Mick Foley’s AEW debut announced for Double or Nothing

Mick Foley’s AEW debut is officially set for this Sunday night.

After it was reported last week that AEW was interested in working with Foley, Tony Khan sent out a tweet today announcing that Foley will have a role at Double or Nothing. He will co-host The Buy In pre-show for the event alongside Renee Paquette.

Khan did not state whether Foley has signed an AEW contract, though he did refer to Double or Nothing as being Foley’s first night in the promotion.

“Before #AEWDoN, watch the The Buy In FREE before the ppv THIS SUNDAY! Your new co-hosts are
@ReneePaquette & Mick Foley!,” Khan wrote. “Foley’s coming back to TBS, where he ran wild as Cactus Jack! Don’t miss his first night in AEW on Sunday + see you for Wednesday Night #AEWDynamite TONIGHT!”

The Buy In starts at 7 p.m. Eastern and will be carried on AEW’s social platforms, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, and more.

Mick Foley and MJF angle? —

Whether Foley will make any kind of appearance on the pay-per-view itself is unknown. Double or Nothing is being held in his home state of New York, and the main event will pit fellow Long Island native MJF against AEW World Champion Darby Allin in a hair vs. title match. Potentially setting the stage for a future interaction between the two, MJF insulted Foley in a media interview this week. Any angle between them would likely have limited, if any, physicality from Foley given the concussion issues he’s dealt with. The Hardcore Legend suffered a concussion in 2024 that led to him calling off plans to return for one final match.

MJF reacted to today’s announcement:

Foley, 60, announced in December 2025 that he was parting ways with WWE due to the company’s close ties with President Donald Trump. Foley remains under a WWE Legends contract that is set to expire next month.

MJF addresses possibility of Mick Foley joining AEW

MJF fully kept kayfabe while addressing the possibility that Mick Foley could join AEW.

It was reported last week that AEW has “real” interest in working with the 60-year-old Hardcore Legend, potentially setting the stage for Foley to appear at Double or Nothing in his home state of New York. Fellow Long Island native MJF spoke with SNY ahead of the pay-per-view and was asked about a possible Foley AEW debut. MJF didn’t do anything to dispel the rumors, instead insulting Foley and maybe laying the groundwork for an interaction.

“I think Mick Foley is fat and he’s ugly,” MJF responded when asked what he thinks about the Foley-AEW speculation. “I think he was the blueprint of what Darby Allin is now, which makes me hate him even more. That’s what I think of Mick Foley.”

Allin will be MJF’s opponent in the main event of Double or Nothing at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens this Sunday (May 24). It’s a hair vs. title match where MJF had to agree to put his hair on the line to get a rematch for Allin’s AEW World Championship.

Working together is something that Foley and MJF have been wanting to do for a while. When Foley was planning to come out of retirement for one last match, MJF was the opponent he hoped to face. But Foley suffered a concussion in training in 2024 that led to him abandoning that idea. Any AEW role for Foley would likely have limited, if any, physicality.

Mick Foley’s WWE status —

Foley’s WWE Legends contract is set to expire next month, with Foley deciding to let the deal lapse after taking issue with WWE’s “close relationship” with President Donald Trump. We’ve seen Foley make recent appearances for OVW and GCW, so it’s possible that he could show up in AEW before June. Rob Van Dam previously worked matches for AEW while under a WWE Legends deal.

The Takedown on SI, which was first to report AEW’s interest in Foley, wrote that it’s not known if Foley’s debut would be a one-off appearance or if he would sign with the company.

Mick Foley pens tribute to ‘Beyond the Mat’ director Barry Blaustein

On his Facebook account, Mick Foley penned a tribute to Barry Blaustein, the late “Beyond the Mat” filmmaker who was one of Foley’s closest friends.

Blaustein passed away at 72 years old on May 12 following battles with Parkinson’s disease and pancreatic cancer. Most of his Hollywood career was spent as a comedy writer, but Blaustein is best known to wrestling fans for writing, directing, producing, and narrating the 1999 documentary “Beyond the Mat” which took an inside look at the professional wrestling industry.

