Former TNA World Champion Nic Nemeth has now opened up in detail about TNA President Carlos Silva’s decision to scrap his match against MJF.
After a recent back-and-forth on social media, a match was recently booked for Create-A-Pro Wrestling, where TNA’s Nemeth was scheduled to go against current AEW World Champion MJF. However, just days before the event, Silva scrapped the match. Other matches featuring TNA wrestlers against AEW wrestlers were also canceled.
“So a lot of things happened at once. I was out of the country doing a couple of UK dates and I found out that a couple of different things were happening. Our President Carlos Silva is very open when it comes to a lot of things, behind the scenes deals, things people don’t always know about, we put out there, he’s very open to constantly being ‘here’s why I can’t do this thing,’” Nemeth said.
“We had a phone call, he said, because of certain deep into contractual obligations, certain companies might have crossover with certain other companies that we are with their rival, or a streaming service, or a cable company. He goes ‘because of the situation, and it’s debatable, and there’s a few of them, we have to do the right thing now’. It’s gonna be a hard choice, but long-term it covers their butts legally for everything,” Nemeth concluded.
Nemeth is now scheduled to face Bear Bronson, while MJF will feature in an open challenge match.
Nic Nemeth shares his own feelings on the canceled MJF match
In the same appearance, he further opened up and shared his own feelings about the match getting canceled.
“I’m crushed, obviously, because you can have the business aspect, you explained to me and showed me the legal basis of why we can’t do this right now, but also the part where I was like ‘this is such a cool thing that’s gonna happen,’ Nemeth continued.
“Rarely you get these extra special cool moments, dudes from other companies, dudes from other generations, or in this case both, where you you know it’s going to be good, and big, and awesome and you just can’t get it done, and I’m absolutely crushed, because I go ‘this is gonna be something special down the line’.”
Nemeth further added that he is determined to make his match against MJF happen no matter how long it takes.
“I like to let everyone know once in a while I can still go, I don’t get tired, I got my stamina from St. Eds and Kent State wrestling team, it’s never going away. I want to show anybody, whether they’re 28, or 35, or the next guy who’s got the torch for AEW for the next 20 years, which really appears to be MJF dominating, I wanted to go ‘hey listen, I can go too, and I want to see if you can hang with me’. This is something we thought we’d never see; that’s what makes it extra special.”
MJF’s previously scheduled match against Nic Nemeth on May 1 for Create-A-Pro has been scrapped due to TNA blocking its wrestlers from working with those contracted to other companies. The AEW World Champion called into Busted Open Radio on Thursday and was critical of TNA, calling the move “disgusting.”
MJF said:
“Let’s talk about TNA and the fact that they are pulling young talent off of shows when they’re barely paying them any money whatsoever and telling them, ‘Hey, you can’t wrestle because there’s a guy from another promotion that’s wrestling on this show.’ Does that help young talent grow? Does that help young talent become better inside the squared circle? Moreover, does that help young talent put food on their plate so they can eat?
What Carlos Silva is doing is disgusting. And if anybody supports him or that company at this point, it is very hard for me to wrap my head around.”
The AEW World Champion also called TNA president Carlos Silva “a dumb mother—-r” in a social media post earlier on Thursday.
Both MJF and Nemeth will still be on the May 1 Create-A-Pro show in Melville, New York. Nemeth is now set to wrestle Bear Bronson, while MJF will be holding an open challenge. MJF trained at Create-A-Pro under TNA wrestler Brian Myers and AEW Vice President of Talent Development Pat Buck.
A clip of MJF calling into Busted Open Radio is available below:
Nic Nemeth is “crushed” that his scheduled match against MJF is no longer happening.
On Busted Open Radio this morning, Nemeth addressed the news that he will no longer be facing MJF at an upcoming indie show. The TNA and AEW stars were set to collide for Create-A-Pro on May 1, but the match has now been canceled with TNA citing “partner conflicts.”
