According to Fightful, WWE sources believe that Renee Paquette will soon be working with AEW.
GiveMeSport’s Louis Dangoor also reported he was told WWE had made inquiries to Paquette (Renee Young in WWE) about her interest in returning to their company.
As of yet, we have yet to confirm either report and she, nor the company, have commented publicly.
AEW announced Friday that Paquette’s husband, AEW World Champion Jon Moxley, signed a five-year extension and will increase his role to include mentorship and coaching to other wrestlers.
After nearly eight years in the company, Paquette left WWE in August 2020 and was under an unpaid non-compete for a year. During her time there, she was an on-air host and a color commentator for WWE Raw among other jobs.
Since then, she launched a podcast (The Sessions) that was picked up by The Volume, released a cookbook, launched a SiriusXM show with UFC fighter Miesha Tate, started an online series with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals, and welcomed her and Jon’s first child to the family.
Renee Paquette is joining SiriusXM for a weekly combat sports and pro wrestling show with UFC fighter Miesha Tate, beginning Monday.
Paquette made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday. The weekly show will air from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time beginning on Monday, September 13.
In addition to the weekly show with Tate, Paquette announced that she will also be joining SiriusXM’s Busted Open show as a special contributor “from time to time” for a segment called “Keeping it Real with Renee.”
Busted Open is hosted by Dave LaGreca, Bully Ray, Mark Henry, Tommy Dreamer and Ryan McKinnell.
Paquette said on Twitter that she will continue to do her Oral Sessions podcast with The Volume Sports in addition to her new roles with SiriusXM.
Paquette said on Twitter that she will continue to do her Oral Sessions podcast with The Volume Sports in addition to her new roles with SiriusXM.
Paquette left WWE where she worked as on-air personality Renee Young in August 2020 after seven-plus years with the company. Paquette was under an employee contract rather than an independent contractor deal and was subject to a lengthy non-compete. Paquette stated in an interview last month that the non-compete with WWE was nearly up.
Her cookbook, Messy In The Kitchen: My Guide to Eating Deliciously, Hosting Fabulously and Sipping Copiously, was published in May 2021. Paquette and husband Jon Moxley welcomed their first child, Nora, in June 2021.
Paquette’s podcast Oral Sessions will be part of The Volume where she will interview various personalities in pro wrestling, MMA and pop culture. Her first podcast under Cowherd’s new venture will launch Thursday with UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.
As part of the deal, Paquette will be a guest on Cowherd’s podcast around major WWE, AEW and UFC shows. The two have known each other dating back to 2012 when she auditioned for ESPN SportsNation which Cowherd was a co-host on.
Former WWE personality Renee Paquette and AEW World Champion Jon Moxley are expecting their first child, announced by Moxley during a promo on Wednesday’s edition of Dynamite.
The two began dating in 2013 when both worked for WWE, getting married in April 2017.
Just this week, Paquette announced that her new podcast, Oral Sessions, will debut on November 24th. She also has a forthcoming cookbook, Messy In The Kitchen, that drops this May.
Paquette made her on-screen WWE debut in November 2012 and worked for the company until August of this year with her last official appearance coming on the SummerSlam pre-show. She did return to host the Fox Sports pre-show for the SmackDown season premiere on October 16th.
In addition to working for WWE, Paquette hosted WWE Backstage for Fox Sports.
Moxley signed a WWE developmental contract in 2011 and worked for the company until April 2019. He debuted for AEW on May 25, 2019, at Double or Nothing, winning the World title at February’s Revolution.
Renee Paquette, formerly known as WWE’s Renee Young, announced a release date for her forthcoming cookbook today.
“Messy In The Kitchen: My Guide to Eating Deliciously, Hosting Fabulously, and Drinking Copiously” will be available on May 18, 2021. It was made available for pre-order today on Amazon.
Paquette took to her Instagram account today and shared some of the process of bringing the book to life:
“The love, attention, focus, and butter that went into making this cookbook was such an insane experience,” she wrote.
