Two-out-of-three falls Intercontinental title match official for next WWE Raw

A SummerSlam rematch is set for next week’s Raw.

On this week’s show, Sami Zayn was despondent backstage over his loss against Bron Breakker on Saturday. Jey Uso attempted to cheer him up, saying he knew he’d get his title back in a rematch. Zayn then revealed he already went to Adam Pearce and got the rematch for next week. The graphic for the next Raw announced it would be a two-out-of-three falls match.

Breakker defeated Zayn at SummerSlam to win the Intercontinental title for the first time, ending Zayn’s reign that started at WrestleMania 40.

Also set for next week is Damage CTRL (IYO SKY & Kairi Sane) taking on Zoey Stark & Shayna Baszler in a match that will determine the next contenders for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles. During Monday’s show, Damage CTRL came out and attacked the trio of Sonya Deville, Stark, and Baszler. The latter trio responded by taking out Dakota Kai backstage, injuring her knee. When Deville came out for her match against Kai, SKY took her place, scoring the win for Damage CTRL.

Here is the lineup for next week’s Raw:

  • Two out of three falls match for WWE Intercontinental title: Bron Breakker defends against Sami Zayn
  • Number one contender’s match for WWE Women’s Tag Team titles: Damage CTRL (IYO SKY and Kairi Sane) vs. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark

Sami Zayn: Bron Breakker has a ‘very magnetic personality’ that fans will eventually see

Sami Zayn believes Bron Breakker has all of the necessary tools to reach WWE stardom.

When SummerSlam takes place in Cleveland this Saturday, Zayn will put his Intercontinental title on the line against Breakker. Ahead of the match, Zayn appeared on Busted Open Radio and gave his thoughts on Breakker as a performer. Fans have seen Breakker’s intensity, but Zayn believes he also has a “magnetic personality” that will eventually make him a complete player in WWE.

“Anybody who takes a look at him, his trajectory has been incredible. His strength, his speed — obviously it jumps off the page. Actually, even personality wise, I know he’s not there yet in the sense that fans haven’t seen it yet, but this guy will have a very magnetic personality eventually when fans start to see that side of him,” Zayn said.

“So I think with enough time and enough finessing and just the right people telling him the right things, which as you know in our industry could always go awry with the wrong people telling you the wrong things — I think if he stays the path, he’s going to be a very complete player. And he’s going to be about more than just, ‘Oh, a strong guy who runs really fast and has a great spear.’ I think there’s a lot more to his game than that. And he’s going to be good. I just hope it’s not at my expense at SummerSlam.”

Breakker has also spoken highly of Zayn in interviews. He told the Getting Over wrestling podcast that working with Zayn is a “bucket list thing.”

Zayn vs. Breakker is a rematch from Money in the Bank, where Zayn managed to escape with a victory and retain the Intercontinental title. If Breakker wins on Saturday, it will be his first main roster championship reign. He was a two-time NXT Champion before being called up.

In addition to wrestling at SummerSlam, Zayn will be hosting a comedy show in Cleveland this Friday night.

Sami Zayn vs. Bron Breakker Intercontinental title match set for WWE SummerSlam

Bron Breakker is getting another Intercontinental title match.

Breakker defeated Ilja Draungov on Monday’s Raw to become the new number one contender for the title, earning a title match against Sami Zayn for SummerSlam on August 3. The finish had Dragunov attempting a strike off the apron, but Breakker countered with a spear in mid-air. After checking on Dragunov, the referee stopped the match and awarded the bout to Breakker.

The very end of Raw saw Breakker spear Zayn after he and Jey Uso defeated World Tag Team Champions Finn Balor & JD McDonagh.

After losing to Zayn at Money in the Bank, Breakker has continued to seek another title match. On last week’s Raw, he attacked both Dragunov and Zayn during their title match, ending the bout prematurely.

It was also announced on Raw that music star Jelly Roll will be performing at SummerSlam. An exchange between Jelly Roll and Triple H on X last week teased a possible appearance.

Here’s the current SummerSlam card with both official and expected matches based on recent TV:

  • WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes defends against Solo Sikoa
  • WWE World Heavyweight Champion Damien Priest defends against Gunther
  • WWE Women’s Champion Bayley defends against Nia Jax
  • WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan defends against Rhea Ripley
  • WWE U.S. Champion Logan Paul defends against LA Knight
  • WWE Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn defends against Bron Breakker
  • CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre with special guest referee Seth Rollins
  • Jelly Roll to perform

Bron Breakker: Sami Zayn is so good, working with him is a ‘bucket list thing’

Bron Breakker has enjoyed working with Sami Zayn during their Intercontinental title feud.

During an interview on the Getting Over wrestling podcast, Breakker said he’s having the time of his life since joining the WWE main roster. He’s excited for the future and is happy to be in a program with Zayn.

“It’s been great, man,” Breakker said about working with Zayn. “It’s been a heck of a time. You know, Sami is so good. Such a great dude. It’s just been a pleasure of mine to be able to share the ring with him. A bucket list thing for me. And I’m just excited for the years to come.”

Zayn managed to retain his Intercontinental title against Breakker at Money in the Bank. It looks like they’ll be facing each other again at SummerSlam next month, potentially in a triple threat match with Ilja Dragunov added. Breakker interrupted a Zayn vs. Dragunov title match on Raw this Monday and laid out both of them.

When asked if there’s anyone in WWE who he’s looked up to as a mentor, Breakker named Roman Reigns, Paul Heyman, and CM Punk as people who have helped him. He said the locker room as a whole has been very welcoming and supportive.

Breakker was a two-time NXT Champion before being called up. If he wins the Intercontinental title at SummerSlam, it will be Breakker’s first title reign on the main roster.

Sami Zayn comedy show added to WWE SummerSlam weekend

WWE has confirmed another event that will be taking place in Cleveland during SummerSlam weekend.

The company announced today that Sami Zayn will host a comedy show at The Agora Cleveland on Friday, August 2, which is the day before SummerSlam. “Sami Zayn & Friends Do Cleveland” is the name of the show.

Zayn also performed at the Netflix is a Joke festival in Los Angeles this May and in Toronto during Money in the Bank week earlier this month.

“Sami Zayn & Friends Do Cleveland is a comedy and variety show featuring guests from the worlds of comedy, television and WWE. The debut show in Toronto featured WWE Superstars Cody Rhodes and Bayley, Johnny Knoxville and others,” WWE wrote.

