‘Street Fighter’ actor praises Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns’ performances

Actor David Dastmalchian feels Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes’ performances in Street Fighter are a central highlight of the film.

The actor told Soundsphere that Reigns and Rhodes’ contributions to the film adaptation will certainly leave an impressionable mark on viewers.

“You can definitely tell everybody that I said that Cody Rhodes’ performance as Guile is going to be one of the highlights of Street Fighter,” he says. “And when everyone sees what Roman Reigns did as well, they’re going to freak out. It’s a great film. It’s really exciting.”

Dastmalchian portrays M.Bison, an antagonist in the Street Fighter video game series. Rhodes and Reigns were cast as Guile and Akuma, respectively.

Filming for Street Fighter began in 2025 with a star-studded cast extending beyond Hollywood. The live-adaptation of the iconic video game is being directed by Kitao Sakurai.

This isn’t the first time the game is being brought to the silver screen. In 1994, a Street Fighter film was released featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, Damian Chapa & more.

Last year around August, Rhodes was reportedly written off WWE TV during his feud with Drew McIntyre, to film for Street Fighter.

Reigns and Rhodes’ complex WWE history intertwined with the filming. Rhodes cited that he barely had any interaction with his former WrestleMania rival on set to which Reigns responded it was out of nervousness.

Street Fighter is set for release on October 16, 2026.

Roman Reigns responds to Cody Rhodes’ ‘Street Fighter’ set claims

Previously, Cody Rhodes opened up and recalled his “strange relationship” and awkward interaction with Roman Reigns on the set of ‘Street Fighter,’ and Reigns has now responded.

Speaking to Adam Glyn, Reigns was asked about Rhodes’ claims that they were kept apart on the sets of ‘Street Fighter.’

The rumor is, he was requesting that. He was a little nervous that I was showing up. He got there before me, and there was only a couple days of crossover,” Reigns said. “I think he was a little (nervous). You know what it is. The Tribal Chief comes to town, and he gets a little nervous. He doesn’t know what to do.”

‘Street Fighter’ is set to release in October 2026 and will star both Reigns and Rhodes as Akuma and Guile.

Reigns and Rhodes share a complicated history. From their early days feuding to recent back-to-back WrestleMania 39 and 40 main events against each other, the duo even proceeded to tag along at Bad Blood 2024.

Cody Rhodes recalls only interaction with Roman Reigns on ‘Street Fighter’ set

Cody Rhodes gave a glimpse into his character Guile in the upcoming Street Fighter movie and whether he ran into Roman Reigns on set.

In Rhodes’ interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, the WWE Champion was asked how he felt about portraying the patriotic pilot from the Street Fighter video game series.

“In my mind, like Green Day, ‘Time of your life’ is playing. I had so much fun.”

He was asked if he shared any scenes with Reigns and said he only ran into him once.

“We actually, I’m gonna tell you something, we had one day on set, and the way the set was, and he could probably reiterate this, I think they thought we were going to fight or have issue. Because they were very cognizant on the radios of stepping out with Guile, Akuma will be coming on. They were very cognizant of we would not cross paths. And we did because I had to tell him the direction of one of the trailers.

That was our only moment, and it was a very awkward, like the weirdest, that’s a crazy relationship. I have nothing but admiration for what he’s done and accomplished, but I don’t know what it is. I don’t know, I don’t even like talking about it because I don’t know what it is. It’s just a very strange relationship.”

When asked whether his issues were with Joe Anoa’i the person or Roman Reigns the wrestler, Rhodes reiterated the complexity of their relationship.

“I don’t know if there’s a difference and the same as me. Ask him that damn question. Yeah, but I can tell you from what I saw of his fight, if he has a fight, I can tell you what I saw was really special. And I think fans of Street Fighter, Kitao Sakurai put something really special together. And when you have an Andrew Schultz, a 50 Cent, Cody Rhodes, Roman Reigns, Orville Peck, gosh, Vidyut when you have all these fun, unique characters, and then you have Noah Centineo, you have Koji, you have Callina as the heart of the movie. It really gave us a great ensemble that we could have fun. We could not goof around, but we could try things.”

The film is set for release on October 16. The cast features several notable names from across the entertainment industry. Reigns will play the role of Akuma, while New Japan’s Hirooki Goto is cast as E. Honda.

