UFC on ESPN+ 71 live results: Calvin Kattar vs. Arnold Allen

The Octagon finishes up a busy month of October back at their home base of the Apex in Las Vegas with an exciting featherweight main event that could play a role in the divisional title picture.

Fifth-ranked Calvin Kattar looks to get back into the win column and keep himself in the title picture when he takes on sixth-ranked Arnold Allen, who is on a long win streak. Kattar has been on the cusp of a title shot before, but he’s looking to rebound from a close decision loss to Josh Emmett in June. Allen comes into this fight riding an 11-fight win streak after scoring a first-round TKO win over Dan Hooker in March.

Also on the main card is an exciting welterweight contest between Tim Means and Max Griffin, a heavyweight battle pitting the debuting Waldo Cortes-Acosta against Jared Vanderaa, a middleweight bout between prospects Josh Fremd and Tresean Gore, and a light heavyweight battle of kickboxers as Dustin Jacoby takes on Khalil Rountree.

Rodriguez lands an overhand right. Rodriguez connects with a left hand. They both land body kicks. Rodriguez with a right hand. They clinch for a moment and Weems lands a flurry as they break. Weems briefly gets it to the mat but they stand and Weems still has the clinch edge. Weems pulls guard and Rodriguez lands from the top. Rodriguez goes for a D’Arce choke and it is in deep and Weems taps as he can’t escape. Nice submission from Rodriguez there.

> Flyweights- Cody Durden (13-4-1, 2-2-1 UFC) vs. Carlos Mota (8-1, 0-0 UFC)

Durden with a high kick. Mota with a leg kick. Durden lands a combo that leads into a takedown. Durden is in side control. Durden has body control on the mat as Mota is trying to roll to his knees. Durden trying to work to the full guard. Durden postured up and went back into the guard and Mota almost had an armbar locked in but Durden escaped. Durden in the half-guard and landing right hands. Both landing on the ground. Durden ends the round on top. 10-9 Durden.

Durden going for the takedown to start the second and Mota is defending against the fence. Durden working hard to get it down against the fence but Mota is keeping it up. Durden completes the takedown. Durden landing from inside the guard. Durden still in control from the top as he moves to the half-guard and continues to land. Mota goes for the armbar from the bottom. Durden is defending. Durden gets out and lands from the top as he works back into Mota’s guard. Durden lands at the end of the round. 10-9 Durden, 20-18 Durden.

Durden lands a high kick. Mota landing to the body and Durden lands a body kick. Durden tries for a takedown and looks to grab an ankle and Mota tries to roll but Durden ends up on top after the scramble. Durden looking to take the back of Mota. He has the body triangle almost locked in. Durden looks to flatten Mota out as he lands some right hands. Mota is able to scramble to the top and gets to his feet and Durden stands. Durden shoots for the takedown but Mota keeps it standing. Durden gets it down. Mota lands some hammerfists. Mota trying for a leg. 10-9 Durden, 30-27 Durden.

Garcia lands a left hand and they trade punches. Hooper goes for a takedown but Garcia spins out. They trade and Garcia drops Hooper with a left hand. He lets Hooper up. Garcia with a leg kick and then drops Hooper again with a left hand. He lets Hooper back up and they trade. Garcia with a leg kick. Garcia with a right hook. Hooper lands a spinning back fist. Garcia drops Hooper again and a few follow-up shots ends it. What a showing from Garcia!

> Middleweights- Joseph Holmes (8-2, 1-1 UFC) vs. Jun Yong Park (14-5, 4-2 UFC)

Park with a leg kick. They trade leg kicks. Park with the jab and a leg kick. Holmes with a pair of leg kicks followed by some punches. They have a brief timeout for a potential eye poke but there wasn’t one so they get back to action. Holmes with the jab and lands a right hand and Park counters with a right hand. Park wit a flurry and they clinch with Holmes having position. They break and Holmes slips to the mat and Park is able to grab the back as they get to the mat. Park with a right hand from the back. Park working for a choke from the back and Holmes is fighting it. Holmes reverses and gets to his feet and looks to take the back of Park. Holmes with an elbow and they roll to end the first. 10-9 Holmes.

They both throw to start the second and Park grabs the tie up and gets the back and drags it to the mat. Park moves to the mount and lands some punches. Park lands from the top. Park looks for the choke and he’s cranking the neck and has Holmes in trouble but lets go. Park remains in full mount and is landing big punches from the top. Park gets the rear-naked choke locked in and he has it in deep with Holmes flattened and Holmes taps. Park with the clinic on the mat as he gets the finish.