The film was released during wrestling’s Attitude Era boom period, but the idea first started to take shape years before that when the business was in a lull. Foley wrote that he and Blaustein first met when they spoke about the project in 1994. At the time, Foley’s story in the documentary was supposed to be a wrestler who once tasted stardom but was now back on the indies. By the time it actually got made, Foley was one of the biggest stars in WWE.

“My role in the documentary changed over time, and chronicled a brutal battle with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in what was Dwayne’s first moment on the big screen. By the time the movie debuted in 1999, Barry had become a trusted family friend and someone I had spent hundreds of hours with – professionally and personally,” Foley wrote. “Although my wife Colette had not seen him in many years, she was extremely sad at the news of his death and was very appreciative of the role Barry had played in my life. ‘I know we both loved him dearly,’ she said through text, ‘especially for us to open our life, issues, dreams, career and family to him. He was family to us. I hold him deeply in my heart. I was very fortunate to have worked with him and see the master mind he possessed. Brilliant.'”

After giving Blaustein access to film backstage in WWE, Vince McMahon later regretted the decision. McMahon did not like the finished product, which put Foley in a tough spot given how strongly he disagreed with McMahon’s opinion of the movie.

“Vince McMahon was not nearly as enthusiastic about the film as I was, feeling it took away the magic of the on-air product,” Foley wrote. “I disagreed vehemently, thinking it showed the outside world there were so much more to the unique world of professional wrestling than a vast majority of people – fans and non-fans alike had ever considered. Barry‘s ability to find the subtle humor and humanity in the lives of its participants was a big influence on how I approached the writing of my first book, ‘Have a Nice Day.’ WWE was not thrilled about my eagerness to embrace and promote the film – at one point telling me, ‘you think that guy (Blaustein) is your friend. He’s not your friend.’ The events of the following decades tell a different story.”

Foley and Blaustein remained in contact and would frequently get together in the decades following “Beyond the Mat.” They were able to see each other one last time this year when, due to Blaustein’s failing health, Foley filled in for him at a screening of the documentary. Foley visited Blaustein’s house and saw him surrounded by family and friends. He attempted to write Blaustein a letter after that, but it ended up being delivered just hours after Blaustein passed away.

“When I reached out to Barry’s daughter, Kasey for her father’s address, telling her I wanted to write Barry a letter, she encouraged me to write it quickly, as he was down to his final days,” Foley added. “I wrote the letter that evening and mailed it out via next day air the following morning. The letter arrived at the Blaustein home at 8 AM, just six hours after Barry had passed. But I hope it serves as a reminder that I loved Barry, thought the world of him, and considered him one of my best friends.”

Foley’s own Hollywood projects and future —

The 60-year-old Foley currently has multiple Hollywood projects of his own in the works. They include a limited series that’s in development where Paul Walter Hauser is slated to play Foley. Plus, Foley has done voiceover work for an upcoming A24 documentary on death match wrestling.

It was reported this week that AEW has “real” interest in working with Foley, whose WWE Legends contract is set to expire soon. A source told The Takedown on SI that they wouldn’t be surprised if Foley appears at AEW Double or Nothing in New York City on May 24.

Report: AEW has ‘real’ interest in Mick Foley

AEW reportedly has “real” interest in bringing Mick Foley into the promotion.

The Takedown on SI reported today that, per multiple sources, AEW expressed interest in working with Foley this year. It’s not known if AEW would sign Foley to a contract or if his debut would just be a one-off appearance. Foley is currently under a WWE Legends deal but won’t be renewing the deal when it expires next month due to taking issue with the “close relationship” WWE has with President Donald Trump.

“Multiple sources tell The Takedown that AEW has expressed ‘real’ interest in working with Foley this year, though the capacity of which is not known,” the report says. “It was also not certain whether or not the organization would be interested in signing the 60-year-old, or if it would simply be an appearance.”

Foley at Double or Nothing?

Though he’s currently under the WWE Legends deal, Foley has made recent appearances for OVW and GCW. A source told The Takedown on SI that they wouldn’t be surprised if Foley showed up at AEW Double or Nothing later this month. The pay-per-view is being held in Foley’s home state of New York — and Long Island native MJF is putting his hair on the line against AEW World Champion Darby Allin at the event.