Tickets are going on sale to the general public this Wednesday (July 17) at 10 a.m. Eastern time. Before that, a pre-sale will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

WWE noted that a limited number of post-show meet-and-greet tickets with Zayn are being put on sale as well.

The Agora Cleveland will also be the venue for a one-man show that The Undertaker is performing on the afternoon of August 3 before SummerSlam.

Zayn, who currently holds the Intercontinental Championship, has a title defense against Ilja Dragunov on Raw tonight. It’s expected that Zayn will defend against Bron Breakker at SummerSlam either in a one-on-one match or in a triple threat with Dragunov added.

Cleveland Browns Stadium will be the venue for SummerSlam.

Intercontinental title match announced for WWE Raw

The Intercontinental title will be on the line when WWE Raw takes place from Dayton, Ohio this Monday.

Ilja Dragunov will challenge Sami Zayn for the championship on the Monday, July 15 episode of Raw. The matchup was announced on Saturday afternoon via a video WWE posted with Raw General Manager Adam Pearce.

At Money in the Bank last weekend, Zayn managed to retain his Intercontinental title against Bron Breakker. Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that a Zayn vs. Breakker rematch was listed internally for next month’s SummerSlam card, though Meltzer noted that it’s possible Dragunov is added to make it a triple threat given that he’s become part of the Zayn/Breakker program.

Dragunov came to Zayn’s defense when Breakker attacked him on Raw this past Monday. Later in the episode, Zayn tried to return the favor after a Dragunov vs. Breakker match ended in a disqualification. Breakker left both Dragunov and Zayn laying.

Here’s the updated lineup for Monday’s Raw:

  • World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest & Gunther go face-to-face
  • Drew McIntyre returns
  • Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn defends against Ilja Dragunov
  • Bronson Reed vs. Sheamus
  • Rhea Ripley opens the show

Sami Zayn comedy show set for WWE Money in the Bank week

Sami Zayn is bringing his comedy show to Toronto in advance of Money in the Bank.

Last month, Zayn performed in Los Angeles as part of the Netflix is a Joke festival. WWE has announced that he’ll follow up on that with “Sami Zayn & Friends Do Toronto” taking place on Thursday, July 4 — two days before the city hosts Money in the Bank.

The Danforth Music Hall will be the venue for Zayn’s event. It’s a comedy and variety show that will include appearances from other WWE talent, along with guests from comedy and television.

Tickets for the comedy show are going on sale this Wednesday (June 19) at 10 a.m. Eastern time. The pre-sale begins at 10 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday.

WWE notes that “a limited number of post-show meet-and-greet tickets” with Zayn will also be available.

At WWE Clash at the Castle over the weekend, Zayn retained his Intercontinental title against Chad Gable after in-fighting between Gable and Alpha Academy. Zayn has been champion since dethroning Gunther at WrestleMania 40.

Money in the Bank is being held at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on July 6. The venue will host SmackDown on July 5 and NXT Heatwave on July 7.

Zayn also performed a comedy show in Toronto during SummerSlam week in 2019.

WWE Raw live results: Bron Breakker vs. Ilja Dragunov

WWE Raw tonight is the go-home show for Saturday’s Clash at the Castle PLE in Glasgow, Scotland, with just three matches official for tonight from the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio.

After defeating Ricochet last week, Bron Breakker will look to continue his four-match main roster win streak as he battles Ilja Dragunov in a clash of former NXT Champions. This was set up last week after Dragunov saved Ricochet from a post-match attack. It is also a rematch from July 2023 in NXT.

Ahead of his title defense against Chad Gable this Saturday, Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn will take on Gable’s Alpha Academy stablemate Otis in non-title action.

Former WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY will take on Lyra Valkyria in a rematch from the recent Queen of the Ring tournament when Valkyria picked up the win. SKY attacked her last week to set this into motion.

Tonight’s live coverage kicks off at 8 PM Eastern.

Following the WWE signature open, we got a live shot of the crowd in Toledo, OH, as Michael Cole and Pat McAfee welcomed us to the show. Backstage shots of Ilja Dragunov, Bron Breakker, Damage CTRL, and Lyra Valkyria walking were shown.

Drew McIntyre opens Raw

The challenger to Damian Priest’s World Heavyweight Championship made his way to a great reaction from the crowd as commentary recapped the end of Raw last week that featured McIntyre getting laid out by Priest and a South of Heaven chokeslam through the announcer table.

As the crowd chanted “CM Punk” at McIntyre, the man himself said that he was not focused on anything else other than being the new World Champion in five days at Clash of the Castle. He said that wherever Priest went, Judgment Day was scurrying right behind him. Before he could continue, the music of Damian Priest interrupted McIntyre. “Say his name and he appears,” said Pat McAfee of Priest’s arrival.

Priest walked down the ramp, flanked by Finn Balor and JD McDonagh. He started by saying that McIntyre was still making excuses and that he made things personal right now. Priest said that the title he was holding was not the Judgment Day’s world title. He declared that he was going to put McIntyre down at Clash, and that he didn’t need any help from Judgment Day to remain champion. “I’m Champion, because I’m Damian Priest,” said the World Champion.

McIntyre fired back by claiming that the only reason Priest has a chance of retaining was because of Balor and McDonagh’s intervention. This prompted Priest to issue the challenge: McIntyre versus Finn Balor tonight on Raw, with the stipulation being that if McIntyre beat Balor, the Judgment Day would be barred on Saturday.

McIntyre seemed to accept the challenge, telling Priest that he had better be ready to shake his hand next Monday after McIntyre humiliates him at Clash at the Castle. McIntyre walked off to his music as we went to the commentators.

**********

Cole and McAfee recapped the happenings with Liv Morgan and Dominik Mysterio’s apparent romance on Raw last week as we went to the Judgment Day’s corner of the arena, where Morgan was seen being confronted by Dominik.

Morgan said that maybe Dominik needed a girl who wasn’t afraid to call him “daddy” as she walked away and left a card with her hotel room number for Dominik.

IYO SKY (w/ Dakota Kai & Kairi Sane) defeated Lyra Valkyria

Valkyria opened the match by battering SKY in the corner before the referee broke it up. This allowed SKY to take advantage as she went on the offensive with repeated stomps and punches.

SKY’s running charge was avoided by a somersault from Valkyria, as she followed that up with a dropkick and a bridging suplex. SKY had a somersault dodge of her own, but Valkyria caught her in a modified pretzel clutch submission in the middle of the ring. She went for a bridge pin and the two-count. SKY rolled outside, and stopped a dropkick from Valkyria before soaring with a moonsault that took us to the commercial break spot.

