NXT faction reunites on WWE Raw

Monday night’s episode of Raw featured the reunion of a former NXT faction.

The Way (Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, Indi Hartwell, and Dexter Lumis) appeared together in a backstage segment on last night’s show. In the segment, The Way refused to sign Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville’s petition for a Women’s Tag Team title shot against Raquel Rodriguez & Liv Morgan.

There was also a tease during the segment that someone else could soon be returning. Gargano told The Way that “he’s coming back soon.” Gargano said he thought it would be great, but LeRae didn’t agree.

Though WWE hasn’t revealed who Gargano was talking about, it may have been his former NXT tag team partner Tommaso Ciampa. Ciampa has been out of action since last September. He underwent hip surgery in October of last year.

Gargano, LeRae, Hartwell, and Lumis were all selected by Raw in the WWE Draft. Hartwell was called up from NXT in the draft. She was NXT Women’s Champion when she was drafted, but Hartwell relinquished the title last week.

United States Champion Austin Theory was formerly a member of The Way in NXT. Theory is currently a heel on the SmackDown brand.

Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell win NXT Women’s Tag Team titles

New NXT Women’s Tag Team champions were crowned in the main event of tonight’s NXT.

The Way (Indi Hartwell and Candice LeRae) captured the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles, defeating Ember Moon and Shotzi Blackheart to win the titles for the first time. It was under street fight rules with tons of weapons used, including Blackheart jumping off a ledge into a table. However, LeRae picked up the win for her team, pinning Blackheart after a foot stomp into a steel chair.

This marks the end of Moon and Blackheart’s run with the titles. They held the titles for 55 days, defeating inaugural champions Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez on the March 10 edition of NXT.

Moon and Blackheart challenged The Way after a match between them and the team of Aliyah and Jessi Kamea ended before it could even begin, with The Way attacked Moon and Blackheart before the match began, leading to tonight’s street fight.

The other members of The Way, Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory, left the arena before the main event after attacking Karrion Kross earlier in the show.

The Way ‘headed to therapy’ on WWE NXT

The Way’s storyline with Dexter Lumis will continue on tonight’s episode of NXT.

WWE has announced that The Way (NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano, Candice LeRae, Indi Hartwell & Austin Theory) are “headed to therapy” on tonight’s show. Last week, Gargano said he was sending Theory to therapy for the Stockholm syndrome Theory was showing after being abducted by Lumis.

Gargano retained his North American Championship against Kushida at TakeOver: Vengeance Day last month, but Theory was abducted by Lumis as The Way made their entrance for the match. Theory returned to NXT that Wednesday but thought he had been on vacation for the past three days.

Last week, Lumis defeated Gargano in a non-title match after Theory refused to hit Lumis with a steel chair.

WWE.com wrote about The Way’s therapy session:

Fed up with Austin Theory’s empathy for Dexter Lumis, Johnny Gargano has pledged for The Way to attend therapy tonight on NXT.

Lumis has tormented The Way for weeks now, most recently with a pivotal victory over the NXT North American Champion last week. But perhaps even more distressing for Gargano than the loss was Theory refusing to lend a hand to help him win.

Theory, who was abducted by Lumis last month at NXT TakeOver: Vengeance, said NXT’s Tortured Artist was simply ‘misunderstood,’ bewildering Gargano and Candice LeRae. And to even greater horror from The Garganos, Indi Hartwell admitted to finding Lumis attractive.

Can The Way get back on the same page in therapy? And will Lumis be watching?

Tonight’s NXT will feature Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler defending their titles against Dakota Kai & Raquel Gonzalez. NXT Tag Team Champions Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch will also be in action on the show as they face Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher in a non-title match.