“You know, I was really looking forward to this. I was really, really excited,” Nemeth said. “But, yes, as of yesterday, as I was flying in, I found out, because of certain partnerships and brands, TNA President Carlos Silva had to make a difficult decision and protect a couple of brands down the line and things that are actually contractually obligated to happen — can’t just kind of do whatever we want. Even though I think some things were approved at a different time, when it became the situation that it is now with a couple of different things happening at once, I feel like — I’m crushed. Because I was very much looking forward to doing this, but it’s unable to happen at the moment.”
Nemeth and MJF are still working the May 1 event in Melville, New York but will now have different opponents. Nemeth is facing fellow TNA star Bear Bronson, while MJF will hold an open challenge.
“Still doing the Create-A-Pro show, and refunds will be available. MJF is going to do an open challenge there and he’s still going to be signing and doing all of the things at Create-A-Pro for that big show. All of those things will happen,” Nemeth said. “I’m going to wrestle Bear Bronson for the first time ever. I hate that it had to come out this way. I hate that this wasn’t all taken care of in the past. But that’s something we can all work on, I gotta start reading some fine print and we have to protect people that we actually work with and we have partnerships with. Usually I’m pretty great about that, so I’ll stay on that for everything that we do.”
Though it can’t happen now, Nemeth does still hope to make the MJF matchup a reality at some point. The two had been building up a feud on social media and through Nemeth’s regular co-host role on Busted Open.
“I’m bummed out. I’m going to try and make this match happen one day, and hopefully soon,” he said. “But at the moment, it is currently not happening.”
MJF took a less diplomatic tone while addressing the situation, sending out a tweet this morning where he called TNA President Carlos Silva a “dumb motherf***er” and said the pay in TNA is “sh*t.”
Other TNA wrestlers have also been pulled from scheduled matches against AEW wrestlers, including a Leon Slater vs. Ricochet bout that was supposed to happen at WrestleCon’s Mark Hitchcock Memorial Supershow on April 16.
AEW World Champion MJF isn’t happy about his planned match against Nic Nemeth being canceled.
A match between the two was supposed to happen for indie promotion Create-A-Pro in New York on May 1. However, that bout is now off due to a change that’s been made by TNA Wrestling. The promotion has started pulling talent from indie matches against AEW stars, with TNA President Carlos Silva citing “partner conflicts” as the reason.
Fightful reports that Silva was unhappy about AEW Collision airing opposite TNA Impact last Thursday. The Collision episode was moved from its normal Saturday time slot due to TNT’s coverage of the March Madness college basketball tournament.
“It’s called being preempted due to March madness,” MJF wrote. “This guy is actively a dumb motherf***er. Congrats. You pay your talents sh*t. [Then] force them off shows where they can make money. #lolTna”
MJF and Nemeth had been building up their match on social media and Busted Open Radio, where Nemeth is a regular co-host in addition to his role with TNA. It was announced earlier this year that the former Dolph Ziggler has re-signed with TNA, where he is one of the company’s top stars.
An MJF match against Bear Bronson was also reportedly supposed to happen for Game Changer Wrestling last month before being blocked by TNA.
The reason, according to Fightful sources, is that Silva was unhappy with the fact AEW Collision ran head-to-head with last Thursday’s Impact even though that was a WBD call and not AEW’s due to NCAA tournament action.
The outlet noted earlier Wednesday that TNA had been pulling talent due to “partner conflicts.” WWE is a partner to TNA.
One of those considerations, however, did not affect Jody Threat who both took on and defeated Mercedes Mone last week in Winnipeg for Mone’s final championship. It’s unclear why that was different.
The match between AEW World Champion MJF and current TNA roster member Nic Nemeth is officially off, according to our Dave Meltzer with the titleholder calling out TNA president Carlos Silva himself.
Built up for several weeks on social media and Busted Open Radio, the bout was supposed to take place for Create-a-Pro Wrestling’s event on May 1 at the All Sportz Melville in New York.
However, Wednesday brought news that TNA was going to pull some talent from indie shows that was possibly to include Nemeth and Ricochet who is scheduled to face Leon Slater next week at the Mark Hitchcock Memorial Supershow during WrestleMania 42 week in Las Vegas.