“One source indicated that while they did not have any direct knowledge of Foley coming in for the show at this time, they would not be surprised if there was a push to use him on it if a deal could get done,” The Takedown on SI wrote. “The extent of any conversation between the parties beyond initial inquiry is also unknown.”

Double or Nothing is being held at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens on Sunday, May 24.

When Foley was considering coming out of retirement for one last match in celebration of his 60th birthday in 2025, MJF was the opponent he wanted to face. But Foley called off any plans for an in-ring return after suffering a concussion while doing light training in 2024.

Foley has multiple Hollywood projects in the works at the moment, including a limited series that’s in development where actor/wrestler Paul Walter Hauser is attached to play the Hardcore Legend. Foley also has done voiceover work for A24’s upcoming death match documentary.

Mick Foley doing voiceover work for A24 deathmatch documentary

Hardcore legend Mick Foley has some involvement with A24’s upcoming documentary on deathmatch wrestling.

Foley made an Instagram post today revealing that he is doing voiceover work for the feature-length project, which is from A24 and Australian filmmakers Danny & Michael Philippou. The twin brothers are behind the YouTube channel RackaRacka and have directed the horror films “Talk to Me” and “Bring Her Back.”

“DEATHMATCH DOC!,” Foley wrote. “Doing voiceovers for upcoming @a24 documentary #Deathmatch — I’ll do my best to be at the premiere! @michael_philippou @therackaracka”

Michael Philippou himself has stepped into the ring to get deathmatch experience as part of the filming for the documentary. Last month, GCW promoter Brett Lauderdale tweeted that people are going to be blown away by the final project.

“This documentary is going much further than anyone imagined and it is going to blow people away,” Lauderdale wrote. “It shows indie wrestling in a diff light and will change the way you look at deathmatch wrestlers. can not wait to see the finished version and cant wait for these stories to be told”

Foley currently has multiple Hollywood projects in the works, including a limited series where actor/wrestler Paul Walter Hauser is attached to play the role of Foley.

A24 is the studio that produced “The Iron Claw,” the 2023 biopic on Kevin Von Erich and the Von Erich family.

Mick Foley makes surprise OVW appearance

Months after severing ties with WWE, Hall of Famer Mick Foley made an appearance for OVW on Thursday.

Previously announced to be in attendance on Thursday‘s OVW Rise for a special pre-show meet & greet and appearance, Foley later took his presence to another level.

During the main event of the OVW Rise show, fans saw Foley appear as the special guest referee for the Louisville street fight between Donovan Cecil and Jack Vaughn.

The final moments of the match also saw the return of Mr. Socko, which ultimately helped Cecil pick up the victory.

Foley, 60, has long retired from in-ring action, with his last wrestling appearance in the 2012 WWE Royal Rumble. Apart from his wrestling appearances, Foley is also a published author and has appeared in a few films.

Mick Foley reacts to MJF Terry Funk tribute at AEW Revolution

Mick Foley has commented on MJF wearing Terry Funk-inspired gear at AEW Revolution.

MJF wore red, black, and white striped gear for his match against Hangman Page last weekend in Los Angeles. He also walked to the ring wearing a cowboy hat and poncho similar to those worn by Funk throughout his career.

On Saturday, Foley posted side-by-side images of Funk and MJF from the pay-per-view and included the caption:

“MJF HONORS THE FUNKER
Major props to @the_mjf for honoring Terry Funk last weekend at @aew Revolution 2026… True legends never die!
If I had one more match in me, it would have been with MJF. Sadly, it just wasn’t meant to be…”

Foley has previously stated in interviews that he had a secret meeting with MJF where the two worked on a multi-week program that would have led to a match between them. Foley said in an interview with Inside the Ropes last year that the program would have involved his son Dewey as well.