We returned to Raw with Valkyria taking SKY down with a springboard crossbody. With the advantage on her side, Valkyria floored SKY with a nice top-rope missile dropkick for the near-fall.

SKY regained momentum when she sent Valkyria into the middle turnbuckle, as she then hit a backbreaker. Moonsault attempt by SKY avoided by Valkyria, who went for a flash rollup for another near-fall. Valkyria hit SKY with the Nightwing, but Dakota Kai broke up the count behind the referee’s back.

Valkyria took out Kai and Sane. This allowed SKY to hit the corner meteora and put Valkyria in position for the moonsault. Valkyria blocked that with her knees as she tried again for the Nightwing, but SKY pulled at Valkyria’s hair as she then rolled her up for the one, two, three.

Post-match, Kai and Sane attacked Valkyria in the ring as SKY got to her feet and continued the assault. Before Damage CTRL could continue their attack, Katana Chance and Kayden Carter ran in to even the odds. Damage CTRL backed off, with the odds now even.

Fantastic opening bout from Valkyria and SKY. I enjoyed the chemistry the two showed and we should be in for an interesting feud with Damage CTRL vs. Valkyria and Carter & Chance that will likely lead to a six-woman tag match in the near future.

– Back again at the Judgment Day corner, Dominik was met by Finn Balor, Carlito, and JD McDonagh. Dominik showed the trio the hotel room card that Liv Morgan left him. “That’s cool,” remarked Carlito. A poster of Rhea Ripley was seen behind Dominik during this segment for some nice symbolism.

– We were shown Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair walking backstage as the commentators switched gears to recapping the ongoing saga between Sami Zayn, Chad Gable, and the Alpha Academy.

– The Miz was looking for R-Truth backstage and asked Sami Zayn where he was. As Miz left, Zayn walked around and met with Maxxine and Akira Tozawa. Zayn apologized for what happened last week to Maxxine. Otis walked in and tried to apologize for his actions last week, saying as he “lost it”. As Zayn said that he understood Otis’s plight, Otis talked about how he lost everything: his “peach” (Mandy Rose), his “Tucky”, (Tucker from Heavy Machinery) and his Money in the Bank briefcase. Otis said that without them, he was nothing, and that Chad Gable and Alpha Academy brought him new meaning. Zayn answered by saying that Otis didn’t have to keep taking Gable’s abuse and to think about it hard as he then left Otis and Alpha Academy to their thoughts.

– We once again returned to the Judgment Day as Damian Priest entered the scene. Priest wondered about the hotel card that Liv left for Dominik. The card in question was gone as Priest wondered where it disappeared to. Dominik acted sheepish about the card’s disappearance.

– Ludwig Kaiser talked about how he beat Sheamus last week on Raw, as he boasted that he deserved to be to the top and that anyone who dared to oppose him would be “illuminated”. He officially staked his claim for the Money in the Bank ladder match at the end.

Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee & Braun Strowman defeated The Judgment Day (Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh) and Carlito

As the LWO made their entrance, another Uncle Howdy QR code flashed on the screen, which the commentators made note of.

Carlito tried to attack Strowman, but got a Biel throw for his troubles. Carlito tagged in Dominik, but McDonagh got tagged in after his dad Rey entered the match.

Mysterio worked over McDonagh as he tagged Dragon Lee into the match. Lee had the momentum, but Dominik dropped him on his head behind the referee’s back before getting tagged in himself. Blind tag by Mysterio allowed for him and Lee to send Dominik to the outside. McDonagh also got sent out of the ring. Mysterio caught by Judgment Day on the outside, as he’s used as a battering ram to clothesline Lee when he tried to go for a dive. This sent us to a commercial break.

Back in the ring with Mysterio and Carlito the legal men. Both men down and out as they attempted to reach their respective corners. Carlito managed to make it to tag McDonagh in, which allowed for him to stop Mysterio at the pass and take control for his team.

Mysterio tried to mount a comeback on Carlito, but that got snuffed out quickly. Carlito punched out Lee in the corner as Mysterio again created separation by removing McDonagh and Dominik from the equation, which finally allowed to try and tag Strowman in. But, McDonagh and Dominik took down Strowman from the apron and rammed him into the corner.

Judgment Day took over in the match with Mysterio completely isolated form his partners for the time being. That advantage was stopped cold as Mysterio hit a DDT on McDonagh, which gave him time to tag in Dragon Lee into the match.

Lee utilized his high-flying offense to briefly keep Carlito on his toes. Lee had Carlito trapped in a tree of woe position and stomped right on him. McDonagh broke up the two-count. Dominik dropkicked his father to the outside and his attention was caught by Liv Morgan, who was on the apron.

Dominik tried to shoo away Morgan, but she got sent into him after Zelina Vega shoved her off the apron. While Morgan was on top of Dominik, she looked at him lustfully. As things broke down, Braun Strowman finally got tagged in and he ran through Judgment Day like a freight train at ringside.

Running powerslam by Strowman was then followed by Dragon Lee leaping off of Strowman’s shoulders for a splash on Carlito, which gave his team the victory.

Pretty standard six-man tag match, but the continuing situation between Dominik and Liv Morgan got a bit more intriguing near the end, so the aftermath on that will be one to watch.

**********

– The commentators talked about Bron Breakker vs. Ilja Dragunov as they threw it to a promo from Dragunov. The Mad Dragon talked about how he was going to make Breakker suffer and that he wasn’t going to stop until he was done breaking him.

– Backstage, Ricochet appeared to give Dragunov a bit of a pep talk. Dragunov said that he was going to slay the beast tonight, then promising to go another round with Ricochet once he was done with Breakker.

– A promo for SmackDown this Friday hyped a confrontation between Cody Rhodes & AJ Styles ahead of their I Quit match at Clash at the Castle, as well as Kevin Owens vs. Solo Sikoa.

**********

– Damage CTRL were backstage as it appeared that IYO SKY was once again completely frustrated after what went on following her match against Lyra Valkyria. She stormed off screaming in anger while Dakota Kai and Kairi Sane looked on in concern.

Sami Zayn addresses the Chad Gable problem

Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn walked to the ring and grabbed a mic. He talked about how the past couple of weeks have been a “messed up couple of weeks” ahead of his Clash at the Castle IC Title defense against Chad Gable.

Zayn said that something so personal got turned into something he can’t quite describe after all of Gable’s machinations and manipulations of Alpha Academy. He said that on Saturday, he was going to defeat Gable and put an end to all this.