Meltzer confirmed the reports, followed by Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reporting Silva has said some TNA talent have been pulled from shows due to “partner conflicts.”
While Slater’s status is still unknown, Meltzer said the Nemeth match with MJF is off.
Nemeth has yet to address the situation on social media, but that didn’t stop MJF from sharing some thoughts about Silva on X, shortly before Dynamite was supposed to begin.
He said both Nemeth and TNA are afraid of him, and that he will still be there at the event and “Let’s see if Nicky still has the balls to show up to Long Island.”
He added, “Shame old, Carlos doesn’t care about the fans or his roster getting paid.”
We’ll have more on this situation tonight on Wrestling Observer Radio.
Welp.
Nic Nemeth and TNA are afraid of the AEW World Champion.
Shame old, Carlos doesn’t care about the fans or his roster getting paid.
MJF recalled a bizarre backstage incident when he was almost abducted from an AEW event.
He detailed the incident during his interaction on The Adam Friedland Show. A man claiming to be a pilot approached him backstage informing him that he’d be flying him out to Long Island after the event. MJF later went to thank Tony Khan for the gesture, believing his boss had arranged it after his father suffered a heart attack. But Khan was confused and insisted he had nothing to do with it.
“A pilot walks up to me and he goes ‘Mr. Friedman, I’m going to be flying you out back home after the show’s proceedings’ which to be fair I’ve flown on the jet with my boss up to that point anyway. Not to the island, well, to the island, as in Long Island, the only island that matters.”
“So, I find my boss after this pilot says this to me and I knock on his door and he opens the door and he goes ‘Max!’, I go ‘Yeah, it’s me. I want you to know how much this means to me the fact that you’re trying to fly me back to my dad as soon as possible, after he had the heart attack.’ Cause he did know, my boss Tony Khan and he goes ‘What the f*ck are you talking about?’. And I go ‘The pilot just told me’. He goes ‘I didn’t f*cking book you a jet to go back home tonight’”
MJF returned with QT Marshall to confront the man. Marshall asked him to show his pilot’s license as proof and he pretended to have left it at home.
“So, now I go back over with one of my bosses, one of the EVPs of the company, QT Marshall. And QT goes, ‘So, who did you say hired you, again?’. He goes, ‘Tony Khan’. Tony Khan’s my boss. We go, ‘Okay, are you sure about that?’. And then security comes and they grab this guy, and QT goes, before the guy leaves, he goes ‘wait a minute, wait a minute, we’ll let you stay if you show us your pilot’s license’. And the guy, I sh*t you not does this (pats himself imitating his search). ‘Ah, I left it at home’. Get the f*ck outta here. So, then they f*cking throw, I guess they throw the guy in whatever you call the brig or whatever.”
The interviewer asked MJF how the man managed to get backstage access to which he replied that no one knows to this day. When security questioned the man’s intentions, he replied to abduct MJF.
“We still don’t know how he got there. We still don’t know how he got backstage. To be fair our security team has changed since then but it probably was the building security, not even AEW security fault but they asked this guy ‘What were you planning on doing?’. And he was honest he said gonna f*cking abduct me”
There was no specification on when the alleged incident transpired. However, MJF has talked about it publicly dating back to 2020.
Probably the most craziest story of the year A fake pilot was going to abduct MJF That’s absolutely mental 😂 pic.twitter.com/RWeOympcJL
A Wednesday Night Wars documentary? It could happen.
On Late Night Grin, MJF revealed that he had pitched the idea to Tony Khan, mentioning that they now have some key talent that worked in NXT during the time the two brands went head-to-head on Wednesday nights.
“We literally won and we have guys that work in our company now that were on the other side. It would be f****** sick. You can sit down [Adam Cole] and [Roderick Strong], Kyle [O’Reilly] and Swerve. You know, all these guys that were on the other side of the war…you can’t sit down Bobby Fish unfortunately…I mean folks, where’s the lie?,” he said, borrowing Fish’s infamous quote.
