Janel Grant’s attorney issues statement on ‘Mr. McMahon’ docuseries

Janel Grant’s attorney has issued a statement regarding the Mr. McMahon docuseries released today on Netflix.

Grant has filed a lawsuit against former WWE chairman Vince McMahon, former WWE talent relations head John Laurinaitis, and WWE accusing McMahon of sexual assault and human trafficking of Grant.

The statement from Grant’s attorney Ann Callis reads:

“The ‘Mr. McMahon’ docuseries makes it clear there is no difference between Vince McMahon’s on-air persona and his true self, they are one and the same. His “character” – known for violent outbursts, sexual deviance, and manipulation – is the real Vince McMahon and exactly what Janel Grant experienced behind closed doors at WWE for years.

While the docuseries put McMahon’s obsession with power and control on full display, it only scratches the surface of his criminal behavior and it fails to tell the full story of his abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking of Ms. Grant. She deserves the opportunity to tell her story, on her own time, and in her own way. We look forward to her day in court and to seeing McMahon at last held accountable for his actions.”

Janel Grant’s attorney responds to Vince McMahon’s statement on ‘Mr. McMahon’ docuseries

Janel Grant’s representation has released a statement regarding Vince McMahon’s message on social media.

Grant’s attorney Ann Callis responded to McMahon’s post on social media Monday where he dismissed the series, which premieres Tuesday night. He briefly mentioned the lawsuit, labeling it as “an affair I ended”.

“Vince McMahon physically and emotionally abused, sexually assaulted and human trafficked Janel Grant for more than two years. Calling his horrific and criminal behavior “an affair” is delusional and nothing more than a sad attempt to save his shredded reputation,” Callis’ statement reads. “Although Ms. Grant has not seen the “Mr. McMahon” docuseries, we hope it shines a bright light on his abhorrent and criminal actions by accurately portraying the realities of his abusive and exploitative behavior. “Ms. Grant will no longer be silenced by McMahon.”

“Her story, though deeply troubling and exceptionally painful, is one that can help other abuse survivors find their voices. We seek to hold McMahon, John Laurinaitis and WWE accountable and to give Ms. Grant her day in court.”

In his statement, McMahon said that the docuseries aimed to confuse viewers between his on-air character, Mr. McMahon, and himself.

In January, Grant launched her lawsuit against McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE. In June, the judge officially paused the lawsuit at the request of the Justice Department, which is conducting its own investigation against McMahon. The lawsuit is set to resume in December.

Attorney: Janel Grant deserves to tell her own story, not be part of someone else’s

With the release of Netflix’s “Mr. McMahon” docuseries approaching, representatives for Janel Grant held a virtual press briefing on Thursday.

Grant’s attorney Ann Callis and Kendra Barkoff Lamy of public relations firm SKDK conducted the briefing. On the subject of whether Grant was asked to appear in Netflix’s series, Callis said Grant deserves the opportunity to tell her own story — not be part of someone else’s.

“We have not seen the documentary. Janel deserves the opportunity to tell her full story, not be a part of someone else’s. She will get her day in court, and [Vince] McMahon will be held accountable,” Callis said. “And Janel has the right to tell her story in her own way at the right time.”

Callis said she hopes the series does Grant’s story justice.

“Janel’s story is an important one, and we hope Neftlix’s docuseries does it justice,” Callis said. “Her experience is integral to an accurate and whole retelling of the story of the WWE and Mr. McMahon.”

Grant, an ex-WWE employee, filed a lawsuit this January accusing McMahon of physical and emotional abuse, sexual assault, and sex trafficking. The lawsuit also lists John Laurinaitis and WWE as defendants. Callis said, because of the cruelty that was inflicted on her, Grant suffers from severe post-traumatic stress disorder, suicidal ideation, and cannot leave her house for weeks at a time.

Callis was asked whether they have heard from WWE since the lawsuit was filed.

“There was some initial outreach right after the lawsuit was filed,” she responded during the briefing. “Very brief, and we have really not heard anything since then.”

Grant’s lawsuit is paused until December while the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York conducts a criminal investigation into McMahon. Callis said — if there are any charges against McMahon — Grant’s team would like those to be brought “expeditiously” so her lawsuit can resume as soon as possible. But Callis said they are not frustrated with the time the SDNY investigation is taking.

“We want it to be right, not fast,” she said.

McMahon resigned from WWE in January after Grant’s lawsuit was filed. He maintains his innocence and has called Grant’s allegations “baseless.”

Netflix’s “Mr. McMahon” docuseries premieres next Wednesday (September 25) with all six one-hour episodes available to stream.