Before Zayn could continue his piece, Chad Gable and Alpha Academy interrupted him . Gable got strong “you suck” chants as he entered.

Gable said that this was “typical Sami Zayn” by trying to interjecting himself into everyone’s business without asking. Gable spoke for Alpha Academy’s behalf by claiming that they were happy, and that by winning the Intercontinental title on Saturday, that would make them even happier.

Zayn incredulously asked if Otis, Akira Tozawa, and Maxxine if they were happy with Gable’s claims. He bluntly said that Gable didn’t care about the three of them, and that the fans cared about them the most. Zayn told the Alpha Academy that they would be happiest once they left Gable once and for all.

Gable angrily replied that he was going to unleash the version of Otis that didn’t care about showing any remorse for anything right at this moment, or rather, after the commercial break.

Sami Zayn defeated Otis (w/ Chad Gable)

The match started from the break with Otis battering Zayn in the corner as Gable barked out orders at ringside. Otis went for a running splash on Zayn, as he then repeated the move on Gable’s orders.

Gable got on the apron and shouted at Otis to listen to him, but that opened him up to a Helluva Kick by Zayn for the quick victory.

Post-match, Gable attacked Zayn and held him up for Otis to hit him. Otis hesitated as Gable shouted and slapped Otis some more for refusing to listen to him. Otis hyped himself up and ran into Zayn in the corner before he dropped him with the World’s Strongest Slam.

Gable tried to stand side-by-side with Otis, but he quickly turned to him as Gable began cower in fear. Otis raised a fist and stopped himself before he left, conflicted.

Surprisingly short match, but it did the job well in building up the Gable vs. Zayn title match on Saturday and the prospect of Alpha Academy finally turning against their oppressive headmaster. The uncertainty with Gable’s contract status adds another element of intrigue to the proceedings.

– The Miz finally found R-Truth, who told his championship partner that they were supposedly defending their Tag Titles against the “APA” tonight on Raw. It turned out, that they were set to take on the Authors of Pain tonight as Scarlett gave the Awesome Truth the “Death” tarot card.

– They showed a tweet from Cody Rhodes regarding the NXT Battleground main event, as we found out that Rhodes will be on NXT tomorrow night. The commentators then congratulated Kelani Jordan for being the first ever NXT Women’s North American Champion.

– A recap of Jey Uso’s declaration for the Money in the Bank ladder match was shown.

Zoey Stark & Shayna Baszler defeated Unholy Union (Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn)

Women’s Tag Team Champions Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill were ringside for this match.

Before Dawn & Fyre’s entrance, they were interviewed at the Gorilla position by Cathy Kelley.

Dawn started the match by dropkicking Baszler right in her injured knee from last night’s NXT Underground match. Dawn & Fyre had the upper hand on Stark early on.

Stark fought back and flattened Dawn with a clothesline and tried to go for a tag to Baszler, but she was down and out for the moment. Fyre & Dawn hit a double team move on Stark as Baszler finally returned to the match and got tagged in.

Roll-up by Fyre got kicked out by Baszler as she stomped on Fyre’s shoulder. Fyre kicked at the injured knee of Baszler, but to no avail. Ultimately, it was the Kirafuda Clutch by Baszler on Fyre that put an end to this match via referee stoppage.

This match didn’t really last long enough for me to get a full impression, and I thought it was an odd choice for it to be this short. Hopefully the triple threat tag team match at Clash at the Castle has more time to cook, so to speak.

**********

– A hype package for Bron Breakker played just before he made his way to the ring for his match against Ilja Dragunov.

– A tweet from former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III talking about how Breakker was one to watch was shown heading out of the commercial break.

Bron Breakker defeated Ilja Dragunov

As the bell rang, Breakker and Dragunov exchanged blows in the middle of the ring as Dragunov got the better of his foe with repeated chops. Breakker bounced back and tackled Dragunov, followed by a series of hard punches to the face.

Dragunov regained the advantage and trapped Breakker into another corner of the ring with repeated chops to the chest. Dragunov paintbrushed Breakker with a running boot in the corner. Breakker stopped Dragunov’s momentum by sending him careening into the middle rope. Raw went to a break in the action with Dragunov on the outside.

Raw returned with Breakker having Dragunov trapped in a chinlock. Dragunov fought out of it but got dropped with a standing powerslam by Breakker for a two-count.

Breakker continued the attack on the back of Dragunov’s head with repeated strikes followed by another chinlock. Dragunov escaped and booted Breakker in the head. Dragunov went on the offensive with multiple clotheslines, then landing the Constantin Special on Breakker.

Dragunov dove off the top rope with a knee to the forehead of Breakker. German suplex barrage by Dragunov hits the trifecta for the near-fall. Breakker fought out of a powerbomb attempt by Dragunov with a back body drop.

Dragunov lifted Breakker up on his shoulder for a Death Valley Driver right into the bottom turnbuckle. With Breakker stunned in the corner, Dragunov went Coast to Coast with a dropkick onto him. Diving senton splash by Dragunov wasn’t enough to put Breakker away.

As Dragunov had a full head of speed, he got his head near taken off by a vicious Steinerline by Breakker. The Spear attempt got stopped by a knee from Dragunov, who then caught Breakker with the H-Bomb. The action spilled outside the ring as Dragunov kicked Breakker over the commentary table. Dragunov attempted a suplex, but Breakker blocked it and dropped Dragunov ribs-first onto the table.

Breakker lifted Dragunov on his shoulder and proceeded to target those injured ribs of Dragunov with slams onto the barricade and ring post. In the ring, Dragunov tried to fight back, but he got surprised by a Spear out of nowhere by Breakker. Dragunov rolled out of the ring, but got bulldozed by another Spear on the outside. Breakker pulled down the stripes as Dragunov pulled himself into the ring, then putting an end to this incredible match with one last Spear.

After the match, Breakker tried to hit yet another spear on Dragunov through the barricade, but Ricochet intercepted him with a diving kick out of nowhere.

Excellent, hard-hitting TV match between Breakker and Dragunov. This had my attention from start to finish. Both Breakker and Dragunov are great at a smash mouth style of wrestling and we got a great showcase of it here. I find myself enjoying this whole angle with Dragunov/Breakker/Ricochet.

– The Judgment Day were huddled together again discussing Liv Morgan and the hotel card she left Dominik. Priest said that he trusted Dominik to take care of business and put his foot down as it related to Morgan. While the group were fistbumping one another, Finn Balor took Liv’s card and put it in his pocket while nobody was looking.

