Triple H teases Goldberg WWE return: ‘We’ll talk more very soon’

After his appearance at Bad Blood, WWE is continuing to tease that we’ll be seeing more of Goldberg.

Goldberg — who has not wrestled since 2022 — was in Atlanta on Saturday for an angle with World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. When Gunther mocked him and his son Gage, Goldberg attempted to confront Gunther. Security kept them apart, but Goldberg warned Gunther that he’s “next.”

At the post-show press conference, Paul “Triple H” Levesque gave a “never say never” answer while addressing if we could see Goldberg compete in a WWE ring again.

Levesque then made a social media post today thanking Goldberg for attending Bad Blood. It includes audio of the two speaking backstage at the event. While there’s no audio of their conversation, Levesque wrote that he and Goldberg will talk more very soon.

The 57-year-old Goldberg has said he would love to return to the ring for a retirement match. As of now, his last match was a loss to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022.

Gunther has a World Heavyweight Championship defense against Sami Zayn on Raw tonight (October 7). If Gunther retains, he’ll face Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia next month.

Triple H on Goldberg wrestling one more WWE match: ‘Never say never’

Triple H is keeping an open mind regarding Goldberg returning to WWE.

Goldberg was seated ringside in Atlanta at Bad Blood last night and ended up in a confrontation with World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. The segment concluded with Goldberg telling Gunther he’s “next,” leaving many to wonder if we could see the former WCW Champion back in a WWE ring.

During the post-event press conference, Triple H was asked about Goldberg wrestling another match for the company. He responded:

“Atlanta loves Bill Goldberg and that’s why he was here tonight,” Triple H said. “He was with his wife and his son. Always going to get a huge reaction here enjoying the show. You know, things get said. I can tell you when Bill came back he was not too happy with Gunther and we’ll see.”

“The further you go time catches up with all of us and so the further you go those talks get further and further away from reality. But I don’t know, I saw Bill earlier in the day and it was great. And I saw Bill later in the day and there was a different look on his face with a spark in his eye. So, I would say ‘never say never.’”

Goldberg’s last match was at Elimination Chamber 2022 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where he lost a six-minute match to Roman Reigns. The 57-year-old has said on multiple occasions that he does not want that to be his last match and would like to have a retirement bout or tour to end his career.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio in June, Goldberg said he’d “love” to have another match but he first needs to take care of a torn rotator cuff.

“Oh, man, I’d love to, dude — 100 percent,” Goldberg said on the show. “But I have to get my torn rotator cuff taken care of finally.”

“I ain’t doing sh*t until I get that done,” he continued. “And that’s hopefully coming up — I’m doing stem cells here soon and then I’m going to see if surgery is needed. But yeah, man, I’d love to have one more match. You know how it is. Vince [McMahon] and I spoke about it. He gave me his word. But all that stuff happened. And, hey, man, I don’t hold grudges. Vince gave me so many opportunities, man, I’ll be forever grateful. But yeah, I would absolutely love to have that final match. I would. Am I good not having it? Yeah, I’m fine with it. But it’d be neat to have one.”

Goldberg appears at WWE Bad Blood, tells Gunther he’s ‘next’

Goldberg made an appearance at WWE Bad Blood and teased potentially getting back in the ring.

After being shown in the front row with his son Gage earlier in the night, Goldberg took part in an angle with World Heavyweight Champion Gunther. Gunther insulted Goldberg, calling him a “one-trick-pony” and saying he hopes Goldberg is a better father than he is a professional wrestler.

That led to Goldberg coming over the barricade and attempting to go after Gunther, but security kept them apart. While that happened, Sami Zayn — who is challenging Gunther for the World Heavyweight title on Raw this coming Monday — took the opportunity to attack Gunther and brawl with him.

Goldberg then issued a warning to Gunther before posing for the crowd.

“You’re next, boy,” Goldberg declared.

Bad Blood was held in Atlanta, where Goldberg once played football for the Atlanta Falcons. His son Gage is currently a freshman linebacker for the University of Colorado, being coached by Goldberg’s old teammate Deion Sanders.

Whether a Goldberg vs. Gunther match will happen remains to be seen. The 57-year-old Goldberg hasn’t wrestled since 2022 but has said he’s still hoping to return to the ring for a retirement match. He’s blamed Vince McMahon for going back on his word and not giving Goldberg a promised retirement match when McMahon was in charge of WWE.

