New Tag Team Champions crowned on WWE SmackDown

Damian Priest & R-Truth are the new WWE Tag Team Champions.

The unlikely duo won the titles on Friday thanks to copious interference between the Wyatt Sicks and the MFTs, who continue to feud over Bray Wyatt’s lantern. The finish of the match had the MFTs brawl with the Wyatts backstage as Uncle Howdy went to attack Solo Sikoa. JC Mateo broke up the brawl but walked into R-Truth’s side kick and was pinned soon after with the AA.

Truth & Priest’s title victory is their first as a team. This would be Priest’s third reign with the title while this is the first time Truth has held the WWE Tag Team title.

The duo became number one contenders two weeks ago when Priest found out that Truth put them in a gauntlet match to determine the MFTs next challengers. Although Los Garza dominated that match, Priest and R-Truth came out last and emerged as the winners. When the two teams bickered on last week’s show, they faced off in a match that saw Priest & Truth pick up the victory.

New Tag Team title contenders to be determined on next WWE SmackDown

The next contenders for the WWE Tag Team titles will be determined on the next SmackDown.

This week’s show saw Solo Sikoa and the rest of the MFTs complain to Nick Aldis backstage about Uncle Howdy and the Wyatt Sicks, who interfered in their match. Aldis said all he saw were the MFTs attacking Howdy after his match, and was more interested in the WWE Tag Team title situation. He declared that on next week’s SmackDown new contenders would be crowned. Who would be involved was not made clear.

Howdy defeated Sikoa on Friday’s show. However when he went to retrieve Bray Wyatt’s lantern after the match, the MFTs attacked him from the crowd and took the lantern once again, keeping it within their grasp.

After their Women’s Tag Team title win on Friday, Lash Legend and Nia Jax were celebrating backstage. They announced that they would continue their celebration next week, but informed interviewer Cathy Kelley that she wasn’t invited.

MFTs win WWE Tag Team titles on SmackDown

New WWE Tag Team Champions have been crowned.

The MFTs (Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga) won the titles on Friday’s SmackDown, defeating The Wyatt Sicks’ Dexter Lumis and Joe Gacy. The finish of the match had Uncle Howdy at ringside attempting to take out Talla Tonga, who was in possession of Bray Wyatt’s lantern. Sikoa came in and took out Howdy with the Samoan spike as Tonga jumped Lumis from behind. He then connected with the cutthroat (running elbow) to pin Lumis for the titles.

The Wyatt Sicks had held the titles since the July 11 edition of SmackDown, where they defeated The Street Profits. By the end of the year, they had found themselves feuding with the likes of Solo Sikoa’s group. The MFTs have made the situation more personal in recent weeks by taking possession of the lantern that Wyatt once held.

On last week’s SmackDown, Howdy attempted to regain the lantern but Sikoa jumped him to prevent it from happening. But the distraction allowed Priest to give Sikoa the south of heaven, giving him the win to advance to the four-way number one contender’s match for the WWE title at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

WWE Tag Team title match set for next week’s SmackDown

A match for the WWE Tag Team titles is set for next week’s SmackDown in Montreal.

The Wyatt Sicks and The MFTs will meet once more for the WWE Tag Team titles. A video aired on Friday with Solo Sikoa saying if the Wyatts wanted their lantern back, they would have to agree to a WWE Tag Team title match. After Sikoa failed to defeat Damian Priest later in the show, Uncle Howdy attempted to take the lantern back but was attacked by Talla Tonga, keeping control of the lantern with the MFTs.

Meanwhile, a number one contender’s match will take place for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss will take on Giulia & Kiana James and Nia Jax & Lash Legend. Whoever wins will earn a future title match against current champions Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY.

Damian Priest will face Trick Williams one day before Saturday Night’s Main Event, where they are both in a number one contender’s match for the WWE Championship. The two traded words backstage following their victories on SmackDown, with Priest saying he’ll be whooping that Trick.

Johnny Gargano and Nathan Frazer will meet after Gargano jumped Frazer backstage on last week’s SmackDown. This week’s show had Frazer jumping Gargano as Axiom distracted him.

TLC Tag Team title match, mystery video reveal booked for next WWE SmackDown

A reveal and a TLC match are set for next week’s SmackDown.

