Bryan Danielson says he was going to ‘f***ing deck’ Miz in WWE Talking Smack segment

Bryan Danielson says the original plan for a Talking Smack segment in 2016 involved him striking the Miz.

The August 23, 2016 edition of the show featured an altercation between the two. Danielson criticized Miz for wrestling a “soft style” while Miz responded by telling Bryan he should quit WWE and work in “bingo halls.” The segment ended with Danielson walking off the set.

During a live episode of The Sessions with Renee Paquette at Starccast V, Danielson revealed new details regarding the episode of Talking Smack.

“Part of me doesn’t want to let the cat out of the bag but part of me loves the story,” Danielson said.

“Miz was very frustrated. He was Intercontinental Champion and wasn’t being on TV much. I was very frustrated that they weren’t clearing me to wrestle despite numerous doctors having cleared me to wrestle. I understand why but that’s a long story, anyway.”

“We came up with this thing and the original plan that Mike and I had come up with was I was going to f***ing deck him.”

“We wanted to get under each other’s skin so much that it was plausible that I would legit be angry enough to punch him, and so that was the intent. Then I was going to punch him, and the idea was either they’re going to fire me or it’s going to make people want to see the match so much that they’re going to have to clear me to wrestle.”

“But then Mike did such a great job, intuitively, I felt it was better to walk off. Because it was also like, this is so good, leave him with his heat.”

“Mike and I don’t like each other, legitimately,” Danielson continued.

“Mike is also somebody that I respect a lot for working very, very hard.”

WWE Talking Smack rebranded as The SmackDown LowDown

WWE Talking Smack is now known as The SmackDown LowDown.

The first show under the new name was released on the WWE Network Saturday, June 18. Scott Stanford announced the rebranding at the beginning of the episode. He will continue to host along with Matt Camp. The format of the show remains unchanged.

WWE filed to trademark “The SmackDown LowDown” on June 13, 2022.

This week’s episode opened with a discussion regarding the recently announced Last Man Standing match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. Jerry “The King” Lawler joined Stanford and Camp as well and offered his thoughts on Friday’s edition of SmackDown.

The first episode of WWE Talking Smack aired on August 2, 2016. It was originally hosted by Bryan Danielson and Renee Paquette. The Miz, JBL, Shane McMahon, Peter Rosenburg, Booker T, Jerry Lawler, and Sam Roberts have all served as co-hosts in the past.

Talking Smack no longer airing after Friday’s WWE SmackDown on FS1

Talking Smack will no longer be airing after this Friday’s episode of SmackDown on FS1.

WWE has announced that, immediately after Friday’s SmackDown, the show will replay twice on FS1. The replays will start at 10 p.m. and midnight Eastern time.

Cable listings originally indicated that a one-hour episode of Talking Smack would be airing after Friday’s SmackDown, with SmackDown then replaying at 11 p.m. Eastern. Talking Smack will instead premiere on Peacock/WWE Network on Saturday morning as it usually does.

The Talking Smack episode would have gone head-to-head with AEW Rampage. The first hour of the SmackDown replay will now go against Rampage.

Friday’s SmackDown is airing on FS1 due to game three of the World Series between the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves being on Fox. SmackDown also shifted to FS1 two weeks ago due to a scheduling conflict with the MLB playoffs. That SmackDown episode was a supersized edition of the show that was two-and-a-half hours long.

This Friday’s SmackDown is taking place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. There have yet to be any matches announced for the show. WWE is teasing that a new challenger may stand up to Universal Champion Roman Reigns following the storyline indefinite suspension that Brock Lesnar was given last week.

Talking Smack airing on FS1 after WWE SmackDown next week

Talking Smack will be airing at 10 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, October 29 on FS1 according to multiple cable providers listings.

SmackDown will also air on FS1 that night, as Fox will air game three of the MLB World Series. A SmackDown replay will air at 11 p.m. Eastern time, meaning a five-hour block of WWE programming on the network.

The one-hour Talking Smack will go head-to-head with AEW Rampage on TNT.

The precedent for this move was set last year, as WWE also aired an hour of Talking Smack following an FS1 SmackDown on the same night Fox aired game three of the World Series.

Talking Smack usually drops on Saturday mornings on Peacock and the WWE NEtwork.

SmackDown also aired on FS1 this past Friday due to the MLB playoffs airing on Fox. WWE ran an extra thirty minutes of the show commercial-free from 10 to 10:30 p.m., anchored by a Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks match, plus a Crown Jewel Universal Championship match contract signing featuring Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.

Kevin Owens to confront Roman Reigns on WWE SmackDown

Kevin Owens will deliver a message to Roman Reigns on next week’s SmackDown.