– Sheamus and Drew McIntyre were backstage talking about their future plans. McIntyre told Sheamus to be there for Saturday as he looks to become the World Heavyweight Champion. Sheamus talked about how Ludwig Kaiser had the “mother and father of all receipts” coming to him after last week and that he was ready to win Money in the Bank. McIntyre then said Sheamus had better warn him in advance of a cash-in should he win the briefcase. The two men agreed that it would end up being “banger after banger after banger” if they ever met with the title on the line.

WWE World Tag Team Championship: Awesome Truth (R-Truth & The Miz) defeated Authors of Pain (Akam & Rezar)

Prior to the match, the Final Testament were asked about AOP’s upcoming match, as Kross talked directly to Xavier Woods, stating that maybe once AOP won the World Tag Titles, he’ll realize that he may better suited for the Final Testament, especially after how Kofi Kingston supposedly “abandoned” him.

Miz & Rezar opened the match before Akam got tagged in and the AOP had the upper hand as Raw went to an abrupt commercial break within the first minute of the match.

We returned with Miz in trouble as Akam tried to stop him from tagging Truth in, to no avail. Truth entered the match and hit the John Cena tribute set on Akam. Rezar got thrown over the top rope as Miz and Truth tried to go for the double Five Knuckle Shuffle. Scarlett’s distraction allowed Karrion Kross to pull down Miz & Truth.

Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods ran down and attacked Kross, which gave Awesome Truth the opportunity to roll up Akam after a failed attempt to hit him with the World Tag Team Championship belt. Miz got the pin to help his team retain their Tag Team titles.

Not really much to say here, as the only development we got was the New Day attacking Karrion Kross. Final Testament’s presence honestly does not do anything for me at this point.

**********

– Backstage, Ricochet was helping Ilja Dragunov up when Breakker speared Dragunov through a production crate. Breakker and Ricochet fought their way to the parking lot, where Breakker lawndarted his foe into the side of the WWE production truck. Breakker lifted Ricochet up and hit a nasty powerslam onto the front windshield of a nearby car. As officials and referees shooed Breakker away, Ricochet was left writhing in pain.

– Following a replay of what happened before the break, returned to Ricochet being loaded onto an ambulance as fiancee Samantha Irvin looked on in tears. She joined Ricochet by his side in the ambulance as it left, apparently leaving us without a ring announcer for our main event.

Drew McIntyre versus Finn Balor (if McIntyre wins, Judgment Day is banned from ringside at Clash at the Castle)

As McIntyre entered, Pat McAfee volunteered to be the ring announcer, calling him “a big handsome bastard”. McAfee also introduced Finn Balor, announcing him as “representing the bum-ass Judgment Day”.

McIntryre tried for a slam on Balor, but he countered it into a takedown. An attempt at a bulldog was stopped by the sheer strength of McIntyre, who punched Balor out to the outside.

Balor drove McIntyre into the ringpost at ringside before smashing his taped-up arm against the post before he threw him back in the ring. Balor continued to go after McIntryre’s hurt arm before he got sent outside. Balor regained the advantage for a bit but he got dropped face-first into the apron by McIntyre. Balor unable to avoid calamity as McIntyre threw him over the announce table with a belly to belly throw as we went to our final commercial break of the evening.

Raw returned from break with McIntyre asserting himself against Balor right up until he got trapped in an armbar submission hold. McIntyre fought out of it as Balor continued the attack in the corner.

McIntyre caught Balor for an attempted powerslam, but he got reversed into a neckbreaker for the two-count. Balor once again applied the armbar, which forced McIntyre to lift him up for the powerbomb. McIntyre roared back with clotheslines and belly-to-belly throws, followed by the neckbreaker.

McIntyre kipped right back up and had Balor in his sights for the Claymore Kick. Balor countered it into a Slingblade, as he then flew over the ropes with a tope on the outside. Balor felled McIntyre with repeated dropkicks and looked to have him in position for the Coup De Grace. McIntyre stood himself back up and hit the Glasgow Kiss headbutt, followed by the superplex for the close two-count.

Future Shock DDT by McIntyre as he once again had Balor targeted. Damian Priest walked down the ramp, while Carlito & JD McDonagh tried to run interference. Balor hit his dropkicks and missed on the Coup De Grace, as McIntyre ended the match with a Claymore Kick to earn an even playing field for his World Title Match against Priest.

Raw concluded for the night with champion & challenger staring each other down.

**********

Great main event to cap off an entertaining Raw from start to finish. McIntyre winning this match was all but certain to remove Judgment Day from the equation, but, a certain Chicago native might have a chance to ruin the hometown hero’s big moment if he decides to show up on Saturday.

Raw’s midcard scene continues to be a key highlight as the Liv Morgan/Dominik Mysterio drama got some good developments this week, plus the story with Bron Breakker, Ilja Dragunov and Ricochet. With tonight apparently being Ricochet’s final appearance in WWE, look for that angle to turn into Dragunov attempting to avenge Ricochet as he goes after Breakker once again. The Chad Gable/Alpha Academy/Sami Zayn story looks like it’s going to reach a big moment on Saturday and I can’t wait for the payoff that’s been building for weeks.

Meanwhile, Uncle Howdy and the group being teased being QR codes is all but certain to make their debut next week on Raw, so it’ll be interesting to see where they fit in on the red brand in terms of story.

All in all, Clash at the Castle on paper seems to be a killer show and with WWE’s current momentum, it’s a show surely not to be missed.

Intercontinental title match added to WWE Clash at the Castle

Chad Gable is getting another Intercontinental title shot.

On Raw, Sami Zayn was in the ring when Maxxine Dupri, Akira Tozawa, and Otis came to the ring. Dupri read a note from Gable saying that he wouldn’t be there to confront Zayn and proceeded to ridicule the rest of Alpha Academy. After Gable mentioned he wanted another Intercontinental title match, Zayn agreed to defend the title against Gable at Clash at the Castle on June 15 if it meant ending the feud once and for all.

After Zayn accepted Gable’s challenge, Gable jumped him from behind. Zayn managed a comeback but during the brawl accidently hit the ropes, causing Dupri and Tozawa to fall off the apron and to the floor. Otis, conflicted, eventually blamed Zayn for the accident and laid him out with a forward slam.

Later backstage, Gable praised the rest of Alpha Academy for their work, ignoring that Tozawa and Dupri were hurt from the accident. Gable told Otis that he was proud of him and they would win the Intercontinental title together.