“As a first time author, and merely a home cook, I respect the hell out of the process of making a book. This is the first project in a VERY long time that’s MINE. My writing, my ideas, my recipes. This project comes from my heart, and it means so much to me! I can’t wait to see it in your homes and see you guys cooking up all of these delicious recipes (yes, poutine) or hey- you might even just enjoy the sassy, swear word filled pages, the wine consumed, or just the photos. Thanks anyone that adds to cart. Hopefully we can all get together soon in person and celebrate!”
Messy In The Kitchen will contain more than 60 recipes for meals and cocktails. The pre-order page describes the book as “A cookbook for quirky home cooks looking to impress friends and family with a fancy meal, delicious cocktails, and intoxicating conversation.”
“Holy shit!!! I can’t even believe this is a real thing. I legit have tears in my eyes… So much love and work and endless cooking and re-testing of recipes, but the pre-order is available for my cookbook Messy In The Kitchen. Follow your dreams, y’all”
Paquette revealed on her Instagram account on July 1 that she had handed off the manuscript for the then-untitled cookbook to her publisher. On an appearance on WWE’s The Bump on August 26, Paquette announced the book’s name and a likely Spring 2021 release date.
After a six year stint with the company, Paquette departed WWE in August. She made an appearance on Fox’s pre-show for the season premiere of SmackDown on October 16.
Though she departed the company in August, Renee Paquette (formerly known as Renee Young in WWE) will be making an appearance on WWE-related programming this month.
Fox Sports announced today that Paquette and Booker T will host a pre-show for the Friday, October 16 episode of SmackDown. The special pre-show will be 30 minutes long and will air on Fox starting at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time.
The pre-show ties in with the October 16 episode of SmackDown being called the start of the second season of SmackDown on Fox. It will also be the first episode of SmackDown following this year’s WWE Draft.
“In celebration of the second season of FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN on FOX, FOX Sports’ WWE personalities come together for a special FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN KICKOFF SHOW on Friday, Oct. 16,” Fox Sports announced. “Longtime broadcaster Renee Paquette and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T host a bevy of WWE Superstars and special guests live from the brand new ‘WWE ThunderDome’ in Orlando.
“The FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN KICKOFF SHOW begins at 7:30 PM ET/PT and 6:30 PM CT/MT, leading into the season premiere of FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN on FOX at 8:00 PM ET/PT and 7:00 PM CT/MT.”
This year’s WWE Draft will begin on SmackDown this Friday and conclude on Monday’s episode of Raw.
Fox Sports has also announced that a WWE’s Best Moments of 2020 special will air on Fox this Sunday (October 11). The special “airs adjacent to Sunday’s regional NFL broadcasts airing in-market at 1:00 PM ET and 4:05 PM ET. Viewers with an NFL matchup airing at 1:00 PM ET can watch WWE: THE BEST MOMENTS OF 2020 at 4:30 PM ET; viewers with an NFL matchup airing at 4:05 PM ET can watch the special at 3:00 PM ET.”
In her first appearance since her departure from WWE, the former Renee Young discussed her first week out of the company, her experience having COVID-19 this summer, and how the company’s reaction to her announcing the news didn’t go over well internally or with her personally.
Now going by Renee Paquette, she was a guest on the Sports Illustrated Media Podcast and was asked by host Jimmy Traina about the rumors WWE weren’t happy with her decision to go public. She said she likes to be transparent about things and there’s no shame in having the virus, but wanted to be responsible and ensure those who were around here were aware.
“But yeah, it was not well received,” she said.
She said that after her tweet announcing the news at night, she awoke the next day to several texts:
“They weren’t even even like ‘You shouldn’t have posted it.’ But it was like, ‘We really wish you gave us a heads up that you were going to post it.’ It was bad for PR and whatnot. But again, I wouldn’t have even thought to be like, “Hey guys, I’m gonna tweet that I have COVID, ha, ha. Like, that was just not what I was thinking about when I posted about it.”