Gunther’s segment at Bad Blood also included Paul “Triple H” Levesque announcing that WWE will determine its first-ever Crown Jewel Champions in Saudi Arabia next month. Currently, the two Crown Jewel title matches are scheduled to be Gunther vs. Cody Rhodes and Liv Morgan vs. Nia Jax.

  • Michael Oku spoke to Cultaholic about his upcoming AEW American Championship match against MJF that will take place for RevPro in London on August 11:
    • Yeah, it’s a very, very wild time in professional wrestling. Everybody says that. I’ve been hearing people say that away from me. And now it’s come to me. I’m now part of the example of how wild wrestling is in 2024. Obviously, this is a huge, huge thing for me. You know, I’m challenging for the title, but what’s cool about this is the fact that it gets more eyes onto RevPro. There are a lot of people who will now be tuning in to see who I am, then in turn the rest of the RevPro roster and the rest of the matches.
    • What’s funny is that no matter what [MJF] says and he has said a lot, he said a lot in his promo and he does the whole thing of being confident and insulting the country, insulting me by calling me scrawny, what he can’t change is that factually, he challenged me. I didn’t put in some application form or try [to] message people like Tony Khan or Chris Jericho. I was just here putting full focus into the Copper Box. And he said ‘I want to wrestle Michael Oku.’ So no matter what he says in terms of insults, he can’t change that fact… I am sure I am going to shock the world once again.

Goldberg: Tony Khan reminds me of Dixie Carter, I don’t know if that’s good or bad

Goldberg sees some similarities between AEW founder Tony Khan and former TNA Wrestling boss Dixie Carter.

Earlier this year, Goldberg said he had talked with AEW a number of times in the past but wasn’t interested in joining the promotion because he thought their product was “too cheesy.” Khan responded by saying he has a lot of respect for Goldberg, but he was surprised by those comments because that wasn’t what Goldberg said to him during their conversations. Khan said Goldberg wanted to work in AEW.

The subject of AEW came up during Goldberg’s interview on the latest episode of Insight with Chris Van Vliet. Goldberg said it’s hard for him to judge the AEW product because he doesn’t really watch it — he only sees clips. Goldberg added that Khan reminds him of Dixie Carter but didn’t elaborate on what makes the two similar. Carter met with Goldberg when she was in charge of TNA, but he never signed with the promotion.

“I think we have a different perspective on it [why talks with AEW didn’t lead to anything],” Goldberg said. “I don’t know. I mean, it’s hard for me to really pass judgment on their production because I don’t watch it. I see clips of it. And it’s hard to give a rational breakdown of how they are if I don’t really watch it. So, I don’t really know. He reminds me of Dixie Carter, but a male version. I don’t know if it’s a good or a bad thing. But he reminds me of that scenario. And it’s just a different feel. It’s just different.”

Goldberg noted that he and AEW were never close on agreeing to a deal.

“No, I don’t think I was ever close to making a deal with him. I think it was much more a realistic transition when Sting was involved,” Goldberg said. “Because that’s why — I reached out to Sting because I wanted to be a part, I thought he and I could do a farewell thing at some point together. But it wasn’t about me. It was about Sting. And I didn’t want — I could never overshadow anything that he does, but I don’t want to convolute the waters. It would have been a nice crescendo, but it wasn’t about me. So the timing was kind of off on that one.”

Goldberg hasn’t wrestled since 2022, but he would love to return to the ring for a final match. He told Busted Open Radio last month that he has a torn rotator cuff that needs to be taken care of before that can happen.

Goldberg would love to have final match, needs to take care of injury first

Goldberg still wants to return to the ring for another match — but he has an injury issue he needs to take care of first.

While appearing on Busted Open Radio this week, Goldberg was asked about potentially having one final match. He would love for that to happen, but he has a torn rotator cuff that he’s been dealing with for a while. Goldberg needs to finally get the injury fixed before he wrestles again.

“Oh, man, I’d love to, dude — 100 percent,” Goldberg said. “But I have to get my torn rotator cuff taken care of finally.”

Goldberg said the injury happened when he first returned to WWE against Brock Lesnar in 2016. Because he only wrestled sparingly, he never told anyone about the injury and kept working through it. He’s having stem cell treatment done soon and will then see if surgery is necessary.

