Two matches announced for ‘Ric Flair’s Last Match’ event

Jim Crockett Promotions and Starrcast have announced two matches for the undercard of Ric Flair’s Last Match.

Impact World Champion Josh Alexander will defend his title against Jacob Fatu on the show. A match pitting The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) and The Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) was announced by Conrad Thompson as well.

Starrcast would later reveal that NJPW will take part in the event as well, although it is not clear in what capacity the promotion will be involved.

A press conference for the event was held in Nashville on Thursday with Flair, David Crockett, Jeff Jarrett and Nashville Deputy Mayor Brenda Haywood in attendance. Further details regarding Flair’s match on the show were not revealed, however.

Flair was asked if he was able to drop any hints as to who might be in the ring with him that night.

“I can’t because I’m not booking it. I’m truly not. My heart is invested in this and I’m just thankful for the opportunity,” Flair responded.

He was also asked what he would look for in a potential opponent.

“Someone that can wrestle, that can work. Doesn’t have to be a big name, doesn’t have to be anybody, just somebody who can work.”

“There’s a lot of talent out there that should be wrestling and they are not, who knows why?”

It was also revealed that in honor of his son Reid, Flair’s retirement robe will be raffled with proceeds benefiting The First Step Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping people recover from addiction.

Nashville Deputy Mayor Brenda Haywood announced that July 31 will officially be “Ric Flair Day” in the city.

Ric Flair’s Last Match will take place Sunday, July 31 from the Nashville Municipal Auditorium as part of Starrcast V. It will air live on FITE TV.

Ric Flair’s ‘last match’ moving to bigger venue

Ric Flair’s “last match” is being moved to a bigger venue.

It was announced via Sports Illustrated today that “Jim Crockett Promotions Presents: Ric Flair’s Last Match” will now be held at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium. The show is taking place on Sunday, July 31 and will air live on Fite TV.

With the event originally set to be held at the Nashville Fairgrounds, tickets sold out in under 24 hours after going on sale last month. Tickets that have already been purchased will be honored in the same location at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.

Additional tickets for the show will go on sale this Friday at noon Eastern time.

“The Nashville Municipal Auditorium’s 9,000-seat capacity nearly triples the Fairgrounds,” Sports Illustrated wrote. “Interest to see the 73-year-old Flair wrestle another match necessitated the change in venue, which is remarkable considering Flair’s opponent—or opponents if this is a tag, which is expected—has yet to be announced.”

This will be the first time Flair has wrestled since 2011.

Original plans called for Flair to team with FTR against Ricky Steamboat & The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express in a six-man tag team match at July’s event, but Steamboat said that he declined an offer to participate in the match.

The Nashville Municipal Auditorium was the host of the final match in Flair and Steamboat’s famed 1989 trilogy.

“Jim Crockett Promotions Presents: Ric Flair’s Last Match” is taking place in conjunction with Starrcast V in Nashville. There will be an undercard for the show, but those matches also have yet to be announced.

Tony Schiavone & David Crockett to call Ric Flair’s ‘last match’

The commentary team for Ric Flair’s “last match” has now been revealed.

Starrcast announced today that Tony Schiavone & David Crockett will return to the Jim Crockett Promotions broadcast booth to call Flair’s final match on Sunday, July 31. The match is being held at the Nashville Fairgrounds in conjunction with Starrcast V.

“Jim Crockett Promotions Presents: Ric Flair’s Last Match” is the name of the event. It’s being broadcast live as a pay-per-view on Fite TV.

This will be the first time that the 73-year-old Flair has wrestled since 2011.

Flair’s opponents for the match have yet to be officially announced. It was expected that Flair & FTR would face Ricky Steamboat & The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express in a six-man tag match, but Steamboat declined the offer to take part in the match.

“I thought about it for a week and just recently declined on it. I know when I wrestled [Chris] Jericho at WrestleMania 25 and then we had the return match at Backlash in a singles. At 69, and I know it’s a six-man tag and I can get a little this and that in, but with all due respect to our fans, I want them to remember me that last time I was in there with Jericho when they chanted, ‘You still got it!’ I don’t want to scar that phrase,” Steamboat said.

Flair told TMZ Sports that he spoke with 40 different doctors about doing the return match.

“I don’t have any aches or pains. I know I’ve had the health issues, but I asked 40 different doctors, and I decided I’m only gonna listen to one,” Flair said. “Not necessarily the one that was gonna give me the right answer, but that I felt the most comfortable with.”

Tickets for Flair’s last match went on sale today. Standing-room-only tickets are all that’s still available.

Report: Ricky Steamboat to take part in Ric Flair’s final match

One of the most iconic rivalries in pro wrestling history is expected to be renewed when Ric Flair makes his return to the ring this summer.

Fightful reported on Monday that the plan is for Flair and Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat to face off in a tag team match at “Jim Crockett Promotions Presents: Ric Flair’s Last Match” on Sunday, July 31.

Dave Meltzer reported last week that it was rumored Flair & FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) would be facing The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) and someone else.

That someone else will apparently be Steamboat.

The report said while the match isn’t finalized, it’s been in the cards for Starrcast for several weeks and that Conrad Thompson met with Steamboat in person recently. Fightful also reported that Tony Khan hasn’t signed off on FTR’s inclusion yet and that it’s “far from a done deal.”

This would be the 73-year-old Flair’s first match since 2011 and the 69-year-old Steamboat’s first match since 2010.

Flair and Steamboat’s 1989 trilogy is widely regarded as having produced three of the greatest matches in pro wrestling history.

“Jim Crockett Promotions Presents: Ric Flair’s Last Match” is taking place at the Nashville Fairgrounds in Nashville, Tennessee. The show, which is in conjunction with Starrcast V, will air live on Fite TV.

Starrcast V is happening in Nashville on the same weekend as WWE SummerSlam.