Janel Grant retains PR Firm SKDK ahead of ‘Mr. McMahon’ docuseries premiere

Janel Grant has retained the services of public relations firm SKDK ahead of the Vince McMahon docuseries releasing on Netflix next week.

SKDK’s Kendra Barkoff Lamy will be working with Grant’s team ahead of the September 25 premiere of “Mr. McMahon.” The firm has previously worked with the survivors of Harvey Weinstein, Marilyn Manson, Jeffrey Epstein and the former employees of the Washington Commanders in their lawsuit against then-team owner, Dan Snyder.

Grant’s lawyer, Ann Callis, issued the following statement in a press release on Wednesday:

“SKDK has a proven track record of uplifting survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking. We look forward to our partnership in seeking justice on behalf of our client Janel Grant.”

Barkoff Lamy issued the following statement:

“Janel Grant is a survivor of incomprehensible abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking at the hands of Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, and WWE. She has courageously come forward to seek justice for herself and other survivors, and we are honored to support her in sharing her story. It takes immense strength to speak out against Goliaths and we encourage all survivors of sexual harassment, assault and human trafficking to seek the support they need.”

Grant will continue to be represented by The Agency Group as well.

Janel Grant/Vince McMahon update: Dr. Carlon Colker withdraws his complaint

Celebrity doctor Carlon Colker has withdraw his petition/complaint against Janel Grant in an adjacent development to the Grant vs. Vince McMahon lawsuit.

Following Grant’s petition in July seeking medical records related to Grant’s treatment at the clinic as it pertained to her ongoing sex trafficking lawsuit against WWE, McMahon, and John Laurinaitis, Colker and his Peak Wellness facility filed a complaint against Grant in August alleging her efforts were part of a “smear campaign.”

Grant’s team then filed a motion to strike the complaint and file a special motion for sanctions against both Colker and Peak Wellness including attorney costs awarded to Grant.

The complaint was withdrawn by Colker’s legal team on Wednesday while Grant’s petition against Colker and Peak Wellness remains in place.

Colker was identified as the “celebrity doctor” in the initial Grant lawsuit where she alleges McMahon directed her to Peak Wellness in Greenwich, CT, to receive IV infusions and supplements without knowing what she was talking. She said the medical records provided by Colker to this point are both inconsistent and incomplete.

In a statement to Post Wrestling, Grant attorney Ann Callis stated that “Unsurprisingly, Dr. Colker has withdrawn his baseless motion. In the same vein as Mr. McMahon’s recently struck down motion, this was filed simply as yet another frivolous attempt to intimidate Ms. Grant.”

Janel Grant will not appear in ‘Mr. McMahon,’ was approached for interview

Janel Grant will not appear in the upcoming Netflix docuseries on Vince McMahon.

According to a report from Brandon Thurston, the producers of “Mr. McMahon” reached out to Grant’s team to interview her for the project but were unable to secure her participation.

“Netflix’s documentary group made initial outreach to Janel’s representation for an interview for this project,” a spokesperson for Grant sent to POST Wrestling. “Despite this, no such interview came to fruition.”

The report continued to state that filmmakers reached out several times but that Grant ultimately decided not to take part.

“Mr. McMahon” will debut on Netflix beginning on September 25. All six episodes are scheduled to be released at once.

A description of the project reads as follows:

“Mr. McMahon’ chronicles the rise and fall of Vince McMahon, controversial businessman and co-founder of WWE. From his transformation of the WWE from a small, regional business into a global entertainment powerhouse to the explosive sexual misconduct allegations that led to his eventual resignation, this six-episode series offers a deep dive into McMahon’s life and his enduring franchise. Culled from over 200 hours of interviews with McMahon himself (prior to his resignation), his family members, business associates and some of the most iconic names in wrestling history, as well as the journalists who uncovered McMahon’s allegations — filmmaker Chris Smith (‘Tiger King’) and executive producer Bill Simmons (’30 for 30′) present an unflinching, no-holds-barred look at one of the most enigmatic figures in sports entertainment.

Cody Rhodes says he doesn’t know enough about Vince McMahon allegations to comment

Cody Rhodes commented on the Vince McMahon allegations and the upcoming docuseries focused on him.

During the WWE Bash in Berlin press conference Saturday afternoon, a reporter asked about whether Rhodes personally believed Janel Grant’s allegations against McMahon, noting the locker room was “awfully silent” about the allegations, and if he was going to watch the upcoming McMahon docuseries on Netflix.

“In terms of if I’m going to watch it, not to sound cheeky by any means, I am deep in a Game of Thrones rewatch and that is a hell of a lot of commitment. I think there’s a bit of misinformation in terms of WWE has no involvement in this documentary as far as I know. I imagine I would get around to seeing it,” Rhodes said.