Foley’s post about MJF and Funk is available below:

WWE

  • During an appearance on the Beyond The Bell podcast, Nia Jax gave a kayfabe response to CM Punk’s promo line from Raw where Punk said he’s going to bury Roman Reigns next to his father Sika:
    • I think small men bark loud. And so in that moment right there, he was probably feeling a little confident. It’s funny because you see him walk away right after he says that line. That doesn’t bother me because I know what my family is physically capable of. We’ve shown it over the last three decades what our family is capable of, the Samoan Dynasty. So that’s fine. He can speak all he wants. But when it comes down to it, the person who’s going to be reigning over Phil will be none other than The OTC.
  • Paul “Triple H” Levesque shared the official poster for Punk and Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship match at WrestleMania 42.
  • Ahead of their upcoming WrestleMania match, Stephanie Vaquer and Liv Morgan both attended a training session at Natalya and TJ Wilson’s Dungeon last night. To keep kayfabe, they did not appear in photos together. Natalya tweeted that the session might have been her favorite ever at the facility: “Maybe the best practice we’ve ever had in The Dungeon. Four hours of sweat equity. So incredibly proud of this group tonight.”
  • Trish Stratus told Wrestlezone that there were plans for her to do more with WWE last year, but her mother passing away changed that. Stratus would like to come back and get closure on her career:
    • The 25th anniversary year was a special year. [WWE and I] worked together to see how we can celebrate it. It turned out really good with the homecoming moment, where I could team up with Tiffy. Being part of Evolution, all women’s pay-per-view, obviously, was amazing. Coming back to the Royal Rumble as 25. So, we kind of like plotted it out.
    • My mom got sick last year, and she passed. So there were plans [for more]. So, I do think there should be a bit of a finale moment. I’m very much about closure. So I feel like that I would need a little bit of closure. And I think maybe you guys need some closure on your Stratusfaction as well. Maybe.

    • In our dysfunctional, yet loving extended professional wrestling family, I believe we have to look out for each other, especially when one of us is going through a difficult time. Brian is going through that type of time now and can use a little help from all of us.
    • Knobs is one of those legends in wrestling that other legends talk about. To say he’s an inimitable force would be an understatement. But he’s really hurting now and can use a hand. I’m going to be doing my shirt off my back auction and all five of my upcoming #40YearsOfFoley shows in March – #NewOrleans #Lafayette #ColumbusOH (two shows in Columbus) and #DundeeIL. If you’re at one of these events, please consider placing a bid. For everyone else, please take a look at the GoFundMe site that has been set up for Brian
  • Trey Miguel spoke to Soundsphere magazine about how much TNA means to him:
    • The last time you asked me, what I said was only a percentage of what it means now. TNA has given me the opportunity to change my life. Back then, we hadn’t worked with WWE yet. I grew up watching WWE, so getting to reunite the Rascals, do great matches for four months with my brothers. That was special.
    • And everything I’ve been through recently, the way TNA showed loyalty to me, loyalty I’ve always tried to show them. It feels good to work for people who care about you. We’re all more than wrestlers; we’re humans. Humans go to bed with worries: ‘Is this going to work out? Can I keep doing this?’
    • For a moment, I doubted I’d ever wrestle again. I had announced I was wrapping things up. TNA called and offered me an opportunity not to do that. That showed me that the company I’ve given my best to for seven years feels the same way about me. That deepened the connection I have with TNA.
  • The Great Muta had an MRI after experiencing numbness in his hand, but no abnormalities were found:
    • I had numbness in my right hand, so I got an MRI of my cervical spine, but nothing abnormal showed up. I’m not even a baseball pitcher, but my elbow is deformed and it hurts!! Treatment injections… It’s scary

Mick Foley says he’s ‘very happy’ following meeting with Hollywood executive

One of Mick Foley’s stories might become a movie.

On social media, the WWE Hall of Famer announced he recently had a meeting with a Hollywood executive regarding one of his stories. He pointed out that this is not in relation to a biopic that is also in the works.

“I’m very happy about my meeting with a top Hollywood exec about turning one of my stories into a movie. This is a separate project from the biopic that’s in the works – a unique story based on real life experiences. I might even get to portray myself!,” he wrote.

In a recent interview, actor and Golden Globe winner Paul Walter Hauser revealed that he was officially attached to play Foley in a limited series. That project is still in early development and has not been sold to a network.