The lineup for Clash at the Castle so far:

  • World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest defends against Drew McIntyre
  • WWE Women’s Champion Bayley defends against Piper Niven
  • WWE Intercontinental title: Sami Zayn defends against Chad Gable

The Latest: Vince McMahon/Janel Grant suit, Sami Zayn on WWE title win chances

Welcome to another episode of The Latest with Denise Salcedo breaking down the biggest wrestling news headlines of the week so far.

On this episode of The Latest, Denise goes over the most recent news regarding the Vince McMahon and Janel Grant lawsuit, as Vince McMahon has responded to Janel Grant’s motion to strike comments. Additionally, Sami Zayn explains why a WWE World title reign was more likely to occur under the Vince McMahon era vs the Paul Levesque era. Lastly, to close out the video, King & Queen of the Ring tournament updates.

Sami Zayn thinks WWE World title reign may have been more likely in Vince McMahon era

For the booking of his character, Sami Zayn thinks the difference between Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Vince McMahon’s WWE creative processes is a double-edged sword.

Zayn told the Daily Mail that, with Levesque having more of a long-term vision, it might make it less likely that Zayn ever becomes a WWE World Champion. Zayn says McMahon had a more unpredictable week-to-week approach where someone could slip on a banana peel and end up holding the World title.

Still, Zayn is focused on doing his best and is hopeful that it will eventually get him to the World Championship:

Here’s how I see it. I think Hunter sees me differently from how Vince saw me, especially as a good guy.

I think Vince saw me much more as a bad guy, for a number of reasons. He saw my irksome qualities that he thought lent itself to being an irksome character. Having said that, I think things were a lot more unpredictable because of the nature of Vince’s week-to-week, kind of approach, that sometimes the marble would just fall in the right hole, and now you’re champion, whereas with Hunter, I think it’s much more he has longer-term vision, and if you’re not part of that vision, then the chances of breaking into that vision are much, much slimmer.

It’s kind of a double-edged sword. He might see me in a way that lends itself more to being in that mix and possibly winning it. But on the other hand, I could have just slipped on a banana peel and won the world title.

I just do my best. I just give the best performances I can give, I try to perform with as much emotion as possible and tell the best stories I can tell. And I hope that that eventually gets me there.

Winning the World Championship is a goal for Zayn, but it’s not something that he lives and dies by:

I’d like to win the world title once before I call it a day, there’s no question, but I don’t live and die by that. It’d be great, and I really appreciate people saying they’d love to see it. I’d love to see it too, and I hope it happens, but if it doesn’t, thank you just the same, because it’s been amazing.

Though Zayn has never been a World Champion on the WWE main roster, he does currently hold the Intercontinental title. Zayn won the championship by defeating Gunther at WrestleMania 40 last month. It put an end to Gunther’s historic 666-day reign as champion.

This was the first time in WWE history that McMahon had no involvement with WrestleMania. He resigned from WWE and its parent company TKO Group Holdings in January following the sexual abuse allegations made against him in Janel Grant’s lawsuit.

Zayn is defending the Intercontinental title against Chad Gable and Bronson Reed in a triple threat match at WWE King & Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, May 25. Before that, Zayn will face Gable in a non-title singles match on Raw next Monday.

Sami Zayn says it’s a ‘clean slate’ between him and CM Punk in WWE

With CM Punk back in WWE, it’s a clean slate between him and Sami Zayn.

Zayn was interviewed by Gorilla Position during WWE’s house show tour of the United Kingdom last week. In the conversation, Zayn was asked what his relationship with Punk has been like since Punk returned to WWE last November.

Though there’s been some “weird stuff” between them in the past, Zayn said it’s a clean slate now. They had a conversation about their previous issues when Punk made his WWE return.

Zayn told Gorilla Position:

I’ve known him a very, very long time. There have been some ups, there have been some downs. And he showed up and I was like, ‘Look, I just don’t want this to be weird. So, like, you know, say whatever you need to say. Say your piece.’ I said my piece. And like, clean slate. That’s it.

You know what I mean? You just can’t walk around harboring resentment. Because I just don’t want him to walk by and be like a black cloud. Like, I work here, you know what I mean? Or vice versa. I don’t want him to see me and go [groans]. Hey, whatever happened, cards on the table, let’s just, ‘Clean slate? Good? Good? Ok.’

And that’s it. That’s how I approach, I guess not just him but life. I’ve found in my experience it’s kind of exhausting to hate people [laughs]. The only person who’s mad is you, you know what I mean? They’re just walking around but you’re the one all of a sudden under a cloud of negativity. So I just don’t want that cloud. So has there been some weird stuff between us in the past? Sure. I think 90 percent of people you ask about Punk would probably say the same. But as far as I’m concerned, hey, we gotta work together, you’re here, you’ve been through a lot in your life, let’s just clean slate, start over, and, you know, whatever. That’s it.

Zayn’s friend Kevin Owens also had issues with Punk dating back to when Punk and Owens were in ROH together earlier in their careers.

A Punk vs. Zayn match has never taken place. They were both entrants in the Royal Rumble earlier this year, where Punk suffered a torn triceps. Punk is eligible to be selected in the 2024 WWE Draft despite his injury. He’ll be appearing on both nights of the draft.

Because he’s the Intercontinental Champion, Zayn isn’t eligible to be drafted. He’ll be remaining on the Raw roster. Zayn is currently feuding with both Chad Gable and Bronson Reed.

Chad Gable turns heel on WWE Raw, attacks Sami Zayn

Chad Gable has turned on Sami Zayn.

After Zayn defeated Gable in the main event of WWE Raw, Gable raised Zayn’s hand and left the ring as Zayn celebrated his win in his home city of Montreal. As he was hugging his wife at ringside, however, Gable took him down from behind with a German suplex and continued to attack Zayn. Raw came to a close as Gable had Zayn’s leg wrapped up in the turnbuckle, clinching in an ankle lock.

In the build to WrestleMania 40, Gable offered to train Zayn in his match against Gunther after Zayn defeated Gable in a gauntlet match to become the number one contender. At WrestleMania, Zayn ended Gunther’s historic run with the Intercontinental title, pinning him to become the new champion. On the Raw after WrestleMania, Zayn and Gable teamed up to defeat Ludwig Kaiser & Giovanni Vinci of Imperium.

Following their match, Zayn acknowledged that he owed Gable and said he would defend his title against Gable in Montreal.