Regarding the locker room being quiet about the allegations, Rhodes said it was a matter of focusing on what they do in the ring:

In terms of the more serious meat in your question in terms of the locker room being quiet or silent, whatever it may be, I don’t think that is a matter of belief versus nonbelief, I think its strictly speaking…we want to be doing what we were doing out there and the focus and the attention that it takes, you know, 13,149 people to have a great story and have a great match and do that every single night has left most of us where we’re finding the information out just as you are and that includes the resolution of this information in terms of what happened, how it happened, and how justice comes about, whatever it may be. But I wouldn’t look at it as an active attempt from the locker room to be silent in any attempt, we’re just are doing what we do day-to-day WWE business.

Rhodes was asked again by another reporter if he believed Janel Grant.

“Again, I don’t know enough about the information to give you a good enough answer there. I’m sorry,” he said.

Grant filed the lawsuit in January, accusing McMahon of sexual assault and sex trafficking. The suit is currently on pause through December as the Justice Department continues its investigation against McMahon.

Janel Grant files to strike complaint by Dr. Colker, Peak Wellness

The legal battle involving Janel Grant, Peak Wellness, and Dr. Carlon Colker continued today.

Grant filed a petition in Connecticut court last month seeking to obtain medical records related to her treatment with Colker and Peak Wellness. She alleges in the filing that her visits to the clinic were arranged through Vince McMahon.

In response, attorneys for Colker and Peak Wellness filed an official complaint, stating that Grant’s petition was part of a “smear campaign” related to her lawsuit against McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis.

Today, Grant’s attorneys filed a motion to strike the complaint and a special motion for sanctions against Colker and Peak Wellness including attorney costs awarded to Grant.

“In a desperate and brazen attempt to silence a former patient investigating wrongdoing related to her medical care, Dr. Colker and his practice, Peak Wellness, filed this vexatious bill of discovery. Dr. Colker and Peak Wellness hope to intimidate Ms. Grant into dropping her own pre- action discovery petition against them, in which she seeks her own medical records and related documentation.,” today’s filing reads.

“Dr. Colker stonewalled Ms. Grant’s repeated records requests for months until she filed a Bill of Discovery against him to gain access to her own medical records and documentation related to her medical care.”

“Instead of complying, Dr. Colker responded with this frivolous and retaliatory bill of discovery. Dr. Colker and Peak Wellness brought this action for an improper purpose, to intimidate and harass a former patient for daring to seek her own patient records. This action should be stricken and dismissed in its entirety with costs and attorneys’ fees awarded in favor of Ms. Grant.”

“The Colker Bill of Discovery identifies three claims Dr. Colker proposes to investigate: defamation, tortious interference with business relations, and negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress.”

“These tort claims cannot be predicated on privileged statements made in court, which are absolutely protected under the litigation privilege, or on press statements or news articles relating to those pleadings, which are protected by the fair report privilege. Because Plaintiffs plead only statements contained in or related to court pleadings, there is no probable cause to support their Bill of Discovery. Moreover, Plaintiffs’ purported claims constitute an illegal attempt to chill Ms. Grant from speaking out about her treatment at the practice, and must be dismissed under Connecticut’s Anti-SLAPP statute as an impermissible infringement in her exercise of free speech related to a matter of public health and concern.”

“Even if they had plead probable cause—which they did not—the Colker Bill of Discovery must be stricken because it was filed in bad faith. Connecticut law established the bill of discovery as an equitable remedy. Where a plaintiff seeks equitable relief, he must show that his conduct has been fair, equitable and honest as to the controversy in issue. Dr. Colker and Peak Wellness cannot meet this burden. Dr. Colker participated in the mistreatment of Plaintiff by her former employers, Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Entertainment.”

Court records show that Grant was personally served the Colker’s Bill of Discovery by a State Marshal. Today’s filing takes issue with it being served to her in that manner rather than through her attorneys.

“Then, in a move calculated to cause Ms. Grant extreme emotional distress, Plaintiffs sent a marshal to effect personal service of this complaint on Ms. Grant at her home, despite knowing she was represented by counsel. Finally, Plaintiffs returned their complaint to this court after the District of Connecticut ruled that the Grant Bill of Discovery did not violate the temporary stay of her Federal Action. Plaintiffs made no effort to correct their false claim to the contrary before or after filing—instead, they rushed to the courthouse to return this complaint and, upon information and belief, leaked a copy to the press. Dr. Colker and Peak Wellness’ unclean hands disqualify them from receiving the equitable relief they seek.”

