MLW announces match for vacant Tag Team titles

After vacating the belts, MLW has revealed how its new tag team champions will be crowned.

Satoshi Kojima & Okumura vs. Second Gear Crew (Matthew Justice & 1 Called Manders) for the MLW Tag Team titles will take place at the promotion’s Azteca Lucha event in Cicero, Illinois on Saturday, May 11. The show is being held at Cicero Stadium and will air live on TrillerTV+.

The MLW Tag Team titles were declared vacant this week following an angle where champions Tom Lawlor & Davey Boy Smith Jr. were attacked by Contra Unit. MLW said that the attack “left Tom Lawlor hospitalized and Davey Boy Smith Jr. unable to compete, resulting in the championship committee declaring the titles vacant.”

A Lawlor & Smith vs. Kojima & Okumura match was being set up prior to Lawlor & Smith vacating the tag titles.

Kojima & Okumura is a pairing of NJPW and CMLL veterans. In MLW, Kojima is the promotion’s current World Heavyweight Champion.

Second Gear Crew are former MLW tag champs, holding the titles from November 2023 until February of this year.

Here’s the updated Azteca Lucha card:

  • MLW Middleweight Champion Mistico defends against Barbaro Cavernario
  • Atlantis Jr. vs. Ultimo Guerrero
  • Satoshi Kojima & Okumura vs. Second Gear Crew for the vacant MLW Tag Team titles
  • Star Jr. & Fuego vs. Magnus vs. Averno

Tag Team title ladder match added to MLW Fightland

The MLW Tag Team titles will be up for grabs in a ladder match at Fightland.

MLW has announced that The Calling (Rickey Shane Page & AKIRA) will defend their titles against Second Gear Crew (1 Called Manders & Matthew Justice) in a ladder match at Fightland. The event is taking place from Philadelphia on Saturday, November 18 and will air live on Fite+.

This is a rematch from the most recent episode of MLW Fusion. The Calling and Second Gear Crew faced off in a tables match in the main event of that show. It ended in a draw when Justice and AKIRA went through a table at the same time. Following the match, Second Gear Crew challenged The Calling to take it to a “whole new level of violence” by facing them in a ladder match.

The Calling have been MLW Tag Team Champions since winning the titles from Lance Anoa’i & Juicy Finau this July. Anoa’i & Finau were recently granted their releases from MLW.

Rickey Shane Page is a double champion in MLW, also holding the promotion’s National Openweight Championship.

Mance Warner, a fellow Second Gear Crew member, is facing Matt Cardona in a Loser Leaves MLW match at Fightland. The updated card for the show is listed below:

  • MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Kane defends against Jacob Fatu
  • Loser Leaves MLW match: Matt Cardona vs. Mance Warner
  • Ladder match: MLW Tag Team Champions The Calling (Rickey Shane Page & AKIRA) defend against Second Gear Crew (1 Called Manders & Matthew Justice)
  • Lucha libre rules match: Rocky Romero & Barbaro Cavernario vs. Mascara Dorada 2.0 & Ichiban

The Briscoes win GCW Tag Team titles at War Ready

The Briscoes are the new Game Changer Wrestling Tag Team Champions.

The Briscoes defeated champions the Second Gear Crew (Mance Warner and Matthew Justice) at tonight’s GCW War Ready event in Los Angeles, California. The finish had both champions being pinned after a Jay Driller from Jay and a froggy elbow by Mark, After the match, the champions got back up to their feet and their music played as they walked to the back. The Second Gear Crew had held the titles for 92 days, defeating G-Raver and Jimmy Lloyd back on July 24.

The Briscoes made a surprise appearance back at GCW Fight Club on October 9 after the Second Gear Crew declared that there weren’t any teams in pro wrestling that could challenge them. The Brisoces, who have been ROH regulars since the company’s inception, then appeared and accepted the challenge, leading to tonight’s match.

After holding Bloodsport and War Ready this weekend, GCW will return with Evil Deeds on November 12.