WWE Raw live results: Sami Zayn vs. Chad Gable IC title match

Date: April 15, 2024
Location: Bell Centre in Montréal, QC

Show Recap —

Sami Zayn, Damian Priest, Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso were shown arriving throughout the day.

Rhea Ripley relinquishes the Women’s World Championship

Ripley entered with her right arm in a sling and a sour look on her face. Adam Pearce was in the ring too. Ripley announced she would be stuck on the bench for quite a few months after Liv Morgan’s attack last week.

Ripley was pissed because she was told she would have to vacate the world championship. The crowd chanted “Bullsh*t” and Ripley agreed. Ripley said the title meant the most to her which is what made this so painful. She laid the belt down on the mat. The crowd chanted, “Thank you, Mami,” as she looked angrily at the camera.

Ripley blamed this on Morgan’s stupid little revenge tour. Ripley might’ve had respect for Morgan if she attacked her face-to-face but instead, she did it like a coward. Ripley had a warning for whoever held her title when she returned: she was coming back for blood. Ripley said they’d have to lock her up in Montréal jail if she saw Morgan tonight.

Morgan entered with a smile on her face as about six security guards tried stopping her from going to the ring. Ripley wanted them to let her go but security got between them. Morgan left and Ripley headbutted a guard to the ground.

********

The WWE Draft will begin on the April 26th Smackdown and continue on the April 29th Raw.

Judgment Day embraced Ripley in the back. The crowd applauded. Damian Priest said Ripley would come back and make Morgan regret what she did and she’d come back more badass than ever. Ripley thanked them and left.

********

Michael Cole announced an attendance of 15,118. He also spoke about Ivar’s appearance on NXT.

Sheamus defeated Ivar (8:17)

There were chants of “Welcome back” and “Let’s go Sheamus.” Sheamus hit a big White Noise off the middle rope which popped the crowd. He didn’t go for a cover because this led to an early commercial break instead.

Sheamus hit a powerslam and Ten Beats of the Bodhrán but Ivar dropped him with a roundhouse kick and a splash off the top for two. Ivar tried a springboard crossbody but Sheamus hit a knee strike. Sheamus hit another knee and a Brogue Kick for the pinfall win.

The crowd popped for the win. A sweaty Sheamus put his arms around Cole and Pat McAfee in celebration.

There was a video package for tonight’s IC title match.

Truth and Miz segment with Triple H

Paul “Triple H” Levesque entered to a big reaction with Pearce already in the ring. This gave Cole another opportunity to talk about the “Triple H Era.” McAfee said Triple H was “terrorizing” (Terra Ryzing) the record books. The ring was carpeted and there were a pair of title belts under a cover. HHH spoke about WrestleMania before Pearce called out the new Raw tag team champions.

R-Truth and Miz entered and we got ourselves another “You deserve it” chant. The crowd chanted for Truth who did the splits. HHH congratulated them and said it was awesome seeing Truth get a WrestleMania moment.

HHH said it was a new era and they needed to represent the tag division appropriately. He announced that they would now be known as the “World Tag Team Champions” (to match the other Raw titles). HHH revealed the new tag title belts which are gold (with a black strap) and resemble the other world titles.

Truth freaked out as if HHH just did a magic trick. There was some silly comedy with Truth thinking HHH was actually Tommaso Ciampa. Miz spoke French and explained to him that the new belts were theirs. HHH handed them belts and left. Pearce was oddly upset that Truth’s antics made HHH leave. Anyway, he announced a triple threat match to determine the next challengers.

This segment felt like it belonged in the previous era.

********

The screen “glitched” as New Day entered and a QR code appeared briefly.

Triple Threat Match: Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa defeated The Creed Brothers and Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods (10:30)

New Day wiped out everyone with dives ahead of an early break.

[SECOND HOUR]

Everyone traded moves shortly after a break until Ciampa with Kingston with Project Ciampa for a nearfall. Woods tagged in and hit a tornado DDT. Woods gave Gargano the Honor Roll clothesline and knocked down Brutus Creed with a forearm.

New Day double-teamed Ciampa but Julius Creed broke up the cover and handed out suplexes to Woods, Kingston, Ciampa and Gargano. The Creeds each hit double Northern Lights suplexes for two counts. Julius gave Kingston a superplex but Woods hit Julius with a flying elbow drop. As he went for a cover, DIY hit Woods with Meet in the Middle for the pinfall win.

DIY earned a tag title match with the win.

********

Jackie Redmond attempted to interview Drew McIntyre after showing a replay of CM Punk costing McIntyre his match last week. McIntyre booted the screen and stormed off.

Candice LeRae & Indi Hartwell defeated Maxxine Dupri & Ivy Nile (3:35)

Hartwell cheated and is now on the same page as LeRae.

Dupri gave Hartwell a flying crossbody and a fisherman’s suplex for two. Dupri distracted herself by confronting LeRae which allowed Hartwell to drop her and tag in LeRae. Dupri fought back with a DDT.

Dupri tagged out but the referee didn’t see it because Hartwell distracted him. As the ref told Nile to get back on the apron, Hartwell (not the legal person) booted Dupri behind his back. Hartwell dragged LeRae into a cover and they picked up the win. (Hartwell also held back Nile so she couldn’t break up the cover.)

********

There was a Damian Priest video package.

Judgment Day were in the back. Dominik and JD McDonagh were upset but Priest reminded them that they still ran WWE. He urged Dom to teach Andrade a lesson and told McDonagh to have his back.

Finn Bálor thought they should focus on getting the tag titles back but he had to wrestle Jey Uso tonight. Priest told him to focus on tonight and teach Jey the meaning of the word “loss.” Priest would teach Jey the meaning of the word “pain” at Backlash. Priest asked Bálor if he was good with that and Bálor agreed.

********

Chad Gable was shown training with the Creed Brothers in the arena earlier this afternoon. Redmond interviewed him and asked him what it would be like to face Zayn in Montréal.

Gable said he made the Olympic team as a Minnesota guy in Iowa. Not one person in that building wanted him to win but he did and he planned on doing the same thing tonight. He knew exactly how to expose Zayn.

********

Andrade defeated Dominik Mysterio (w/JD McDonagh) (8:40)

This was another match that went to an early break. Andrade fought back after a break but he missed a moonsault. Dom gave him a Canadian Destroyer on the apron which led to a two count. Dom went for a 619 but Andrade dropped him with a back elbow. Andrade knocked McDonagh off the apron and hit Dom with The Message for the pinfall win.

— McDonagh attacked Andrade after the match but Ricochet ran out to make the save.

