Angelico to face Eddie Kingston for ROH World Championship

Eddie Kingston’s next Ring of Honor World Championship challenger is set following this week’s ROH TV.

After a Proving Ground match on this week’s episode where Kingston defeated Serpentico, Angelico stepped forward to challenge Kingston to a future title match. Kingston accepted the challenge, and the match is set for a date yet to be announced.

Kingston defeated Claudio Castagnoli in a double title match where Kingston’s NJPW Strong Openweight Championship was also on the line at Dynamite Grand Slam on September 20. He has since successfully defended the ROH title against Katsuyori Shibata, Komander, and Minoru Suzuki.

Angelico has a 1-3 record in singles matches in AEW & ROH this year, with his first singles victory coming on Thursday’s ROH TV episode against Marty Casaus. As a part of the Spanish Announce Project tag team, Angelico has a 3-9 record in tag and trios bouts in ROH & AEW this year.

Elsewhere in ROH, a singles match between Tony Nese and Ethan Page is official for the Thursday, October 19  episode after the events of this week’s show. Mark Sterling offered Page a spot in Nese’s Premier Athlete brand, but Page declined and challenged Nese to a match instead.

Sterling’s client Josh Woods will also be in action on next week’s show in a Pure Rules match against Pat Buck.

Next week’s announced card:

Ring of Honor TV, Thursday, October 19 —

  • Ethan Page vs. Tony Nese
  • Pure Rules match: Josh Woods vs. Pat Buck

ROH World title match announced for Death Before Dishonor

The Ring of Honor World Championship will be on the line at Death Before Dishonor on Friday, July 21.

As revealed during this week’s Ring of Honor TV episode, Claudio Castagnoli will defend his ROH World title against Mark Briscoe at the Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view.

In a promo segment during this week’s episode, presumed top contender Eddie Kingston announced that he would not be at Death Before Dishonor due to competing in NJPW’s G1 Climax 33 tournament. Kingston then encouraged Mark Briscoe to challenge Castagnoli for the title.

In a follow-up interview with Renee Paquette, Briscoe said that he would step up and follow in the footsteps of his late brother Jay, a former ROH World Champion. Castagnoli then entered and accepted the match, sealing the deal with a handshake with Briscoe.

The ROH title match is the first bout official for the Friday, July 21 pay-per-view.

Eddie Kingston challenges Claudio Castagnoli to ROH World title match

Eddie Kingston has issued a challenge to Ring of Honor World Champion Claudio Castagnoli.

Appearing on this week’s ROH TV episode, Kingston issued the challenge to Castagnoli following Claudio’s main event World title defense against AR Fox. Kingston stated that he had promised Jon Moxley that he would not fight Castagnoli in AEW, but that this was not AEW.

Castagnoli ignored the challenge from Kingston, but Castagnoli vs. Kingston at Supercard of Honor on March 31 appears to be the direction for the World title program.

Kingston’s challenge aired one day after an angle on AEW’s Twitter account where Kingston “quit” AEW. Kingston wrestled on both days of ROH’s television tapings last weekend in Orlando.

Kingston’s most recent match on AEW television aired on the January 13 edition of Rampage, where he teamed with Ortiz against Malakai Black and Brody King. Prior to that contest, Kingston’s last televised singles match was on the Full Gear Zero Hour pre-show on November 19, 2022. His last singles match on Dynamite aired on November 9, 2022, where he dropped an AEW World title eliminator tournament bout to Ethan Page.
