Two title matches set for first WWE Raw of 2023

Two title matches will take place on the first WWE Raw of 2023.

It was announced Monday that Bianca Belair will defend the Raw Women’s title against Alexa Bliss on the January 2 edition of the show, plus Austin Theory will put the United States title on the line against Seth Rollins.

Bliss defeated Bayley to become the new number one contender for the title during last week’s Raw. After the match, Belair celebrated with Bliss, but after the Raw video screen flickered, Bliss attempted to lay out Belair with the Sister Abigail. She stopped herself before she could, however.

On this week’s Raw, Belair confronted Bliss in a sit-down interview with Byron Saxton. Bliss wasn’t able to explain why she did what she did, but talked about her history with Bray Wyatt and how he had turned her into a dark figure that eventually caused her to go to therapy, but it didn’t help. Belair told Bliss she didn’t believe her, saying she knew what Bliss and Wyatt were capable of. Bliss told Belair not to make this about Wyatt. Belair got up to leave as the screen behind them flickered. Bliss responded by grabbing a nearby vase and smashed it in the back of Belair’s head.

Rollins defeated Bobby Lashley on last week’s Raw to become the number one contender to Theory’s title. The two engaged in a promo battle in the ring during this week’s episode.

The first Raw of the new year will take place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. A best of 2022 episode will air on December 26.

The announced lineup for the first Raw of 2023:

WWE Raw, Monday, January 2, 2023 —

  • Raw Women’s Championship: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Alexa Bliss
  • United States Championship: Austin Theory (c) vs. Seth Rollins

Bianca Belair vs. Rhea Ripley set for WWE Money in the Bank

Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Championship has been set for Money in the Bank.

Ripley won a fatal four-way match tonight on Raw, defeating Doudrop, Alexa Bliss, and Liv Morgan to earn the championship match for Money in the Bank. The finish had Ripley pin Doudrop with a riptide. After the match, the show closed with Ripley and Belair, who was at ringside, having a staredown.

Earlier in the show, Ripley and other members of Judgment Day introduced their newest member, Finn Balor. However, the group then turned their attention to Edge, with Priest saying that they needed to shed themselves of the one thing holding them back. They all proceeded to beat on Edge, with Ripley warding off security out of the ring as Priest gave Edge a conchairto, kicking him out of the group.

Money in the Bank will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 2.

Nikki A.S.H. cashes in to win WWE Raw Women’s title

Nikki A.S.H cashed in her Money in the Bank briefcase tonight, pinning Charlotte Flair to win the Raw Women’s title.

The main event of Raw had Charlotte defending the title against Rhea Ripley in a rematch from Money in the Bank. The finish had Charlotte walking up the ramp, with Ripley chasing after her. Charlotte then attacked Ripley with the belt for the DQ. This brought out Nikki A.S.H., and as Charlotte re-entered the ring, was laid out by Ripley. Nikki then pinned Charlotte after a crossbody to win the title for the first time.

Charlotte only held the Raw Women’s title for slightly over one day, defeating Ripley after submitting her with the figure eight leg lock at Money in the Bank. She mentioned in a promo earlier on Raw that with her one Divas title reign, five Raw Women’s title wins, and five SmackDown Women’s title wins, she was now an eleven-time Women’s champion.

Nikki A.S.H. won the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match at the pay-per-view, defeating Tamina, Natalya, Zelina Vega, Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Asuka, and Naomi.

Charlotte Flair wins Raw Women’s title at WWE Money in the Bank

Charlotte Flair regained the Raw Women’s Championship at tonight’s WWE Money in the Bank event.

The finish came after Flair grabbed Ripley’s leg, inserted it into the steel steps, and repeatedly booted the steps, causing damage to the leg. Back in the ring, Flair then applied the figure eight leglock. After a few seconds, Ripley tapped out, giving Flair the win and the title.

This is Flair’s fifth reign with the Raw Women’s title. Along with her two NXT Women’s titles, one Diva’s title, and five SmackDown Women’s titles, she is now a thirteen time singles champion.

Flair has been feuding with Ripley since her return to WWE following WrestleMania 37, where she was unable to compete due to a positive COVID-19 test. The two competed at WrestleMania Backlash in a triple threat match, where Ripley retained the title after pinning Asuka. Flair and Ripley then had a singles match at Hell in a Cell in June, where Flair won by disqualification.

Women’s title match announced for next week’s WWE Raw

A Raw Women’s title match has been announced for next week.

WWE confirmed on Raw tonight that Asuka will defend the championship against Mickie James next week. James challenged Asuka last week after Asuka said she was ready for anything.

This week on Raw, Asuka and Mickie James teamed up to take on Natalya and Lana, who have been feuding with James since she made her return to WWE last month. Asuka submitted Lana with the Asuka lock as James took out Natalya on the outside.

James had been out of action since last summer with a torn ACL.

A champions vs. champions match was also announced for next week’s Raw. SmackDown Tag Team champions Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro will face Raw Tag Team champions The Street Profits after Nakamrua and Cesaro laid out the challenge tonight. Cesaro brought up what is now being called the quarterly brand to brand invitational challenge, a concept that was introduced back in May that was quickly dropped.

Four matches set for next week’s Raw

A match for the Raw women’s championship has been made for next week.

Storyline friends Natalya and Ronda Rousey will face off for the title. The match was made after Natalya won a gauntlet match for the number one contendership. As the match went on for the duration of the third hour, it eventually boiled down to Natalya (who beat Ember Moon and Ruby Riott) and Sasha Banks, who entered the match last. After trading submissions, Natalya scored the submission win with the sharpshooter.

Meanwhile, Bobby Lashley and Elias will battle in a Miracle on 34th Street Fight, which is a street fight filled with Christmas items. The two have been feuding over the last several weeks by attacking one another with Elias’ guitar. Elias sent Lashley packing tonight with another guitar shot.

Finn Balor, Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre will face off in a triple threat match. All three men have had bad blood with one another in the last few weeks, and it was McIntyre who came to the ring this week to lay both Ziggler and Balor out as they were having a match.

Baron Corbin and Seth Rollins will face off in a singles match as well. During tonight’s Raw, Corbin blamed Rollins for what happened to him at TLC and mocked him for losing the Intercontinental title. Rollins responded by punching him out.

Paul Heyman will also be on the show to “celebrate the holidays”.

These matches will be taped later tonight and will air on next week’s Christmas Eve edition of Raw.

Ronda Rousey vs. Alexa Bliss set for WWE SummerSlam

Ronda Rousey’s next match has been set, and it’s for SummerSlam.

She’s set to face off against Raw women’s champion Alexa Bliss based off of what happened tonight during Raw. Despite being suspended from the program, Rousey came out and jumped Bliss and Mickie James who were cutting a promo based on Bliss’ win last night at Extreme Rules.

After a pull apart brawl, Kurt Angle came out and confronted Rousey, saying she needed to go home and cool off until Wednesday, when her suspension would be over. Constable Baron Corbin came out and said Angle needed to be more strict. Angle reluctantly agreed, suspending Rousey for another week. Despite this, Angle went ahead and gave her the title match for SummerSlam.

In storyline, Rousey’s been looking to get her hands on Alexa Bliss since Money in the Bank, when Bliss attacked her with the Money in the Bank briefcase right before pinning Nia Jax to regain the Raw women’s title. The following night on Raw, Rousey retaliated by putting Bliss through a table, which started the initial suspension.