A few months before AEW Dynamite made its debut on TNT, WWE announced that NXT would be moving to the USA Network on Wednesday nights, competing head-to-head with Dynamite. On the first night of head-to-head competition, Dynamite scored a big win of 1.4 million viewers over NXT’s 891,000. AEW would go on to win most weeks until 2021, when WWE chose to move NXT to Tuesday nights where it has remained ever since.

Bret & Ross Hart talk Badnews Allen in WWE Hall of Fame
— We’ll be back with Wrestling Observer Radio tonight talking Smackdown, Sakura Genesis, Stand & Deliver and the rest of the weekend news.
— We’ll talk about the SmackDown angles tonight on the show. As noted all weekend, this was an Ari Emanuel call to Pat McAfee to do the angle and not something from the Paul Levesque side. Of those we heard from internally, they were not fans of it to say the least.
— Willam Haynes, Jr., the former Billy Jack Hayes, was ordered to stand trial for the murder of his wife in 2024. He was previously ruled mentally unfit to stand trial in May. He underwent more testing and KATU-TV reported the decision was made for him to stand trial in 2027 for the death of wife Janette Becraft.
— MJF said on the Late Night Grin podcast that he told Tony Khan they should do a documentary on the Wednesday night War with NXT, noting that they could have interviews with Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Relly and Swerve Strickland who were in NXT at the time.
— Billy Corgan’s NWA at the Crockett Cup this weekend announced a TV deal with the Sci-fi channel COMET. No other details were announced. Comet in 2025 averaged 92,000 viewers and an 0.03 in 18-49in prime time.
— The Joshua Van vs. Tatsuro Taira UFC flyweight title match that was scheduled for the major show on 4/11 has been moved back to the May show. The new semifinal underneath Jiri Prochazka vs. Carlos Uhlbertg for the vacant light heavyweight title will be Azamat Murzakanov vs. Paulo Costa.
— Regarding Dynamite, it was third in the first hour behind FOX News (which had a giant night with the Donald Trump speech) and the NBA and fourth in the second hour, also behind CNN. It was actually up in 18-49 and 25-54 from last week, down in 18-34 but still the second highest Dynamite in 18-34 so far this year.
— Will Ospreay on X said that he hadn’t returned to Japan because he wanted a break and didn’t know how his body was going to feel doing long flights like that since he lives in the U.K., and works full-time with AEW.
— Jon Jones was involved in an incident last night. Bryan Betran, who drove in a car said he was nearly hit three times by a truck even after revving his engine the first time. He flipped the person off and he proceeded to stop in the middle of the road, backed up and came into the parking lot. He said he thought Jones was carrying a weapon but said he just wanted the whole thing to blow over. Jones’ side is that the kid chased his car down for two blocks and tried to intimidate him and said he was proud of himself for standing up for himself and not allowing any bullying or intimidation.
— We haven’t heard much yet from the weekend CMLL shows, but from reports the top weekend matches were Callum Newman’s IWGP title win over Yota Tsuji and Yuto-Ice & Oskar vs. Zack Sabre Jr. & Ryohei Oiwa from Sakura Genesis. Stand & Deliver was also a lot better than most of the recent NXT big shows.
— I didn’t monitor it closely but Stand & Deliver about 30 minutes into the show had 133,000 viewers and was doing 147,000 to 158,000 about an hour in on YouTube. Those were only U.S. numbers but still far smaller than I would have expected.
— We’re looking for your thoughts on NXT Stand & Deliver and NJPW Sakura Genesis, so you can leave a thumbs up, thumbs down or thumbs in the middle along with a best and worst match to [email protected]
— Really not much on the Google search stuff for this weekend. Everything was low. The UFC show did 50,000. Stand & Deliver did 7,000. Deontay Wilder had 10,000 searches. Pat McAfee, Lil Yachty and nothing from Smackdown thing from Smackdown even hit the top 350 for the weekend.

