Two title changes at NWA TV tapings

Two title changes took place at the NWA’s television tapings in Atlanta on Tuesday night.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express once again hold NWA Tag Team gold, as Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson defeated Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs to win the NWA Tag Team titles. Colt Cabana also won the NWA National Championship from James Storm.

It’s been an eventful week for The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express. The Hall of Fame tag team also made their NJPW debuts last Friday and wrestled on all three nights of NJPW’s Fighting Spirit Unleashed East Coast tour.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are the third team to hold the NWA Tag Team titles since they were reintroduced earlier this year. Latimer & Isaacs had won them from ROH’s PCO & Brody King in a dark match prior to Global Wars Espectacular: Chicago last month.

The NWA National title was reintroduced in 2018, and this is the second time Cabana has held it since then. Storm had won the title from him in June.

The NWA was at GPB (Georgia Public Broadcasting) Studios for tapings on Monday and Tuesday. The name of their weekly show is NWA Power. It will air on the NWA’s Facebook page and YouTube channel on Tuesdays at 6:05 p.m. Eastern time, with the first episode debuting on October 8.

Jim Cornette joins commentary team for NWA studio show tapings

Jim Cornette will be part of the NWA’s new studio wrestling series.

The NWA released a video today announcing that Cornette will be doing color commentary at their television tapings in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, September 30 and Tuesday, October 1:

Cornette will be working alongside Joe Galli on the commentary team. Galli is the lead commentator and host for the series. Cornette and Galli were both also part of the commentary team for the NWA’s 70th Anniversary Show last October and the Crockett Cup this April.

Cornette’s last scheduled commitment with MLW was in July.

The September 30 and October 1 events are the NWA’s first TV tapings of the Billy Corgan era. They’re taking place at GPB (Georgia Public Broadcasting) Studios in Atlanta. When and where the tapings will be airing hasn’t been announced.

NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis (w/ Kamille), NWA National Champion James Storm, NWA Women’s World Champion Allysin Kay, Eli Drake, and Ricky Starks were the first wrestlers announced for the NWA tapings. Colt Cabana has also been added, and Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs have since won the NWA Tag Team titles from ROH’s PCO & Brody King.

Colt Cabana announced for NWA TV tapings

The NWA has added another wrestler to their first television tapings of the Billy Corgan era.

On Monday night, the NWA announced that Colt Cabana will be appearing at their television tapings in Atlanta, Georgia on Monday, September 30 and Tuesday, October 1. The tapings are taking place at GPB (Georgia Public Broadcasting) Studios.

In the NWA’s video announcing his addition to the tapings, Cabana cut a promo where he said he hasn’t forgotten about his issues with James Storm.

Storm is the current NWA National Champion. He defeated Cabana to win the title in June, with the title change being set up by Storm attacking Cabana and getting him to agree to the match despite being injured. Prior to that, Cabana and Storm went to a 15-minute time limit draw in a title match in May.

Storm, NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis (w/ Kamille), NWA Women’s World Champion Allysin Kay, Eli Drake, and Ricky Starks have also been confirmed for the September 30 and October 1 studio show tapings.

Thomas Latimer & Royce Isaacs won the NWA Tag Team titles from PCO & Brody King before ROH’s Global Wars Espectacular show in Villa Park, Illinois this past weekend. The NWA’s working relationship with ROH came to an end in July.

Cabana is a commentator and wrestler for ROH in addition to wrestling on the indies. Cabana vs. Marty Scurll in a Final Battle number one contender’s tournament first round match is set for ROH’s Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view on September 27.

NWA announces first TV tapings of Billy Corgan era

The National Wrestling Alliance announced that they will be holding television tapings this fall.

The company posted a video with NWA President Billy Corgan talking about studio tapings from the 1970s and 1980s, leading to an announcement about the NWA starting their own television tapings. The video then announced that tapings would be held in Atlanta, Georgia on September 30 and October 1. No venue was announced, nor was it mentioned where the tapings would be airing.

The NWA has made changes in the last several weeks, including ending their relationship with Ring of Honor. NWA World Heavyweight champion Nick Aldis was a regular on ROH’s shows, as well as National champion James Storm and the NWA’s newest signee Eli Drake.

ROH and NWA had worked together for a number of shows, including the NWA’s most recent event, the Crockett Cup. The tournament featured wrestlers from the NWA, ROH, CMLL and New Japan Pro Wrestling. ROH’s Brody King and PCO won both the tournament and the NWA World Tag Team titles.