The crowd was quiet for this. They’ve been mostly quiet for the matches tonight aside from Sheamus’ return.

********

Cathy Kelley interviewed Jey Uso and asked him about Tama Tonga attacking Jimmy Uso. Jey was earnest and said he told Jimmy to come with him. However, Jey had to focus on Bálor tonight and said he would receive a Yeet-down.

********

Piper Niven & Chelsea Green defeated Kayden Carter & Katana Chance (2:15)

There was a cool spot where Carter had Green on her shoulders and Chance leaped off the rope, jumped off of Green’s back and tried a flying crossbody but Niven caught her and hit a fallaway slam. Niven gave Carter a running crossbody and Green made the cover for the pinfall win.

The crowd was (understandably) quiet for this too.

********

Cody Rhodes is up next.

********

Kelley interviewed Liv Morgan in the back. She was booed. Morgan was confused by the reaction. Everyone in the back was mad at her but she wasn’t the bad guy. She wondered where this sympathy was for her with Ripley injured her shoulder. Morgan called it karma at its finest. Morgan said her revenge tour wasn’t over. It only ended with her as world champion.

[THIRD HOUR]

Cody Rhodes segment

The crowd woke up for Rhodes who received a very big reaction. Rhodes asked the crowd, “de quoi veux-tu parler.” They cheered. He thanked Pearce for allowing him to appear on Raw despite representing Smackdown. He mentioned his next challenger would be LA Knight (who was cheered) and AJ Styles (who was booed).

He thanked Seth Rollins for being his shield at WrestleMania. The crowd cheered and chanted, “Thank you, Seth.”

Rhodes moved on to The Rock. Rhodes said it was news to him how much training Rock did ahead of Mania. He figured Rock had more than one more match left in him. Rhodes said Rock was probably right when he said he would make him bleed again. “But if I’m going to bleed, you’re going to bleed with me.”

Rhodes spoke about the Bloodline. He found it interesting that Roman Reigns was nowhere to be found on Smackdown while supposedly making the orders to Tama Tonga.

Rhodes introduced Jey Uso who also received a big reaction. Rhodes said Jey was the number one contender. Raw was about to be his and nobody deserved it more. Jey helped him finish his story at Mania and he wanted to have Jey’s back tonight because he knew Judgment Day wouldn’t be far away.

Jey appreciated that but told Rhodes he wanted to do it on his own. Jey liked the sound of World Heavyweight Champion Main Event Jey Uso. Rhodes understood Jey wanted to do it on his own and wished him luck.

Rhodes was about to leave but couldn’t do so without saying “Yeet.”

********

Kelley interviewed Nia Jax. Jax didn’t give a damn about Ripley. She didn’t think anyone in the division could stop her from winning the title. She took care of Morgan and Becky Lynch the last time she saw each of them. There were two types of people on the planet: those who fear Nia Jax and those who learn to fear Nia Jax. The title was hers.

********

Jey Uso defeated Finn Bálor (9:12)

Bálor’s music hit but he attacked Jey from behind and put the boots to him. The ref quickly checked on Jey before starting the match.

This match also went to an early commercial break. Only the two women’s matches did not go to an early break, but the total time of those matches is shorter than every men’s match so far.

Jey fought back after the break. Bálor raked his eyes and set up for a dropkick but he ran into a superkick. Bálor avoided an Uso Splash and dropkicked Jey into the corner. Jey avoided a Coup de Grace and hit a spear and Uso Splash for the pinfall win.

— Priest entered the ring and had a staredown with Jey. McDonagh and Dom attacked Jey from behind and Priest was annoyed with them. Bálor got in Priest’s face and said something before joining the attack.

Jey fought them off after superkicking Dom. He chucked McDonagh into Bálor and left through the crowd. (Priest never joined the fight.)

— The camera stayed on Jey as he walked up through the concourse. He slapped hands with fans and left the arena through the front door where he ran into Sami Zayn (who got a big pop).

Zayn stood outside and was looking up at the Bell Centre. Jey asked what he was looking at. Zayn said the first show he ever saw was in this building 25 years ago and now he was returning as champion. Zayn wanted to enter the building the same way he did back then, right through the front door.

The camera followed Zayn as he marched through the concourse. He was all pumped up as the fans cheered him on. Zayn made an awesome entrance through the crowd as they went nuts and sang his songs.

I feel like this was an all-time great entrance on Raw.

********

Next week on Raw:

  • A new Women’s champion is crowned
  • R-Truth & Miz vs. DIY for the tag titles
  • Andrade & Ricochet vs. Dominik Mysterio & JD McDonagh

********

Bronson Reed confronted Chad Gable in Gorilla before he could enter. Reed warned him that whoever won tonight wouldn’t be champion for long.

Sami Zayn defeated Chad Gable to retain the Intercontinental Championship (17:12)

Zayn had the early upper hand and the two men faced off as they went to break a minute into the match. Gable was in control after the break. He hit a dive to the outside and a diving headbutt in the ring for two. Zayn’s wife Khadijah was shown in the front row.

Gable targeted Zayn’s leg but Zayn fired back with a clothesline. Gable reversed an exploder into a cradle for two. Gable applied an ankle lock but Zayn knocked him outside the ring and followed with a springboard moonsault.

After a break, Gable hit an Angle Slam off the top. Gable followed with consecutive German suplexes but Zayn followed with two German suplexes of his own. Gable switched and hit another German so Zayn did the same. They countered each other over and over until Zayn suplexed Gable right on his head. (This looked bad but Gable continued.)

Zayn hit an exploder in the corner and went for Helluva Kick but Gable picked his leg and applied an ankle lock. Zayn countered out of it and hit a powerbomb. Zayn went for a Sharpshooter but he fell over because his ankle was hurt.

Gable avoided the Helluva Kick again and gave Zayn a German suplex into the middle rope. Gable applied the ankle lock again but Zayn eventually reversed into a cradle for two. Zayn gave Gable another exploder into the buckles and followed with Helluva Kick for the pinfall win.

— Zayn laid the title belt down and Gable was in tears. Zayn helped him to his feet and Gable lifted his arm. Gable left.

Zayn embraced his wife and his family in the front row when Gable suddenly grabbed him and hit a German suplex (outside the ring). Gable tossed Zayn around ringside and over the announce table. He shoved Zayn into the ring post and applied the ankle lock while standing on the ropes. Zayn tapped against the apron as officials tried stopping Gable. Gable held the ankle lock as the show went off the air.

The match and post-match were all really good.
