D-Von Dudley returns to work for WWE following spinal surgery

For the first time since undergoing spinal surgery, D-Von Dudley is back working behind the scenes in WWE.

Dudley revealed in a tweet this morning that Tuesday night was his first time back working for WWE since undergoing spinal surgery last October. Dudley was formerly a producer for the WWE main roster but now is working as a coach in NXT.

“This pass Tuesday night was the first time back at work since my back surgery that took me out last October,” Dudley tweeted. “Feeling great and Glad to be back, but even more glad to be back in my new role in NXT. Love working with the new talent now. I thank God for this opportunity.”

Dudley had his L4, L5, and L6 spinal segments fused during last October’s surgery. He was told that he won’t be able to wrestle again following the surgery, but Dudley noted that he hadn’t planned on returning to the ring anyway. He hasn’t wrestled since 2016.

Dudley revealed on the final episode of his Table Talk podcast this May that he would be transitioning to the role of NXT coach when he returned to work.

The Dudley Boyz (D-Von and Bubba Ray) were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018.

WWE Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley moving to NXT coaching role

WWE Hall of Famer and producer D-Von Dudley is moving from a producer role on the company’s main roster to a coaching spot in NXT.

Dudley announced on the final episode of his Table Talk podcast that he returns to WWE and reports to NXT on June 15.

Dudley had announced that he would be returning to work on a prior episode of Table Talk, but the NXT role is new information.

Dudley, 49, had been sidelined after undergoing spinal fusion surgery in February, another health issue for the former WWE and ECW Tag Team Champion, who also suffered a stroke back in 2019.

Dudley has worked for WWE as a producer since shortly after the end of his in-ring tenure with the company in 2016.

As part of The Dudley Boyz, D-Von was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2018.

Dudley’s comments on his new role can be seen below in video of the Table Talk show.

WWE producer and Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley undergoes spinal surgery

WWE producer and Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley has undergone surgery on his spine.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Dudley revealed that he underwent spinal surgery this week. Dudley wrote that doctors had to fuse his L4, L5, and L6 spinal segments. The damage to his spine was worse than doctors thought and the surgery took longer than expected, but Dudley was told after surgery that he’s a new man.

Despite that, Dudley was told that he won’t be able to wrestle anymore because he could do more damage to his back that would require another surgery. Dudley wrote that it’s okay with him because he didn’t plan on wrestling again anyway.

They had to fuse L4, L5 and L6. The damage was a lot worse than they thought. The surgery took longer than they anticipated. But God is good and he the DOCTER said I am a new man. I can run, I can jump, I can beat my son Preston in basketball on the basketball court . LOL and racing him down the street lol, he thinks he can beat the old man. They also had to shift my spine a little bit with a curve. Because it was a straight line. That was because of all the wrestling. Then again, all of it was because of wrestling. They put the bolts screws and a plates in my back. They had to go up higher in my back they told me . I was told I could not wrestle anymore because if I do I could do more damage to my back I would have to have surgery again on the upper part. That’s OK I didn’t have plans On going back in there anyway.I would be in the hospital From Tuesday to Friday from My understanding. Unless it changes. Again ,thank you for all the well wishes and love.God is a great all the time . Amen and testify.

The Dudley Boyz to be inducted into WWE Hall of Fame

Joining Goldberg in this year’s class, The Dudley Boyz will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame over WrestleMania weekend in New Orleans.

WWE made the announcement via CBS Sports today. It comes after Bubba Ray & D-Von appeared on Raw’s 25th anniversary episode last Monday, where they put Heath Slater through a table.

In their interview with CBS Sports, Bubba Ray spoke about being the first ECW-created act to go into the Hall of Fame: “It probably means more to me than anything else. Yes, going into the WWE Hall of Fame is cool, but being the first original act ever created in ECW is really a big deal. ECW meant so much to us and it meant so much to wrestling fans. To me, it’s a great honor to represent a company that revolutionized and changed the wrestling business.”

After The Dudleyz’ last WWE stint came to an end in the summer of 2016, D-Von began working in a backstage role with WWE and Bubba Ray started his current run with Ring of Honor.

The Dudleyz had been expected to enter the Hall of Fame this year and were included on a list of inductees that freelance journalist Brad Shepard tweeted last month.

The 2018 Hall of Fame ceremony will take place at the Smoothie King Center on Friday, April 6th.

WWE bids farewell to Dudleys as contract not renewed

Last night’s Raw was the final appearance of Bubba (Mark LoMonaco) & D-Von (Devon Hughes) Dudley with WWE.

The team had signed a one-year contract, but had verbally agreed to a new contract several weeks ago. They had been working on an angle to split the two up for weeks on television but decisions were changed and the decision was made to not renew the contract and to drop the angle.

So instead they were given a farewell last night in Brooklyn where they got to turn babyface, set up signature spots with the Shining Stars, and then be used to get heel heat for Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows, the Raw brand’s top heel tag team.

The WWE was very gracious with them on television on the way out, with the announcers pushing that they may have been the greatest tag team in pro wrestling history.

Video of the Dudleys bidding farewell on Raw can be seen in last night’s video highlights.
