Brian Cage wins ROH Television title at AEW WrestleDream Zero Hour

A new ROH Television champion has been crowned.

Brian Cage defeated Atlantis Jr. to win the ROH Television Championship for the first time. In what ended up being a competitive match, Atlantis Jr. got a close near fall after countering the drill claw once. However, Cage rallied and pinned Atlantis after a second drill claw attempt to pick up the win.

Atlantis Jr. won the ROH TV title in June at a CMLL event in Mexico City, defeating Kyle Fletcher. At Death Before Dishonor the following month, he retained the title in a Survival of the Fittest match, which also included Brian Cage. In a match on Ring of Honor television in August, the Cage of Agony defeated Atlantis Jr. in a six-man tag match that also featured Fuego Del Sol and Serpentico.

Cage of Agony have mostly competed in Ring of Honor in recent months. Earlier this year Cage and the Gates of Agony turned on Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana, breaking up The Mogul Embassay for good. At All In two months ago, they teamed wth The Undisputed Kingdom (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) in a losing effort against Dustin Rhodes, Katsuyori Shibata, Sammy Guevara, and Ross & Marshall Von Erich.

ROH TV title changes hands at CMLL Arena Mexico show

To kickstart Forbidden Door weekend, a Ring of Honor title changed hands at a CMLL event on Friday night.

Atlantis Jr. defeated Kyle Fletcher at Arena Mexico to win the ROH Television title. Fletcher had been champion since December 2023 and made seven successful defenses during his reign.

It looks like we’ll be seeing a rematch between Atlantis Jr. and Fletcher in the near future. After their match, Fletcher challenged Atlantis Jr. to face him again on Fletcher’s home turf.

Death Before Dishonor 2024 on Friday, July 26 is ROH’s next pay-per-view. ROH has not announced if that’s where the Atlantis Jr. vs. Fletcher rematch will be taking place.

“Despite CMLL stars appearing on ROH events officially as representatives of the company as early as 2015, this is the first time a CMLL star has won ROH gold while under contract with CMLL while the opposite has occurred once (Matt Taven) to my recollection,” ROH commentator Ian Riccaboni tweeted.

AEW and CMLL began working together in late 2023 and now have a close partnership. For the first time ever, CMLL will be part of AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door this Sunday (June 30). The PPV is being held in Long Island, New York.

Also at Friday night’s CMLL show, Chris Jericho made a surprise appearance and attacked Mistico, setting up a match between the two that will take place at Arena Mexico.

Survival of the Fittest match to determine new TV Champion at ROH Final Battle

A Survival of the Fittest match will determine the next ROH TV Champion at Final Battle.

On Thursday’s Ring of Honor show, Tony Khan announced that qualifying matches will take place over the next several weeks on Ring of Honor television. Six people will qualify for the Survival of the Fittest elimination match that will take place at Final Battle on December 15. The winner of that match will become the new Television champion.

Two weeks ago on AEW Dynamite, Samoa Joe had successfully defended the title against Keith Lee. He then vacated the title, saying that he was going to fully focus on winning MJF’s AEW World Championship. He had held the title for 574 days, becoming the longest-reigning ROH Television Champion of all time.

ROH has held the Survival of the Fittest tournament since 2004, when Bryan Danielson became the first Survival of the Fittest winner. The most recent tournament in 2021 had Bandido win the tournament. He later defeated Rush to win the ROH World Championship.

Samoa Joe vacates ROH Television title on AEW Dynamite

Samoa Joe has vacated the ROH Television title.

After defeating Keith Lee on Wednesday’s Dynamite, Joe relinquished the title, leaving it in the middle of the ring. He called out MJF, saying that the next title on his shoulder would be the AEW World Championship.

Joe had held the ROH Television title for 575 days, the longest reign in the title’s history. He defeated Minoru Suzuki on the April 12, 2022 edition of Dynamite. Suzuki had defeated Rhett Titus for the title on April 1 at Supercard of Honor, the first ROH show booked by Tony Khan following his purchase of the company.

MJF defeated Joe at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam back in September to retain the AEW World Championship. Despite the loss, Joe has continued to pursue MJF in an effort to gain another championship match, going as far as to offer to have MJF’s back during a recent AEW World Championship match against Kenny Omega.

Joe had successfully defended the Television title in recent weeks, defeating the likes of Willie Mack, Tony Nese, and former champion Rhett Titus.

Samoa Joe ROH TV title defense set for AEW Collision

A new title match has been confirmed for this Saturday’s AEW Collision.

AEW has announced that Samoa Joe will defend his ROH Television title against Willie Mack on Collision this Saturday night (October 14). Mack, who regularly competes for ROH, will be wrestling on AEW television for the second time ever.

Mack lost to Brian Cage on an episode of Rampage this January. He’s also had three matches on AEW Dark/Dark: Elevation in the past.

Joe has made 14 successful title defenses since becoming ROH Television Champion. He defeated Minoru Suzuki for the title in April 2022.

At Dynamite Grand Slam last month, Joe unsuccessfully challenged MJF for the AEW World Championship. In recent vignettes, Joe has said he’s still focused on winning the AEW World title. Joe stated that his ascension toward greatness begins on Collision this Saturday.