Asked if WWE should have shut down early on in the pandemic, Paquette said she felt less concerned at SummerSlam given the testing they are doing now and that proper testing and protocols should have been implemented from the beginning. She also admitted she felt “a little slighted” as she “didn’t really feel like anyone was all that concerned that I got sick. That bothered me for sure.”
Paquette said she knew fairly quickly that she had the virus despite an initial negative test, feeling a gradual increase in symptoms and that her husband (Jon Moxley) didn’t think she had it. To this day, she still feels some aftereffects from time to time despite being COVID free.
She said there wasn’t a definitive moment when she decided to leave WWE but that when Backstage got canceled and she got her virus diagnosis on the same day, it forced her to take stock of her career and that she realized there wasn’t a lot for her to do in WWE that represented career progress. She added she will still be working for Fox in relation to WWE but that they are currently trying to figure that situation out.
When it was time to announce her decision, she talked to Michael Cole as both her boss and friend. No one tried to talk her out of her decision once they knew her mind was made up and that doing a show like Talking Smack again or random backstage interviews felt like taking steps back at this point in her career.
She said she has not spoken to AEW about working there since leaving and joked about the assumption that everyone that leaves WWE is going there. Her goal is to be “Lady Rogan” and be in more control of her content. She said she has a non-compete for “quite a while” and intimated it’s much longer than 90 days. She said she would open to talking and that it was tough in having to pretend that Moxley didn’t exist as she wasn’t allowed to tweet about him.
The very interesting interview also touched on her cookbook, watching wrestling with Moxley, John Cena, and more.
– After saying farewell to WWE at SummerSlam, Renee Young made an appearance on WWE’s The Bump this morning. Young revealed that the title of her upcoming cookbook is “Messy in the Kitchen: My Guide to Eating Deliciously, Hosting Fabulously and Drinking Copiously.” She said the book will probably be coming out “closer to the spring.”
JBL, Mandy Rose, The Viking Raiders, and Sarah Logan were the other guests on The Bump this morning.
It was announced that Kofi Kingston and Cesaro will appear on Sunday’s pre-Payback edition of The Bump. That Bump episode will stream on the WWE Network and WWE’s digital platforms starting at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time.
– In a feature story for People, Nikki and Brie Bella revealed the names of their newborn sons. Nikki and her fiance Artem Chigvintsev’s son is named Matteo Artemovich Chigvintsev. Brie and Daniel Bryan’s son is named Buddy Dessert Danielson.
– New NXT North American Champion Damian Priest told Sports Illustrated about how he prepared for his first-ever ladder match at TakeOver XXX: “This was my first-ever ladder match, so I made sure I did my homework. A big part of that was reaching out to people who have been in ladder matches, and I spoke with Edge for an hour about it. For me, the main thing I took out of our conversation was that the match was not going to play out the way I thought it would. And he was right, because that’s exactly what happened. Very little happened the way I thought it would, but I was able to adapt. And he told me to stay in the moment, and that stuck with me, too.”
Priest also spoke about his hot tub celebration after winning the North American title: “Jumping in, even in all my gear, I’ve never felt better in my entire life. That wasn’t fake, that wasn’t acting, that was real. I could have changed, but I didn’t care. It felt like a ray of energy exploding inside me full of enjoyment and accomplishment.”
Lee wrote in response to someone who said he didn’t have to explain the situation: “Of course I don’t *have* to. I don’t owe anyone an explanation. It is simply my way of showing respect to the people who have supported me. I don’t want people caught up on small things when what *should* be acknowledged is on my DEBUT, I mixed it up with Orton. WAY bigger deal”
– Shelton Benjamin tweeted about indie promotions returning with their first events since the COVID-19 pandemic began: “Great seeing lots of Indy promotions getting back to business glad to have you all back, the Industry NEEDS you. Stay safe and tear the house down. #supportindywrestling”
– Bray Wyatt tweeted today: “Dearest @Goldberg, Don’t worry old friend we fixed it. Don’t listen to what they say, you and I know they’re wrong. I forgive you! But please, if you see the red walk away from it.”
