reilly brawling after Cole confronted O’Reilly at a jiu-jitsu training session.

NXT general manager William Regal has demanded that Cole and O’Reilly appear tonight. They’ll face the consequences for their actions and Regal will attempt to find a solution for their issues.

Regal will also address the situation with the NXT Tag Team titles tonight. The titles have been declared vacant after Danny Burch suffered a separated shoulder in last week’s main event. Burch & Oney Lorcan retained their titles against NXT Champion Finn Balor & Karrion Kross after Kross attacked Balor during the match. Balor is defending his NXT Championship against Kross at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two on Thursday, April 8.

Kross and Lorcan will face off on tonight’s show.

Five other matches have also been announced for tonight. They are: Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon vs. Aliyah & Mercedes Martinez for the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles, NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai & Zoey Stark vs. Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai, NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin vs. Kushida in a non-title match, NXT United Kingdom Champion WALTER vs. Drake Maverick in a non-title match, and Bronson Reed vs. LA Knight.

Our live coverage begins at 8 p.m. Eastern time.

*********

The show is opening with a women’s tag team match.

Announced as the main event for night one of TakeOver: Stand and Deliver is Io Shirai defending her NXT Women’s Championship against challenger Raquel Gonzalez.

Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez defeated Zoey Stark & NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai

Gonzalez pinned Stark in a good tag match. The focus was on getting heat on Gonzalez ahead of her challenging Shirai for the title.

Stark started the match against Gonzalez, and Stark began an flurry of offense. Gonzalez cut her off with a lariat. Kai tagged in, and Stark fired up of her. Shirai runs through some sequences with Kai. Shirai with several two counts on Kai. Stark back to also get a two count on Kai.

Gonzalez with a fireman’s carry slam on Stark dropped her into a falling kick from Kai. The show went to a picture-in-picture commercial break. Lots of action during the break as Stark fought back. The heels still began to work her over.

Hot tag to Shirai as the show returned from the commercial break. Gonzalez and Shirai were in the ring together for the first time in the match. Shirai was running wild, and she hit Gonzalez with a Tiger Feint Kick. Shirai followed with a missile dropkick, and Stark flew off the top rope with another. Stark also with a plancho to the outside. Stark cleaned house on the floor, and Shirai leapt off the top rope into a moonsault on the floor.

Stark went on to miss a 450 splash, and Gonzalez cut her off. Gonzalez lifted Stark into the air and held her, and then Gonzalez booted Shirai off the apron. Gonzalez powerbombed Stark, and then she pinned her.

Gonzalez and Kai attacked Shirai after the match. Gonzalez chokeslammed Shirai on the announce desk. Shirai landed hard, and she sold big.

Strong says O’Reilly and Cole can “go to hell”

Footage aired of Adam Cole invading the gym where Kyle O’Reilly trains in BJJ. Cole and O’Reilly brawled before Cole was kicked out of the place.

O’Reilly in an interview with McKenzie Mitchell was interrupted by Roderick Strong. He told O’Reilly that “we” need to kick Cole’s ass. O’Reilly said he appreciated that, but there is no “us” anymore. This is between Cole and O’Reilly. Strong responded by saying they both could “go to hell.”

LA Knight cut a promo on Bronson Reed before the next match. Knight was Reed went through his locker.

Jordan Devlin, with a NXT Cruiserweight Championship belt draped over his shoulder, cut a promo on Kushida ahead of their match later on tonight.

Bronson Reed defeated LA Knight

Reed pinned Knight clean. In the immortal words of Vinny V, “It was a match.”

Knight got into Reed’s face at the start of the match. Knight then began to repeatedly poke Reed in the forehead. Of course, Reed did not appreciate that very much, so Reed began to pummel Knight.

Reed was in complete control until Knight turned the tide. Knight paused to talk trash as the show cut to a commercial break. Knight was working over Reed as the show returned from the break.

Reed was hulking up into a comeback when Knight caught him with a neckbreaker. Knight ran into a back elbow, and Reed started a comeback. Reed mowed down Knight, and Knight was planted by a chokeslam. Reed was tripped up and crotched when he tried climbing the turnbuckles. Reed still managed to shove Knight off the top, and Reed followed with a tsunami splash. Reed then pinned Knight clean as a sheet.

A video package sponsored by a cellphone company hyped NXT UK Champion WALTER. Also, he is in action tonight! Horray!

Karrion Kross (with Scarlett) vs. Oney Lorcan

Kross looked strong as he pinned Lorcan.

Lorcan was fighting mad, and he showed a lot of fire. However, Kross is a killer. He threw Lorcan out to the floor, and Kross stalked him. Lorcan fought back, and he fired up on Kross. Not for long, as Kross cut him off with a lariat from hell.

The match went through a commercial break, and Kross ended it soon thereafter. Lorcan got one more rally. Kross posted himself into a ring post, and Lorcan targeted the arm. Lorcan with a series of chops and a flurry of uppercuts. Kross soon booted him in the face to end the rally.

Kross with a running uppercut from behind, and he covered Lorcan for a pinfall.

