The UFC kicks off 2022 back at their home base of the UFC APEX with an exciting featherweight match-up that could impact the title picture at 145 pounds.

Fifth-ranked Calvin Kattar will square off against eighth-ranked Giga Chikadze in the five-round main event. Kattar returns to action for the first time in a year since his loss to Max Holloway last January, while Chikadze looks to extend a nine-fight win streak and stake his claim to being the next title challenger.

Also on the main card is a potential barnburner as heavyweights Jake Collier and Chase Sherman square off, a flyweight bout pitting Brandon Royval against Rogerio Bontorin, and a battle of former women’s flyweight title challengers as Katlyn Chookagian battles Jennifer Maia.

Rosa took this fight on Tuesday night. Rosa landing leg kicks early as Brown is putting on the pressure and landing the jab and right hand. Brown with a right hand then a big body kick. Rosa lands a head kick. Rosa with a leg kick. Brown lands a leg kick and scores a takedown. They get to their feet and Brown lands an elbow. Rosa with a right hand. They trade in close range then Rosa with a leg kick. Rosa still landing leg kicks as Brown is landing punches. Rosa with another high kick. Brown with a left hook and shoots for a takedown and gets Rosa down. They get to their feet. Brown gets it back down and is looking to lock in an arm-triangle choke. Rosa defends and gets out and Brown now in his guard. Brown lands a big right hand at the end. 10-9 Brown.

They trade to start the second. Brown with a body kick. Both landing short shots and Rosa with a high kick. Brown scores a takedown. Rosa gives up his back and Brown with a right hand. Brown drags it back down and is in side control. Rosa sweeps to the top and is in side control now. Brown scrambles and reverses back to the top in side control. Brown in the half-guard but moves to the full guard. Rosa looked for an arm but they scrambled to their feet. They roll back to the mat and Brown in side control again. They’re both working and Brown gets the back and then tries to set up the arm-triangle choke again. He has it locked in but lets go as the round comes to an end with them both landing. 10-9 Brown, 20-18 Brown.

Brown with a heavy calf kick. Brown lands a combo and then shoots for a takedown against the fence. Brown picks Rosa up and slams him to the mat and is in side control. Brown gets to the mount and lands a right hand then Rosa gives up his back. Brown lands some left hands. Rosa escapes to the top and is in the half-guard. Rosa is in side control and looking to set a choke up. Brown is able to escape to his feet and gets Rosa back down. Brown is on top and Rosa is looking for a kimura on the bottom. Croom took this fight on Wednesday. They are swinging early in wild exchanges then clinch but break. Kelleher lands a right hand that drops Croom for a moment. We have a groin strike and a timeout. They get back to action and Croom lands a right hand. Croom with a leg kick then a combo. Croom with another right hand. Croom with a leg kick. Kelleher shoots for a takedown but Croom defends as he continues to land more. Kelleher with a body shot. Croom with a combo. Kelleher lands a nice combo then gets a late takedown and ends the first in the guard of Croom. 10-9 Kelleher.

Croom landing combos to start the second. Both are landing early in the second with Croom landing more but Kelleher is covering up. Croom with a body kick then a leg kick and then another. McGee lands a couple of short leg kicks. Brahimaj lands a left hand. McGee with a leg kick. They clinch against the fence. McGee trying hard for a takedown. McGee scores on the takedown. They get to their feet but McGee has back control. McGee gets another takedown. He gets the back as they stand. They break to the center. McGee with a body kick then a combo. Brahimaj with a left hand. McGee with a heavy right hand then a combination to the body. McGee with a right hand that drops Brahimaj at the end of the first. 10-9 McGee.

Holmes is making his UFC debut. Holmes with a leg kick and they trade punches. Holmes with a leg kick then a right hand then another leg kick. Pickett backs Holmes up with the jab and they clinch against the fence. They break and both are throwing but miss. They clinch once again. They break. Pickett shoots for a takedown but Holmes defends. Pickett lands a jab. Pickett lands a right hand and just misses a head kick. Pickett gets a late takedown. Close round. 10-9 Pickett.

Brito is making his UFC debut. Algeo throwing kicks early. They clinch against the fence. They trade knees in the clinch. Brito picks Algeo up and slams him down and has the back. Algeo is able to reverse into the guard of Brito. They scramble up and Brito is pressuring as Algeo grabs his neck and they push against the fence. Brito working hard for the takedown but they get up. Algeo lands a knee right to the chin of Brito. Brito throws some punches as he gets into a clinch. Algeo with a body kick. 10-9 Brito.

Algeo lands a right hand that stuns Brito. Brito comes forward and drops for a takedown. Algeo lands some hammerfists to defend. Brito working hard for the takedown as Algeo is sprawling and landing to the body. They break and both men are throwing and Brito is landing as he’s throwing a ton and then he goes back for the takedown against the fence. Borshchev is making his UFC debut. Bush with a leg kick. Bush lands a right hand. Borshchev with a leg kick. Bush gets a takedown and is in the guard of Borshchev. They scramble to their feet. Bush lands a knee that hurts Borshchev and he’s retreating. Bush lands a right hand and is landing more but Borshchev lands a counter right hand. Bush gets a takedown and has the back. Borshchev able to escape and now goes into the guard of Bush. They get up and Borshchev with a knee to the body. Borshchev with a big left hook to the body that drops Bush and some follow-up punches end it. Maia with a leg kick. Chookagian gets a takedown and is in the half-guard. Chookagian gets to side control and is trying to find a way to set up a choke. Bontorin with a leg kick and it sweeps Royval to the mat for a brief second. Royval lands a combo. Royval landing low kicks and just misses a flying knee. Royval throws a kick and Bontorin grabs the leg and ducks under a spinning back fist attempt from Royval. Bontorin gets a takedown. They end up scrambling up and Royval landing more. Bontorin gets another takedown and Royval is being active from his back. Royval trying to throw his legs up for a submission. Royval rolls and they scramble up as the round ends. 10-9 Royval.

The Octagon closes out the month of August back in the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, with an exciting featherweight main event and the conclusion of season 29 of The Ultimate Fighter with two new TUF winners being crowned.

In the main event, exciting featherweight strikers Edson Barboza and Giga Chikadze will square off in a highly-anticipated bout. Barboza enters the fight riding a two-fight win streak following a third-round knockout of Shane Burgos in May, while Chikadze has won eight straight and is coming off a first-round TKO finish of Cub Swanson in May.

In the two TUF 29 finale bouts, Bryan Battle will take on Gilbert Urbina in the middleweight finals. Urbina replaces original finalist Tresean Gore, who was forced out due to a knee injury. In the bantamweight finals, Ricky Turcious will battle Brady Hiestand. The two winners will earn the standard six-figure contracts with the UFC.

Also on the main card is the return of Kevin Lee, as he moves up to the welterweight division to take on short-notice replacement Daniel Rodriguez, and a middleweight bout between Makhmud Muradov and Gerald Meerschaert.