Following her final night with the company, Renee Young posted a statement reflecting on her time with WWE:
This November would mark 8 years in WWE. 8 years!! An opportunity of a lifetime with a global company to learn, grow, make history and do things beyond my wildest dreams before I left Toronto for this adventure. I made friends, family- literally family- I met my husband here (what a f*cking dreamboat) and people that will be a part of my life forever. I did things I couldn’t have even imagined or dreamt up. From backstage interviews, a reality show, Talking Smack, being the first woman to be a part of a WWE broadcast in Saudi Arabia, tbeing the first woman to sit at the commentary desk full time on Monday Night Raw, calling Wrestlemania, anchoring a brand new show with Fox Sports (which you guys will still be able to catch me on!) I’ve been so lucky. But it’s also been a lot of my hard work, drive and passion that’s landed me in these amazing spots. I’ve had such an incredible run with WWE. It’s changed my life. But that all leads me to now. What’s next? Do I stay satisfied with what I’ve done? Or do I go in pursuit of new barriers and goals in mind? I always choose the latter. I have no idea what that means or looks like, but it’s time for me to go. Time to roll the dice again and shake things up. Time to light that fire again and forge on. Time to say bye to Renee Young and reconnect with Renee Paquette and remember why I started this journey to begin with. And as the ride slows down- as the world slows down, I see it as my opportunity to make a move. So I just wanted to say thanks to WWE and to the all the fans that have been so damn cool to me over the years. And send a crap ton of love to all of my people. I’m excited for the future! Thanks for everything
Young also tweeted today: “Also thanks to all of the cool dudes who hung out last night and sent my ass home with a gnarly hangover. Love ya!”
On Sunday night’s SummerSlam pre-show, Young confirmed that it was her “last hurrah” with WWE. At the end of the pre-show broadcast, Charly Caruso spoke about the respect and appreciation everyone has for Young. Caruso said she speaks for the panel and everyone behind the curtains in thanking Young for everything she’s done for WWE. Young then thanked WWE and the fans.
OutKick first reported last week that Young was expected to leave WWE but would still be working SummerSlam.
In addition to being part of last night’s pre-show, Young made an appearance on the SummerSlam edition of WWE Watch Along.
Tonight’s SummerSlam pre-show featured a sendoff for Renee Young.
Young was part of tonight’s pre-show panel with Charly Caruso, Booker T, JBL, and Peter Rosenberg. Young said at the start of the broadcast that this was her “last hurrah” with WWE. At the end of the pre-show, Caruso spoke about the respect and appreciation everyone has for Young. Caruso said she speaks for the panel and everyone behind the curtains in thanking Young for everything she’s done for WWE.
Young then thanked WWE and the fans and said they’ve truly changed her life.
OutKick first reported this past Wednesday that Young was expected to leave WWE but would still be working SummerSlam. “Inevitably, rumors will swirl about AEW. Young’s husband, Jon Moxley, is the current AEW Champion. While it would make sense, Young also has offers outside of the wrestling industry, sources say. This includes her recent cookbook deal,” OutKick wrote.
Dave Meltzer confirmed that Young was leaving WWE and had given notice the previous week.
Young will be part of tonight’s SummerSlam edition of WWE Watch Along.
Sports website Outkick reported Wednesday that Renee Young is leaving WWE.
PWInsider later confirmed the report, adding she gave her notice a week ago. There is no date for when she is finishing up with the company, nor where she might be going, but she is expected to be working SummerSlam this weekend. Our Dave Meltzer has independently confirmed the news as well.
The 34-year-old Canadian was signed by WWE in 2012 after working with what is now SportsNet 360 on Right After Wrestling (later called Aftermath), a pro wrestling show with Mauro Ranallo, Arda Ocal, and Jimmy Korderas.
She has done a myriad of on-screen work in her eight years with WWE including commentating, backstage interviewing, and as a host for studio shows like WWE Backstage and various pre/post shows. She became the first woman to do commentary for an entire episode of Raw in 2018, a role she took on full-time until being moved to SmackDown in October 2019 as a special contributor. She also handled commentary duties on NXT and Superstars during her WWE career.