Kross after the match cut a promo on NXT Champion Finn Balor. That broght out Balor to respond. Balor confronted Kross in the ring. Great stuff here in building to TakeOver. The segment ended with staredown in the ring.

Gauntlet eliminator announcement

William Regal announced a battle royal for next week on NXT, which will determine who challenges NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano. The last six wrestlers in a 12-man battle royal will meet the following week in a six-man gauntlet eliminator. The order in which the last six in the battle royal are thrown out determines their order in the gaunlet. The winner of the gauntlet eliminator faces Gargano on night two of TakeOver: Stand and Deliver.

Kushida in Japanese cut a promo on Jordan Devlin ahead of their match later on.

NXT UK Champion WALTER (with Imperium) vs. Drake Maverick in a non-title match

WALTER quickly squashed Maverick, and he won via referee stoppage. Maverick charged in, and WALTER easily struck him down. WALTER powerbombed Maverick, and WALTER then sat back on a half crab. The ref stepped in to stop the match.

Tommaso Ciampa confronted WALTER after the match. Ciampa challenged WALTER to a title match at TakeOver. WALTER shook his head and went to leave. Ciampa went to attack him, but Imperium ganged up on Ciampa. Imperium held Ciampa for an Andre/Hogan moment where WALTER ripped off Ciampa’s necklace. Ciampa was then beaten down and WALTER accepted the challenge for a title match at TakeOver.

Pete Dunne cut a promo about the battle royal next week. He vowed to win and go on to capture the North Amerian title.

Robert Stone in a pre-skit skit bribed Mercedes Martinez to be Aliyah tag team partner for a title match tonight.

A video package advertising a cellphone company featured highlights of Shotzi Blackheart.

NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano confronted Willian Regal backstage about the earlier announcement. Gargano was very upset. Regal couldn’t believe Gargano wore the title belt everywhere. This was funny.

NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Ember Moon & Shotzi Blackheart defeated Mercedes Martinez & Aliyah to retain their titles

Moon pinned Aliyah after an Eclipse. Heat on Blackheart. Hot tag to Moon for the finish. The champs looked strong.

Cameron Grimes pulled up a chair next to Roderick Strong in the locker room. Grimes tried to empathize with Strong, and Grimes said he was taking it just as bad as Strong. Grimes said Undisputed Era does not have to end like this. Grimes offered to buy the intellectual property. Strong punched him the face. Grimes sold big and hollered at Strong that was not how to handle business.

Moon & Blackheart were challenged to a title match by Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell.

Jordan Devlin defeated Kushida

Devlin pinned Kushida after interference by Legado del Fantasma. Good match with an even better angle afterwards.

Grappling and sequences built to Devlin doing an Asai moonsault to the floor. The show cut a picture-in-picture commercial break. The continued to fight through the break. Kusida eventually made a comeback with a flurry of offense.

Devlin a few times blocked Kushida from applying his signature armbar. Devlin caught Kushida with a slingshot cutter for a near fall. Santos Escobar and Legado del Fantasma walked on stage to distract Devlin. Kushdia with a superplex on Devlin, and Kushida floated over for another suplex. Kushida then transitioned into a cross armbreaker. Devlin got his foot on the rope to break the hold, but Rauk Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde pulled Devlin out of the ring.

Kushida knocked Wilde and Mendoza off the apron with a handspring kick. Kushida now had his back to Devlin, who used an O’Connor roll set up pinning Kushida with a bridging cradle.

An upset Kushida after the match wiped out Wilde and Mendoza with a flip dive out of the ring. Kushida did another running flip dive off the stage onto Mendoza and Wilde. Meanwhile, the two Cruiserweight champions confronted each other in the ring.

HBK sets up a ladder match

Escobar and Devlin met face-to-face with each holding their version of the Cruiserweight title belt. Suddenly, Shawn Michael’s theme song blared over the speakers, and out comes HBK.

Michaels pulled a ladder from underneath the ring, and he slid the ladder into the ring between Devlin and Escobar. They each held up their title as they faced off. Looks like the Cruiserweight title bout at TakeOver is now a ladder match.

O’Reilly vs. Cole set for TakeOver

Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole were seated across from each other at a table. They were glaring holes through each other as William Regal began to rant at them. Regal said the situation between O’Reilly and Cole was gotten out of hand. Regal screamed that they “got the bloody police involved!” Regal said he would not let them embarass the company so many people worked hard to create.

Regal revealed he had a contract for the co-main event on the second night of TakeOver. Regal said if they signed the contract then NXT is not responsible for what happens in the match. So I guess its unsanctioned, or lights out, or something like that.

Cole talked about having a revelation. Cole said Undisputed Era was holding him back. He went on to say O’Reilly made him realize that. Cole said he bought into “B.S” about Undisputed Era being a brotherhood. Cole was also angry O’Reilly wanted Balor to joing UE. Cole called O’Reilly a “lap dog” as he proceeded to bury O’Reilly with his words.

Cole said O’Reilly should thank him. Cole put himself over as the driving force behind UE. Cole signed the contract, and slid it to O’Reilly.

