WWE Raw & SmackDown to be held in Mexico this fall

For the first time in over a decade, Raw & SmackDown are heading to Mexico.

It was announced during Saturday’s AAA Noche de los Grandes that WWE will be returning to Mexico this fall, including tapings for Raw and SmackDown. These shows will take place right as AAA will hold their biggest show of the year, Triplemania, that weekend. Tickets for the upcoming WWE events will go on sale this coming Friday.

The tour will include:

  • September 9: WWE Mexico Live Tour in Guadalajara
  • September 10: WWE Mexico Live Tour in Monterrey
  • September 11: WWE SmackDown in Mexico City
  • September 14: WWE Raw in Mexico City

First WWE shows to be taped in Mexico in 15 years

WWE last taped their television shows in Mexico back in 2011. Highlights include John Cena & Jim Ross defeating Alberto Del Rio & Michael Cole in a tag team match on Raw, where SmackDown featured a mask vs. mask match that saw Sin Cara Azul emerge victorious over Sin Cara Negro, who later wrestled unmasked as Hunico. Ironically, once the original Sin Cara (Mistico) left WWE, Hunico would later return under the Sin Cara mask until his release.

It was also announced during Noche de los Grandes that the first night of Triplemania will take place in Las Vegas on September 11 at the Luxor Hotel & Casino. Night two will take place on September 13 in Mexico City.

WWE’s return to Mexico revealed for next month

WWE appears to be heading back to Mexico next month.

According to users on social media, an advertisement was shown during a concert on Friday night at Arena Monterrey promoting WWE’s return to the venue on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Tickets are listed as going on sale Thursday, June 19, though WWE has yet to officially announce the event.

LuchaBlog wrote:

“At the concert tonight in Arena Monterrey, a list of upcoming events mentions a WWE “Supershow Mexico” on Sunday 07/27 in Arena Monterrey. This is probably meant to be a TripleMania Regia announcement.”

“WWE’s pattern is Saturday shows in Mexico City, Sunday shows in Monterrey, which would mean WWE may announce a date for Arena Ciudad de Mexico on July 26th in the next few days.”

WWE Supershow in Monterrey

WWE frequently uses “Supershow” branding for its non-televised house shows. Two Supershows are scheduled for the week before, on July 19 in Corpus Christi, Texas, and July 20 in Edinburgh, Texas.

This would be WWE’s first trip to Mexico since July 2024, when the company held events in Mexico City and Monterrey. Those shows featured Cody Rhodes defending the WWE Championship against Santos Escobar in the main event. Stephanie Vaquer also made her WWE debut that weekend.

AAA is also running Arena Monterrey this weekend. Triplemania Regia takes place on Sunday with the following lineup:

AAA Triplemania Regia (Sunday, June 15) —

  • Steel cage match: AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo defends against Alberto El Patron
  • TNA X-Division Champion Moose defends against Joe Hendry, El Mesias, and Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. in a four-way match
  • AAA Tag Team Champions Forastero & Sanson defend against Angel & Berto, Psycho Clown & Pagano, and Nic & Ryan Nemeth in a four-way match
  • La Parka, Laredo Kid & Octagon Jr. vs. Abismo Negro Jr., Taurus & Histeria
  • AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Lady Flammer defends against Dalys and Lady Shani in a three-way match
  • Mr. Iguana, El Fiscal & Nino Hamburguesa vs. SB Kento, Takuma & Nobu San

Stephanie Vaquer to appear at WWE house shows in Mexico

Stephanie Vaquer is already set to make her first WWE appearances.

Just days after her signing was confirmed, WWE has announced that Vaquer will be appearing live at their house shows in Mexico this weekend. The company will be in Mexico City this Saturday (July 13) and Monterrey on Sunday (July 14) for live events.

Vaquer was originally supposed to be in action at NJPW & CMLL’s Fantasticamania USA show on Saturday. But CMLL & NJPW issued a statement earlier this week announcing that Vaquer had departed both promotions and would no longer be appearing in San Jose, California for Fantasticamania.

With her departure, Vaquer was stripped of both the CMLL World Women’s Championship and World Women’s Tag Team Championship.

WWE announced Vaquer’s signing on Wednesday with Shawn Michaels sending out a tweet welcoming her to NXT.

Vaquer was born in Chile and started her career in the country before becoming a star in Mexico. She drew acclaim from audiences in the United States with standout performances against Mercedes Mone for NJPW in 2023 and at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door last month.

Cody Rhodes vs. Santos Escobar for the Undisputed WWE Championship is headlining the weekend house shows in Mexico.

