Edge 25 years celebration set for WWE SmackDown in Toronto

WWE will celebrate25 years of Edge’s career on the Friday, August 18 episode of SmackDown in Toronto.

As announced during this week’s SmackDown show, Edge will appear in Toronto for a celebration of the 25th anniversary of his WWE debut in two weeks.

Edge was first advertised for the Toronto SmackDown back in June.

Following his most recent match in Toronto last August, Edge teased that this summer’s Toronto show could be for his final WWE match, but he has since hinted that his career won’t wrap up until he gets a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, currently held by Seth Rollins.

After a feud with The Judgment Day ended at last October’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view, Edge returned to the ring at the 2023 Royal Rumble in January. He then teamed with wife Beth Phoenix against Rhea Ripley and Finn Balor at February’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view in Montreal.

In his matches since, Edge has lost a US title bout against Austin Theory, defeated Balor in a Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 39, dropped a triple threat match to AJ Styles in the World Heavyweight title tournament, then defeated Grayson Waller in his most recent match at the July 7 SmackDown at Madison Square Garden.

Roman Reigns vs. Sami Zayn rematch set for WWE Toronto house show

Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn are set to face off in Canada once again. This time, it will be at an untelevised house show.

The Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto announced today that Reigns will defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Zayn at WWE’s house show this Saturday (March 4). The show is part of WWE’s Road to WrestleMania live event tour.

It was originally advertised that Reigns would be teaming with Solo Sikoa against Zayn & Kevin Owens in the main event of the Toronto show, but Zayn and Owens haven’t officially reunited on WWE television yet.

Reigns retained his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Zayn at Elimination Chamber in Montreal earlier this month. Though Owens saved Zayn from a Bloodline beatdown after the match, Owens has rejected Zayn’s offer to work together to dismantle The Bloodline.

A Tag Team title match with Zayn & Owens challenging The Usos has been rumored for WrestleMania 39. In storyline, Jey Uso is currently conflicted between siding with Zayn or staying loyal to The Bloodline.

House show appearances by Reigns have become increasingly rare over the past year. Prior to this, his most recent house show match took place last September.

WWE postpones Toronto house show to March 2022

WWE’s return to Canada won’t be happening until 2022.

It was announced today that WWE’s house show that was scheduled to be held at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada this Wednesday has been postponed. The event would have been the first WWE show to take place in Canada since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The WWE live event scheduled for December 29, 2021 at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 27, 2022,” Coca-Cola Coliseum announced. “Tickets are currently on sale through Ticketmaster.ca and all originally purchased tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled date.”

WWE’s two house shows that were going to take place in Canada this month have now both been rescheduled. WWE’s house show that was going to be held at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, Canada this Thursday was postponed last week. It’s now set for Sunday, March 6, 2022.

The Toronto show was set to be held at 50 percent capacity prior to being postponed. Trish Stratus had been announced as the host of the house show.

Earlier this month, WWE’s four-show tour of Canada that was scheduled for January was moved to September-October 2022. The tour will include two house shows, a Raw episode, and a SmackDown episode.

Trish Stratus to host WWE Toronto house show

WWE’s Holiday Tour live event in Toronto will have a Hall of Fame guest host next month.

Trish Stratus has announced that she will be hosting WWE’s Wednesday, December 29 house show at the Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

In a post on her website, Stratus stated: “Excited to step through that curtain and feel the energy of the WWE Universe one more time. Let’s do this Toronto!”

The Toronto event will be a Raw brand house show, with Becky Lynch, Bianca Belair, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, Riddle, Finn Balor, AJ Styles, Omos and Damian Priest advertised. The SmackDown crew will have a house show in Baltimore that same night, with Charlotte Flair vs Sasha Banks, plus Drew McIntyre, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods vs. Roman Reigns, Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso advertised.

Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013. Her most recent WWE appearance came at SummerSlam in Toronto in August 2019 in a loss to Charlotte Flair.

Additionally, Stratus will be serving as a judge for the upcoming Canada’s Got Talent revival. She is also set to be inducted into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in Waterloo, Iowa in July 2022.

WWE Toronto live results: Jericho, Zayn & Balor vs. HHH, Owens & Joe

– Golden Truth, Sin Cara & Big Show defeated The Shining Stars, Bo Dallas & Jinder Mahal

This was pretty much a comedy match to open the show. The heels got the heat on Goldust until Big Show’s music played and he came down to the ring to join R-Truth and Sin Cara. Big Show got the tag, delivered a double chokeslam to Primo and Epico, and followed up with the KO punch to Bo Dallas for the win.

– WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville defeated Rich Swann to retain his title

Neville was the highlight of this match because of his heel antics of just playing with the crowd. It wasn’t a long match but Swann got some high spots, including a diving tope and then followed it up with a top rope hurricanrana to Neville for a decent reaction.

The finish came with Swann getting caught off-guard by Neville faking a knee injury and Neville capitalizing with the Rings of Saturn for the submission victory.

Byron Saxton then introduced Sportsnet 360’s and WWE Aftermath host Jackie Redmond as the special time keeper for the next match. She wore a Maple Leafs jersey and did her best to hype the crowd.

– Sasha Banks & Alicia Fox defeated Nia Jax & Dana Brooke

Banks received a huge reaction from the fans. This also wasn’t a very long match as Fox started off with Brooke. Jax dominated both Banks and Fox throughout the match. Fox finally made the hot tag to Banks, who did a great fire-up spot on both Jax and Brooke. Banks delivered the double knees in the corner, followed by the Banks Statement on Brooke for the win.

Charlotte came on the screen and explained that she was cheated out of the Raw Women’s Championship and her PPV undefeated streak and promised to beat Bayley and regain her title.

– Roman Reigns defeated Braun Strowman by DQ

Reigns was completely booed out of the building at the start. Strowman took control early on in the match by tossing Reigns around and delivering splashes in the corner. Reigns finally got out of the way as Strowman went shoulder-first into the ring post.

The crowd did pop when Reigns delivered a Samoan drop, though Strowman kicked out. Strowman came back and delivered a reverse chokeslam but Reigns kicked out. Strowman got frustrated and started to argue with the referee and tried to bring the steel steps into the ring.

The match went on, but the finish eventually came with Strowman attacking Reigns with the steel steps for the disqualification.

Reigns went for the Drive By after the match was over but was countered as Strowman tossed him into the ring post. Strowman again tried to attack Reigns with the steel steps back in the ring but was caught with the spear. Reigns then delivered another spear to Strowman for the exclamation mark.

– Raw Tag Team Champions Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson defeated The New Day, Cesaro & Sheamus, and Enzo Amore & Big Cass in a fatal four-way to retain their titles

New Day had a special entrance with a jumbo sized Booty-O cereal box and Big E brought out a mini freezer with New Day pops to the ring. Enzo cut a really short promo and it ended with Cass spelling out “S-A-W-F-T.”

This was another quick match. Anderson used the ropes and rolled up the tights to pin Enzo to retain.

Cesaro delivered a giant spin and swung Anderson 28 times for a huge reaction after the match. New Day, Enzo, Big Cass, and Cesaro all tried to make Sheamus dance for the crowd. Sheamus tried to bail but was stopped and ended up dancing for a couple of seconds.

– Raw Women’s Champion Bayley defeated Charlotte Flair to retain her title

Bayley received a good reaction, while everyone was “wooing” at Charlotte’s entrance. Charlotte got caught with the Bayley-to-Belly suplex and Bayley retained her title.

– United States Champion Chris Jericho, Finn Balor & Sami Zayn defeated Triple H, Kevin Owens & Samoa Joe

This was by far the hottest match of the night as Joe, Zayn, and Balor received good reactions while the crowd popped huge for Owens. But it was Chris Jericho and Triple H who received the loudest cheers.

The fans popped when Balor got tagged into the match and went face-to-face with Triple H. Triple H held up the “Too Sweet” sign but Balor responded with the DX crotch chop.

After attacking Triple H with a running dropkick, Balor held up the “Too Sweet” sign but Triple H responded with a crotch chop of his own. Balor delivered a running dropkick to Triple H in the corner and then went for the Coup De Grace but Triple H rolled out of the ring.

Balor tagged in Jericho for a big reaction. Zayn got the tag and went after Joe, who got tagged in by Triple H. The heels got the advantage as Owens mocked both the Balor and Jericho poses. Outside the ring, Triple H attacked Zayn behind the referee’s back. Zayn finally got the hot tag as Jericho fired up and attacked everyone.

Jericho applied the Walls of Jericho to Triple H for a big reaction but Joe broke it up. Zayn then delivered a Helluva kick to Joe in the corner. Triple H delivered the Pedigree to Zayn for a huge reaction, and Balor came back and delivered a sling blade to Triple H. Owens connected with a superkick to Balor and then Jericho finally delivered the Codebreaker to Owens for the win.

Jericho cut a promo after the match thanking the crowd for coming out for tonight’s show. Then Jericho said he doesn’t need Owens as his best friend because he’s got the WWE Toronto fans as his friends. He then spotted a “You Just Made The List” sign in the crowd. He hyped up the crowd and said “Toronto, You Just Made The List” for a big reaction as the show came to a close.