Foley made news late last year by officially distancing himself from WWE, saying he would not renew his Legends contract due to the company’s ties to President Donald Trump. Foley made that decision citing his administration’s treatment of immigrants and Trump’s reaction to the death of director Rob Reiner, which he called “incredibly cruel.”

Paul Walter Hauser attached to play Mick Foley in TV series

Paul Walter Hauser is getting closer to making one of his dream acting roles a reality.

During an interview with The Stunner, Hauser shared that he is now officially attached to play Mick Foley in a limited series. The project is still in its early stages and has not been sold to a network yet, but this marks a significant step after Hauser and Foley have been talking about the possibility for years.

“We can kind of break that news,” Hauser said. “I haven’t said it yet, but I’m attached to play Mick in a limited series. We haven’t gone out to market yet, but it’s happening.”

Hauser said that, with the TV show, the goal is to focus on Foley as a human in addition to his wrestling career.

“Hopefully I can bring some of my personality to that aspect as well, because when you tell the story, you’ve got to humanize the guy,” Hauser said. “We’re not just telling the Mankind story. It’s like, no, this is the Mick Foley story.”

An Emmy-winning actor, Hauser has turned his wrestling fandom into a second career. He competes on the indies, for MLW, and worked one match for ROH last year.

Foley turned 60 years old in 2025 and has dropped a significant amount of weight lately as he focuses on improving his health. He has become friends with Hauser through the process of developing this TV show. In their initial discussions, they weren’t sure if it would end up being a movie or mini-series.

Mick Foley announces passing of his mother

One of pro wrestling’s all-time greats is mourning a tragic loss in their family.

Mick Foley announced today that his mother, Beverly Foley, has passed away following a battle with dementia. Foley noted that his mother was a private person — not wanting a funeral or an obituary — but he decided to write a tribute to her in hopes that it would help other families who have a loved one battling dementia know that they are not alone with what they are going through.

“It is with a heavy heart I report the passing of my mother, following a lengthy battle with dementia. She was a strong, fiercely independent woman who beat polio as a child, became the first member of her family to attend college, and instilled in me a belief that I was capable of doing anything,” Foley wrote. “She made me feel no dream was too big to dream, and nurtured my imagination and my love for reading, writing and storytelling. Simply put, without Mrs. Foley and the gift she gave me, no one would know Mrs. Foley’s baby boy. I love you Mom.”

In a long-form tribute posted to Facebook, Foley shared how his mother helped shape his life. With her being born in 1938 as the United States was nearing the end of the Great Depression, Foley credited his mother for the “legendary Foley thriftiness” that has served him well over the years.

Beverly Foley attended college and eventually received two master’s degrees — despite her own father not seeing the value in a woman striving for higher education. Her love of learning is one of the biggest things that she passed down to her children.

“She loved reading to me and my brother, sparked my imagination and nurtured my own love for reading and writing. Although I did not realize it until years later, when I sat down with my notebooks to write ‘Have a Nice Day,’ I was not doing it all on my own; my mother’s love was guiding me – all those years of encouragement allowing me to believe I had the necessary tools to write my very own book. Following the book’s release, my mother carried it with her everywhere – and that 570-page behemoth wasn’t light by any means,” Foley wrote. “I do believe her proudest moment as my mother was seeing my name on the cover of a book I had written. There’s no way I could have done it without her.”

While hoping that a cure for dementia will be found one day, Foley encouraged everyone to appreciate every moment with their families and always let them know how loved they are.

Mick Foley celebrates big milestone in weight-loss journey

Mick Foley shared some good news on social media today, revealing that he is now 100 pounds down from his highest weight.

The 60-year-old Foley has found a new lease on life lately with weight loss, along with feeling much better after undergoing hip and knee replacements. His highest weight was 372 pounds — and Foley announced today that he now officially weighs 272. Foley had started to creep up back toward 300 pounds before recommitting himself and getting back into the 270s.

“It took two years, but I’m officially down 100 pounds from my all-time high of 372 pounds in January, 2024,” Foley wrote. “I actually thought last year my high was 379 and I hit my goal when I hit 279 last January…. But little did I know I was 7 pounds short of my 100 lb goal one year ago.

