Women’s Tag Team title tournament match set for next WWE SmackDown

A Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament semifinals match, plus Ricochet vs. Happy Corbin have been announced for the August 26 WWE SmackDown.

In the Women’s Tag title tournament, Toxic Attraction’s Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne will face Raquel Rodriguez and Aliyah.

Dolin and Jayne replaced Zoey Stark and Nikkita Lyons in the tournament after Stark suffered a concussion in her NXT Heatwave match against Mandy Rose this week. Dolin and Jayne defeated Natalya and Sonya Deville on Friday’s SmackDown to advance in the tournament.

Dave Meltzer reported in today’s Daily Update that Lyons would not have been allowed to enter Canada for Friday’s SmackDown anyway due to not being vaccinated against COVID-19, and that WWE was not aware of her vaccination status when Stark and Lyons were booked for the tournament:

Stark suffered a concussion in her match Tuesday with Mandy Rose and wasn’t cleared. Lyons wouldn’t have been allowed to go as they didn’t realize she wasn’t vaccinated and thus couldn’t get into Canada.

Also announced for next week, Ricochet will face Happy Corbin in a singles contest.

Here is the lineup for next week’s SmackDown:

  • WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship tournament semifinals: Toxic Attraction (Gigi Dolin & Jacy Jayne) vs. Raquel Rodriguez & Aliyah
  • Ricochet vs. Happy Corbin