They trade leg kicks. They trade right hands. Rogerio drops Arlovski with a punch and gets on top and is landing from the guard. Rogerio gets the mount and is looking for the back. Rogerio landing punches and is cranking the neck. He has it under the chin for the choke and Arlovski taps. Big win for Rogerio.

> Middleweights- Phil Hawes (12-3, 4-1 UFC) vs. Roman Dolidze (10-1, 4-1 UFC)

They’re feeling each other out early. They trade body shots. Dolidze throws a head kick and Hawes ducks under. Hawes lands a right hand. Hawes ducks under a Dolidze punch and gets a takedown and lands some elbows and punches from the guard. Dolidze lands some elbows from the bottom and switches to the armbar but lets go and attacks the leg. They get to their feet and Hawes is clearly hurt and having trouble standing. Dolidze with a leg kick. Dolidze with the jab. Dolidze lands a right hand. Hawes is having trouble standing but then Dolidze lands a couple of big punches that puts Hawes’ lights out. Big finish by Dolidze.

Gore gets it down right away and is in the half-guard of Fremd. Gore transitions and grabs the neck and they get to their feet. Gore drags it down as he still has the front headlock, but Fremd escapes. They’re pushed up against the fence. Gore picks Fremd up and gets the big slam takedown and takes the back and gets the hooks right in. Fremd escapes and they stand and Gore lands a right hand. Gore with the jab and Fremd lands a leg kick. Gore with a snapping jab. Fremd lands a right hand. Fremd with a leg kick. Fremd lands a combo and pushes Gore against the fence. They trade knees before breaking. Gore with a left hand. Fremd with a right hand. Fremd with a jumping knee. 10-9 Gore.

They trade leg kicks to start. Fremd with some right hands and pushes it against the fence. Gore grabs the neck and locks in a guillotine choke and Fremd is jumping all over the place trying to escape, but Gore is squeezing tight and Fremd goes out cold! What a finish from Gore!

Welcome to F4WOnline.com’s live coverage of UFC on ESPN 37: Kattar vs. Emmett, emanating from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.

The Octagon returns to Austin for the first time since February 2018 with their first event inside the brand new Moody Center with a deep card headlined by an exciting featherweight clash that could have an effect on the title picture.

Fourth-ranked Calvin Kattar takes on seventh-ranked Josh Emmett in the five-round headline bout. Kattar is in his fourth straight main event and is looking to build on an impressive win over Giga Chikadze in January. Emmett comes into this fight riding a four-fight win streak and was last in action at UFC 269 in December, scoring a decision win over Dan Ige. The winner could stake a claim for a title shot for their next bout.

In the co-main event, it is two long-time UFC veterans and fan favorites finally squaring off after having their fight pushed back as Donald Cerrone takes on Joe Lauzon in a lightweight bout. Also on the main card is a welterweight bout pitting Tim Means against Kevin Holland, and a pair of middleweight fights as Joaquin Buckley battles Albert Duraev, and Julian Marquez and Gregory Rodrigues kick off the main card.

They scramble up and Dolidze with a knee and Daukaus goes down and Dolidze starts landing some shots until it is stopped. Big finish by Dolidze.

Hawes landing the jab early and lands a shot that puts Winn to his knees. Hawes still landing the jab. Winn with a snapping leg kick. Winn with a left hook. They trade in close range. Hawes with a body kick. Hawes lands a right hand and then drops Winn with another. Winn gets up and Hawes lands against the fence and Winn circles away. Hawes with a combo. He lands another big right hand. Hawes lands an elbow and Winn stumbles again. He gets up and they trade. Hawes landing some solid shots and Winn is in trouble. Hawes still landing big shots as Winn is landing a few. Hawes with a right hand. Hawes with a combo but Winn lands a right hand on the end. 10-8 Hawes.

The doctor checks on Winn as he has a cut before the start of the second but he’s good to go. Hawes with a body kick. They trade some wild shots. Hawes lands some punches. They both land in close and Hawes rocks Winn with an elbow. Hawes with another elbow and he gets a takedown. Hawes landing punches from the top. They get to their feet and Hawes with the jab. They’re battling in the clinch and Winn with some body shots. Hawes with more heavy punches. Winn lands a nice right hand. Hawes tries a takedown but Winn defends and now Winn lands some big punches. They trade body kicks. Stamann with the jab and lands a right hand and Wineland goes to his butt but gets up. Stamann with more big punches and Wineland went down again but gets up. Stamann with more big shots and a knee and Wineland is out on his feet and it is over. Big finish by Stamann!