Owens confronted Paul Heyman on this week’s episode of Talking Smack. Heyman told Owens that he had enraged Reigns, but also lauded Owens for outsmarting him. Owens dismissed Heyman’s praise and told him that he would deliver a message to Reigns, face to face, on next week’s SmackDown.

This comes following the events of this week’s SmackDown. Reigns and Adam Pearce had a contract signing for what was supposed to be a last man standing match between the two at the Royal Rumble on January 31. Both men signed the contract. As Pearce walked up the ramp, he started to limp. He said that a knee injury was bothering him, and as a result he had the right to find a suitable replacement. That ended up being Kevin Owens, who signed the contract, angering Reigns.

Also announced for next week’s SmackDown is a Intercontinental title match between champion Big E and challenger Apollo Crews. Additionally, Bayley and Bianca Belair will compete in an obstacle course challenge.

WWE notes: Talking Smack, 205 Live matches

– With SmackDown making a one-week shift to FS1 tonight, there will be a special edition of Talking Smack airing immediately after the show.

A one-hour edition of Talking Smack will air on FS1 after SmackDown at 10 p.m. Eastern time tonight. Fox Sports has announced that Booker T will join Kayla Braxton and Paul Heyman to host tonight’s Talking Smack.

It’s also been announced that tonight’s Talking Smack will feature Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer interviewing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Fox Sports’ Charlotte Wilder interviewing Sasha Banks. The Rock appeared on Glazer’s One Glass With Glazer on Instagram Live three weeks ago and Fox Sports uploaded an interview with Wilder and Banks earlier this month.

Talking Smack made its return this August and usually premieres on the WWE Network on Saturday mornings. A special edition of Talking Smack also aired on FS1 this October when SmackDown made a one-week move to FS1 due to a World Series game airing on Fox.

SmackDown is airing on FS1 tonight due to college football’s Pac-12 Championship Game being on Fox. After Talking Smack, a replay of tonight’s SmackDown will air on FS1 at 11 p.m. Eastern.

– 205 Live is airing on the WWE Network at 10 p.m. Eastern tonight. WWE has announced two matches for the show: Jake Atlas vs. Tony Nese and Ever-Rise (Chase Parker & Matt Martel) vs. The Bollywood Boyz (Sunil & Samir Singh).

Atlas defeated Nese on NXT two weeks ago. Ever-Rise vs. The Bollywood Boyz is being promoted as the rubber match between the teams due to them each having one victory over the other in recent weeks.

Talking Smack airing on FS1 after WWE SmackDown this week

A change has been announced for tonight’s SmackDown post-show on FS1.

A one-hour edition of Talking Smack will air on FS1 at 10 p.m. Eastern time after SmackDown tonight. It originally had been announced that WWE Backstage would be making a one-night return as tonight’s SmackDown post-show.

The special edition of Talking Smack ties in with SmackDown airing on FS1 tonight due to game three of the World Series being on Fox. A replay of tonight’s SmackDown will also air on FS1 at 11 p.m. Eastern.

FS1 suspended weekly production of WWE Backstage this June, though it was noted at the time that the show could return with occasional episodes surrounding major events.

Talking Smack returned this August with Kayla Braxton as its lead host. The show usually premieres on the WWE Network on Saturday mornings.

Tonight’s SmackDown is the go-home show for Hell in a Cell. Roman Reigns will reveal the consequences for his Universal Championship Hell in a Cell I Quit match against Jey Uso ahead of Sunday’s pay-per-view. WWE will also finish building to Bayley and Sasha Banks’ Hell in a Cell match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, and there will be a “Law & Otis” segment where Otis defends himself in court as he attempts to stop The Miz from taking his Money in the Bank contract.

WWE Talking Smack returning Saturday with new co-hosts

This story was updated at 4:15 PM Eastern.

The rumor of Talking Smack returning is now a reality.

WWE officially announced the news Friday after Pro Wrestling Sheet first reported that the SmackDown post-show was returning this week, adding that Kayla Braxton and Xavier Woods are the co-hosts.

The show will debut on Saturday mornings on both the free and paid tiers of the WWE Network.

After the show’s cancellation three years ago, its rumored revival was reported earlier this week to pair with Raw Talk, the Raw post-show that airs on Mondays.

The relaunch comes as WWE embarks on a two-month residency at Orlando’s Amway Center in concert with the launch of ThunderDome on Friday’s live SmackDown, a large scale, in-arena virtual fan experience designed to bring some life to WWE broadcasts in the absence of having fans in the building. WWE gave a sneak peak of the massive structure Friday.

WWE reportedly interested in relaunching Talking Smack

According to PWInsider, WWE may be relaunching Talking Smack, its SmackDown post-show.