Up next for Rhodes is a contract signing with Randy Orton on the March 13 SmackDown ahead of their match at WWE WrestleMania 42.

It was revealed today that the film will debut in theaters on October 16, 2026. The announcement was made in conjunction with the news that Legendary Entertainment and Paramount Pictures have reached a new multi-year film distribution deal.

The movie is based off the iconic “Street Fighter” video game franchise. Reigns is playing the character Akuma, while Rhodes is playing Guile and NJPW star Goto is playing E.Honda.

Here is the official description for the movie:

Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!

Comedians Andrew Schulz (as Dan Hibiki) and Eric Andre (Don Sauvage), rapper 50 Cent (Balrog), UFC fighter Alexander Volkanovski (Joe), and actor Jason Momoa (Blanka) are among the other cast members.

At WWE Clash in Paris last weekend, there was an angle writing off Reigns for his “Street Fighter” role. Rhodes, who just welcomed a new baby into the world with his wife Brandi, has been off TV for a bit. Rhodes is the current WWE Champion.

Goto most recently competed when he dropped the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship to Zack Sabre Jr. this June. NJPW announced that Goto would be missing the G1 Climax tournament over the summer due to an elbow injury.

NJPW wrestler Hirooki Goto reportedly cast in Street Fighter film

NJPW wrestler and former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto has been cast in the upcoming Street Fighter movie, according to a report.

Fightful reports that Goto has been cast as E. Honda in the new Street Fighter film set to be released in 2026. Goto would join a cast that already reportedly includes WWE talent Cody Rhodes in the role of Guile, and Roman Reigns as Akuma.

50 Cent and Jason Momoa are among the more recognizable names also attached to the project. The movie was originally slated for a March 2026 release, but currently has no official release date on the calendar.

Street Fighter is based on the classic Capcom video game of the same name, originally released in 1987.

It appears Roman Reigns isn’t the only WWE star set to appear in the film reboot of Street Fighter as old rival Cody Rhodes is reportedly set to join him.

Reported by Nexus Point News this week, Rhodes is being eyed for the role of Guile, a U.S. Air Force Colonel whose friend was killed by M. Bison and his Shadaloo organization.

No other outlet has confirmed the news, but neither Legendary Pictures or Rhodes himself has denied the report since it was released.

If accurate, Rhodes would join Reigns who has signed on to play Akuma which was confirmed last week. The cast also includes Jason Momoa, rapper 50 Cent, comedian and recent WWE Raw guest Andrew Schultz, and others. The film is set to begin production at some point this August.

It’s expected Rhodes will use his guaranteed World title shot against John Cena at August’s SummerSlam which takes place the first weekend of the month. It’s unknown how long Rhodes would be gone for if the role is indeed his.

Rhodes will also be on the big screen imminently as he has a role in the reboot of The Naked Gun which comes out on August 1st.

Roman Reigns to play Akuma in ‘Street Fighter’ movie

There is now confirmation of the role Roman Reigns will be playing in Legendary Entertainment’s live-action “Street Fighter” movie.

The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Reigns (Joe Anoa’i) will be playing Akuma in the upcoming film. It was first reported last month that Reigns was in talks to join the cast, with Hollywood insider Jeff Sneider saying Akuma is the character Reigns would be playing.

Akuma is a villain in the “Street Fighter” games and is described as an “emotionless and powerful warrior.”

Jason Momoa, Noah Centineo, and rapper Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson are also part of the cast for the movie. It’s based on the legendary “Street Fighter” video game series, but details regarding the script are not known yet. It’s being directed by Kitao Sakurai, with The Hollywood Reporter noting that production will begin this August.

WWE SummerSlam is taking place in New Jersey on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3. Though Reigns has been away from WWE TV since the fallout of WrestleMania 41, WrestleVotes reported today that he is expected to be back soon with the build to SummerSlam about to begin.

“It seems that time of year again—Roman Reigns’ return is on the horizon,” WrestleVotes tweeted. “Sources indicate his name has popped up internally in recent weeks, typically signaling the wheels are in motion for a return heading into the biggest party of the summer.”

Reigns last competed at WrestleMania 41, when Paul Heyman betrayed him and chose to align with Seth Rollins. Heyman is now managing a new faction consisting of Rollins, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed.