DIY, the Motor City Machine Guns, and the Street Profits will meet in the first SmackDown following WrestleMania 41. On Friday, DIY blatantly interfered in the title match between the other two teams, causing a disqualification and walking out with the tag titles. Backstage, an irate Nick Aldis grabbed the titles and announced that the matter would be settled on next week’s show when the three teams meet in a  tables, ladders, and chairs match.

The situation around the WWE Tag Team titles have been fluid in recent months, with the three teams trading the championship between one another. Most recently, the Street Profits defeated DIY to win the titles on the March 14 edition of SmackDown.

Additionally, another mystery video aired during SmackDown showing smoke rising as images flashed on the screen. It ended with next Friday’s date being shown, 4.25.25. This could be seen as a teaser for the returning Aleister Black, who left AEW earlier this year.

The lineup for next week’s SmackDown:

  • TLC match for WWE Tag Team titles: Street Profits defend against DIY and Motor City Machine Guns
  • Mysterious video reveal

Two out of three falls Tag Team title match set for WWE Royal Rumble

A match for the WWE Tag Team titles has been set for the Royal Rumble.

As the two teams confronted one another on Friday, The Motor City Machine Guns told DIY that they talked to Nick Aldis and confirmed they would be facing one another at the Royal Rumble. But not only would it be for the WWE Tag Team titles, but it would also be a two out of three falls match.

Earlier in the night, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley defeated Pretty Deadly. Later on, they interfered in a match between one half of the Tag Team Champions Johnny Gargano and Apollo Crews, leading to Crews’ win.

Since losing the titles to DIY, Motor City Machine Guns have been picking up wins over the likes of A-Town Down Under and Los Garza.

DIY win WWE Tag Team titles on SmackDown

DIY are the new WWE Tag Team Champions.

Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano won the titles on Friday, defeating Motor City Machine Guns. The finish had Gargano & Ciampa, who had been arguing in recent weeks, have another blow-up. As Ciampa exited the ring, Gargano suddenly low blowed Chris Sabin. Alex Shelley entered the ring to argue with Gargano only to be met with a superkick. Revealing their spat to be a ruse, DIY then hit their finish on Sabin for the win, earning their second WWE Tag Team title win.

Recent weeks had seen Ciampa becoming completely obsessed with the Motor City Machine Guns and the WWE Tag Team titles, creating a source of tension between him and Gargano, who has a history with the Motor City Machine Guns and remained on friendly terms with them.

Sabin & Shelly were originally set to face The Street Profits on Friday. During SmackDown, however, Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins were seen laid out backstage. As MCMG talked to SmackDown GM Nick Aldis about the situation, Gargano proposed DIY take the Street Profits’ spot in the title match, which MCMG agreed.

Three matches announced for next week’s WWE SmackDown

Three matches have been announced for next week’s SmackDown.

LA Knight will also face Santos Escobar. After Knight got his US title match for SummerSlam against Logan Paul, Escobar confronted him backstage and said he wasn’t pinned in their Money in the Bank qualifying match at Madison Square Garden. Knight said he had some free time ahead of SummerSlam and would take care of him.

Bayley will team with Michin to take on Tiffany Stratton and Nia Jax. Bayley took out Nia Jax and destroyed Stratton’s Money in the Bank briefcase on Friday, causing Stratton to lose to Michin in a singles match.

Decision to unify WWE Raw, SmackDown Tag Team titles made at last minute

The decision to follow through with unifying the WWE Raw and SmackDown Tag Team titles was made at the last minute Friday.

Dave Meltzer reported the news on Sunday’s Wrestling Observer Radio.

Meltzer said there was “no plan” for what to do for the finish going into the show and that The Usos vs. Randy Orton & Riddle happened primarily to get the angle over at the end of the match which set up future singles matches between WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns against Orton and Riddle.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer reported that the discussed next three challengers for Reigns are Riddle for Money in the Bank, Orton for SummerSlam and Drew McIntyre for Clash at the Castle.

Meltzer said WWE was going back and forth when deciding what to do with Vince McMahon making the final call, paying off a story that was initially teased for the WrestleMania Backlash event.

Jimmy & Jey Uso (SmackDown tag champions) defeated Orton & Riddle (Raw tag champions) Friday to become the undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. Reigns interfered, preventing Riddle from hitting a super RKO on Jey from the top rope. Jey then hit a big splash to pin Riddle for the win. The Bloodline then attacked Orton & Riddle, laying them out.

Meltzer said he didn’t know if there are plans for a rematch.
