Australian wrestler Slex signs new contract with ROH

One year after first arriving in the promotion, Slex has signed a new contract with Ring of Honor.

It was announced on Thursday that Slex has re-signed with ROH. Slex, who is from Melbourne, Australia, hasn’t been able to wrestle for ROH since February of last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ROH stated that they remain committed to Slex and the rest of their international talent.

Slex had been set to face Jeff Cobb at ROH’s 18th Anniversary last March, but that event was canceled due to the pandemic. Cobb was replacing Adam Brooks in that match. Brooks is also from Australia and had been pulled from the 18th Anniversary PPV due to travel issues prior to it being canceled.

Slex made his ROH debut against Flip Gordon last February and has had three matches for ROH in total.

Here’s ROH’s full announcement regarding Slex’s new contract:

Ring of Honor is pleased to announce that Slex has re-signed with the company.

Despite the Australian star not having competed in ROH in nearly a year due to travel restrictions caused by the pandemic, the company remains committed to him and the rest of its international talent.

Known as ‘The Business,’ Slex signed with ROH at the end of 2019 and made his ROH debut last February.

The Melbourne native is one of the top stars in his home country. Slex was the first Melbourne City Wrestling (MCW) Heavyweight Champion and is one of only three men to have won the title on multiple occasions.

He’s a two-time holder of the MCW Intercommonwealth Championship and also has competed for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Mark Haskins, Bandido, Amy Rose, Bateman, Brian Johnson, Sumie Sakai, Tracy Williams, The Bouncers (Beer City Bruiser & Brian Milonas), Jonathan Gresham, Jay Lethal, Rush, Dragon Lee, Kenny King, and ROH Dojo trainee Sledge have also recently re-signed with ROH, while Rush and Dragon Lee’s father La Bestia del Ring has signed his first contract with the company.

Jeff Cobb replacing Adam Brooks at ROH 18th Anniversary PPV

Adam Brooks won’t be making his ROH debut at Friday’s 18th Anniversary pay-per-view after all.

ROH has announced that — due to travel issues — Brooks will no longer be appearing at their 18th Anniversary PPV. Jeff Cobb is replacing Brooks and will face Slex at the show.

It was confirmed last month that Brooks has signed with ROH. Him facing Slex at the Anniversary PPV was going to be a matchup between Australian wrestling standouts.

Slex also recently signed with ROH. He debuted at Free Enterprise last month and has had three matches for the promotion.

ROH wrote that “Cobb, who is willing to take on anyone in any promotion, wants to wear ROH gold around his waist again, and he knows a victory over Slex would strengthen his case for a title shot.”

ROH’s 18th Anniversary PPV is taking place at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas, Nevada this Friday. The venue will also host ROH Past vs. Present the next night.

Here’s the updated card for the Anniversary PPV:

  • ROH World Champion Rush defending against Mark Haskins
  • ROH Television Champion Dragon Lee defending against Bandido
  • ROH Tag Team Champions Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham defending against Villain Enterprises (Marty Scurll & Flip Gordon)
  • The Briscoes vs. Dalton Castle & Joe Hendry
  • Villain Enterprises (PCO & Brody King) vs. Rey Horus & Alex Zayne
  • Dealer’s Choice match: Dan Maff vs. Kenny King vs. Shane Taylor vs. Bateman (winner gets a future title shot of his choosing)
  • Jeff Cobb vs. Slex
  • Eli Isom vs. Bully Ray
  • Nicole Savoy vs. Session Moth Martina

Adam Brooks to make ROH debut against Slex at 18th Anniversary

Adam Brooks has an opponent for his official Ring of Honor debut.

ROH announced today that Brooks will face fellow Australian wrestling standout and new ROH signee Slex at their 18th Anniversary pay-per-view. The event is taking place at Sam’s Town Live in Las Vegas, Nevada on Friday, March 13.

Brooks signing with ROH was officially confirmed earlier this month. He wrestled for the promotion once before at a show in the United Kingdom in 2018.

ROH wrote about Brooks vs. Slex:

When Adam Brooks steps into an ROH ring for the first time on U.S. soil, he’ll see a familiar face standing across from him.

Brooks will take on fellow Australian star Slex in his debut at ROH 18th Anniversary in Las Vegas on March 13. Brooks and Slex have been rivals in Australia for nearly seven years.

They traded the Melbourne City Wrestling Intercommonwealth Title back and forth in 2018. This past November, Brooks won the MCW World Heavyweight Title from Slex in a three-way elimination match.

Brooks undoubtedly wants to make a strong first impression on ROH fans, and now he has the opportunity to do so at the expense of his longtime adversary.

Slex also has plenty of incentive. After coming up just short in an exciting match against Flip Gordon at Free Enterprise on Feb. 9 in his ROH debut, ‘The Business’ is eager to start compiling victories.

Dragon Lee defending the ROH Television title against Bandido has also been confirmed for the 18th Anniversary PPV, along with Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham defending their ROH Tag Team titles against Marty Scurll & Flip Gordon.

In a match with Anniversary PPV implications, PCO is defending his ROH World Championship against Rush and Mark Haskins in a triple threat match at Gateway to Honor on February 29. The wrestler who doesn’t lose the fall in that match will challenge for the ROH World title at 18th Anniversary

Sam’s Town Live is also hosting ROH Past vs. Present on Saturday, March 14.

ROH holding free show next month, Slex and Martina to debut

Ring of Honor is holding a show in Baltimore next month that will be free to attend.

The event is called Free Enterprise and is taking place at the UMBC Event Center on Sunday, February 9. The show will begin at 3 p.m. Eastern time and will stream live on HonorClub.

Tickets will be made available to HonorClub members at 10 a.m. Eastern time on Wednesday, January 15 and then to the general public at 10 a.m. Eastern on Friday, January 17. ROH noted that all tickets are for reserved seating and seating will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. There will also be a free meet-and-greet for HonorClub members.

Australian wrestler and new ROH signee Slex will make his debut against Flip Gordon at the show, The Briscoes will face Bandido & Flamita, and ROH Tag Team Champions Jay Lethal & Jonathan Gresham will defend their titles against Jeff Cobb & Dan Maff.

Ireland’s Session Moth Martina, who signed with ROH last year, will also make her Women of Honor debut at Free Enterprise. ROH World Champion PCO, TV Champion Dragon Lee, Rush, and Marty Scurll are advertised as well.

ROH wrote that “Free Enterprise is an extension of the ongoing #ROHCares initiative in which ROH gives back to the community. This program has seen top stars regularly visit children’s hospitals and has provided veterans with free tickets to live events through a partnership with Vet Tix. Now ROH is giving all professional wrestling fans the ultimate opportunity to feel the ROH Experience in its hometown of Baltimore, MD, absolutely FREE.”