Rey Mysterio hoping Mexico hosts WWE PLE within next three years

The legendary Rey Mysterio is hoping that he’ll get to wrestle at a WWE premium live event in Mexico one day.

As part of a new strategy for the company, WWE is holding an increasing amount of PLEs in international markets. Australia and France have already had events this year, and WWE has upcoming stops in Scotland, Canada, and Germany. That’s in addition to the two WWE PLEs that take place from Saudi Arabia every year.

In an interview with Bleacher Report, Mysterio was asked about the possibility of Mexico hosting its first-ever PLE. Mysterio said he’s hoping that it happens within the next three years.

“I’m hoping that it happens within the next three years. I think my people deserve something as good as a PLE,” Mysterio said. “I’m truly hoping. We have a huge stadium over there, Estadio Azteca, which I believe is being remodeled and should be done sometime next year. I think the fans would go crazy. Crazy. Mexico has always been an incredible crowd for wrestling, and what better than to pay it off with WWE coming over there and giving them something as special as a PLE?”

WWE has a pair of house shows taking place in Mexico this July. Mysterio is advertised for the events.

The 49-year-old Mysterio and his LWO faction are members of the Raw roster in WWE. After defeating Carlito earlier this week, Mysterio was beaten down by Damian Priest, setting up a Mysterio vs. Priest match for Raw this Monday (June 3).

WWE announces two live events in Mexico for July

WWE is returning to Mexico this summer.

On Monday, WWE announced they are headed back to Mexico City’s Arena CDMX on Saturday, July 13. The promotion will then present a show the following night on Sunday, July 14 at the Arena Monterrey.

WWE is advertising the shows as “the only WWE Live events taking place in Mexico in 2024.”

It’s the first time WWE will be back in the country since it drew capacity crowds for two shows last year.

WWE’s live event in Mexico City last summer on July 22 drew a capacity crowd of over 15,000. The event was headlined by Roman Reigns defending the WWE Universal Championship against Rey Mysterio. Asuka vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Shotzi in a triple threat match, Cody Rhodes vs. Damian Priest, and Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler also took place on the show.

WWE’s trip to Monterrey last year was also quite successful, drawing a capacity crowd of around 9500 for a show headlined by Seth Rollins defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Dominik Mysterio. The LWO vs. Imperium, Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Natalya, and Matt Riddle vs. The Miz also took place on the show.

WWE touts success of Mexico house shows

This past weekend, WWE was in Mexico for a pair of house shows.

The company issued a press release on Monday touting the success of those shows. WWE stated that they were the promotion’s best attended and highest grossing events in Mexico in 12 years. The last time WWE held televised events in Mexico was October 2011.

The house shows took place in Mexico City on Saturday and Monterrey on Sunday.

WWE wrote:

WWE today announced that back-to-back WWE SuperShow events held at the Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City on Saturday, July 22, and the Arena Monterrey in Monterrey on Sunday, July 23, broke records for WWE’s highest attendance and highest grossing live events in Mexico for 12 years.

The event in Mexico City also broke venue records, becoming the highest attendance and highest grossing event ever held at the Arena Ciudad de México, in addition to setting a record for highest-ever WWE merchandise sales in Mexico City.

More than 25,000 spectators across both nights witnessed Superstars including Roman Reigns, Rey Mysterio, Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins, Dominik Mysterio, Charlotte Flair and Santos Escobar.

Saturday’s event in Mexico City was headlined by Roman Reigns retaining his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Rey Mysterio. Reigns wasn’t on the Monterrey show. In that night’s main event, Seth Rollins defeated Dominik Mysterio to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

Sunday Update

Bryan and I will be back tonight for Wrestling Observer Radio covering all the news from the weekend. We also have our week in review show with Garrett up on the site right now. There was a lot of history on that show on the formation and growth of the NWA and the AWA and WWWF and the making of Harley Race as an international superstar with the anniversary of his title win over Jack Brisco.

WWE from Mexico City last night:

  • Rhea Ripley retained the world title in a three-way over Natalya and Becky Lynch by pinning Natalya with the Riptide
  • Cody Rhodes b Damian Priest with Cross Rhodes
  • Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde & Matt Riddle b Imperium
  • There was a Miz TV segment with Rousey. Both spoke in Spanish. Rousey used a USA gi to make her the heel.
  • Shayna Baszler b Ronda Rosuey via DQ when Rousey used a chair and they did a pull-apart brawl after the match. Rousey was a total heel in this match
  • Seth Rollins b Dominik Mysterio with the curb stomp even with Priest and Ripley interfering
  • Austin Theory b Santos Escboar to keep the U.S. title
  • Asuka won a three-way over Charlotte Flair and Shotzi to keep the WWE Womens’ title when Shotzi was pinned
  • Roman Reigns b Rey Mysterio. Dominik attacked Rey after the match and tried to do the three amigos when Rey escaped and hit Dom with the 619 to end the show. Paul Heyman was there with Reigns. (thanks to Shannon Walsh)

Regarding the 1.182,000 number for Friday’s Smackdown on FS 1 on the fast nationals, it should that fast nationals count Friday from 8-10 p.m. Pacific time on the West Coast and for sports that means in this case the fast national would have the replay number and not the live number. So that will affect the final number significantly.

