Ruby Soho advances in AEW TBS Championship tournament

With her win over Kris Statlander on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, Ruby Soho advanced to the semifinals of the TBS title tournament.

The two had a competitive, back and forth match. The finish had Soho go for what was formerly called the Riott Kick (now called the No Future), but Statlander blocked it and went for the Big Bang Theory. Soho then countered with a victory roll for the win. 

With the win, Soho will now face Nyla Rose in the semifinals. Rose attacked Soho after the match, grabbing Soho and throwing her down to the floor. Statlander, who was distracted by Vickie Guerrero on stage, ran back to the ring as Rose bailed.

The other semifinal match of the tournament will have Thunder Rosa face Jade Cargill. In a segment on tonight’s Dynamite, Rosa confronted Cargill and told her that she would be doing commentary for Cargill’s match set for this Friday’s Rampage, as Cargill is set to take on one of Rosa’s students. Cargill didn’t seem impressed and walked away.

Jade Cargill advances in TBS Championship tournament

Jade Cargill has advanced in the TBS Women’s title tournament.

Cargill defeated Red Velvet on Rampage to advance to the semifinals. Velvet, towards the end of the match, managed to get some near falls, but Cargill was able to get the win after countering Red’s final slice, hitting the chickenwing clamp slam.

As a result, Cargill will face the winner of the Jamie Hayter vs. Thunder Rosa tournament match that will take place on Dynamite this Wednesday. Nyla Rose, who defeated Hikaru Shida this past Wednesday on Dynamite to advance to the semifinals, will face the winner of the Ruby Soho vs. Kris Statlander match.

The winner of the tournament will be crowned the first ever TBS Women’s championship, a secondary title in the women’s division. Dynamite will move to TBS starting on January 5, with Rampage remaining on TNT.

Cargill and Red Velvet’s feud dates back to Cargill’s debut match, when she and Shaquille O’Neal defeated Cody Rhodes and Red Velvet in a tag match. On last week’s Dynamite, Velvet and Cargill got in a confrontation, leading to cake being thrown into Cargill’s manager Mark Sterling’s face.

Nyla Rose advances in TBS Championship tournament

Nyla Rose has advanced in the TBS Women’s Championship tournament.

Rose submitted Hikaru Shida with a stretch muffler after interference from Serena Deeb, who attacked Shida’s leg. Shida continued to be competitive against Rose after the attack, but could not withstand the stretch muffler.

Deeb and Shida have been feuding ever since Deeb attacked Shida during a match with Shida’s 50th win trophy to prevent Shida from getting her 50th win that night. Shida then defeated Deeb in a rematch to advance past the first round of the TBS Championship tournament. Ever since, Deeb has appeared in the crowd for Shida’s matches.

With the win, Rose is the first to advance to the semifinals of the tournament. She will face the winner of the match between Kris Statlander and Ruby Soho. The matches to determine the other semifinal slot are Thunder Rosa vs. Jamie Hayter, which takes place on next week’s Dynamite, and Jade Cargill vs. Red Velvet, which takes place on Rampage this Friday.