“Yes, I had some help in the form of Wegovy, which helped reduce the constant cravings…. But I made wiser eating choices, stopped eating when I was starting to get full – instead of when I was stuffed – and did a little bit of that @ddpyoga as well. I’ve managed to keep the weight off since last year and actually hit my goal….finally!”

The next milestone Foley is hoping to reach is 250 pounds. He thanked everyone for their encouragement and noted that he is moving around a lot better.

“I am moving around so much better, I’m not short of wind after walking up hills and stairs, and one day may even take my shirt off at the beach,” he added.

Last month, Foley announced that he is parting ways with WWE and will not be renewing his Legends contract when it expires this summer. Foley cited WWE’s close association with President Donald Trump as the reason for his decision. The final straw for Foley was the “incredibly cruel” response that Trump had after the death of Hollywood director Rob Reiner.

Mick Foley: ‘I stand with Jesse’ Ventura after comments about Donald Trump

Mick Foley says he stands with Jesse Ventura.

Ventura, the former Governor of Minnesota and WWE Hall of Famer, was interviewed recently regarding immigration enforcement actions in Minnesota and the shooting death of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good. Ventura was critical of Donald Trump during the interview, calling him a “draft dodger” and saying the United States is now a “third world country.”

Foley posted footage of Ventura’s interview to Instagram on Saturday along with the caption:

“I STAND WITH JESSE

Proud to see the great Jesse Ventura speaking out in Minnesota.  I agree wholeheartedly with “The Body” here, and I don’t know if anyone could have said it better.  We can’t keep letting Trump and his gutless yes men lie to us over and over. America needs to be better than this — we have to move on from this era of domestic and international cruelty.

I would encourage everyone to be like the former Governor here, and use your freedom of speech to stand against injustice.”

Gail Kim responded to Foley’s post, writing, “Me too!”

Ventura also teased a possible run for Governor again in November while being interviewed.

“You know what? Maybe it’s time for Jesse. I only did one term. I’m owed a second,” he said.

Foley announced last month that he was parting ways with WWE over the company’s relationship with Trump. He also stated he will not sign a new Legends deal with WWE when his current one expires in June. Foley said in an interview with the Orlando Sentinel last week that some fans “have dropped out of the fandom” as a result of his stance.

Foley’s post is below:

Mick Foley addresses fan reaction to anti-Trump stance

Mick Foley believes the political stance he’s taken is an important one, even if it’s lost him a few fans.

The 60-year-old Foley announced last month that he is “parting ways” with WWE due to the close association the company has with President Donald Trump. Foley will not be making any appearances for WWE while Trump is still in office, and he will not be renewing his WWE Legends contract when it expires this June.

While Foley has been outspoken about his criticism of the Trump administration in the past, the final straw for him was the “incredibly cruel comments” that Trump made after the death of director Rob Reiner. WWE executive Paul “Triple H” Levesque has ties to Trump through being a member of his Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.

Foley spoke to Orlando Weekly for a new interview published this week. He chose not to answer questions about the reasons behind his split from WWE but did address how fans have reacted to his political stances.

“People know that I’m not on board with a lot of things the current administration is doing,” Foley said. “I have fans who feel different, and still like and support me. And I have [fans] who dropped out of the fandom, which is obviously their right.”

The Orlando Weekly interview was to promote Foley’s one-man show that’s taking place at the Funny Bone comedy club tonight (January 6). The show is part of his “40 Years of Foley” tour. He noted that he does not talk about politics during these shows.

“People know I’m outspoken,” Foley said. “But the closest I get to making a political statement in the show is saying that kindness is cool.”

Performing one-man shows has become a regular gig for Foley, who feels like he gets better at them with each stop.

“I think with anything, you get better with practice,” he told Orlando Weekly. “The more reps you get in, the more natural it feels. And the more natural it feels, the better the show is. The stories are always evolving and changing. I can honestly say I never get bored of doing these shows. I really enjoy them, and I enjoy seeing the smiles and hearing the laughs.”

WWE has not commented publicly on Foley’s decision to part ways with the promotion. Both Foley and Trump are members of the WWE Hall of Fame, with Trump being a celebrity inductee.