Will never forget the afterparty of WM 2000. No one looked happy. It was like ‘um…did we just sh*t the bed with an overbooked mess of a show and desperately need to get back to 1-1 matches with huge personal issues?’ Big letdown that paved the way for the greatest Mania ever imo
That’s like a Tom Brady level. I would say he’s Tom Brady. Like, definitely GOAT status. He’s like soft-retired right now. I don’t know if he’ll ever come out of retirement. He’s a sicko, so he probably will, because he can never get enough – much like Brady. And he’s definitely, if you talk to wrestling fans and you say who’s one of the greatest wrestlers, bell-to-bell, all-time, GOAT, they’ll say Dragon.
I feel great. I’ve been cleared for a little while. I’m not 100 percent as far as performance-based — obviously I’m not lifting as much weight on my leg lifts and I’m not jumping just as high just yet. But, I mean, I can do everything, I’ve been in the ring several times training and practicing. I’m doing all kinds of different dynamic jumping stuff on my off days in the gym. I just trained legs today, I can train them fine. So I’m feeling good and excited. Have been waiting to come back. I’ve got three matches on the same day on Mania weekend. It just worked out that way.
The quad would’ve had me out for probably nine months anyways, and then I chose to get this right knee surgery and get a special, like, replacement on it. And that’s actually what kept me out longer. Because long story short, they botched it. I should’ve come back in November, and then I had to go back under the knife in November, and now I’m cleared from that surgery. When I found that out in October, I was pretty freaking devastated. I was like, ‘You got to be kidding me.’ Because the whole point of getting the one I got done in June on my right knee was so that when November came around, I didn’t have to get surgery again. I could be good to go instead of coming back and still having problems with my right knee.
Edmonton Journal published a story on Don Callis ahead of tonight’s Dynamite in Winnipeg. Callis reacted to the news that Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling has gotten a TV deal in Canada with TSN:
I think MLP getting a national television deal in Canada is gigantic news. It’s the first time since, I think, ’86 or ’89, since anyone has had national television in Canada in terms of a quote, unquote, independent (promotion). Of course, AEW is also on TSN, so I think it’s a great partnership.
I’m excited for Canadian fans that Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling is back. I think Canada has great wrestling fans – I don’t want to speak or interact with them – but they are intelligent in terms of pro wrestling.”
This is why I tell whoever I can at ROH and even at AEW — don’t bother with these bumps. They are all risk — no reward. If you successfully take a bump in 2026 no one cares, But if you mess it up you could truly harm yourself! Don’t do it
Lady Frost will make her MLW debut at a TV taping in Charleston, South Carolina on April 12. She’s now under contract with MLW after her AEW deal expired at the end of March.
I’ll keep the same attitude that I have; I won’t change that regardless of the talk that comes out of it. And as I lead NJPW, I have to think about carrying all of Japanese wrestling and all of pro-wrestling worldwide. We have to change things, we have to keep moving into new areas, untested waters. If NJPW gets complacent, it gets left behind by WWE, AEW, CMLL, so part of protecting what makes NJPW great is by changing the way it does things, and to innovate. And that goes for the staff and the wrestlers too; I hope people disagree with me, and prove me wrong, if that makes things bigger and better for all of us.
MJF seems to have another feud lined up for him after Kenny Omega and Nic Nemeth in AEW.
In an exclusive interview with The Takedown on SI, Hechicero discussed his ambition to take the CMLL World Title to another level. Despite defeating Castagnoli for the CMLL Championship this month, he would still like to face him, MJF and Mark Briscoe in AEW.
“Well I aspire to the highest level as CMLL World Heavyweight Champion,” Hechicero said. “First of all, MJF is the company’s world champion, it would be really great to face him.”
“Also, Claudio Castagnoli, it would be great to have a rematch against him because he did so well and I had two matches before with him in CMLL and the last time I also face Mark Briscoe, so I really want to face the top of AEW because if we see the AEW roster, there are the greatest wrestlers that I really want to face for the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion.”
Hechicero also commented on the hectic travel schedule that comes with his dual contract with AEW and CMLL. While tiring it also provides opportunities for his career, his match with Bryan Danielson in February 2024 on Collision being a noteworthy feud.
“With this double contract with AEW and CMLL and also since that match with Bryan Danielson, for me has been very fun, tired, constantly traveling long distances in Mexico, United States, but I really enjoy being part of this dual contract with CMLL and AEW. It’s something important for my career.”
