PROGRESS joins loaded WWN WrestleMania weekend schedule

The World Wrestling Network has announced next year’s schedule for their annual WrestleMania weekend events, and the 2017 edition in Orlando, FL looks to be the biggest weekend in company history.

Britain’s PROGRESS Wrestling will promote its first stateside events for WWN as part of the weekend, with a standalone show on March 31st and a co-branded EVOLVE vs. PROGRESS edition of WWN’s annual Mercury Rising Supershow on April 1st.

Though they didn’t run a show, PROGRESS was part of the WrestleMania 32 festivities in Dallas earlier this year with a title match between Marty Scurll and Will Ospreay on the WrestleCon Supershow.

EVOLVE will promote two standalone events with shows on March 30th and 31st.

Beyond Wrestling and CHIKARA will also join WWN’s weekend events for the first time. And SHIMMER and Kaiju Big Battel will return with shows.

Will Ospreay returns to action

Despite missing a show on Saturday because of a possible shoulder injury, Will Ospreay returned on Sunday for PROGRESS Wrestling at The Electric Ballroom in London.

Ospreay faced Mark Haskins on the show in a match to determine the number one contender for the PROGRESS Wrestling Championship. According to a report, Ospreay’s shoulder was strapped up heavily.

There was concern about Ospeay’s health after he had to pull out of a show on Saturday for NORTH Wrestling, but Ospreay’s quick return for PROGRESS would seem to indicate that the potential injury won’t cause him to miss other big matches in the future.

The 23-year-old Ospreay has battled several injuries despite being only a few years into his career. He has recently dealt with a knee injury, and Dave Meltzer wrote that in just his short career Ospreay has suffered “two slipped discs, seven concussions, a dodgy shoulder that is prone to separation, two fractured heels, and sciatica which leads to numbness in his foot.”

Ospreay had posted the following on his Facebook page on Friday:

“To anybody attending North Wrestling I have the unfortunate news that I will not be able to attend due to injury.

Nothing to North Wrestling at all I took a nasty knock to my shoulder during the WCPW shows and I’m hoping it’s not bad but I’m booking a appointment with my doctors & pysiotherapist to see what the damage is.”