“I ain’t doing sh*t until I get that done,” he said.

Goldberg has not wrestled since losing to Roman Reigns at WWE Elimination Chamber 2022 in Saudi Arabia. On Busted Open Radio, he said his final match wouldn’t need to take place in WWE. Goldberg said he could do the promotion himself with potential matches in Israel, India, Japan, and the United States. That retirement tour is something he’s talked about before but has not come to fruition yet.

“I’ll be honest with you, I have no idea,” Goldberg said about who he’d like to face in his last match. “I haven’t even thought about it, not for two seconds.” He was hoping over the past couple of years that Sting would be his opponent, but he didn’t want to take away from what Sting had going on with his own retirement.

Goldberg to Bret Hart: I love you, grow up and don’t be such a prick

Goldberg spoke about Bret Hart during a recent interview.

The WWE Hall of Famer was a guest on Tuesday’s episode of Busted Open Radio to discuss Vice’s Who Killed WCW docuseries. Goldberg was asked about the kick he hit Hart with at Starrcade 99 and the criticism Hart has levied against him since.

“The Bret Hart thing, it just saddens me as a human being, that’s all,” Goldberg said. “First and foremost, I would never wish ill will upon any opponent or anyone like that. To have an accident like that happen and end someone’s career, especially someone who’s one of the best that ever was, 100 percent, it sucks. I’m not asking anybody to understand it, I’m just saying leave me alone.”

“It is what it is, come on, man. I love you, Bret, don’t be such a prick, that’s all. Grow up.”

Bully Ray asked Goldberg what would happen if Hart and Goldberg were in the same place at the same time today.

“I always said I was going to kill him but, you know me, I can’t do that. I love the guy, he’s an icon, right? Just get over it, that’s all, I’m sorry. What do you want me to do? As a human being, yeah, it saddens me that he can’t come to grips with the fact that it was…it sucks.”

Goldberg continued to say that he is not going to allow what happened to be a negative in his life.

“I’m not going to be a victim of it, not anymore. I feel bad but it’s not going to draw me down and be a negative in my life, by any stretch. It just is what it is.”

Goldberg also compared his conflict with Hart to the ones others have had with Ric Flair.

“It’s like having a beef with Flair at this age, 70-something years. Really? What are you going to do? Come on, please. I love you, you’re an icon just let’s move on. But it’s easy for me to say move on when it’s not me and it didn’t end my career so next question.”

Tony Khan responds to Goldberg, says he wanted to work in AEW

Tony Khan has responded to Goldberg.

Last week, Goldberg made headlines for saying he is not interested in signing with AEW, saying the company’s product is “too cheesy.”

“I have talked to them a number of times throughout the past but this is where you’re going to get the most blunt answer you’re going to get from me: The product is too cheesy,” Goldberg said during an appearance on 93.7 The Ticket

The AEW president was asked about Goldberg’s comments during a recent appearance on The Superstar Crossover podcast.

Khan responded:

Bill wanted to work here! I met with Bill several times. Bill was looking to work here.

It’s funny because I had a bunch of really nice meetings with Bill and would have honestly been interested in doing something. Since you brought it up, I have a lot of respect for Bill but I was surprised by that because certainly that wasn’t what he said to me when he was talking to me about maybe working here at some point, which I’ve always been open to and I really like Bill. It’s all about timing and we’re doing a lot of exciting things here right now.

Khan continued to talk about Sting and Goldberg’s friendship and Sting’s send-off in AEW.

Khan continued:

I know Sting and Bill are good friends and I really like Bill and have respect for him but when I saw that, I mean, Bill’s talked to me about working here so I don’t think he had any problem with any of that content. Anybody who saw Sting’s send-off has had positive things to say so I’m not sure what that was about but I do respect Bill and like him very much.

Khan continued to say that Goldberg never expressed the same concerns regarding AEW’s content when they met.

He’s entitled to his opinion but certainly when I’ve talked to him in-person several times, in-person and in zooms and phone calls, we’ve had very nice conversations and he hasn’t said that but it’s good to know that’s how he feels. Maybe that’s an opinion he holds now but certainly, in our past conversations he’s always been a very positive, nice guy.