“Sanctions are warranted where, as here, a plaintiff (a) with impunity, and without legal justification, misuses our court system to harass, intimidate and publicly malign a former patient and (b) demonstrates a lack of candor to the court, which is reflected in the objectively false statements that are contained in the verified pleading. This Court should protect Ms. Grant and all Peak Wellness’ clients by sending a clear message that such behavior is unacceptable and that Connecticut courts will not allow a doctor to leverage the judicial system to avoid accountability to their patients.”

“Ms. Grant respectfully requests that this Court dismiss and strike the Colker Bill of Discovery, and impose sanctions sufficient to deter Dr. Colker and Peak Wellness from abusing the legal process to harass former patients or avoid his obligations to timely and completely disclose patient records.”

Vince McMahon’s counsel, Jessica Taub Rosenberg, partner, Akin Gump, issued the following statement to WON/F4W and other media outlets:

“Ms. Grant first brought frivolous litigation to publicly harm Mr. McMahon’s reputation. Then, despite agreeing to pause it at the Government’s request, she continued to publicly harass Mr. McMahon and those connected to him by initiating another frivolous action against Dr. Colker and talking to the media about it.  Mr. McMahon will continue to use every tool at his disposal to end this malicious and meritless pursuit by Ms. Grant.”

The full complaint filed on Monday is available here.

Doctor files complaint denying any wrongdoing in treatment of Janel Grant

A new update is available regarding Janel Grant’s petition for her medical records from Peak Wellness and her lawsuit against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinitis.

Grant recently filed a petition in a Connecticut court to obtain medical records related to her treatment at Peak Wellness with Dr. Carlon Colker, which she alleges were arranged by McMahon.

Attorneys for Colker and Peak Wellness have since filed an official complaint in response to Grant’s petition, alleging that it is part of a “smear campaign” related to her lawsuit against McMahon, WWE, and Laurinaitis.

“Grant is engaging in a smear campaign against (Colker and Peak Wellness) in order to bolster her well-publicized allegations concerning alleged sex trafficking and sexual assault,” the complaint reads.

The complaint also asks that Grant “provide information concerning her activities in intentionally fostering patent lies and material misstatements” related to her treatment at the clinic and that this information could potentially be used in legal action against her.

“Plaintiffs believe that this information shall provide ample basis for claims by Plaintiffs against Grant for, among other things, defamation, tortious interference with business relations, and negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress on Dr. Colker.”

The complaint continues to deny any wrongdoing concerning Grant’s treatment.

“Grant’s claim that Dr. Colker or any of the staff at Peak Wellness ever intentionally withheld any information from her regarding her care is recklessly and harmfully false. Grant’s suggestion that Dr. Colker or any of the staff at Peak Wellness ever surreptitiously avoided and/or refused to explain any of the substances, dosages, or purpose of the vitamins Grant was provided, is recklessly and harmfully false. Grant’s claim that Dr. Colker gave her “pushback” simply because she inquired as to the specifics of what vitamins she was provided, is recklessly and harmfully false. Grant’s suggestion that Dr. Colker or any of the staff at Peak Wellness ever surreptitiously avoided and/or refused to explain any of the substances, dosages, or purpose of the IV fluids Ms. Grant was provided, is recklessly and harmfully false.”

The full complaint is available here. Key parts are highlighted below:

“The Plaintiffs, Carlon M. Colker, M.D. and Peak Wellness, Inc. bring this Verified Complaint for a Bill of Discovery to compel the defendant Janel Grant to provide information concerning her activities in intentionally fostering patent lies and material misstatements concerning her interactions with and treatment by Plaintiffs. Plaintiffs believe that this information shall provide ample basis for claims by Plaintiffs against Grant for, among other things, defamation, tortious interference with business relations, and negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress on Dr. Colker.”

“Upon information and belief, Grant is engaging in a smear campaign against Plaintiffs in order to bolster her well-publicized allegations concerning alleged sex trafficking and sexual assault by World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. n/k/a World Wrestling Entertainment, LLC (“WWE), Vincent K. McMahon (“McMahon”) and John Laurinaitis (“Laurinaitis”).”

“Dr. Colker and Peak are not named as defendants in the Grant v. WWE Federal Action; Grant has asserted no allegations of wrongdoing against Dr. Colker and Peak in the Grant v. WWE Federal Action despite referencing her alleged treatment by a ‘Celebrity Doctor’ and ‘Alternative Clinic’ in the WWE Federal Action Complaint.”

