Wrestling Weekly: Raw vs. SD, CWC, Knoxville memories

Les Thatcher and Victor Sosa open with a bit on the first week of the latest WWE brand split, where it sure looked like there was a definitive “A” show and “B” show right out of the gate.

We’ll revisit the Dick Steinborn match Les referenced last week (12:28), and say a bit more about why he and other trainers recommend watching this particular match. We circle back around to SmackDown Live and try to figure out where Shelton Benjamin and Rhyno fit in (16:10).

Vic watched this week’s WWE CWC (28:47), and we’ll discuss seeing Zack Sabre Jr. for the first time. And we get into the comments Bryan mentioned he got from people in the business about ZSJ who also were introduced to him last night, as well as the other matches on the show.

And we’ll close the show expanding on a question about different buildings and territories we got a few weeks ago, talking about the long run Les had in the Knoxville territory (44:53) and why it was such a special place for him.

Thanks for listening and have a great weekend~!

Wrestling Weekly: WWE CWC, Dory & Terry, Booking Roman

Les and Vic start the show with a bit on the WWE Draft, as Les is unfamiliar with one particular call-up from NXT. We’ll transition into this week’s Cruiserweight Classic (11:13) episode on the WWE Network and why Akira Tozawa vs. Kenneth Johnson may not have been the best match on the show, but was the best thing on the show by far in Vic’s eyes.

From there, a few minutes on Dick Steinborn, (27:47) one of the better wrestlers from back in the day you may not have heard of, and where you can find some of his work, as well as a sitdown Les had years ago with Terry and Dory Funk Jr. (34:05) that Les hopes to make available to everyone in the near future.

After that, we open the mailbag to answer your questions on guys no showing events they were booked on back in the day (38:25), how to book Roman Reigns moving forward as he returns from suspension (43:30), training women and whether or not Les dealt with any issues with WWE about their look (53:52), and the latest concussion based lawsuit as well as Jonathan Coachman’s defense of Vince McMahon the other day (65:31).

Thanks for listening and have a great weekend~!

Wrestling Weekly: CWC debuts; Final Deletion vs. Wyatt Compound

Les Thatcher is back from his weekend training seminar and is ready to talk the WWE Cruiserweight Classic and a lot more!

We’ll start with a quick rundown of how the camp went and a young man who had a gimmick that got the attention of one Les Thatcher, but probably not for the reasons the young man was hoping for.

We’ll segue into two great opportunities at greater exposure WWE got this week: John Cena hosting the ESPYs (14:12) and Brock Lesnar’s win over Mark Hunt. Did WWE get the most out of those events this past week and can they in the future?

After that, we’ll spend time on the debut of the CWC (21:33) both as a TV presentation and the wrestling matches themselves, as well as some of the wrestlers.

We’ll close the show with the mailbag (41:47), Les and Vic at the movies (or not), Final Deletion vs. the Wyatt Compound (47:00), if Les ever worked with an agent on his matches (57:04), and some history on classic wrestling venues (61:43).

Thanks for listening and have a great weekend~!

FREE Wrestling Weekly: BJ Whitmer interview, Dean Ambrose, WWE CWC talk

Les Thatcher and Vic Sosa return to talk Dean Ambrose, the Cruiserweight Classic & ROH’s Best in the World PPV w/special guest BJ Whitmer!

We’ll start with Ohio becoming the state of champions between LeBron & and Cavs along with Dean Ambrose.  Les shares some of his history with Dean (5:45), which dates back to the beginning of Dean’s career.

We talk about the WWE CWC Opening Ceremonies (10:32) and segue into talking about some guys Les has worked with who are in the tournament.  Note, there are tournament spoilers from the 13:46 mark to the 19:12 mark, so if you don’t want to know who won their 1st round matches, you’ve been warned!

After that, there’s a run-in from ROH’s BJ Whitmer (23:52) at Charlotte Douglas International Airport to talk about his Fight Without Honor with Steve Corino taking place tonight at ROH’s Best in the World PPV.  We’ll also discuss Roderick Strong finishing up with ROH (41:12), memories of the soon to be torn down Cincinnati Gardens (46:38) and Roman Reigns suspension (54:29); specifically, whether or not he should return in the exact same spot on the card from which he left.
