Slim J posts statement reacting to AEW release

Slim J isn’t letting his AEW release deter him from his goals.

On Monday, several wrestlers were released from their AEW contracts. Slim J, Stu Grayson, Parker Boudreaux, Anthony Henry, Jora Johl, Gravity, The Boys (Brandon & Brent Tate), ring announcer Dasha Kuret, and manager Jose the Assistant were all released in the round of cuts.

Slim J tweeted out a statement on Tuesday morning reacting to his release. He said he’s grateful for the opportunity he was given in AEW and is thankful to the fans for supporting him. Slim J mentioned Ari Daivari, Caprice Coleman, and agent Bill Behrens as people who believed in him.

The 38-year-old Slim J said that, while his gimmick in AEW was “trash,” his work wasn’t. He worked a day job while with AEW and isn’t giving up on his goal of getting his wife and daughter out of the “sh*t hole” that they live in:

I’m grateful for the opportunity to have worked for AEW. Unfortunately yesterday was no April fools joke. I appreciate @AriyaDaivari for always bringing my name up and believing in me. @CapriceColeman you always put me over. As did @WilliamBehrens Thank you

Thank you to the fans that supported me. My gimmick was trash. I get that. I knew that. My work wasn’t though. I worked my shoot job through both contracts with AEW. My role there was to act rich. I’ve always been far from that in real life. Promise that.

All I wanted to do once I was signed. Was to get my wife and daughter out of the sh*t hole we live in. They’re my everything by far.i failed. Does it mean I quit. Not at all. Mouths to feed and I’m broke asf. So I’m looking for a second, second job. Stop sleeping on me.

Slim J had been wrestling in ROH before his AEW release. He was previously part of The Trustbusters in AEW, a faction that Boudreaux was also a member of. The Trustbusters were featured on AEW Dark.

At the start of his career in the early 2000s, Slim J wrestled for NWA Wildside in Georgia.

TV title eliminator tournament finals set for Ring of Honor TV

The finals of the Ring of Honor TV title eliminator tournament will take place on Thursday’s ROH on HonorClub as Shane Taylor will battle Gravity for a future shot at current champion Samoa Joe.

Gravity defeated Tony Nese on last week’s episode to earn his place in the finals while Taylor beat Christopher Daniels in the other semifinal.

Joe, meanwhile, successfully defended his TV title against Dalton Castle at Death Before Dishonor last month. Joe also defeated Gravity on the July 29th AEW Dynamite.

As part of the four matches announced for Thursday, Dalton Castle will square off against Slim J. Despite coming up short against Joe, Castle bounced back with a win against Zack Clayton on last week’s ROH TV.

After successfully defending her ROH Women’s Championship against Diamante last week, Athena will be in action against an opponent to be named.

Robyn Renegade will look to follow up her win last week against Christina Marie as she is set to step in the ring against Billie Starkz.

Here’s the current card for Thursday’s ROH TV on HonorClub with more expected to come this week:

  • Gravity vs. Shane Taylor in the finals of the ROH TV Title Eliminator Tournament
  • Dalton Castle vs. Slim J
  • Robyn Renegade vs. Billie Starkz
  • Cole Karter vs. Rhett Titus
  • Tony Nese (w/Mark Sterling) vs. Pat Buck
  • ROH Women’s Champion Athena in non-title action
  • Leyla Hirsch in action
  • Lee Moriarty in action

AEW’s Tony Khan ‘high on the idea’ of new Trust Busters trio

On the heels of a new group debuting at Saturday’s AEW Dark tapings in Orlando, Dave Meltzer is reporting that The Trust Busters may be around to stay — either in AEW or Ring of Honor.

The new group is made up of Ariya Daivari (now going by Ari), former ROH wrestler Slim J, and former WWE NXT wrestler Parker Boudreaux.

Over several segments during the tapings, the new group began to form. Ari said he is the richest person in pro wrestling after his trust fund kicked in, followed by him recruiting Slim J into his group. The two then teamed up to pick up a win.

Later in the day, Boudreaux made his surprise debut and it was then revealed he was part of the group.

Meltzer said, “Right now no decision has been made regarding if this will be primarily for AEW or ROH, but Tony Khan was high on the idea.”

While AEW might not be an immediate option due to the amount of talent currently on the roster, ROH does return to pay-per-view this Saturday with Death Before Dishonor — their first event since early-April.

While no announcement has been made regarding ROH returning to TV, Khan has mentioned in the past that he is in talks with Warner Bros. Discovery.
