Titus O’Neil says he doesn’t have ‘any bad words’ against Vince McMahon

Titus O’Neil has nothing bad to say about Vince McMahon.

Us Weekly spoke to O’Neil, who talked about the new Netflix docuseries ‘Mr. McMahon’ and the allegations McMahon is currently facing, including a lawsuit from former employee Janel Grant accusing him of sexual assault and trafficking. O’Neil said that despite the allegations, McMahon’s legacy in professional wrestling can’t be ignored.

“At the end of the day, what he built cannot be erased,” O’Neil, said. “It’s sad that the situation came to what it came to, but I don’t have any bad words for Vince. It’s very interesting to hear different perspectives on things, but at the end of the day, I’ll forever be grateful for what Vince McMahon built, the platform that he built for so many people. He’s human, just like anyone else.”

O’Neil also said that while he can’t condone what is being alleged, he says that McMahon and WWE have helped change his life for the better.

“Do I condone some of the things that I’ve read? No. But I don’t know all the insides and outs of what’s going on and what’s not going on. All I know is that my life was changed because I had an opportunity to become a WWE superstar. So many people’s lives were changed because they had an opportunity to work for that company.

“Have we had our differences of opinion on certain things? Absolutely,” he added. “But at the end of the day, he essentially helped me change my life. My kids are in college because of the opportunity that I have with WWE. They went to private school. All three of my children are in college on a scholarship doing well.”

Grant’s lawsuit against McMahon is on pause as the Justice Department continues its investigation into McMahon. He spoke out against the docuseries ahead of its release last week, saying it confuses him with his Mr. McMahon television persona.

Netflix releases official trailer for ‘Mr. McMahon’ docuseries

Ahead of its September 25 premiere, Netflix has released the official trailer for its “Mr. McMahon” docuseries.

Interviews with Vince McMahon himself, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, John Cena, Bruce Prichard, Eric Bischoff, Jimmy Hart, Bret Hart, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, and The Ringer’s David Shoemaker are included in the trailer.

“People have wondered who I really am. You know, the portrayal of me is I’m a bad guy, but no one really knows me,” McMahon says as the trailer opens.

WWE’s rise, the 1994 steroid trial, Chris Benoit’s double murder-suicide, and Janel Grant’s sexual abuse allegations against McMahon are among the topics that will be covered. Grant was not interviewed for the series, though producers did reach out to her.

The docuseries is produced by sports media personality Bill Simmons and “Tiger King” executive producer Chris Smith. It features six one-hour episodes that will all be available to watch on September 25 when the series debuts.

Netflix has been developing this docuseries since 2020, with the project evolving along the way given the allegations made against McMahon. He resigned from WWE this January after Grant’s lawsuit was filed. The interviews with McMahon were conducted prior to his resignation.

The premiere of the documentary comes just a few months before WWE Raw moves to Netflix in January 2025. WWE does not have a production credit on the “Mr. McMahon” series.

WWE & Netflix producing multi-part Vince McMahon documentary

A Vince McMahon docuseries is in the works at Netflix.

It was announced on today’s WWE third quarter earnings call that WWE and Netflix have reached a “groundbreaking deal” to produce a multi-part documentary on the life of Vince McMahon. It was said that this will be one of the highest budgeted documentaries in Netflix history.

Further details on when the documentary will be premiering weren’t revealed.

The Ringer’s Bill Simmons will be an executive producer on the documentary. Chris Smith, who directed Netflix’s Fyre Festival documentary, will direct the McMahon documentary. Smith and WWE Studios will also be producers.

Simmons is a lifelong professional wrestling fan who was key in getting HBO’s Andre the Giant documentary made. HBO Sports partnered with WWE for that documentary and Simmons was a producer on the project.

The announcement of the McMahon documentary was made by Nick Khan on today’s earnings call. Khan, who was formerly co-head of television at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), was named president and chief revenue officer of WWE this August.