Hechicero has been competing on CMLL since 2014 and on ROH in 2016. Nearly a decade later he made his AEW debut to represent CMLL and set up a singles match with Danielson.
At Homenaje a Dos Leyendas on March 20 he captured the CMLL World Championship from Castagnoli to kickstart his second title reign.
AEW World Champion MJF is set to defend his title against Omega at Dynasty on April 12. He is also involved in a non-AEW feud with Nemeth. The two will collide in May hosted by Create-a-Pro Wrestling in Melville, New York.
Last week MJF called out Nic Nemeth in a lengthy tweet citing disrespect and issued a challenge for a match. It was later made official by Create-a-Pro Wrestling for May in Melville, New York.
In an interview with Pep Shop Collectibles, while promoting the feud, Nemeth commented on MJF’s post claiming his intention to hype the AEW star took a turn for the worse.
“We saw some beef online, it was Max being insecure and being mad at me and saying a bunch of mean things and some of them true. He made some good points. Some digs, some gut punches that hurt. All I did was say that I think the world of him and I want him to be better and I want him to be like Dylan Carrizo. I want him to be someone that leads his company and leads everybody into 10 years from now where they’re talking about this might be one of the greatest of all time. So, I look forward to it.”
Nemeth added that he feels MJF was provoking him for the fight to the extent that Tony Khan might be forced to step in and potentially consider cancelling the match.
“As long as his boss (Tony Khan) lets him fight me, I think he’s counting on his boss stepping in and being like ‘Oh, sorry’ because he’s afraid to back down now. I ain’t afraid of sh*t, I don’t lose to anybody. I think I’m the best damn wrestler going today and then some. That’s me being humble. I look forward to this match, I look forward to kicking the sh*t out of him, maybe breaking his leg and tapping him out if I have to.”
Nemeth and MJF have never faced each other in a wrestling ring making this a first-ever collision between the two. Ever since the dispute escalated in January this year, a back-and-forth online exchange occurred. In MJF’s last post targeted at Nemeth, he labeled the former WWE wrestler as being an unworthy opponent against someone like him.
John LaRocca and Garrett Gonzales return with a brand-new Fight Game to discuss some of the most interesting topics in pro wrestling.
We gave out our thumbs up and thumbs down before jumping into our two big topics on current wrestling.
The first topic is on what AEW’s biggest money match is as we look toward All In later in the summer. If Will Ospreay is going to be finally anointed as AEW World Champion, should it be against MJF or Kenny Omega?
Then, we focus on the build to CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns for WWE WrestleMania 42 and try and figure out where they may be going next.
We finished up the show with our new Observe This segment talking about stories from Dave Meltzer’s 1985 Observer Book. This week was all about the build to the original WrestleMania.
The AEW World Champion is set to wrestle a member of the TNA roster.
Nic Nemeth vs. MJF has been announced for Create-a-Pro Wrestling’s event on May 1 at the All Sportz Melville in New York. The official poster for the event features TNA’s Frankie Kazarian, The System, AEW’s Kris Statlander and more.
“@Myers_Wrestling just hit me up and said this clowns down to throw hands. See ya there Nicky” posted MJF
This comes barely a few hours after MJF’s blatant rant on X about Nemeth’s regular criticisms on Busted Open Radio. It ignited in January this year and MJF issued multiple challenges to Nemeth. MJF mocked Nemeth’s early WWE career when he was a part of Spirit Squad. He further ridiculed him by citing he was shifting focus on his upcoming match against Kenny Omega at AEW Dynasty since he only faces the best the industry has to offer.
MJF trained at Create A Pro Wrestling Academy by Brian Myers and Pat Buck. He signed with AEW in 2019 and has established himself on the roster.
Meanwhile, Nemeth is signed to TNA Wrestling but after the MJF incident cited his contract permits him with the flexibility to compete on any promotion.
Nemeth was signed to WWE from 2004 to 2023. During this time he was a Money in the Bank winner and a two-time World Heavyweight Champion among his other accolades with the company.
