UFC 299 live results: Sean O’Malley vs. Marlon Vera 2

The Octagon returns to the Sunshine State for a massive event with UFC 299 from the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley makes his first title defense in a heated rematch against rival Marlon Vera. The two fought in August 2020 in a fight Vera won by first round TKO after O’Malley suffered an ankle injury. Since then, O’Malley hasn’t lost in his rise to become champion as he looks to avenge the only loss of his career.

The co-main event sees Dustin Poirier vs. Benoit Saint-Denis in a five-round lightweight bout. Also on the main card is the UFC debut of former Bellator star Michael “Venom” Page, who takes on Kevin Holland in welterweight action; former title challenger Gilbert Burns vs. Jack Della Maddalena in a welterweight bout; and former UFC bantamweight champion Petr Yan looking to get back in the win column against Song Yadong.

The prelims are loaded with lots of talent including Curtis Blaydes, Maycee Barber, Pedro Munhoz, Michel Pereira, Mateusz Gamrot, Katlyn Cerminara, Ion Cutelaba, Joanne Wood, Jailton Almeida and former UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos.

Wood throwing kicks to start. They trade and Moroz is able to get a takedown. Moroz with some body shots from the top. Wood with an elbow from the bottom. Moroz with more body shots from the top then lands to the head. Moroz with more punches from the top. Moroz looking to set up an arm-triangle choke as she continues to land to the body. She lets go and lands some left hands. Wood goes for the leg. Moroz maintains top position and continues to land. Moroz with some heavy punches. 10-9 Moroz.

Almabayev shoots for a takedown but Vergara sprawls. Almabayev pushes it to the fence and secures the takedown. They get to their feet. Almabayev gets a brief takedown and has the back. Despaigne lands a right hand and slips on a head kick. Despaigne then drops Parisian with a big right hand and it is all over.

Pereira with a pair of body kicks. He lands another hard body kick then a big right hand to the body. Pereira with some knees then locks in a rear-naked choke. It is in deep and Oleksiejczuk goes out cold. What a showing from Pereira!

Lins with a leg kick. He lands another. Cutelaba with an inside leg kick. Lins with another leg kick. Cutelaba with a leg kick and Lins returns one. Lins with a leg kick and Cutelaba just misses some punches and eats another leg kick from Lins. Cutelaba trips Lins up with some kicks but he gets up and they trade punches. Lins looks for a takedown as he has a leg but lets go. Cutelaba lands an elbow and Lins counters with a right hand and leg kick. Lins with a right hand then a leg kick then a combo. They trade in a wild exchange. They have a wild exchange against the fence and Lins lands a leg kick. 10-9 Lins.

The Octagon is back in San Antonio for the first time since July 2019, closing out the month of March with a card headlined by an exciting bantamweight match-up that fans have been looking forward to.

Both men are looking to secure that next shot in the bantamweight division. Vera has yet to fight for a title, but is coming off a win over Dominick Cruz in his last outing. Sandhagen has fought for an interim title once before, but wants a shot at the undisputed title as he looks to build on a win over Song Yadong in September.

In the co-main event, former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion looks to get back on track towards another title shot when she battles Yana Santos. Also on the main card is an exciting featherweight bout between Nate Landwehr and Austin Lingo, a women’s flyweight fight pitting Andrea Lee against Maycee Barber, and a heated flyweight fight between contenders Alex Perez and Manel Kape.

Welcome to our live coverage of UFC on ESPN 41, emanating from the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California — the Octagon’s first appearance in the city since July 2015.

The show is headlined by former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz vs. Marlon Vera — a pivotal bantamweight bout between two Southern California fighters looking to get themselves into the crowded title picture at 135 pounds.

Cruz is headlining a UFC event for the first time since January 2016 as the former WEC bantamweight champion looks to score his third straight win following victories over Casey Kenney and Pedro Munhoz.

Vera is looking to notch the biggest win of his career into his second straight UFC main event. He enters Saturday on a three-fight win streak after scoring a decision over Rob Font in April. 

The main card also features a featherweight bout that could produce fireworks between Nate Landwehr and David Onama; a light heavyweight bout with Devin Clark battling Azamat Murzakanov; a women’s bantamweight fight pitting Priscila Cachoeira against Ariane Lipski; and a middleweight bout with Bruno Silva taking on Gerald Meerschaert.

The UFC closes out the month of May back at the UFC Apex for the third straight week, this time with a bantamweight battle between two contenders trying to break into the title picture.

Fifth-ranked bantamweight Rob Font takes on eighth-ranked bantamweight Marlon Vera in the five-round headline bout. Both men are coming off of fights against future UFC Hall Of Famers, as Font is looking to rebound from a decision loss to Jose Aldo in December, while Vera is coming off a third-round knockout of Frankie Edgar in November.

Also on the main card is a heavyweight bout between former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski and Jake Collier, Andre Fili meets Joanderson Brito in featherweight action, Jared Gooden takes on Grant Dawson in a lightweight bout, Darren Elkins battles Tristan Connelly in a featherweight fight, and the main card starts off with a middleweight bout between Krzysztof Jotko and Gerald Meerschaert.

Levy throws a high kick and they fall to the mat and Levy went for a kneebar but Breeden escapes. There is a groin strike and a timeout and they trade big shots when they get back to action.