Oliveira landing some punches early. She’s landing with decent volume early. de Paula with a jab. Oliveira backs her up with some punches and she lands against the fence. de Paula lands a left hand. Oliveira with a combo. She lands another. They clinch against the fence and de Paula with a knee and another as they break. They trade kicks and de Paula with a hard leg kick. de Paula with a hard body kick and Oliveira grabs the leg and dumps her to the mat but de Paula gets up. Oliveira with a combo. de Paula lands a body kick. They trade in close range and de Paula is the one pressuring. They clinch against the fence and Oliveira looking for the takedown but they break. They trade leg kicks. de Paula with a jab. They trade at the end. Close round. 10-9 Oliveira.

They trade leg kicks to start the second and de Paula lands a right hand. de Paula with a couple of jabs. de Paula with a leg kick. They trade in close and de Paula lands slightly more. Oliveira lands some as de Paula with pressing forward. Oliveira with a side kick. They trade in close and Oliveira gets the better of it. de Paula with a leg kick. de Paula with the jab and she’s landing slightly more here and lands a big right hand. de Paula continues to apply pressure. de Paula with a high kick. They trade to start the third. They continue to trade and Oliveira misses a knee. Both are landing as de Paula is landing some good punches and now Oliveira lands a bunch of shots inside the pocket. They trade leg kicks. de Paula tries a takedown but Oliveira defends and they’re tied up against the fence. Oliveira gets it down and looks for the mount. Oliveira stood and was looking like she wanted to get back on top but referee Kerry Hatley was stopping her so de Paula got up and they started trading. They’re circling and Oliveira grabs the body lock and gets another takedown and is in the guard of de Paula. They get up and both are landing on the feet. Oliveira tries a takedown but de Paula reverses it and they’re in a weird position to end the fight. Close fight. 10-9 Oliveira, 29-28 de Paula.

Ramos with a body kick but Chavez grabs the leg and lands some right hands. Ramos with a body kick. Chavez with a right hand. Ramos keeps throwing a spin kick but is barely missing it. Ramos then lands a spinning elbow and Chavez looked out but a punch later and he was out cold. What a brutal finish by Ramos!

> Welterweights- Court McGee (21-10, 10-9 UFC) vs. Jeremiah Wells (10-2-1, 2-0 UFC)

McGee lands a jab. McGee with a leg kick. Wells with a left hand. McGee lands a right hand. Wells then lands a left hook and McGee goes down and is out cold! Wells landed a couple of extra punches that he didn’t need to as McGee was out cold but what a brutal finish.

> Women’s Flyweights- Jasmine Jasudavicius (7-1, 1-0 UFC) vs. Natalia Silva (12-5-1, 0-0 UFC)

Silva with a quick leg kick. She lands another after a high kick. She throws a head kick but Jasudavicius blocks. Silva then rocks Jasudavicius with some punches and Jasudavicius went to the mat for a moment but they clinch as they stand. Jasudavicius with some knees to the body against the fence. They break as Jasudavicius lands an elbow. They trade punches and Silva lands a nice left hand and then a flurry in close. Silva with a heavy leg kick. Silva landing kicks at will. Silva with another two calf kicks. Silva with a right hand. Jasudavicius ties up with Silva against the fence working for the takedown. They end the first tied up against the fence. 10-9 Silva.

They both continue to throw and look for openings. Duraev tries for a takedown but Buckley defends. Duraev throws a kick and Buckley catches it but lets go. Buckley with a late flurry and he had Duraev in trouble. 10-9 Buckley.

Buckley landing to start the second. He lands a high kick that stuns Duraev. Buckley lands a head kick as Duraev was shooting for a takedown and I don’t know how Duraev didn’t get hurt by it. Duraev goes for another takedown attempt and gets it. They get to their feet and break. Duraev shoots for another takedown and briefly has it but they stand and Buckley drops Duraev with a left hand. Duraev gets up. Buckley rocks Duraev with another left hand. Duraev gets a takedown and is laying on top of Buckley and not doing much but is holding Buckley down. Buckley gets to his feet and lands some body shots. Duraev’s left eye is a mess and he gets dropped again at the end by a Buckley left hand. 10-9 Buckley, 20-18 Buckley.

The fight is stopped before the third round due to Duraev’s left eye. Buckley gets the win in impressive fashion.

The UFC kicks off 2022 back at their home base of the UFC APEX with an exciting featherweight match-up that could impact the title picture at 145 pounds.

Fifth-ranked Calvin Kattar will square off against eighth-ranked Giga Chikadze in the five-round main event. Kattar returns to action for the first time in a year since his loss to Max Holloway last January, while Chikadze looks to extend a nine-fight win streak and stake his claim to being the next title challenger.

Also on the main card is a potential barnburner as heavyweights Jake Collier and Chase Sherman square off, a flyweight bout pitting Brandon Royval against Rogerio Bontorin, and a battle of former women’s flyweight title challengers as Katlyn Chookagian battles Jennifer Maia.