Young, who is married to AEW’s Jon Moxley, announced in July that she is writing a cookbook The two live in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The worst week in the pro wrestling industry since 2007 is looked back on in the new issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
We go through name after name, case after case, the culture, the situations, suggestions on changes and a history dating back to the 30s of women in wrestling’s plight. We look at Joey Ryan, the WWE talent, people fired from every company, companies restructuring, attorney letters, Jim Cornette, Sammy Guevara, Travis Banks, Marty Scurll, the U.K. culture, the legal aspect, the ugliness from the fan base, David Lagana, Michael Elgin, death of CHIKARA, and pretty much the only mainstream place that will touch the story.
We also look at the COVID outbreak in WWE. We look at how it happened, why AEW is at risk, the new taping schedule, the plans to return to shows with fans quicker than you think, how the AEW decision making went, how WWE is getting around the travel ban, the Orlando, the mask ordinance, and much more.

SUNDAY NEWS UPDATE
One of the most talked about episodes that we’ve done in a long time is the weekend show we did with Garrett Gonzalez and Andreas Hale that is up on the site right now. Also, the current issue has been one of the most highly-praised we’ve done, particularly the two lead stories.
Last night’s UFC show was very strong. The Dustin Poirier vs Dan Hooker fight has been generally considered top three for this year’s fight of the year along with Zhang Weili vs. Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Shane Burgos vs. Josh Emmett. Other fights you should go out of your way to see were Sean Woodson vs. Julian Erosa, Brandan Allen vs. Kyle Daukaus and Mike Perry vs. Mickey Gall. Plus the TakashiSato vs. Jason Witt fight is devastating.
The scorecards for the Poirier vs. Hooker fight saw all three judges give Hooker the first two rounds and Poirier the last three, which is what I would have done as well. There were no complaints as 100 percent of the media scores were for Poirier. Judge Eric Colon’s 48-46 score was based on giving Poirier a 10-8 round four.
We are saddened to report the death of Vida Gail James, who has been married to Bob Armstrong since 1960 and is the mother of Brian, Brad, Steve and Scott Armstrong. Brian & Scott noted that they were thankful that Bob was able to be at her side at the end.
On Google search charts for the past week, Dustin Poirier was the No. 5 most searched term in the U.S. yesterday with more than 100,000. Mike Perry was no. 10 with 100,000. On Friday, Dave Bautista was No. 16 with 50,000 for the Love Walk in Tampa that he and Titus O’Neil spearheaded. The Rock was No. 20 on Thursday with 50,000 because he’s The Rock. And the dubious distinction of the most searched for name over the past week in pro wrestling, boxing or MMA is Sammy Guevara with 200,000 on Monday. Guevara is the only name from any Speaking Out stories that got any traction at all mainstream, and the WWE’s COVID breakout also got nothing.
Renee Young is doing much better. She also tweeted that she will make an announcement on Wednesday.
WWE
The original plans to tape the entire month of NXT over Wednesday and Thursday has been changed. Both episodes of the Great American Bash for 7/1 and 7/8 will be taped Wednesday. They will tape two weeks of Smackdown on Thursday and two weeks of Raw on Friday. And that is obviously all subject to change because there were multiple changes this past week.
An amazing interview with EVP John Brody explaining why WWE is still running, especially when invoking the name of Ric Flair in talking about safety measures.
Scheduled for Raw are contract signings for Dolph Ziggler vs. Drew McIntyre and Asuka vs Sasha Banks. At least a few talents were not at the tapings for COVID related reasons.
UFC
Dana White wasn’t at the show last night because he took matchmakers Sean Shelby and Mick Maynard on a vacation to Cabo after all their work in putting the last several weeks of shows together. After he gets back, White will head to Yas Island for several weeks. There are no UFC shows until 7/11, the next PPV show.