The report said they have been considering bringing the show back since January but now may revive it by the end of the month on the WWE Network. This summer, they created Raw Talk, a post-show that debuted in concert with the launch of the Network’s free tier.

The original version of Talking Smack was hosted by Renee Young and gave WWE talents the chance to expand their characters and angles with interviews that got social media buzz as they were unlike what fans would see on WWE TV. It was canceled in July 2017 as Vince McMahon reportedly didn’t think it served the company’s best interests.

If accurate, the relaunch would come in an already busy month for WWE as they take up residency at Orlando’s Amway Center for two months and introduce ThunderDome, an in-arena virtual fan experience that is similar to what the NBA has done for their games in Orlando.

Talking Smack to no longer air weekly on WWE Network

One of the staples of WWE Network original programming is having its broadcast schedule significantly reduced.

WWE issued a statement today confirming that Talking Smack will no longer air weekly and will instead only be shown after SmackDown-exclusive pay-per-views: “We continuously review WWE Network’s programming line-up based on a variety of factors, including viewership and subscriber research. Talking Smack and Raw Talk will air following pay-per-view events, and Tuesday will continue to feature 205 LIVE.”

Talking Smack was one of the elements that helped SmackDown differentiate itself from Raw after last summer’s brand split. With Renee Young and Daniel Bryan as the co-hosts of the show, it furthered storylines and provided an outlet for advanced character development.

The most memorable moment of Talking Smack’s weekly run was a segment that attempted to blur the lines between storyline and reality as Bryan and The Miz got into a heated exchange on the August 23rd, 2016 episode. After Bryan insulted Miz’s in-ring style, Miz dared him to quit and go back to the indies.

When 205 Live debuted on the Network, Talking Smack was moved back an hour and was taped during that show.

Daniel Bryan: ‘If I had any guts, I’d quit and do the indies’

Despite advertising that SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan would address Intercontinental Champion The Miz’s comments from last week’s Talking Smack, Bryan barely touched on their confrontation on Tuesday night’s edition of SmackDown.

But SmackDown’s post-show was again noteworthy, as Bryan addressed the situation on this week’s Talking Smack.

Bryan said he got up and walked away last week because he knew Miz was right. He claimed that if he had the guts, he would quit and wrestle on the indies as Miz suggested. But Bryan clarified that it would be at venues more like the Tokyo Dome than the bingo halls that Miz mentioned.

Responding to a question from Renee Young, Bryan noted that he has his health to worry about and that he’s trying to have kids with his wife Brie Bella.

Possibly clarifying why Tuesday’s SmackDown didn’t feature any interaction between the two, Bryan said WWE wasn’t letting him and Miz do anything together on TV anymore.

The only time Bryan addressed the situation on Tuesday’s SmackDown was in the show’s open. Shane McMahon told Bryan he shouldn’t provoke talent like that and he apologize to Miz. Bryan said that it was ironic given Shane’s recent involvement with Brock Lesnar, and said maybe he won’t be so truthful next time.

The clip of Bryan addressing last week’s exchange is available to watch above.

Daniel Bryan to respond to The Miz’s Talking Smack comments

After their confrontation on last week’s edition of Talking Smack created significant buzz online, the feud between SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan and Intercontinental Champion The Miz will continue on SmackDown this week.

A commercial aired during Monday’s Raw hyping Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown, and advertised that Bryan would address The Miz’s comments from last week.

Bryan and Miz blurred the lines between storyline and reality with a heated verbal exchange on Talking Smack. Bryan called Miz a coward and said that Miz embodied what he thought of as traditionally being the soft WWE style of wrestling.

Miz delivered an impassioned response, saying that his style kept him from ever being injured in his career. He turned the tables on Bryan by calling him a coward for retiring instead of returning to the ring after injuries forced him out of action.

Miz challenged Bryan to go back to the indies if WWE wouldn’t clear him, and Bryan said he would if WWE would let him.

The exchange from last week’s Talking Smack is available to watch below:

WWE adding SmackDown post-show to Network

Though the newly revamped SmackDown Live may still only be two hours long, it will be receiving an extra hour of analysis on WWE Network.

WWE announced on Tuesday that WWE Talking Smack, a weekly SmackDown wrap-up show featuring analysis and interviews will be debuting on WWE Network tonight. That is in addition to the half hour pre-show that already airs on WWE Network before both Raw and SmackDown.

Talking Smack will air immediately following SmackDown at 10 p.m. EST.

The decision to utilize another brand split was made largely to increase the profile and importance of SmackDown amidst worse than anticipated ratings on Thursday nights, and the post-show is another addition in an attempt to add original content to the Network, while making SmackDown feel like an important event.

No further announcements have been made about the content of the show.

SmackDown will air its second episode of the post-draft era tonight and our coverage begins at 8 p.m. EST