O’Reilly talked about UE showing up in NXT to make a statement. He likened them to pit bulls. O’Reilly said he grew up and developed accountability. You look a man in the eye when you kick his teeth in. No more sneak attacks. No more B.S.

O’Reilly said since they came to NXT they became better wrestlers, better champions, and better superstars. However, only one of them became a better person. O’Reilly said Cole is the same “asshole” that walked in to NXT three-and-a-half years ago.

O’Reilly sold his soul for Undisputed Era, and O’Reilly wants his soul back. According to O’Reilly, Cole sold out his friends. O’Reilly said he is going to beat Cole, and then finally be able to sleep at night. O’Reilly finished signing the contract, and he threw the pen at Cole. They both lunged at each other, but they were held back. Tremendous closing angle.

Martinez replacing Kamea in NXT Women’s Tag Team title match

WWE has announced a change to tonight’s NXT Women’s Tag Team title match.

NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon will now defend their titles against Aliyah & Mercedes Martinez on tonight’s show. It was originally announced that Blackheart & Moon would be facing The Robert Stone Brand’s Aliyah & Jessi Kamea.

In a video that WWE uploaded this afternoon, Robert Stone said Kamea was injured while training for tonight’s match. Stone and Aliyah approached Martinez and offered her the “life-changing opportunity” to challenge for the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles with Aliyah tonight. When Martinez saw how much money Stone was offering her, she told Stone that would only be half of her pay. Martinez said she expects to be paid the other half after tonight’s match. When Martinez left, Stone said he doesn’t have any more money.

Martinez was formerly part of The Robert Stone Brand prior to her call-up to the main roster last year. She was written out of the group by being served with a restraining order from Stone after losing a steel cage match to Rhea Ripley last September. After briefly being part of RETRIBUTION on the main roster, Martinez returned to NXT in December.

This will be Blackheart & Moon’s first NXT Women’s Tag Team title defense. The titles were introduced two weeks ago and awarded to women’s Dusty Classic winners Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai, but Gonzalez & Kai lost the titles to Blackheart & Moon that same night.

The Robert Stone Brand had interrupted an interview with Blackheart & Moon on last week’s NXT and challenged them to a Women’s Tag Team title match.

Here’s the updated lineup for tonight’s NXT:

  • NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon defend against Aliyah & Jessi Kamea
  • NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai & Zoey Stark vs. Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai
  • Karrion Kross vs. Oney Lorcan
  • NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin vs. Kushida in a non-title match
  • NXT United Kingdom Champion WALTER vs. Drake Maverick in a non-title match
  • Bronson Reed vs. LA Knight
  • NXT general manager William Regal will address Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly
  • Regal will also give an update on the situation with the vacant NXT Tag Team titles

Four matches added to this week’s WWE NXT

WWE has made four new match announcements for this week’s episode of NXT.

Karrion Kross vs. Oney Lorcan, NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin vs. Kushida in a non-title match, NXT United Kingdom Champion WALTER vs. Drake Maverick in a non-title match, and Bronson Reed vs. LA Knight have all been added to the card for this Wednesday’s NXT.

Kross vs. Lorcan and Reed vs. Knight were both set up by messages that were sent to NXT general manager William Regal. After Regal announced that the NXT Tag Team titles have been declared vacant due to Burch suffering a separated shoulder, Lorcan sent out a tweet blaming Kross for Burch’s injury. Lorcan told Regal to give him a match against Kross.

Burch suffered the separated shoulder while he and Lorcan were defending their NXT Tag Team titles against Kross & NXT Champion Finn Balor last week. Lorcan & Burch retained after Kross attacked Balor during the match. Right before being attacked by Kross, Balor had hit a dropkick on Lorcan that knocked Scarlett down. Balor is defending his NXT Championship against Kross at TakeOver: Stand & Deliver night two on Thursday, April 8.

Knight posted a video on Tuesday night telling Regal that he wants a match against Reed. Reed then responded and said he wants the match as well. Reed said Knight stuck his nose in Reed’s business first by costing him a match against Cameron Grimes three weeks ago. This will be the second match that Knight (formerly known as Eli Drake) has had in NXT. On last week’s episode, Knight made his NXT in-ring debut by defeating August Grey.

Devlin vs. Kushida was announced after Kushida answered an open challenge that was issued by Devlin. At TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, NXT Cruiserweight Champions Devlin and Santos Escobar are facing off in a title unification match.

WWE uploaded video of an angle on Tuesday where Maverick was looking for Killian Dain and barged into Imperium’s locker room questioning them. WALTER took a weapon out of Maverick’s hands and asked him who he thinks he is. WALTER told Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner that he’ll take care of the problem with Maverick on Wednesday’s NXT.

Last week, WALTER returned to NXT for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. He laid out Tommaso Ciampa on the episode.

Here’s the updated lineup for this week’s NXT:

  • NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon defend against Aliyah & Jessi Kamea
  • NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai & Zoey Stark vs. Raquel Gonzalez & Dakota Kai
  • Karrion Kross vs. Oney Lorcan
  • NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin vs. Kushida in a non-title match