Khan’s full appearance on the podcast is available below.

Goldberg not interested in signing with AEW, says ‘product is too cheesy’

Goldberg isn’t interested in signing with AEW.

During an appearance on 93.7 The Ticket over the weekend, Goldberg said he’s had discussions with the company but said the product is “too cheesy.”

Goldberg said:

I have talked to them a number of times throughout the past but this is where you’re going to get the most blunt answer you’re going to get from me: The product is too cheesy. It doesn’t deserve to have…I mean, whatever.

If there was a comparable, viable option as a competitor that would allow me to still look myself in the mirror after I was a member of their roster, yeah, then it would be a consideration but not a chance.

Goldberg made headlines last month as well when he was critical of WWE having Asuka break his undefeated streak, referring to her as “some Japanese girl.”

“Asuka [mispronounced] was her name, some Japanese girl. And they touted her as being the one to have the longest winning streak. And it just so happened that that culminated when I got there, right?” Goldberg said to Tim Green – Nothing Left Unsaid.

Goldberg was also critical of Vince McMahon and WWE during an interview with the Steve & Captain Evil podcast in December. He believes the company went back on its promise to give him a retirement match after he agreed to wrestle Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022.

Goldberg: WWE had ‘some Japanese girl’ beat my undefeated streak

Bill Goldberg had some comments regarding his WWE career in a new podcast interview, including that WWE had “some Japanese girl” beat his undefeated streak.

Appearing as a guest on Tim Green – Nothing Left Unsaid, Goldberg spoke about Asuka setting a new record for most consecutive matches undefeated as he arrived in WWE for his second run with the company in 2016:

Well, a girl beat my winning streak… beat my undefeated streak. I can’t even remember…

Asuka [mispronounced] was her name, some Japanese girl. And they touted her as being the one to have the longest winning streak. And it just so happened that that culminated when I got there, right?

While Goldberg returned to WWE in 2016, Asuka debuted in NXT in 2015 and her undefeated streak in the company continued into her time on the main roster before losing to Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34 in 2018.

When Asuka won her 174th consecutive match to begin her WWE career surpassing Goldberg’s 173-0 WCW run [which also ignores that he lost his third career WCW match in 1997], Goldberg posted this congratulatory tweet:

Goldberg also spoke conspiratorially about a proliferation of wrestlers using the spear:

And then it just so happened that every single wrestler uses the spear in their moves, right? Pretty ironic that it happened when I got there, right?

When asked what may have caused friction between Goldberg and WWE, Goldberg cited his frosty relationship with now-CCO of WWE Paul “Triple H” Levesque:

The fact that I didn’t get along with Paul Levesque, which is Vince’s son-in-law, I think had everything to do with it when I got there.

In speaking about his feud with Triple H during his first WWE run in 2003-2004, Goldberg said:

I think a lot of that between Hunter and myself was real.

The full interview can be seen in the embedded video below.

Goldberg: Vince McMahon is a ‘piece of s**t,’ promised me retirement match

Goldberg called Vince McMahon a “piece of s**t” during a recent interview.

He appeared live on the Steve & Captain Evil podcast during their annual benefit for Helicopters for Heroes on Monday. During the show, Goldberg was asked by a member of the audience about his relationship with Vince McMahon.

Goldberg responded:

Vince is like Dana White. He’s the big boss and he makes everything happen but in all honesty he gave me the opportunity to put my wife and my son in the front row and gave me the ability to perform again in front of them. So I owe him everything, until we went to Saudi Arabia and he asked me to put Roman Reigns over and I had COVID.

I remember calling him from my house here and I said, ‘Listen here’s the deal, I’ll do it if you give me a retirement match.’

Goldberg continued:

So I put myself in a horribly shitty situation to get what I wanted to but to satiate him and to give him what he wants. The problem is, he never held up his part so Vince is a piece of shit as far as I’m concerned.

He also spoke about his relationship with Sting during the interview and revealed that he tried to be part of Sting’s upcoming retirement match at AEW Revolution.

Goldberg said:

Sting is the reason why I broke into the business. Sting set a great example. He’s about to retire in February and I tried to be a part of his retirement match, you know, but..