Dustin Poirier was given the first Forrest Griffin Community Award for all of his work in establishing The Good Fight Foundation in Lafayette, LA. This year they have donated more than 1,000 meals to frontline healthcare workers at local hospitals and clinics. Last night they donated meals to hundreds of people in the city at a burger restaurant where they all watched last night’s show together.
Regarding a talk a few days ago on the radio show about the Crush Gals in WWF, they did three matches. On March 8, 1986, at the Boston Gardens, they beat Judy Martin & Donna Christantello. On March 11, 1986 in Poughkeepsie in a dark match, they beat Black Venus & Leilani Kai. And on March 16, 1986, in Madison Square Garden, they beat Kai & Penny Mitchell. Dump Matsumoto & Bull Nakano also teamed up that week in WWF rings for Matsumoto’s only WWF matches. In Boston, they lost to Dawn Marie (not the same Dawn Marie who was in WWE in the 00s and came from ECW) & Velvet McIntyre. In MSG they beat McIntyre & Linda Gonzalez. (thanks to Paul Sosnowski)

After news that multiple people in WWE tested positive for COVID-19, Friday’s SmackDown on Fox was taped at the Performance Center earlier in the day and to make up for limited talent available, they did a tribute to the Undertaker and replayed a version of the boneyard match edited for television.
On Saturday’s Wrestling Observer Live, we talk about the Undertaker’s legacy and his greatest matches.
Before that, we discuss reasons why WWE seemingly has a certain attitude when it comes to talent and testing for COVID-19 with a quote from a book that might sum it up. One of those recent WWE talents that contracted the virus is Renee Young, an incredibly talented broadcaster and one of the best in-studio hosts I have ever seen.
Plus, we discuss the Swamp Fight announced on SmackDown and what I would do each year with the Bray Wyatt character.
Renee Young announced tonight that she has tested positive for COVID-19.
Young wrote the following on Twitter: “Man. What a few days. My show gets cancelled and I get Covid. Wear your masks and wash your hands. Stay safe, everyone.”
Young had been part of last week’s WWE tapings, taking part in AJ Styles’ Intercontinental title presentation segment that aired on last Friday’s SmackDown.
The news comes as it was reported this afternoon that multiple people within WWE, including in-ring performers, have tested positive for COVID-19. WWE issued a statement today confirming the company “will continue COVID-19 testing of its talent, production crew and employees in advance of TV productions for the foreseeable future.”
Jon Moxley, the husband of Young, was taken off tonight’s AEW Dynamite broadcast as a precaution. “Recently @JonMoxley had contact with someone who had contact with someone who has COVID-19. Mox did the right thing & warned us. Doc asked him to stay home & get tested to protect us here at our test site. Cage will be in action tonight on #AEWDynamite ahead of their title fight,” AEW president and CEO Tony Khan tweeted this afternoon.
“Jon Moxley can get slammed on a car, crawl through tacks & fall through the stage, but it’s every bit as cool that he came forward & told us he’d had secondhand exposure to COVID. We test everyone here at #AEWDynamite, but Jon protected everyone onsite like the great champ he is,” Khan wrote.
Moxley is scheduled to defend his AEW World Championship against Brian Cage on the second night of Fyter Fest, which will be taped next week.
A sit-down interview with The Miz will be part of WWE’s final build to TLC.
WWE has announced that The Miz “conducted an exclusive sit-down interview in his home with Renee Young today, and the footage will be broadcast during tonight’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown.” Miz vs. Bray Wyatt is set for Sunday’s TLC pay-per-view.
Miz vs. Wyatt was announced for TLC on last week’s episode of SmackDown. There was an angle where — after Miz vowed to get answers about what The Fiend did to Daniel Bryan — Wyatt threatened Miz’s family and later attacked him and laid him out by hitting Sister Abigail.
Wyatt won’t be wrestling as The Fiend at TLC. His Universal Championship also won’t be on the line.
The Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is hosting tonight’s SmackDown. WWE is advertising that Roman Reigns will be out for payback after being humiliated by Baron Corbin last week.