“In sum, Grant’s claim that Dr. Colker and the staff at Peak Wellness might have ever in any way been involved as “…civil conspirators in her pending claims against McMahon and the WWE”, to further imply that Dr. Colker and the staff at Peak Wellness would or could have ever engaged in “…falsifying medical records, Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (“RICO”) violations, RICO conspiracy, assault, battery, and/or breaches of fiduciary against Ms. Grant,” and that Dr. Colker and the staff at Peak Wellness ever may have had anything whatsoever to do with the injurious fabrication of “…..civil conspiracy, aiding and abetting, fraud, assault, battery, RICO, RICO conspiracy, and/or breach of fiduciary duty…” is recklessly and harmfully false, and has proved damaging in the extreme to both Dr. Colker and Peak Wellness.”

“‘Ms. Grant’s petition for pre-action discovery against Dr. Colker is a direct violation of the court-ordered stay, and nothing more than an attempt to generate publicity on her false allegations and to harass people connected to Mr. McMahon, who is being sued by Ms. Grant in a separate matter,’ a spokesperson for McMahon said Tuesday afternoon in response to a request for comment for this report.”

Judge denies Vince McMahon’s motion to enforce stay order in Janel Grant lawsuit

Vince McMahon’s motion to enforce a federal court’s stay order against Janel Grant has been denied.

Grant filed a petition in the state of Connecticut last month seeking to obtain medical records related to her treatment with Dr. Carlon Colker at Peak Wellness, which she alleges were arranged through McMahon. The following week, McMahon’s lawyers argued that Grant filing the petition violated the federal stay order that had been placed on Grant’s lawsuit against McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis back in June.

“After telling the Federal Court that she would pause her lawsuit, Ms. Grant immediately violated the Stay Order seeking one-sided discovery for her own benefit,” McMahon’s lawyer Jessica Taub said in response to Grant’s petition.

McMahon’s lawyers asked the court to prevent Grant from obtaining the materials from Peak Wellness. They also asked that Grant be subject to contempt and financial sanction.

Grant’s lawyers responded that the petition wasn’t subject to the federal stay order since it was filed in a state court and neither Dr. Colker nor Peak Wellness are defendants in Grant’s lawsuit against McMahon and WWE.

“We did not violate a federal stay by filing a state action against a non-defendant,” Grant’s lawyer Ann Callis responded.

Today, Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer ruled that the stay order does not apply to Grant’s petition to obtain medical records from Peak Wellness.

“The Court does not interpret its entry of the stay order to apply to state court proceedings that are outside the scope of discovery prescribed by the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure governing the conduct of discovery in federal court litigation.”

“Federal district courts do not ordinarily regulate or sit in review of proceedings in state courts, and the Court’s stay order did not purport to extend to any state court proceedings. If there is any objection to state court proceedings, relief should in state court rather than in this Court. Accordingly, the Court DENIES defendant McMahon’s motion to enforce the Court’s stay order for failure to show that there has been a violation of the Court’s stay order. It is so ordered.”

On Wednesday, McMahon’s lawyer offered the following statement to WON/F4W and other media:

“Ms. Grant’s attempt to seek discovery in state court despite a stay in federal court exemplifies her consistently deceitful behavior and lack of integrity; we will, per the Federal Court’s order, continue to pursue a court order to stop her,” Jessica Taub Rosenberg, partner, Akin Gump, counsel to Vince McMahon

Vince McMahon files motion to lift court-ordered pause in Janel Grant lawsuit

The legal team of Vince McMahon filed a motion on Thursday to lift a court-ordered stay of the Janel Grant lawsuit.

The suit filed against himself, WWE and John Laurinaitis was put on pause in mid-June by judge Jeffrey Meyer after both sides agreed to do so based on a request from the Department of Justice as a federal investigation into McMahon continues. That meant the earliest the suit could resume would be December 11, 2024.

In a statement to Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston Thursday, McMahon lawyer Jessica Taub Rosenberg stated the following:

“Today’s motion is in response to Ms. Grant’s flagrant violation of the federal Stay Order. After telling the Federal Court that she would pause her lawsuit, Ms. Grant immediately violated the Stay Order seeking one-sided discovery for her own benefit. Her lawyer told the media that the information sought in the new Connecticut state action is ‘to assist in our claims in the federal action.’ We are asking the federal Court to ensure that Plaintiff abides by the Court’s order and if she does not that civil contempt and financial sanctions may result.”

It’s assumed the state action is Grant’s attorneys submitting a pre-action discovery petition against both Peak Wellness and its owner/CEO Carlon Colker seeking medical records related to Grant’s treatment at the clinic as it concerns the sex trafficking lawsuit against WWE, McMahon and Laurinaitis.