They were teasing Katsuyori Shibata vs. Josh Woods at some point for the ROH Pure title at the ROH tapings before Collision. The show was five hours.

Kota Ibushi teased that he was originally booked on the AEW Wembley Stadium show saying he might have a match and he needs a quick recovery.

Saya Kamitani suffered a dislocated elbow doing a dive off the lighting tower like Will Ospreay did at WrestleKingdom a few years back. People are raving about the show although the Kamitani vs. Tam Nakano main event was cut short due to the injury. Kamitani is believed to be out for the rest of the tournament which completely changes so much of the plans for the tournament. The matches to go out of your way to see I was told were Mirai vs. Momo Watanabe, Suzu Suzki vs Syuri, Mayu Iwatani vs. Hazuki and Giulia vs. Saori Annou. There was also a big surprise as Megan Bayne showed up and she’s being brought in to be a star because she beat up Nakano and challenged her for a matc for the World of Stardom title. Utami Hayashishita also challenged Mayu Iwatani for the IWGP women’s title. These challenges took place after the Kamitani injury and Nakano and Hayashishita were both very upset doing the angle due to the legit injury of Kamitani. The storyline is that Hayashishita met Bayne in the U.S. and recruited her to come over. One person said this was the best tournament show since the 2020 G-1 tournament anywhere in the world. (thanks to Thomas Grimes, Tim Hunter, David Hayter and Ingo Ga)

The first night results saw: Maika b Hanan, Mariah May b AZM, Natsuko Tora b Ami Sohrei, Natsupoi b Starlight Kid, Utami Hayashishita b Mina Shirakawa, Momo Watanabe b Mirai, Syuri b Suzu Suzuki, Mayu Iwatani b Hazuki, Gioulia d Saori Anu 15:00, Tam Nakano b Saya Kamitani – injury stoppage

At the DDT Peter Pan show, Chris Brookes beat Yuji Hino to win the KO-D title, plus El Desperado baet Daisuke Sasaki, Konosuke Takeshita beat Yui Ueno and Matt Cardona won the Universal title over Tetsuya Endo. Cardona, Takeshita, and Taka Michinoku were the main outside stars.

We’re looking for reports on tonight’s WWE show in Monterrey, Mexico and the DDT Peter Pan show to [email protected]

We’re also doing a poll this weekend for the ROH Death Before Dishonor show, thumbs up, down or middle, best and worst match to [email protected]

In the most searched list for Google this week, the only thing from wrestling, boxing or MMA to make the list was Tom Aspinall, who beat Marcin Tybura in the UFC main event at the O2 Arena in London.

The G-1 Climax tournament continues on Tuesday with three straight days in Tokyo, two at Korakuen Hall and Thursday at the Ota Ward Gym in Tokyo. Sanada vs. Kaito Kiyomiya and Kazuchika Okada vs. Yoshi-Hashi are the top matches Tuesday. Eddie Kingston vs. Tomohiro Ishii, Jeff Cobb vs. Zack Sabre Jr. and Tama Tonga vs. David Finlay are the top bouts for Wednesday and Thursday may be the biggest match of the tournament with Okada vs. Will Ospreay

Tommaso Ciampa vs. Bronson Reed and a contract signing for Seth Rollins and Finn Balor have been added to Monday’s Raw in Tampa.

Roman Reigns set for WWE Mexico City house show

WWE has announced that Reigns will be appearing at its house show in Mexico City on Saturday, July 22. The event is taking place at Arena CDMX.

House show appearances have become rare for Reigns since he signed a new WWE deal in 2022. He was originally advertised for WWE’s live event in Fayetteville, North Carolina on May 20, but WWE issued a statement announcing that Reigns won’t be appearing at that show. WWE said that incorrect promotional material was released advertising Reigns for Fayetteville.

WWE also has a house show taking place in Monterrey, Mexico on Sunday, July 23. Reigns isn’t advertised for that show.

At Night of Champions later this month, Reigns will challenge for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team titles. Reigns is teaming with Solo Sikoa against Zayn & Owens at the pay-per-view.
