Wrestling Observer Live: WWE SummerSlam fallout, Ric Flair’s Last Match

I am back with another Sunday edition of Wrestling Observer Live, joined this week by Mat Men partner Rich Stambolian.

WWE SummerSlam was Saturday and Triple H’s influence was evident across the board including big returns by Edge, Bayley and Dakota Kai with Io Shirai debuting under a new name.

Also, Logan Paul is a star and overperformed, The Street Profits might be breaking up, and Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns put on one of the biggest spectacles in the last man standing main event.

Tonight is the Ric Flair’s Last Match pay-per-view so we run through the card and give thoughts on what to expect from Flair tonight. Plus, we reminisce on Flair’s career and answer the question of why he will always be the greatest of all time.

Now that Vince McMahon has resigned from WWE, there was a lot of fallout this week, including Paul “Triple H” Levesque being named head of creative and WWE announcing the rewriting of financial statements to account for McMahon’s hush money payments.

SummerSlam is this Saturday and we run down the card and give our predictions. We also speculate what big moments might happen knowing HHH is booking the show.

ROH Death Before Dishonor was last Saturday when Claudio Castagnoli won their world championship from Jonathan Gresham…who then asked for his release after the show. We discuss the fallout and what it means for Gresham going forward.

AEW Dynamite focused a lot on getting younger talents over, including Jungle Boy and Ricky Starks both giving career-altering promos. We also look at the possibility of guys maybe wanting to go back to WWE now that leadership has changed.