I wouldn’t have chosen to get into the world of professional wrestling if it wasn’t for Sting. Don”t take offense to this, he was a normal dude who went out and did abnormal things. Wrestling is like being in the circus, I mean it truly is. I never looked at it with much respect but after I watched him from afar, I realized that I had the ability to go do it because he was not only a performer but he had self-respect and he commanded respect. It’s really hard to describe him.

Steve Borden, Sting, is one of the best human beings on the planet and he set an example for me and I just tried to grab the torch and run with it and make him proud.

Earlier this year, Goldberg teased self-promoting a retirement match in Israel, with Sting once being linked to the rumored show as well. Goldberg told 93.7 in April that with McMahon not delivering on his promise, he wants to end his career on his terms.

Vince McMahon and I had a handshake understanding that after the Roman Reigns match, I would have a proper retirement match and that hasn’t come to fruition through them and so therefore, nobody puts a stamp on my career, nobody tells me when I’m done, period, end of story. And when somebody tells me that, I kind of like to fight against it. I like to do things my own way and I go out my own way and I certainly don’t go out under Roman Reigns three weeks after I have COVID and agreed to a match.

Goldberg suffers bloody head wound in farm accident

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is okay after busting his head open during an accident on his farm.

On social media Tuesday, Goldberg shared photos of his head bleeding following a tractor mishap. A representative for Goldberg told TMZ Sports that Goldberg was doing work on his farm in Texas when he knocked his head on his tractor, which opened up a big gash near his forehead.

Goldberg told TMZ Sports that the incident wasn’t anything serious and the cut was “just a flesh wound.”

The 56-year-old Goldberg hasn’t wrestled since losing to Roman Reigns at WWE Elimination Chamber in February 2022. With a retirement match for WWE yet to come to fruition, Goldberg has said he’s leaning toward promoting his own four-city retirement tour. He told 93.7 The Ticket last month:

I’ll stop the rumor mill right now. The reason why these rumors are out there is because Vince McMahon and I had a handshake understanding that after the Roman Reigns match, I would have a proper retirement match and that hasn’t come to fruition through them and so therefore, nobody puts a stamp on my career, nobody tells me when I’m done, period, end of story. And when somebody tells me that, I kind of like to fight against it. I like to do things my own way and I go out my own way and I certainly don’t go out under Roman Reigns three weeks after I have COVID and agreed to a match.

So, if I go on a world tour and promote it myself, that’s a possibility. Hey, I’m a businessman and I’m fortunately in the position, I firmly believe, to where I can still make it happen. At the end of the day, like I said, I do believe that my character deserves a proper send-off and until that happens, I don’t believe I’m hanging them up. So, anything and everything is an option.

I’m very much leaning toward promoting it myself and doing a four-city world tour. So, let the rumor mill start up after that.

Promoter Rick Bassman is hoping to put together an event in Jerusalem this September that would feature both Goldberg and Sting.

Sting potentially involved with Goldberg retirement tour show in Israel

Bill Goldberg and Sting could potentially be involved in a huge show in Israel later this year.

Longtime promoter and agent, Rick Bassman, told Haus of Wrestling recently that he’s been in contact with Goldberg about a potential event in Jerusalem this September.

“First of all, I’m actively in touch with Bill, I’m working on a date right now,” Bassman began. “I don’t promote much these days but every now and then, something fun comes up, and it’s worth diving into. So working on a date in Jerusalem, Israel for September of this year. And that would involve, potentially, both Goldberg and Sting. And then on the whole ladder, you have the AEW clearance issues, of course. So that’s something that I really hope to put together.”

Goldberg told 97.3 The Ticket last month that he was looking into a self-promoted retirement tour. He noted that WWE promised him a retirement match after he agreed to face Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022 but the company has not followed through on the deal.

As for Sting’s possible involvement, the 64-year-old noted in an interview with D Magazine in January that his AEW contract expires sometime in 2023. When his deal is up, Sting plans to retire.

Bassman also mentioned that he’s been in contact with Goldberg’s agent, Barry Bloom, regarding a potential event or tour. Still, Bassman would not be surprised if Goldberg ends up back in WWE.

Bassman continued:

“Now, only because I’ve been in touch actively with Bill, and then also with his agent, Barry Bloom, who is a longtime good friend. They are working on exactly what you described. But to my knowledge, it still needs to all be nailed down. That said, I would not be surprised to see Bill end up back in WWE for something massive.”
